I bet it doesn't really cost them more to rush it than it would to do it the long way... It's just a matter of making it more expensive to prevent most people from taking the fast option.

There's no shortcuts these days. Not with a passport backlog of more than 2 million because of Covid. Expedited takes 12 weeks. Regular passports (new and renewals) may take up to 18 weeks. So don't expect a passport much before Christmas.
Do you know if I can secure an appointment with a passport agency and then book my flight? (Before my appointment of course) because I know they’re limited especially right now with covid and I don’t want to chance booking and not being able to get one. I would appreciate it if you could respond :)
Technically, you can always book a flight last minute if you are able to get your passport. However, I believe (and I don't know for sure, so you'll want to verify with the Passport Agency) you have to already have plans and will need to show your itinerary in order to get a last-minute passport. So, an alternative would be to buy refundable tickets so you can cancel if the passport doesn't happen (or at least reschedule and try again).
*_**UPDATED 7/5/21*_** Companies such as FedEx, Fast Passport, and the like are able to expedite RENEWAL passports but not NEW passports. Unfortunately, if you are applying for a new one, the wait is still up to 16 wks or so. Even expedited RENEWAL passports have a 4-6wk wait. The only way to get it sooner (at the moment) is for emergency travel (life or death) or urgent travel (traveling within 3 days). See the state department website for details.
@@garrisonsmith1882 You need to be super careful, there's only limited availability for the 3-day passports and no guarantee you'll find an appointment. I would contact your local passport processing center and ask what can be done. Hopefully they can help guide you.
@@CraftedTravelCo ended up not being able to go to Mexico because there were no appointments available at my nearest agency some 4 hours away. I checked maybe 40 times a day for 10 days. These covid shutdowns across the board have really wrecked things.

Did you get it yet? If not call your state senate and request them to help you that you leave soon and can’t cancel they’ll be able to hopefully access your application and send it out within 3 days tops. I’m waiting for mine as well

I just looked at the state department website to get an update (travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/passports/passport-covid-19.html) and it looks like only some of the facilities are open but they may not be allowing expedited processing at the moment. Please check this website and see if any of the open facilities are anywhere near you. If possible, maybe even reach out to your nearest facility and ask the wait time. The website link above indicates they are only expediting in emergency cases, but this is changing daily so it may open soon?? Either way, apply asap so there's a chance you might still get it on time (though they do claim there are delays). Try to talk to someone at an official facility - hopefully they can give you more exact information. Good luck!!

Hey.. so my passport was expired about 6 month ago and I waited till I reach 16 years old to get 10 year passport which was a week ago. I wanted to go meet my family in korea and stay there in my summer break. But If I wait for 4~6 weeks from now I am not gonna be able to go korea since its only little time and I have to stay suspended in the house for 2 weeks in korea because of covid 19 around the world. Is there anything I can do to get the passport renewal fast??
You definitely have a better chance of getting a renewal faster than if it was your first one, but I don’t think anyone can do it overnight anymore (at least at the moment). I would call around to some of the places that advertise fast passports and see if anyone is able to beat the 4-6wk “expedited” that seems to be the norm at the moment. Things could change any day so you never know. Good luck!!
seems like all sites/facilities that aren't passport agencies can only expedite in 4-6 weeks (including fastport passport). Unfortunately I need my passport in less than 4 weeks and it seems like getting an appointment at a passport agency will require some luck. Any tips or suggestions anyone?
@@liam9587 so I am a couple days away from my trip and I was lucky to pick up an appointment at a passport agency online. It took about a week of calling and refreshing their online site. Calling was a waste of time in my experience and I was told that appointments were more prone to open up at 12am and 5am. I got my appointment around 1:30am it's honestly pure luck and good timing🤷I searched for any other options and couldn't find any. My tip for you is to keep refreshing whenever you have free time and I have also seen people post their ig on the reviews of some passport agencies on Google. That way hopefully if someone cancels they can hopefully be nice enough to let you know about their cancelation personally. Wish there was a better way during a rough time like this. However I attempted that but had no luck. My congress person said they can only do that for people with "life/death emergencies" but I'd give that a try to

