One year when I was about to have my son's 10th birthday (he's almost 32 now) our gas stove broke. I was planning on making his cake that morning. I ended up mixing up the batter and I used my sandwich maker that was just like yours to bake it. I ended up with a bunch of little triangle cakes that I put on a platter then drizzled with the frosting that I warmed up a bit. The kids absolutely loved it!! We baked many cakes like that for several years. They loved it every time! 🎉😂😊❤
@@kathleenfrost6563That’s really sweet, thank you❤ I definitely learned to think on my feet when things didn’t always go the way I had planned sometimes. These are still really commonly bought in the UK we just called them Toastie Machines. That shell pattern is the key to knowing it was made in one. Really nostalgic from childhood but still use during adulthood!
Same here. loads of memories. Grew up in South Africa where our family called it a "Snackwicher". I now live in NZ and they call it a toastie as well. Just as popular as it was in the 70s and 80s.
Toastie machine. Grew up with infomercials from K-Tel. Mom had a Breville or the Sunbeam toastie maker, think was 1981 or 82, by 85 I was allowed to use the hallowed toastie machine and make toasties, made a round of cheese and ham. Never saw yhis gadget or infomercial. My sister and I, as school kids in the late 1960s/early 1970s would get home and heat up Totinos Pizza Rolls in the little toaster oven. 😊
I was a Freshman in college in the mid '90's. My roommate had one of these, and there was sandwich truck that parked near our dorm what sold bologna and cheese sandwiches on white bread. We put hundreds of those bologna and cheeses through the Snakmaster. We generally used Pam cooking spray, too. This elevated the sandwich to the point that we felt like we were eating "real" food. On weekends, if we'd managed to get hold of some eggs, we'd do scrambled eggs, which worked great. One time we attempted to make "chili pockets" using sliced bread and canned chili. It was a mess and we never tried that again. We loved out Snakmaster.
I was a latch key kid starting at the age of 9 (1992). There were rules, my parents weren’t total heathens after leaving me alone 😂 I wasn’t allowed to use the microwave…but they said nothing about the sandwich maker! Many after school snacks were made using the sandwich maker. I haven’t had a sandwich from one of these in years. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
I remember whipping up a couple eggs with a bit of cream and pouring the mixture into the wells before adding various fillings like ham, mushroom, onion, cheese, spinach, etc., to make puffy omelets. They were definitely tasty and went very well with the French toast made in the same machine. Nice to see this shown again.
Core memory unlocked! My dad and I were up in the middle of the night watching TV and that infomercial came on. I begged my dad for one and he caved. We used it for years! I need to dig through my parents garage and see if it's still around.

So now I think I will go on a hunt at a thrift store for this! Also Infomercial gadgets are so fun and cool sometimes!
This takes me back to the 90s when all I did was make toasties, I think my parents first saw one of these while we where in Portugal that year and bought one as soon as we got home 😅
This is a classic Australian-style jaffle maker! I'm about to watch the video and will be looking out for these Aussie classics, which I can only assume will be represented: - baked beans sandwiches - spaghetti sandwiches - instant noodle sandwiches - apple pie sandwiches - last night's leftover takeaway curry sandwiches

Oh the nostalgia! My grandmother had one of these and I always thought it was so cool. She would let me make sandwiches with it every time I would visit.
Hers were *ALWAYS* the best! I remember staying up/waking up SUPER early to try to catch her infomercials! Infomercials these days are boring compared to those of the 80's/90's
I remember Kathy and I don't even have to look her up - those add ins, I remember them and I remember her coaching us to use the appliance very similarly to your presentation! I had this machine and I used it a lot - we got tired of triangular food, faster than I expected. But if you can stay enticed by triangular food, you can make curry and noodle triangles, stuffed sandwiches, premade rolls, brownie batter, etc. Just remember, triangles!
