    I tip at our casinos in the bathroom. They hardly ever get anything more than a "Hello." We tip the bathroom workers $20., bellhop $20., room janitor and floor janitor $20. $20. for our valay, and a restaurant waitress $10. per person in our party. Floor waitresses $5. per their trip and handpay person... $20. Our casinos the staff doesn't share tips. We know this for a fact. We know people who we've personally befriended. Our Host, we give our host $200. on holidays. She always does us right.

    As a Brit, the whole 'tipping culture' in the States leaves me amazed at times. Cocktail waitresses - no brainer, as you say, it's a hard job and it also helps you get a better service. What leaves me absolutely dumbfounded is that if I buy something from a store, I have to go through a tip option before I can pay with my card - that's just ridiculous. Buffets are another one - I haven't even had any service yet, and at the check in, I'm invited to give a tip - for what??? Housekeeping - I never want anything extra, other than the room is cleaned and dirty linen is replaced, so I never feel obligated to tip. Queuing for a taxi, and I'm expected to give the guy who's controlling the taxi queue a tip for calling forward a cab - really?? If you think the Brits are bad about this, try the Aussies and the Kiwis who don't tip or expect tips, as they feel it's demeaning. My general rule of thumb is that if someone does something above and beyond the job which they're being paid for, then I'll tip. Good guide, though, thankyou.

    When we go to Vegas we have a separate envelope for our “tip” money. We plan our days and activities and figure up the tips. We do this for shuttle at the airport, limo pickup, check-in, check-out, housekeeping bringing me extra blankets, housekeeping every day. I do a thank you card with a tip in it every day we are there for housekeeping. We figure up our meals and leave cash tips. Coffee tips, etc. We also take extra to thank attendants around the casinos, in the bathrooms, out on the strip cleaning. All those people help make our trip more enjoyable.

    I love to tip. As someone who worked in a tips profession in the olden days, where a quarter was a good tip. Have never had someone not say thank you. Have been the benefit of being treated as a VIP at my favorite casino, as they remember me. And my monthly trips are now once or twice a year, and still are remembered fondly, and they still ask about my family. My opinon is, why not make someone feel impotant, or put it in a slot machine??? If you can't tip because you need it to put it in a machine, then you need to stay home. A tip to help someone is more important than putting in a machine. Plus, tipping is absolutly good Karma!!!!!! And if you are loosing your butt, evaluate your tipping policy. As always just my opinon and my experiences. Plus the word "Tips" started originaly before service. Tips means " to insure promp service"

    I tip very much like you, with a few exceptions....
    If I am wanting to drink heavy at the time, I will tip $5 per drink on the first round (and ask for doubles starting on the second round), then if the service remains fast, and the drinks are good, I will stick to $5 per trip they make (usually for 2 drinks).
    I do not tip the 1st night of housekeeping. If they do a good job, I will tip $10-$20 per day (dependent on my room type - normal room is $10, suites are $20). - If they did not do a good job on the 1st day, I generally only leave $10 on the day of checkout.
    Cab valets are $2-$3 (cab drivers, I round up to the nearest $5 increment)
    I also like to slip $5 to the cashier at any food hall that has good service. (Sometimes, I will even ask to speak to the cook if it was good, and give them $10-$20. This really makes their day, and they are very appreciative)
    For dealers, I will only make a wager for them, and only toss them something for their drop box when I am leaving the table.
    For any jackpots, I will tip from $40 upwards to 2% of what the net (after taxes) of the jackpot is, depending on how quick they are, whether they followed my request for payment type/method, etc....(I have never won over $8500 on any single payout, and I capped the tip then at $100 - I did hit $4k on a first hand of Mississippi Stud once, and tipped the dealer $200 (5%) on that one, mainly because as he was counting it out, he encouraged me to take the money and go home, and not to keep playing any of it, which is rare, since dealers generally want to keep you playing, to increase their tip potential)
    There is an Indian casino I go to, where the dealers get to keep all of their tips (excluding craps & roulette which are shared)
    I always ask them what kind of tips they have gotten, and the worst I heard of was a dealer that dealt a $54k jackpot hand and was tipped just 1 green ($25). The best I heard of was a dealer that dealt a $120k jackpot and received a $10k tip.
    They say it is rare to get a 10% tip, and that some are in the 5% area, but most are 1% or less.
    Most of the dealers there work 3-4 days per week and make about $60k-$70k per year (and their days are only 6-hour shifts - Which I would gladly take that job! (before I retired, I used to work 60-70 hours per week and only made $100k, so $60k for 18 hours of work a week would be cake!)

    This is exactly what we do when we go to our local casino.The better service we get, the more we tip.My host was awesome. I met her several times. I had a good experience being hosted.My host would not take cash so I always got her something she liked. She had a candle collection, so I got her candles when I would visit. One time, I gave her a very nice pocket size wallet.I did put a few dollars in it. After she opened it. I told her there were a few dollar bills in it that I was taught to always put a few dollars in a new wallet if it was a gift.She thought that was nice. She may have donated the few dollars but I think since it was so small, they probably let her keep it.

    No tipping allowed in New Zealand or Australian casinos. You can’t even play for the dealers. Also, sometimes it’s hard to tip on a cruise ship as they often don’t give you a handpay but give you a slip to take to the cashier. I try to get the crew’s/slot attendants’ names who did the paperwork at the machine and find them later when I have the cash.
    Generally I tip $5 a drink. I also tip $5 a day for housekeepers. And always $5 a bag for valets/baggage service. I generally tip dealers when I am doing well-primarily at the end of session. I have never tipped a host as I assume they are at a significantly higher salaried level.
    I recently learned that some folks tip the cashiers. It never occurred to me to do this though I’ve started doing it now when I get a big win. Do you?

