The beauty of our trimaran is in its foldability - it unfolds to be sailed and folds to be trailered. So far we’ve unfolded her on the water, but in this episode we attempt to unfold on land (for the first time!) so we can fix a leak in the hull.
The big worry is, without the stability of the water on the opposing float/ama, the boat might want to roll off the trailer, and THAT we want to prevent at all costs!
Hope you enjoy!

As someone considering buying a trimaran and keeping it on on a trailer in my yard… This video is very helpful
Renata seems like such an intelligent and advanced child - her verbal skills are amazing to me! Does that make her easier to parent, or more difficult?
We don't have anyone to compare her to, but I would imagine increased communication would only make it easier. Kirk and I are often grateful at how well we can understand her needs and wants because she can communicate so proficiently. The only negative is that sometimes it can be harder to remember that mentally and emotionally she still is just a toddler!
very nice job in setting up the boat spread.
To get my 18 foot yacht off its trailer, I built a wooden stand to support the rear and jacked the stern up so it could fit underneath, and then built a wooden gantry to lift the front with a chain hoist and then placed some wooden blocks under the bow. It was constructed for a total cost of around $200, which was for the chain hoist, and it works a charm that I use each year after winter to get it ready for a summer sailing season. The good thing is that I can do the whole process on my own without needing any additional assistance.
Great fun, guys. I agree that the depthsounder would have probably been fine with just a quick clean up and a squirt of quality sealant, but whilst you were there....good call to have a proper look and prep the surfaces for a long lasting job. Check the sealant instructions, sometimes the correct method is to apply the gear, just snag up the fitting then let it set. Final tightening after the product has cured, makes sense when one thinks about it! Cheers, thanks for sharing!👏👏👏
You would normally use marine sealant like Sikaflex or the US equivalent, put a bead where your finger is at 15' 18" then hand tighten the nut on the inside and clean off the excess sealant leave to dry overnight then fully tighten the nut another 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Job done.
I will sheepishly admit that I watched the WHOLE ad just for Lauren's lovely hair in that clip. But in other news, I will say I agree with Kirk on how awesome it was to see that trimaran "flying" through your front yard just outside your front door. How freakin' cool!!
Congratulations !! children are a blessing always. Love your enthusiasm guys. Beautiful family, lovely trimaran, I buy it from you any time.
Wow, what a fantastic episode of Sailing Soulianis! It's amazing to see how you tackle the challenges of sailing with just two people. And Renata is simply mesmerizing; her intelligence and verbal skills are truly remarkable. Kirk, you are living in a state of bliss with such a supportive wife, an engaged child like Renata, and your homestead coming together. Congratulations on the exciting baby news! Wishing you health, happiness, and prosperity as your family continues to grow. Cheers to many more incredible adventures ahead!
Awh thanks so much! Life is good!
Great video! It's exciting to see your homestead coming together as you plan for future adventures and build your family:) Congratulations on the baby announcement! Cheers!!
Thanks so much!
Tritanic! Wow! But when you have supportive parents, everything is possible. Kirk, you are among the very privileged in life. Wife in tune, child engaged, parents present, own land, adequate resources, doing what you love. It's called Nirvana. I wish you, Lauren, Renata, and the new human Lauren is caring for, health, happiness and great prosperity!
You nailed it Nick. I’m very thankful for my little slice of nirvana.
@@SailingSoulianis Kirk, if it is you, I wish you a long lifetime more of it! Equally of course, Lauren and your family present and to come.
Renata is 50% her mother. Obviously. What a lucky girl to have such a special woman for her mother. Rarely , anymore, do we see a woman who perfects being a girlfriend, homemaker, wife and buddy to her man the way you do. Congratulations on your second pregnancy. Here comes another exceptional child. Best of luck and health to you all.
I’m glad you said you will change the name. Now you have two names to surprise us with.
Seems to be a tradition for Trimarans to have really tacky names, I bought one called Tri-Fling, but I've seen plenty of cats and mono's with tacky names too.
Installing through hulls almost daily for my job all you need is to clean up the surfaces and put a bead of 5200 on it. It is ok that it wobbles and isnt a perfect tight fit in the hole that is what the nut I for on the inside to tighten it up. I use 5200 fast cure and launch the boat a few minutes later and never had an issue with it leaking. Also make sure the arow is facing fwds on the inside of the boat on the tranducer
From the yard's experience, 5200 might be fastest and strongest but 5200 is permanent never intended to be removed. Not sure I agree that applies to that part. I think I would use one grade more removable.