Omg trauma unlocked: my grandmother, whom I’m pretty sure hated, well, everyone, used to force feed me scalding hot peanut butter and banana pockets she made in this thing. They scalded my mouth and made me gag. If I didn’t eat it all, I was in trouble and couldn’t have anything else. After she would made me hand pick up leaves in the yard while she banged on the window that I missed some. Phew. Thanks for this free therapy moment 😂😮❤
My mom got a similar one like that, she got it before she was married. I am now 30+ years old and I think the sandwich maker is almost 40 years old and still works perfectly fine. Old appliances are durable
Ahhh, the comfort of the infomercial! For me, they were more Saturday or Sunday afternoon than late night. But I definitely remember the snack maker and Cathy! I seem to remember her making stuff with biscuit mix and, as a Canadian, that just seemed so cool and American, and so many tasty things could be made so easily! Sad your cinnamon buns didn't work out... maybe you could come back some day and show how it worked with just one in each well. 😊
My family bought one of these when they were new and exciting. We used it for literal decades. I think it's still floating around somewhere. It still worked even a few years ago. I loved it.
In Australia we call this a jaffle when bread used. Better when you butter the outside of the bread before you cook. Gives a lovely colour and helps not to stick 😊
I remember having so many sandwiches from one of these as a kid. The crunch of the crust where the bread seals off, love it! I was always amazed we could squish all the bread and fillings into the machine, haha.
My generation had the GT Express 101. Basically a more modern version of this and it was pretty nice. I remember making many an easy breakfast/dinner/snack in it growing up as a kid. Love little gadgets like this. :)
This video is hilarious. Vintage!? Here in Australia we can still buy these brand new. They are tremendously popular and many brands now come with different plates in the pack to make different types of toasted sandwiches including mini doughnuts. I have had mine for years and love it still. The originals were cast iron and you'd hold them in a fire or on the gas stove and I still have one of those. Great for camping. Love your vid's. Cheers
These are common in Australia and still popular. I grew up in the 90s also and we call them Jaffles or Breville after the brand of sandwich maker most common here. Usually we put ham and cheese, cheese and tomato, or baked beans as a filling! I was taught to put two pieces of buttered bread together and ingredients on top of that. Then you lift the first layer into the machine with butter side facing down and ingredients facing up. Then you add the second slice on top, butter side facing up. You get a really nice caramelisation as it browns and makes it less sticking.
Oh how I love this. I’m a 94 baby so my equivalent was her GT Express 101 infomercial. I wish I knew how many times I actually watched that late night or early morning. I just found it on RUclips and I’m loving the nostalgia. Thank you for the reminder!! Loved this video
I acquired a similar appliance and used it so often for many different "meals" so quick and easy and clean up was effortless ❤ definitely a great appliance to have especially if you have a small living space situation.
I remember many 90's infomercials. I watched Cathy quite a bit. I just watched her use the SnackMaster. Her cinnamon rolls were smaller and half as thin as the ones you used. So, yeah, just use 1 cinnamon roll per well.
I’m a 90s kid and my family was obsessed with their toasty maker that we took it on holiday with us abroad… we took a toasty maker on a plain with us 😆 I think I’m going to go buy one this weekend. Thank you Emmy!!
I had one of these in the late 80s early 90s. I was a teen, latchkey kid (class of 92), used the sandwich maker when I came home from school (sandwich maker was a latchkey kid's best friend!) . The only surefire way to prevent sticking was to use butter, always, instead of cooking spray. Butter will keep it moist & prevent anything from sticking, without butter things will stick & come out with a dry coating. Same for eggs, always butter, no matter what it is. Cooking spray evaporates too quickly & will result in a more drier piece of bread, or food item and more of a chance of sticking.
I love finding things common in my own country for decades being a novelty in others, I honestly think we never had infomercials because they are so familiar. I would suggest buttering the outside of the bread when using it and fillings like creamed corn and cheese, or any leftovers are stunning.
I had this growing up the grilled cheese made from these were divine. PS there is way less sticking with using butter or brushing on vegetable oil spraying it you have the risk of missing spots.
Always love it when you do these types of videos, especially the older food fads lol. It's like teleporting back in time. Vintage is nostalgia, and that is life haha! We had one of those, and us kids wore that thing out! Was a latchkey kids dream😂 I'm thankful that I have always been a person that could exercise restraint, because my garage would look absolutely ridiculous at this point 😂😂😂
I've got a 1986 Breville called Neville which is quite similar (does have a fancy light and tempreture cut off switch though) and he came with a whole recipe book of wierd and wonderful suggestions. One thing I've noticed though is he can be real picky with bread, I tried a farmhouse loaf once and it's sugar content seemed to virtually cement itself to the plates, he just seems happiest with basic sliced white supermarket stuff that is cut and sealed perfectly nearly every time.
