Hi, I'm Greg Shapiro. Comedian. American. Dutchman. I came to Amsterdam to work with Boom Chicago comedy theater, and I never left. My professor at the university is German and she shared her first experience of teaching in the Netherlands.. if she asked the following question in Germany: does anyone have any questions or remarks? It was met with a a few questions or silence. When she asked the same question in the Netherlands this started a whole discussion among the students at which she was totally flabbergasted and didn't know what to do for a moment xD I'm happy we have the freedom to put questionmarks by everything we are told. To not take everything as true because one person says it is :)

Ye why is that? Doesn't that devide your country like crazy? Feels weird to me that people would refuse to speak the languages of the country. Although I guess we have some people who just speak a strong dialect in the Netherlands and never go anywhere where they don't speak it.

No i do not. ;) I was raised in the western of flanders, and i never heard a word of french, except for in school. It's not a french accent, it's called flemish. :D And Mechelen has it's own accent. We ( in the western part of flanders) think there accent is pretty funny. :')
sure if your from the very west, hen sure.. but anyone who doesn't speak that dialect has quite the french accent lol, but well thats what i noticed being a foreigner :D

If this video is to insult the Netherlands, i am from the Netherlands and i wouldnt wish to be from a different country. Our country is beautiful, rich, full of nice people, and in my opinion, we are the best European country. No country could stand up to us. We are one amazing country and nothing could change that! (No hate comments please.)

Masterful, Mr. Shapiro. God knows the Dutch need critical comments "in your face", and that you will be amply rewarded for exploring your singular duality. Keep it up, half the planet's waiting for your good stuff.
All extremely true, but I'd argue that Dutch workplace meetings are the better way to run a company.
I'm a Belgian who grew up there, so I'd probably be trying to endlessly pamper colleagues in restaurants over and over again according to your video. :p

It's a bit exaggerated, but so true, I live in the most southern part of the Netherlands where the culture is a bit in between the Belgian (Flanders) culture and the Dutch, and recognise a lot.
Decision making in The netherlands can take ages, especialy with public planning.
Projects like major roads can take 10-20 years of planning, meetings, public input, another 10 meetings, and plans not passing the council of state because not everybody is happy with the outcome, and the whole proces starts again. I have seen this happen exactly with a road that is to be built near where I live, planning started 23 years ago and they started building it 2 years ago.
Also recognize doing bussiness in Belgium, you can't talk about bussiness before a meal and some bottles of wine/beer are finished. (altough this is changing because of ethics of conduct rules implemented by a lot of international operating companies)

As a Dutch person I love this message. I have been living in Japan for several years so far and it pretty much is a completely other spectrum and I have noticed several of these traits with myself. Sometimes for the better, sometimes maybe not. Especially when you sometimes think about the other person's feelings which is something the Dutch people don't really think about. But seeing as they are used to butcher each other, they often don't even mind.
But, it is definitely better to end a meeting early (or on time) and think about it and come back to it the next day, rather than butchering the thinking process of everyone in the room by staying there for several extra hours and not coming to a single damn conclusion but leaving everyone frustrated for the rest of the evening, as far as there is an evening left for them. Whereas other cultures/people might not even give one damn about the thoughts of their employees to see whether they have something to add and just take their superiority position to make the decision and the "meeting" is more a briefing.

Personally in this case, I was not offended at all. A while ago he did a part on Black Pete (the entire theater went silent once he gave his opinion and he noticed and moved on quickly.)
Apart from some of that sensitive Dutch stuff that Americans shouldn't ask or interfere with, this was just satire, not even that sharp, it could've been meaner, I still wouldn't have been offended.
As a Dutch person I can't say I would know why they are offended. Because the video was absolutely hilarious. Maybe they need to have a meeting about where their sense of humor went.

I'm from the Netherlands and I must say, it made me laugh in a positive way. Very funny to see how other countries have a good look on what is going and can make a parody from it. I like it! And yeah, we first agree and afterwards disagree hahaha. Visit the Netherlands and enjoy our great unique snacks like frikandel special, kroket uit de muur of natuurlijk een friet kapsalon, very tasteful the last one I mentioned. Kapsalon means barbershop in English, no hairs in the dish by the way ;)
So true, haha. It's still a mystery to me how to get any commitment about anything in a Dutch company. Basically if still one person disagrees the whole project is at risk of stalling. Even if the CEO says it needs to get done. I've heard the phrase "well the CEO doesn't know shit about this" more than once, lol.
