Is it weird that I love the fact that your lipstick matches your hair color right now? Also, I was thinking of joining the Bout of Books read-a-thon, but I have to get things ready for the semester (since I start on the 25th). Maybe next time...but great tips!
I don't know if you ever look back on your older videos, but I just wanted to say thank you SO much for the tips! I've watched so many of your videos this past week and they were really helpful and upbeat, made me instantly want to read! I have CRPS (an "illness" that makes me in extreme pain 24/7), and therefore I'm exhausted and don't feel well all the time which has made my reading in the past 7 years pretty limited. I listen to audiobooks, but reading 5-10 minutes is an accomplishment for me, unable to focus. This past week I've read 150ish pages, and I'm doing my first read-a-thon tomorrow! I'm so proud of myself and wanted to thank you for bringing that spark back with reading and giving me the tips to help me thru it. Love your videos and you seem so sweet, keep staying awesome. x
These are great tips. It's hard for me to keep in mind that I work full-time and have other commitments so when others are reading six or seven books to my two or three it's not a failure. Excellent video!
Using this for the Bout of Books 11.0 Read-a-thon. My TBR pile is filled with a few big books, gonna change them for a few small ones. Ps, Your makeup is fabulous.
I would also recommend putting a collection of short stories in your TBR. That way, if you get tired of uninterested in the book you are currently reading, you can pick up a nice short story to zip through. You won't have to worry as much about keeping track of plotlines and such, because there's generally not too much going on in a short story. It works really well for me.
I don't plan my readathons, but I read considerably more during winter than summer. Those cold, windy days when you don't feel in the mood for anything, I stay in pijamas, let the dog out, prepare a thermos of hot chocolate, some munchies and off I go. In Argentina we eat empanadas, pastries filled with meat, ham and cheese and so on that are perfect for eating with one hand. Plus, they come delivered so I don't even have to stop reading. Nowadays that I'm 50 I'm glad to squeeze 2 books a week, but back 10 years ago, my reading was done on the boat, while my husband fished, I took the forward bunk and enjoyed a whole weekend of reading. One weekend I took 3 of the most boring books I've ever encountered and after a few hours I was bored to death with nothing to read! Keep on reading friends!!!
Those were great tips and actually apply to intensive study for exams or what I'm doing right now which is the final push to finish writing the last chapter of my book.
I think this video will really help me in the next few weeks so that I can get a lot of reading done before my summer classes start. Now that I have more time, I might try a read-a-thon some time soon.
Oooh this is perfect. I tend to do horrible with read-a-thons when I have a set TBR pile because I'm such a mood reader. I hope to participate in the Bout of Books (even though I move back to college on the 24). Great video :)
Here's me being superficial and instead of talking about how great your video is I tell you about how great your hair looks and how your lipstick mathes your hair colour, omg. Now,on a less superficial note, your video is brilliant.
Subbed! A read-a-thon is a great idea! I am definitely going to do that, starting this week. Thank you so much! How often do you participate in a read-a-thon? Do you plan these the day or week before? I have another great tip for everyone i really want to share with you (especially useful for people with tinnitus or people having a hard time to just concentrate!). I just got into reading. Yes, of course i have read books before, but now i feel like it is becoming another hobby of mine. I have tinnitus. In short,:that is when you hear a constant sound. It could be a constant high pitched sound or just noise... I only notice this when i am paying attention to it. I guess i got used to it somewhat. It can really become annoying when doing something relaxing like reading. I like to have headphones on with websites or youtube opened playing video's that are dedicated to creating a constant relaxing sound. This includes the well known "rainymood" or videos on youtube, like "Fireplace HD" or "Summer ambience", "night sounds", "chilling sounds" and a lot more. Pretty much everything you can think of that will comfort you while reading is on youtube or some website. It just completely locks me out of the real world and putting complete focus on reading my book. It can also help set the theme for say: A horror novel or something! Thunder and rain will definitely add to the atmosphere while reading. If you don't like the idea of having a desktop or laptop near you, use your smartphone! You can download the mp3's and start playing them offline, so you won't have to be connected to the internet, if that is what distracts you. I hope this helped!
I can honestly recommend using Audio-books when in a reading slump. I've found a couple on this site that has helped me after reading a book I didn't like and it has honestly worked wonders. :)
yes, that's what I learned the last 'bout of books when I couldn't finish all my books so in my TBR I put less books, and I kept an extra book out. I also bought a lot of fruit and water bottles! :D These tips are great! I love the way your make-up suits your hair! I love it!!!! :P
YES. THANK YOU. I literally end up reading less during a readathon than I do during regular weeks and I'm not even sure how that happens... And whoa I can go hard and read like a pro now :D
This is just what I needed! :D I really want to participate in some read-a-thons but I can never seem to keep up with when they start etc. I'm also going to try to go somewhere different to read because I can't seem to concentrate recently on reading so I'm going to take your advice ^_^ P.S. I absolutely love your hair! :D
Thanks for sharing those tips! I always want to participate in read-a-thons but get discouraged soon because I am a somehow slow reader AND overachiever/competetive person. I don't have problems to sit down and write for days with people but reading for days just has to happen yet for me I guess :D
I actually read almost the same when I join readathons as normal, but the reason why I love readathons so much is showing my progress to others and talking to them about theirs.
I'm going to try to use some of these tips for the Bout of Books 11.0 read-a-thon. :) I don't think I can do too much about the other people distractions, but I will try. lol Kids somewhat hinder that though. I normally prepare for a read-a-thon by giving the house a huge clean, that way I can start off with a lot of reading and things stay reasonably clean. For a day.
Hi, thanks for this video, it has totally made me want to do my first readathon (i wasn't really sure how before!) thanks so much for the great tips =-) x
This may sound silly, but I never understood readathons. I didn't understand the purpose of them or their value. This video really helped me understand how awesome readathons can be, and now I'm thinking about participating in one! Thanks!
+Little Book Owl I actually just watched your Read-a-thons in 2016 video, so I'm hoping to do some of those! I know that I missed a few already, but there are some good ones coming up that I'd like to try!
I really like your tips for a readathon, and want to take part in one soon (sbooktober readathon sounds awesome), but with uni and/or work it seems almost impossible. Do you have an tips on how to do a readathon while still staying on track in uni/school?
I put 8 hours sleep as a goal for Bout of Books 11. I can't stay up late as I have work during the days & for 3 nights I will be busy with work conference & catering. Hope to get in at least an hour reading on those days :)
* Gurl your hair is looking fine! * I have definitely skipped readathons because I knew I was going to be super busy that week and just wasn't feeling motivated. I only want to make happy and exciting readathon memories :D * Hmm maybe I should re-activate my twitter account while I still can, simply for booktube purposes...
Hey! I am really interested in reading, but I am not an English speaker and my level in Reading is upper-intermediate. The question is if I don't understand any word what should I do? translate it or just go for highlighting and after finishing the reading session I would translate the words. I am really confused. Can you give some suggestion. thank you, I loved ur video 💜💜
if there is a word that is so crucial for you to understand something important to better your understanding of the plot, then you have to look it up, especially if it is repeated. otherwise, you can skip it.
Does one have to o a read-a-thon that is among a bunch of other readers? Or can someone just do their personal read-a-thon?? Or is that what you meant by a sprint? And while doing a read-a-thon/sprint we can come up with our own challenges for that day? And last question, what's a good time for slower readers? A week? I feel like i may have only time for like 3! Please answer :) Thank you. good video by the way!
No matter how much I love reading, I really value my sleeping schedule. I have no clue how some people can go a whole day reading without falling asleep!
Bout of Books is a weeklong read-a-thon that starts Monday. It's normally a really popular and fun one. You should join in! Nothing better than just hoping in and trying to see if you like it!
Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon is twice a year. It's fast paced but it's super organised & it's fun being a cheerleader. I think Bout of Books is 2 or 3x a year.
"Sorry girls I can't go out tonight I need to read."
Gaiaphage omg i know you commented two years ago but omf squidgy

