    Here's the maths:
    Texas Toast $2.99/17= $.17 per slice
    eggs $2.79/12 = $.23 per egg - (In my case, the eggs were 'free' since they were laid by my hens.)
    American cheese $4.28/16 = $.26 per slice
    ham $5.99/17=$.35 per slice (Enough to make 2 sandwiches.)
    ($.17x2) bread + $.23 egg + $.26 cheese + ($.35/2) ham = $1.00!

    I grew up in Oklahoma and (at least in my house) we never used Texas Toast for regular garlic toast. (If we wanted that, we bought a French loaf and cut it ourselves.) Texas Toast was reserved for this type of sandwich. We didn't always do an egg, but we did always use a rough & tumble 80s toaster oven that got the outsides extra crispy while the inside stayed soft. Great with all the typical savory sandwich fixings but I would also make PB&J or PB&B (banana) this way, with a divot in the bread to hold just a little extra filling in the middle and having gently pressed the crusts together to reduce leakage. 🥰

      Yes, I agree. I also wonder if it might not be an idea to separate the egg and add the yolk in later, somehow? I like a runny yolk, but not runny whites. Maybe placing a small metal cookie ring on top and the white part around it might work. And then in the oven for the first 5-10 minutes and then take out and remove the cookie ring and put on yolk and cheese around it. And then back in the oven.

    I'm gonna make this using Zero carb bread. I think the ham needs to be cut in one inch squares. Since there's no low carb version of TX toast I'll probably remove the center of the top slice so the egg can spread out thinner and cook a little more thoroughly. I might try cooking this in the air fryer. The crunch factor is fab.

    Things in the UK are flying up this would be about £2 to make one, eggs are rapidly becoming super expensive since we don't do battery hens anymore here, it's like £2 for 6 medium eggs now

    • @a697ag
      @a697ag 10 месяцев назад

      Isn't this kind of sandwich called 'toad in the hole' in the UK?
      Also, food prices stateside are pretty high now. I recall that Emmy has her own chickens. The $1.00 cost for this sandwich is too low

    • @Rogers1000
      @Rogers1000 10 месяцев назад

      @@a697ag no toad in the hole is sausages in a savoury pancake batter like 'cake' done in the oven 😀
      You guys still have dollar tree etc which is now $1.25 tree right?
      Still that's cheaper than UK just about after your way of adding tax at the till. Our 'pound' shops that have never really sold proper food are close to £1.50($2 about) now, rare you find anything for £1 anymore

      You can buy mixed size eggs at M&S for £1.30! Tesco medium free range eggs £1.50.

      @Rogers1000 10 месяцев назад

      @@nicolad8822 £1.30 at m&s? That's cheap for m&s, Asda 6 mediums were £1.70 something last time I checked, I may have inflated it to £2 but it's closer to that than not lol, it's still expensive when I used to be able to get 12 for like £1.30 only 6-7 months ago

      @@Rogers1000I wouldn’t describe it as cake. It’s a Yorkshire pudding batter, popover like.

    We always assemble these sandwiches on the baking sheet to stop escape eggs 😅 and eat with a knife and fork, they are messy. Ty for sharing your version!

    I am going to make this with dinner buns the larger ones, organic eggs, organic butter, cheese one truffle cheese, another 4yr old cheddar, maybe another cheese and I will try the honey. Love that you have bees. My husband saw on YT a beekeeper who designed the bee collection with a tap so he can just turn the tap on and our the honey. I hope I can find that. Less mess.Thank you for your videos. Oh bye the way whenever I buy anything like mattresses I actually put them outside in the summer under cover to off gas as even if you don't smell anything it is there. Took me 4 months to get rid of the smell from 2 fabric chairs I bought.

      I agree so far as a different cheese. I do not like American cheese, I bet it would be just as good with any other kind. Great idea