Love it!! Cant wait to see her on the water again!
Always looking in on your adventures! ❤
Very cool episode! Clever trailer dismount.
And Lauren, sending you a big hug - you are an amazing mom x1 and soon will be an even more amazing mom x2!
Another fun episode - y'all make the mundane and "why are they doing this?" entertaining. Cheers and quack quack!
Hey Kirk and Lauren noticed one of the base notes on some music reminded me of the movie ""Uncle Buck" and the accentuated version of that base as John Candy gets in that old car, maybe you can use it, the sound itself is just hilarious, Live from OK.
You should get high density foam cube blocks... Two under the main hull and two under each ama at a height higher than required to put the trailer under the main hull.
Great episode on the boat this time. Kirk should over dub the quack sound since his use of the lexicon has inspired it. I love the way his language evolves through the video. 😅😮😂
Yay, well done getting the boat of the trailer. Yes indeed, projects feel so much better on your property. Love the vlog :)
Thank you!
Thanks very much
Looking forward to seeing the barn progress and the trimaran out sailing. I hope you two got a gin pole that was the proper size to step that mast that is if you plan on stepping it without using a lift or crane.
We look forward to your videos....
You two are hilarious, wonderful but hilarious. 😂 Well done as always.
Thank you 😊
Nice. " Thats not going anywhere" in your best dad voice. Well done!
Lol
Busted out a laugh w/Lauren under the boat….you go Mom!
Looks like the Klingon space ship😅 from Star Trek.
Nice job. Just put the winter tarp on mine yesterday here and look forward to another year in a short few months.
David, how do you get your winter to fly by so quickly that you can characterize it as "a short few months"? 😂 My winter looms ahead like a half year of gray, cold, soggy unpleasantness. Please share your wisdom! -L
Alcohol. LOL, I just put on a smile and plan for the first week in April to launch. With the eclipse in early April next year I'm planning to have a dockside party and have friends down to watch. Albeit the heater onboard will be on 75! @@SailingSoulianis
This may not be an issue when I post this comment, but do the stands your using supposed to be used on grass? Maybe a 3/3 board under each foot will prevent them from sinking in the dirt if that placement is long term. Maybe not a big deal as the majority of the weight is on the centerline and you have your Post stack under the hull for support.
Seeing you on an F18 for the teaser of the next video was awesome
Gotta be Red Fox...
Love your show...
Thank you!
That was a great episode, so enjoyed it, for what reason I do not know.
Thanks David!
I’m sure you had other reasons to get the boat of the trailer but maybe a 4 or 5 inch hole saw would have gained you access to that through hull fitting. Fun to watch your happy family grow!
You briefly mentioned sawhorses under the mast. Optimum placement for 2 sawhorses in 21% in from each end. This gives the minimum bending moment for a simply supported beam
Yes indeed.
I'm working on repositioning the bunks for my 26ft sailboat. I'll see if I can work in your advice!
How bout that? Appreciate the solid math!
@@artsmith103 The 21% only works on a beam with a constant moment of inertia -- a whole sailboat does not meet the criteria. What you DO have to watch for is maintaining proper tongue weight -- 10% of the boat and trailer weight. I failed to get my boat all the way forward on my single axle trailer, didn't know I had negative tongue weight, and it almost swapped ends when I was trailering.
@@chashague8479 Do you own a Macgregor? What you described is common problem with their crap trailers.
Consider how to prevent your trailer from causing leaks around the through-hull transducer. I don't see a way to modify the trailer to keep from putting pressure on the transducer. As the boat is pulled up onto the trailer, it's going to put pressure on the transducer for several feet, perhaps even the entire length of the trailer, depending on how deep the boat launch is. Consider moving the transducer closer to the stern, so it doesn't have to rest on the center of the trailer at all. This will decrease the frequency of the transducer hitting the bottom or rocks when you pull up at a shallow beach. Anytime you can have a solid hull is better for preventing leaks and having a penetrated hull. Although many people love a through-hull transducer, it doesn't have to be in its current location. Moving it further back will offer it better protection from the trailer. It could also be swapped for an external transducer mounted on the stern. That might completely prevent future leaks caused by the weight of the boat pressing down on the trailer where the transducer is mounted.