Read-A-Thon: the perfect excuse to be antisocial!

I have never done a read-a-thon but since I got 17 books for Christmas plus my backlog of two extra books... Maybe I should start.
I would also recommend putting a collection of short stories in your TBR. Thanks for these helpful tips! They come in really handy when I'm about to start with my first read-a-thon ever!
Thank you for this! This upcoming week is my first read-a-thon so this was perfect timing
I think this video will really help me in the next few weeks so that I can get a lot of reading done before my summer classes start. Now that I have more time, I might try a read-a-thon some time soon.

I get really nervous when I speak in front of a lot of people and I sometimes stutter my words so this really helps me. ❤

Your hair looks so cute in this video!
Ahhh I loved all these tips! I also really like your new intros - although your old intro tune was always stuck in my head and I loved that too :)
thank you so much! this really really helped me :) I failed at the Booktube-a-thon this year but i will do better next year
Really useful tips! I always struggle during readathons. I always overestimate myself and fail in the process. And then I end up in a reading slump!
Awsome tips. I have a huge to read pile in the corner of my room and I need to read them soon. You just earned yourself a subscriber 😀
great tips...the motivation tips and the second tbr pile
Thanks for the tips!!! I'm getting ready to do the Bout of Books 11.0 and this will def. help!
I can honestly recommend using Audio-books when in a reading slump. I've found a couple on this site that has helped me after reading a book I didn't like and it has honestly worked wonders. :)
Name of the site?
@@imsamanthaswift Probably RUclips to be honest. My comment was 5 years ago so can't be sure where all of my audiobooks came from at the time.
yes, that's what I learned the last 'bout of books when I couldn't finish all my books so in my TBR I put less books, and I kept an extra book out.

Love your make up here

I love these tips! Can I share this video on my blog (full credits to you, with links, of course) for the upcoming Dewey's Readathon?
I do consider you an expert lol so I'm really excited that you did this! Thanks for the tips, yo!

Very helpful! I also love the intro! Especially the music. :)
Great tips!!! Thank you for putting this up.