I have till July 28th to get the passport. Do you still think if I get an appointment 3 days before like it says on the travel.state.gov that I would be able to get an extra expediting process without Congress and even though I already submitted a passport application the regular way?
I'm sorry, I don't. For that you will need to have a live interview with a passport official. You can get a list of passport offices at travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html. I would also check your local library - oftentimes they handle passport processing as well. It will take up to 12 weeks or so, so if you are going anywhere this year, get an appointment asap.
I called passport agency and gave them whatever zipcode I wanted and gave them a date I was flying (you can give them a date and THEN book flight it has to be proof of travel within 2 weeks) they tell you what office has an appointment available. So you may have to fly to LA/Seattle wherever is closest. For example I'm in Idaho. Have to fly to LAX for best flights anyway to Mexico so will find out what day is available at LA office then book my flight to LA night before apt then fly to Mexico after I get my passport

I'm having the same problems too and i tried to call the number that they have multiple times but it seems like they just hang up whenever i ask them to speak to someone else. I'm hoping if you know any information about that.

So, just try your best to explain your situation with documents you have on hand.

@@TheGoldenArline yes I was able to go to a different state and get it same day but need to have an appointment. You can basically go anywhere in the US to get your passport same day at any passport agency just have to have an appointment booked because they won’t let you in any of those buildings if you don’t. I had to call 3 straight days and on the last day they had something in Vermont. Hope that helped!

Sadly, this is going to be the case until things calm down and return to normal (no idea how long that might be). So apply early, early, early!

Go through the library to schedule the appointment. Call emergency passport then see if you can get everything expedited

No, I believe there's a different application process if yours is lost/stolen/missing. Please visit travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/have-passport/renew.html for details. You might be able to apply at FedEx, but I would confirm which application you need (at that website above) first to be sure.

What if I already started the traditional process at my local USPS. They said 18 weeks :(. Can I still do the process in the video.
Unfortunately that's true. Right now the quick ways to get your passport aren't available and the wait is 18 wks. Sadly, I made this video before covid put the freeze on quick passports and increased wait times.

I need to get new passport and I am traveling in two weeks . I tried to make appointment online to go directly to government passport agency, but it keep telling me no appointment available. Does anyone else experience this situation? If so what else can I do? Please help
I'm having the same problems too and i tried to call the number that they have multiple times but it seems like they just hang up whenever i ask them to speak to someone else. I'm hoping if you know any information about that.
@@liloreo4344 at this point calling customer service is a waste of time. I called them multiple times through out the day, but always busy. Try your representatives congressmen for your district. They seem willing to help. Good luck.

@@SamiraLopez20 On Google search type who is the representative for my district in the state you live. Once you found the name of thè Congressmen , give him or her a call . They will guide you what to do next.Hope this helps
@@SamiraLopez20 when I got the passport , the Passport Agency did ask me to show documations for the urgent trip and I did take some documents with me, but nobody asked me for those documents during the appointment to obtain the Passport . So, just try your best to explain your situation with documents you have on hand.

Unfortunately, yes. I think it's about 12-16 weeks currently. Though one viewer called FedEx and they said possibly 6 weeks. Might be worth calling them to check - but the State Department still says the longer time span.

@Lizabeth Dominguez were you able to find a way to expedite your passport on time? Kind of in the same boat but Im about 3.5 weeks out from a trip
@@Gabriel__rmrz no turns out I had to renew my passport to an adult one since I never did so I had to make an appointment at a passport agency I called multiple times and one day I got lucky and they had an opening in a different state and got my passport that day 2 days before my flight

@@TheGoldenArline yes I was able to go to a different state and get it same day but need to have an appointment. You can basically go anywhere in the US to get your passport same day at any passport agency just have to have an appointment booked because they won’t let you in any of those buildings if you don’t. I had to call 3 straight days and on the last day they had something in Vermont. Hope that helped!

@@Limalime3468 Unfortunately, everything. It is now taking up to 18 weeks to get a new passport and only slightly less for renewals. Expedited to the US Passport Agency means 12 weeks instead of 18. Sadly, this is going to be the case until things calm down and return to normal (no idea how long that might be). So apply early, early, early!

@@Limalime3468 It is, but there are very limited appointments available so it's more risky. You can certainly try though. I've heard of some people going to other states because they can get an appointment there and not locally.
I didn't realize my passport expired in February of this year. I have to Fly to Iceland this Friday. Do you think I can still get everything handled this week before my flight? Money is not an issue , , but, unfortunately there aren't any appointments available at the passport agency.
Oh man, I'm not sure. I would try the third party companies and see what they might be able to do for you. Call them and see if they offer anything that might be fast. But to be honest, I don't know if it's possible unless it is urgent (life or death, urgent trip, etc).