I had one of those in high school and trust me it fed a lot of people not just myself. I was in a dormitory and I had that in my room and I was making cheese omelet sandwiches, grilled cheese sandwiches, pizza sandwiches, hot pockets etc. The thing was just a workhorse considering it helped feed 300 other people, other than myself.
I lived for those infomercials Emmy. Loved em. I loved the one with the first immersion blender that you could make whipped cream out of skim milk!! Loved it!!😂😂😂😂😂
Yes, when you do, cinnamon rolls or anything that rises, you can press for a moment to spread it in the snackmaster, but after that it needs to be left unlocked. I adore your videos and this was a favorite of mine. My brother and I each had one so that we could make things for ourselves and our friends after school.
Lol! I grew up watching my Mom amd Dad smack the biscuit roll tube on the counter edge! So dramatic! Us kids used to love watching them do that and hear that pop!
Childhood memory unlocked! My aunt had one of those when I was a kid. I had completely forgotten about it. I can remember the taste of the pizza sandwich now
I actually have one of these! It was a hand-me-down from someone when we got married in 2004. I need to pull it back out! It made some yummy breakfasts for the kiddos!
Love your videos Emmy. I'm from the UK and toastie makers are very common over here, Toasties/toasted sandwiches are a quick easy snack to eat and are quite popular, we even order them in cafes. xx
Growing up where I was, we never had toasters or toaster ovens. This is the only 'toaster' we could buy from the single departmental store in the small town we lived in. I only ever had a toaster once I moved out of my parents! I used to put pilchards/sardines in tomato in my 'pizza pocket'. The -algia in my nostalgia for this machine is the memory of my late dad who'd make me my safe food sardine sandwich so perfectly crispy and sealed.
I received a Cuisinart version at work for Christmas 15 years ago and I instantly thought of Cathy's commercial!!!! I still use it once in a blue moion. Thank you so much for this video and the memories!
This was awesome, I still have the one my mom got when I was a kid and its still works perfectly. I love getting it out every now and then to make some pizza pockets!
YAAASSSS! OMG I still have mine since college. I can't bring myself to get rid of it. About once every 10 years, give or take, I fire it up to make a peanut butter and cheese sammy 😂
I always dreamt of doing this with the magic bullet! I have actually watched that infomercial again a few weeks ago because I just had fond memories of it. 😅
As a kid my parents had a jaffle maker which was similar to the snack maker and I loved it. I have one now as an adult. Never thought of cooking breakfast in it I'll have to try that.
I STILL watch this Cathy Mitchell Snakmaster infomercial. It’s so old she still had dark hair! Maybe late 80’s-early 90’s? A gem of a vintage find this contraption is!
We had something like this when I was a kid (I think we still have it actually, though last time we tried using it there was a significant amount of smoke 😅) I remember we would make grilled cheese with buttered sandwich bread and Munster cheese, and then for dessert we’d do the same thing with bread, but the filling was jam. I practically begged to be able to use that thing, it was so good.
Toasties!! We still use ours but I haven’t used it in ages. My fav used to just be crack an egg in between 2 slices of bread for an egg toastie and butter outside. My sisters fav is cheese
I use to stuff my bread with bologna and cream cheese or Stouffer's Creamed Chipped Beef and toast them up with the Snackmaster. Nostalgic. How neat that you were sent one. Back when the Snackmaster was out, the cinnamon rolls were smaller.
I absolutely had one of these (though it was an Aldi knockoff and I got it in like, 2013) and one of her Xpress Redi-Set-Go's. Honestly kind of underrated little gadgets. The Xpress has a mini muffin tray you can get for it and that is a legit godsend if you're going to college full time + working a job. Just being able to make sure you have something in your stomach first thing in the morning is big, and a handful of mini muffins is pretty convenient.
YAY!!! So much infomercial love!

I had one and I loved it, I have been thinking of getting it off the shelf and use it again
I had one of those and my kids loved the grilled cheese, grilled pb &j, and grilled cheese, egg, and bacon sammies.