6:10 "Hopefully we don't need 3 people." Hopefully the 3rd person doesn't pop out under the strain!
Boat work in the yard films much better than gardening in the yard ;-)
Next episode looks great.
:D
U both are awesome... Amazing job...
A sweet little girl....
Your Canadian followers...
Awkward wire in the way. Maybe yours is different or stuck, but usually the sensor part to which the wire is attached comes out of the through-hull fitting itself. That allows you to take it out when necessary in the water.
PS: Maybe you could hold a boat-naming contest with your Patrons? I think she looks like a gull from forward, with the anas out
Go guys .
Nice yard art! You been posing for NightCafe?
Good job all the way round! The boat looks awesome setting there opened up. Personally however, I for one wouldn't want one of those trimoran type folding boats. Too much hastle every time setting up, taking down, setting the mast, removing the mast... etc, no thanks pal. But that's my humble opinion. Be safe always from the Philippines 💕
When the video began, I thought: why are they doing this? Thank you for the explainer at 5:14
I would do everything I could to make a bomber depth reading repair. If you don't fix the leak, you'll probably find out when you're in the water then you'll have to do the whole jacking process again. Happy Trails!
Too bad those lightweight flexible solar panels weren't more reliable. You could clip them on the outrigger netting and have a ton of solar power.
I like the idea of a solar kayak like boat with inflatable/removable outriggers that use lightweight aluminum poles & netting. Some lightweight folding 📂 solar panels to clip onto the netting, small solar system, electric boat motor and throw in a small sail. Lol
just remembered the back injury from some kind of . . . was it wake boarding? . . . glad to see it's all healed
I would suggest modifying the trailer bunk to take pressure off of fitting.
Oh no! Just thinking that this is a great video. I love sailboats. I am "into" trimarans. Seeing you guys play with your trimaran puts it all together. Maybe I'll figure out where you guys are but looks like Maybe Lake Michigan, Superior, or Huron but not Erie. My early sailing was the very west end of Erie but for the last 45 years I've been here in New Hampshire. Portsmouth ~ salt water ~ then there is a big lake in New Hampshire. Ok Ok too much about me. And so just to say. I am "on board" with supporting your You Tube effort. Retired with a fixed income so I can't offer much. I'm into Ama's ~ yep. I need two Ama's I'm thinking of glueing layers of two inch foam board to core profiles. OOPS oh no! There I go ~ talking about me again. Sorry. ~"Cribbing" (under the boat) there, ~ just saying. Yea. Cribbing. Looks good. Thank you both for this. Just great. ✨🌟🌸👍🌸🌟✨
5200 marine sealant can get it at any store its a 3m product ! for the transducer
simple fix !
Glad to see you all back again!
Have you got your heads around sorting out the 'off' ama bolting situation? Ive been wondering about that.
No… still deciding upon a proper repair.
@@SailingSoulianis Good luck with it when you do tackle it. I look forward to seeing you get it sorted!
Yes, Lauren, we were well aware you were pregnant, love. ☺️ Kirk … the big thing was “on your own land”. Both … that’s a massive job ahead but you’ll get it done. Have you considered building a gantry or renting a crane of some form? 👏🏻
We considered it briefly when building the boat house. But it is massively expensive. I think we'll be ok with the jack stands for the work we are anticipating.
@@SailingSoulianis We can only hope … yes, gantries are not cheap. Best to all four of you.
Using the cribbing on the out riggers to get your trailer back under the hull could work well for you. Thanks for the updates 💯
Been watching you guys since you lived in San Diego. Love the teamwork. Btw....a good book and exercise is enough therapy! Lol. Timmy C Arizona
Books and exercise are great! until you've got a toddler who only lets you read Dr Seuss and being pregnant forces you to give up chasing that runner's high 😂😭
@@SailingSoulianis lol. I'm praying for ya! 😍
You could name her Olympic, Titanic’s sister ship.
@2:54 #2 already! wow you don't waste time :-) congratulations.
I never would have lowered it. I hope it's not a headache to get back on the trailer.
Yes, scratching my head on why lowering it in the first place. Easy to find some steel support for height
I agree - good way to make the process much more complex than it needs to be!!!
