Thank you for such a great video, I just finished replacing the radiator on my 99 Acura and it went fine following your directions. I really appreciate your time teaching us and giving us the courage to do it. Thank you a lot, God bless you and your family.
I had the 2.5 5 cylinder 1996 acura tl and the 3.2 v6 , they were awesome vehicles they were build tough and drove like a caddilac , ive been buying used acuras ever since
Eric good vid, and 1-800- radiator is a good choice. I use them all the time always a direct fit. Some aftermarket from the parts store almost fit that could make for a bad day. enjoy your new lift.
Found this video after my 98 TL showed the same leak on the radiator, super helpful in determining that’s the problem. 98 3.2 TL with 230,000mi and original radiator, so not too bad considering it’s 20 years old. Thanks for the video!
As a person that has been involved in the design of engine cooling systems, you really should make every attempt at putting those "Baffles" back into place. They are used exactly as described to get the air flow proper through not just the Condenser, but the Radiator as well. I have seen 20 and 30 degree temperature changes due to not having those baffles into place. In most cases this isn't a huge problem, but it is something to be aware of. Most of the time these are engineered into meet a certain specification. GREAT video, you made this look so easy!
Critique: I really like that it's just you again filming, no offense to your camera guy, Brian. One reason I loved "Survivorman" was Les Stroud's take on filming without a crew bringing reality to a situation. In your case, seeing you hit the roadblocks of DIY repair as most of us experience them and explain your way through is the attraction to your channel. The GoPro shows what you're looking at quickly and quite accurately. However, the lack of stability as you switch around and go to look for a tool or struggle with with a fitting does leave for queasy viewing which is typical of GoPro videography. Good luck, and keep the dirt coming!
Just did a radiator on my 96 Corolla, your tips from previous radiator videos were super helpful! Everything from spark plugs to silicone spray for the rubber. Thankfully the job was easier than this Acura.
Good refresher for sure. I'm just about to replace the radiator in my 98 Maxima. Turns out both the cap and the rad are original and the top tank on the rad is leaking under pressure. Already replaced a rad in my father's 02 Maxima so I doubt I'll find anything surprisingly different. Still shocked that my 95 Tacoma is on the stock radiator though.
WOW Eric you went all out and got a Koyo Radiator, great aftermarket brand. I'd recommend anyone who's replacing a Honda or Acura radiator to go this route. Thumbs up sir.
On my 99 Accord, my radiator lasted about 14 years. Pretty darn good if you ask me. I did the radiator replacement job myself, but I cheaped out and purchased a $100 aftermarket radiator, instead of the OEM at $350. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but the problem is that the aftermarket radiator started to leak (in the same spot) after a year. The leak isn't terrible and I only need to top it off about once a year, but it's still very annoying.
I'm liking the video quality and the 60Hz refresh rate! Looks great! That little GoPro does a great job shooting quality video! Is this your first video shot with it? I'm guessing so, because I've never seen any of your videos in 60Hz.
Hey Eric, maybe it could help you in the future, so I am sharing this with you. I have acura 35rl from the same vintage and I also had to replace the radiator few months ago. My approach about the fans was to leave everything attached to them and unscrew them from the radiator. I did it like that, because it was very frustrating to remove the plastic brackets for the cables. I thought it would be more difficult to pull the radiator afterwards but it was even easier! Nothing catching on the tcs valve etc etc etc. Keep the good videos coming!!
There are lots of ways of doing this. Given that I was an Acura tech for 8 years, this is the method I found that works best for me. Thanks for your input. BTW as stated at the beginning of the video, this information will apply to your vehicle as well.
I use video glasses... better /easier than the gopro to setup! Maybe someone will send you a free pair in the future. How's the hoist? Looking forward to the first use video!
I'd suggest that those foam pieces are installed to block noise from the radiator/A/C fans when they're running. This is the upscale model Honda after all.
Darn, that trick with the vice grips is the most ingenious thing I've seen all day today. I believe it falls under the "How the hell did I miss that?" category.
dainternetguru It's business class internet with up to 100mb/s. Not that I ever get that. Still, can't really do much better around here. BTW the videos are uploaded at 1280x720.
I notice that Acura has a lot of those spring type hose clamps that are really tricky to remove. Would you recommend replacing them with screw/band type clamps where possible?
As always have to watch your latest uploads. Go pro is interesting perspective, but i had to turn it off halfway through as i get terrible motion sickness. Post stabilization might fix part of it for me, though I don't think i still could handle as much horizon shifting (unavoidable with head set go pro). Changing camera views from fix point camera to headset would be fine for me.
Was there a new camera added to your stock? Not referring to the GoPro, but the angles where you were either facing the camera or when the video showed a side view via top side. Looks very clear, seems even clearer than usual. Either way nice video. I can add this to my list of saved vid's to refer to when I need to do the same repair for my Acura Legend. Take care.
you have a video showing how to replace the cooling fan control relay my 97 Acura tl 3.2 cooling fans do not come on when they should they only come on right before it gets to the red line and drops back down help me please can't seem to find it or how to replace it
I have this exact same car and its been fantastic for the past 3 years. But over time its developed a leak, and it seems to be the same place as this one. Could you tell me where it was? Was it just a gasket?
I replaced the Acura’s radiator, thermostat upper and lower radiator hose about three years ago... no problems. Recently it over heated and I noticed the fan actually melted and the fan fuse popped. Now I’ve installed a new motor for the fan but they only kick on if the ac is running. They don’t kick on at operating temperature with the ac off. I believe it maybe the relay. Do you know which relay controls that and how to test them?
Got a question I've got a 1996 4.6 manual trans from a mustang gt and want to put it on 5.0 the bellhousing lines up with the block but the starter mount on bellhousing sets little different just wondering if I can get this to work
BRENDAJASON1 Mounting bolt circle, mounting center, block to trans depth. shaft centerlines, locating dowels, crankshaft offset, input bearing retainer/bellhousing bore diameter, starter location and starter ring gear mesh are different and incompatible. There are numerous resources available on the internet that identify the differences, discuss and illustrate why they are not interchangeable, Google is your friend.
His skills are great, disconnecting the bottom connections in like 10 mins where as most could take 30 mins, his videos are super helpful
Dude... spark plug trick was utilized changing my 08 Acura TL radiator. Worked like a charm. Thanks, Eric!!
By the way , I hope you get your own show one day....your the best and you always save me money, thanks
Great video well done as always thanks
Thank you for such a great video, I just finished replacing the radiator on my 99 Acura and it went fine following your directions. I really appreciate your time teaching us and giving us the courage to do it. Thank you a lot, God bless you and your family.
Loved the go pro camera angles
I had the 2.5 5 cylinder 1996 acura tl and the 3.2 v6 , they were awesome vehicles they were build tough and drove like a caddilac , ive been buying used acuras ever since
Im glad you get now your lifter is very difficult work laid on the floor.... goodlock in your new project fix it foreward
Nice new view Eric!
not sure how many videos you have used it, But yeaaawhooo for the helmet cam!!! great point of view. Loved it.
Great video, and it’s really helpful
Eric good vid, and 1-800- radiator is a good choice. I use them all the time always a direct fit. Some aftermarket from the parts store almost fit that could make for a bad day. enjoy your new lift.
Great video
i thoroughly liked this video... i also loved that you used the go-pro in this video well then keep up the good work!!
I really needed to see this video!! Thanks
Just replaced the radiator in my 97 TL using only this video.
Great tutorial with some solid tips/hacks.
Starting this project today on my 97