    I've always wondered about how much to tip slot attendants after a handpay. I never wanted to feel "cheap" so I'd do $100.00 per $1,000.....but that seemed high in some ways as well. Glad to hear the perspective on this video. I'll likely still continue it since I do normally get the same attendants at my local. I like them and they are great at their job.
    I will admit though about the money not coming back if having a down session makes me sometimes not want the handpay when on a very nice bonus. I was down $400ish onw night and was on Thunder Drums with a $78 drum/barrell. Got to $1,130 and didn't want another barrell and fistpumped when I didn't cause after the taxes and tip I woulda been down or barely even. I would have tipped anyway but I know it can be a tough for others in that spot.

    Tipping is getting out of hand. When business owners put suggested tips at 20-25-30% on their paying pads that is crazy. They should pay their employees properly. Watch out for service fees and tips included and they still present you with a bill with a line to add extra tip to that. A store clerk often makes $13/Hr. A union bartender on the strip makes 18-20/Hr plus tips How often does a bartender tip their store clerk? Let's spread the wealth around.

      @@GambleSmart Why not. They make a whole lot less than a bartender and they work just as hard. Does serving a beer in a bar deserve a higher salary and tip on top of that. Working for tips is somewhat degrading, but I have seen cocktail waitresses and valet guys making 250K a year. A waitress at Denny's can make 35K a year. A waitress at the top steak house can make 135K a year for doing exactly the same thing. It's just weird.

  • @revcounselor
    @revcounselor 4 месяца назад +1

    Why is tipping the cocktail server "controversial?" It seems almost everyone does that. To me, what is more controversial is the "$20 trick." I've heard from front desk staff, that if there is an upgrade it depends on your history with the casino and/or their supervisor. They have no control over upgrades.

    Just left a local, but large, casino. I felt tipped to death. One example is room service. They charged a service fee of $6 and another fee of some sort of $6 and then I tipped another $10 cash. So that's $22 on an $18 breakfast. Then there is the valet. $10 for parking. Then bell service. Two bags = $10, but they had to store them because I was early for check in. So when they brought the bags up, another $10. Room attendant $10 a night. It just went on and on. It used to be $2 for valet, $1 a bag for bell, a couple of dollars for maids. It's just over the top now.

I definitely giv 10-20$ but that's it...and I am a good tipper(after wife schooled me on Vegas)...always tip crops dealers, tuff game to deal and dice people can be suckas! Ha! Good stuff...👍🎲🎰👍

    What’s a reasonable valet tip? I tip car in and out. I also will tip on whole restaurant bill which includes tax, sometimes I think I should be tipping on total amount minus tax.Also if I get a discount off my meal bill will tip on non discounted price, the servers served me that amount.If paying dinner bill with a charge will leave the tip in cash, my nephew who was wait staff said if you put tip on charge they don’t get that full amount

      Tipping 15% on the TOTAL amount INCLUDING tax, on a $100 tab is about $1 more than a pre-tax total (depending on tax rate), by all means stand your ground & save a BUCK.
      And, at least you tip properly on a discounted meal, the FULL price before discount.

    When a Limo is included in a Vegas casino offer, how much to tip from airport to casino?

    • @GambleSmart
      @GambleSmart  4 месяца назад +1

      I generally tip $10 a person , thinking what an uber would be , if it’s just me and the driver is cool, i have tipped $20

      I tip $50 each time. The driver is waiting for me at baggage claim, grabs my luggage from the carousel, and takes it to the car, as I stroll behind him (all have been males). I appreciate the customer service and being treated like I’m special. Don’t get me wrong, I know why I am getting the service. It still feels good and I appreciate the service.

    How do you feel that roulette dealers can impact the game. Have you done a video on that and if not, could you?

      Ever wonder why a pit boss changes out the ball on roulette? Balls are different weights. So they do because some dealers can control speed and point of release to hit within 4 to 5 numbers (whether consciously or unconsciously)

      I will work on it , it’s the only game where the dealer releases the ball and can impact the outcome.

    Dave, my pai gow dealer said if a player is dealt the 7-card straight flush draw ($127,000+) they are obligated to tip the dealer at least 15% of the post-tax jackpot money.
    She personally believes she's responsible for dealing that hand and feels entitled to that tip.
    How do you and Marc feel about this? Is it fair?

    • @GambleSmart
      @GambleSmart  4 месяца назад +3

      100% not obligated to tip anyone for anything. The deal just turned the cards, if there is an auto shuffler, they did nothing to impact the game besides a fraction of a % when they cut the cards to put them into the shuffler. Only Roulette dealers have the chance to impact the game.

      IF a Dealer had said that to me, I'd tell that Dealer to....
      I tip, but that was a piss-poor comment by the Dealer.
      I do tip Craps dealers, but never in cash. I put a tip amount next to my bet and announce 'For the Boys and under my control" That way their rooting for you (them). I like Dealer's on my side. Often times that tip could be quite large depending upon the bet.

      I tip $20 or 1~2% but it’s as all on the service provided. it may not sound like a lot , but if you look at it from the point of view, they did nothing to help you win and they are not gonna give it back if you lose. go with what you think is best for you.