Cheers
Toast iron makers still exist. The one you hold over a fire. We have them in outdoor stores.
I own that exact appliance. Was my grandmother's, and my mother gave it to me. Still works perfectly and is so fun to use. :)
My grandmother had one of these!
I was a very picky eater as a kid and I always made
myself a grilled cheese with this when we visited every Sunday
Oh I loved this when my kids were little! Great omelets, pizza pockets & buscuits!,
Yes!! My mother bought us one from the infomercial when I was a kid and it was awesome. I ate so, so many white bread pizza pockets.
OMG my family has one of these but I'd completely forgotten. I made grilled ham and chees sandwiches and French toast in it.
I remember having one of these and the sticking on the sides being an issue. Thanks for the nostalgia revisit to an older appliance.
I acquired a similar appliance and used it so often for many different "meals" so quick and easy and clean up was effortless ❤ definitely a great appliance to have especially if you have a small living space situation.
I have one , need to get out of the pantry & start using it! Thank you for sharing ideas to make with it. Never thought to do eggs.
I remember many 90's infomercials.
I watched Cathy quite a bit.
I just watched her use the SnackMaster.
Her cinnamon rolls were smaller and half as thin as the ones you used.
So, yeah, just use 1 cinnamon roll per well.
OMG. Cathy Mitchell, informercial queen! Childhood memories UNLOCKED!!
YES!!✨
Was a latchkey kids dream😂
I'm thankful that I have always been a person that could exercise restraint, because my garage would look absolutely ridiculous at this point 😂😂😂
Loved it!!😂😂😂😂😂
How is that even scientifically possible lol
Yes, when you do, cinnamon rolls or anything that rises, you can press for a moment to spread it in the snackmaster, but after that it needs to be left unlocked. I adore your videos and this was a favorite of mine. My brother and I each had one so that we could make things for ourselves and our friends after school.
I still have mine from back in the day and it still works great!
And the woodgrain too! Yes!!
Lol! I grew up watching my Mom amd Dad smack the biscuit roll tube on the counter edge! So dramatic! Us kids used to love watching them do that and hear that pop!
Love the sandwich makers👍✔️
Lovely budget snacks.
Nice video 😊
Good memories. I had one in my dorm 1987 in England. 🎉
WE LOVED OUR SNAKMASTER❤❤❤
Thank you sooo much, I was trying to find a brace and this helped a lot!
I used to make all kinds of things with that. My nieces and nephews loved the filled pancakes I made with fruit or jam.
This was awesome, I still have the one my mom got when I was a kid and its still works perfectly. I love getting it out every now and then to make some pizza pockets!
YAAASSSS! OMG I still have mine since college. I can't bring myself to get rid of it. About once every 10 years, give or take, I fire it up to make a peanut butter and cheese sammy 😂
all hail the toasted peanut butter and cheese sandwich! I honestly thought I was the only one that knew this deliciousness!!
I had one of these growing up! They were great!
We had something like this when I was a kid (I think we still have it actually, though last time we tried using it there was a significant amount of smoke 😅)
I remember we would make grilled cheese with buttered sandwich bread and Munster cheese, and then for dessert we’d do the same thing with bread, but the filling was jam. I practically begged to be able to use that thing, it was so good.
My grandma had a thing like this for grilled cheese. I loved it as a kid.
We had one of those. My mom made almost everything imaginable in it.
Toasties!! We still use ours but I haven’t used it in ages. My fav used to just be crack an egg in between 2 slices of bread for an egg toastie and butter outside. My sisters fav is cheese
I'm totally going to use the term "over toasting" from now on whenever I cook something and there are burnt bits! 😂
I use to stuff my bread with bologna and cream cheese or Stouffer's Creamed Chipped Beef and toast them up with the Snackmaster. Nostalgic. How neat that you were sent one. Back when the Snackmaster was out, the cinnamon rolls were smaller.
I remember those infomercials, and I always wanted one!!! Love this!
We always butter the bread from the side its on the toaster. It sticks less and makes them holden brown.
Fun video. I would use more baking spray. Love from NC
My friends makes pb&j’s with toasted bread, this would be so perfect to make like a toasted uncrustable! 😂
Redi set go was my favorite. Always watched it growing up