A new perspective on a common repair. ruclips.net/video/BX8BoMYcjic/видео.html
Not cool John Smith
John Smith
obvious troll is obvious (John Smith). have fun doing what you do.

Everyone's a critic . Or even a troll. Anyway enough on that. Eric loved the video stay dirty and keep smiling. .....
No it is, but there was a guy spamming the comments. Hence why the tag...
I 'll following you 4 ever eric
*@ **25:44** CAUTION: WITH ENGINE RUNNING- COOLING FAN(S) MAY TURN ON WITHOUT WARNING*
Thanks ...had sometime over the holidays and thought Id try this out...saved me some money big time...and a ego boost with the family
I like the not being able to point the light in the right direction part.
video looks good.
Just did a radiator on my 96 Corolla, your tips from previous radiator videos were super helpful! Everything from spark plugs to silicone spray for the rubber. Thankfully the job was easier than this Acura.
3:35 PROOF OF EXISTENCE OF LIGHTSABERS!
60 fps Eric is nice.
I enjoyed your video. Thank you. ^^

Loved the Ed China shout-out. The man is a genius. While Mike is good, I can't imagine Wheeler Dealers without Ed.
dig'n the beard EricTheCarGuy
60FPS love!

Eric I like the go pro aspect of this video!
Good video
This perspective ROCKS! Keep on doing that (even with the lift!) :)
Can't wait to see repair videos with your lift!!!
I hope you'll get a Camaro in the shop one day.
I don't know what's so funny about it, but I find it HILARIOUS when he says Nineteen-Hundred and Ninety-Eight....
Darn was expecting a lift, how about a walk around of it (the lift), please? Great video with the go pro btw!
I love this first person perspective. Really great video Eric!
Great video. Thx Eric. GoPro was great idea, and I have experienced that old ETCG repair atmosphere. Thanks for that Eric. Great great job.
The GoPro headband. It works. Felt like I was right there.
Great explanation. Thank you. Have a nice day.
new wide shot camera? great resolution. love'n the go pro angles.
I'm liking the video quality and the 60Hz refresh rate! Looks great! That little GoPro does a great job shooting quality video! Is this your first video shot with it? I'm guessing so, because I've never seen any of your videos in 60Hz.
The jazz music with the sped up video made me laugh. :) Thanks for another great repair video Eric!!
2:29...isn't that the front jacking point right there in the center of the screen?

I am surprised btw how alike the under-hood department looks to my car.
There are lots of ways of doing this. Given that I was an Acura tech for 8 years, this is the method I found that works best for me. Thanks for your input. BTW as stated at the beginning of the video, this information will apply to your vehicle as well.
I'm glad you have that new lift Eric. That looked painful rolling around on the ground. As usual, great video!!
60 fps video makes a huge difference! Plese continue uploading videos like that.
The underside of that TL doesn't look all that bad, for a '98 model (aside from the oil leakage).
Wish this was done on a 1999 TL so that it would help a lot incase I need to replace my radiator D:
I use video glasses... better /easier than the gopro to setup! Maybe someone will send you a free pair in the future. How's the hoist? Looking forward to the first use video!

The spark plugs top tip is genius! thx :)
Great Video Eric!
Thanks for the shoutout!
Awesome video quality, plus I'm watching on a 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display.
I loved the timelapses when you were jacking up vehicles. Please consider doing them again :)
Greetings from Germany!
great work and video
When are you going to install a 2 post hydraulic lift?
transmission will give out soon
I haven't had a problem with my radiator and it aluminum nat a single leak its 15 years old now you just gotta maintain them
Darn, that trick with the vice grips is the most ingenious thing I've seen all day today. I believe it falls under the "How the hell did I miss that?" category.
like the 60 fps
You should do your videos in 1080p or higher (4K?) now that you have a GoPro.
They're shot at a higher res but brought down to make them easier to upload. 4K videos take DAYS to upload.
EricTheCarGuy Even 1080p would be nice ;-) Time to upgrade your Internet connection LOL
dainternetguru It's business class internet with up to 100mb/s. Not that I ever get that. Still, can't really do much better around here. BTW the videos are uploaded at 1280x720.
EricTheCarGuy do more first person shots like this.
EricTheCarGuy Make sure you have a decent docsis 3.0 modem to take advantage of those speeds :)
I notice that Acura has a lot of those spring type hose clamps that are really tricky to remove. Would you recommend replacing them with screw/band type clamps where possible?
one thing i do if i replace the clamp is to cut the old one off if it is leaking. boss would give me heck if i didn't take it off
As always have to watch your latest uploads. Go pro is interesting perspective, but i had to turn it off halfway through as i get terrible motion sickness. Post stabilization might fix part of it for me, though I don't think i still could handle as much horizon shifting (unavoidable with head set go pro). Alternating between the different angles.
Nice
the main thing i learn from this is that hondas can leak oil like crazy, and from the looks of it you do not want to take on that project
Smashing video eric :-D
The headcam was an unusual touch, an erics-eye-view :-)
That new rad looked very nice, good suppliers eric :D
When's Fairmont starts
Edd China is crazy.. not that Mike Brewer isn't either lol
Edd has a new channel. :)
Can u review this acura tl pls,?????
Hmmm that 60fps.... nice
Elevator tightening music! :D
If you ever find yourself bored, I'd love to see you do a cooling system service on a VW Vanigon. Step 1: Don't... ;-D
made before your lift was installed Eric ; )

60fps looks waaay better
you have a video showing how to replace the cooling fan control relay my 97 Acura tl 3.2 cooling fans do not come on when they should they only come on right before it gets to the red line and drops back down help me please can't seem to find it or how to replace it
...much like a Paul Greengrass movie.
I have this exact same car and its been fantastic for the past 3 years. But over time its developed a leak, and it seems to be the same place as this one. Could you tell me where it was? Was it just a gasket?
I wanna see a video on fixing oil leaks since they are so common on most models.
hey eric are you gonna start using your new lift?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍
i like
Bhim' Happy Easter d Martha H Esquivias,
"PetCock" ? Better than that other video where "...you grease your shaft."
nice with the gopro
Edd China?? Do you get Wheeler Dealers in America?
How much transmission fluid was contained in the radiator?
Do you need to top off transmission fluid when new rad is installed?
I replaced the Acura’s radiator, thermostat upper and lower radiator hose about three years ago... no problems. Recently it over heated and I noticed the fan actually melted and the fan fuse popped. Now I’ve installed a new motor for the fan but they only kick on if the ac is running. They don’t kick on at operating temperature with the ac off. I believe it maybe the relay. I need to do a new radiator for my ex, its a 2000 tl without the transmission cooler lines , is it about the same as the 98 tl u are showing here?
we expecting your new car lifting jack videos after working experience
Great video Eric. I love the GoPro. You didn't mention if you blew out the transmission lines on the new radiator.
Greetings viewers!....always puts a smile on my face :-)
Got a question I've got a 1996 4.6 manual trans from a mustang gt and want to put it on 5.0 the bellhousing lines up with the block but the starter mount on bellhousing sets little different just wondering if I can get this to work
No.
What would be the problem. I know the t5 has 4 bolts from the outside and the t45 has 12 bolts from inside just wondering why it wouldn't
Damm ford diffently didn't want that trans to be interchangeable I believe I'll try and find a t5. Thanks for the info.
Eric, did you get a new camera for your intro scenes? It looks a LOT crisper. Or maybe my eyes are seeing things this morning.
I've been using a new camera since last November. I've been getting better at the encoding though. Thanks for noticing.
if you play it at 720p its also playing at 60fps i think thats why
EricTheCarGuy
7~9Mbps on H.264 gives good results all the time for me.
Ever tried a 2-pass method of encoding?