As the OSB (plywood) absorbs moisture it will likely bend. Clean the surfaces and seal the transducer with butyl rubber sealant.
That’s what she said! 😂
Needs a fresh coat of bottom paint while you access to the bottom of the boat.
Yea we thought we’d never do bottom paint again after applying copper coat to the tartan. Guess we were wrong.
Yes that bottom paint looks very rough! I removed the ablative bottom paint altogether from my F-82R floats this past spring and it made a HUGE difference in boat performance especially in lighter winds!!! I would recommend something far smoother like Baltoplate or VC-Offshore.
Yay!!!! More babies!!!❤❤❤
Yeah man!! Get covered in bottom, paint itchy fiberglass........WALK IN TO YOUR OWN HOUSE and hit a hot shower! And then sleep in a real bed. Hell yes!
👍
Can I just say,damn!!😊
Bouy…bouy….bouy………BOY!
Love Corsair's. If you guys like channel synergies. Another channel, "Ravenswing" is all about corsairs. He's had a F36 and is refurbishing a F25 Carbon now. 😊
I’ve watched every video of Greg’s :)
@SailingSoulianis Greg is amazing. I got to help him deliver a 44' Chris White trimaran from San Diego to San Fran. Well, we didn't quite get all the way there. He's got a video on that too. Greg still owns the 36/39 which he mostly built and modfied himself. It's down in Baja right now, I think. Few know as much about Corsair/Farriers and boat building and refurbishment as he does.
I saw his post looking for crew for that trip, and really wanted to go, but couldn't make it work timing wise! I would have loved to sail that boat. We toured it when it was in Chicago.@@mikemendes7598
. Yeah. Wish we'd actually sailed much. The 1st day and night there was no wind. Then we had 20 - 25 knots right on the nose and lumpy seas. It was no fun.
New drinking game: Every time they say "Boat" take a drink....
Guys,
You better hope no drunks come wondering down the road in front of your home, on a moonlit night, cause they are going to think an Alien Spacecraft has landed in your front yard. Yeah, you better let the local PD know about the Alien Spacecraft in your front yard too. Ehh, why not, call the local paper too. Folks will becoming from miles around. The frontpage headline will read: See the Alien Spaceship off of Quack Quack Lane. Kirk, now with a spaceship in your front yard, you can officially, ask Scottie to beam you up! 😂😂
Holy Quack! Marj, Kirk and Lauren have aliens in their front yard! I'll be Quack!
How will you solve the issue with the trailer hitting the depth sounder, thus another potential leak.
It's a good question which is one of the reasons we were considering removing it altogether. It's not ideal for going on and off the trailer....
13" of snow at my place but I see this was filmed in August.
Yikes! Where are you located Art? We're getting snow this week.
@@SailingSoulianis About 1,000 miles upwind of you. Just finished 4 days of snow everyday. Ended yesterday afternoon. My boat is in the marina parking lot waiting for welding shop to have room for trailer mods :-)
@@artsmith103 Hope it all goes well!
@@SailingSoulianis If I ever get my Mac26S to the Gulf for Snowbird sailing, your family is invited to crew along for as long as you like. P.S. we totaled 14-16" during the storm.
It looks like a spaceship has landed in your front yard.
That's the first thing I said too! -L
Just put beame under the main part..dont lower it. Your creating another problem jacking it back up.
My Reply (before even watching) to the question: Yes! For any two, other than you two. [Plus you are actually 4. . . so, moot point?]
whoop whoop, i'm 2nd :-))
I would seal up that hole. If you do keep it, recess it into the hull so it doesn't stick out if you drag the ground and rip it out and give you a really big leak.
ratchet straps on the arms to control extension and folding + hydraulic jacks = no hernias
New boatname is needed. Apparantly you will be a family of four. Wonderfull, however quite awkward if you want to rename a folding trimaran. Brainwave...."Fourfold" might be a great name. And change it again if the family become five into "Fivefold" etc etc etc. Soulianis II is an option too. However, bit boring, I guess.
BAD LUCK TO CHANGE THE NAME OF A BOAT
Another dead sailing channel.
Went on the ghost ship last night. reminds me, I better go put on the tarp and check the sinks. It’s that time in Michigan.!!!!
SV Memphis 😁
I think you are nice people, but you were way more interesting when it was just you two living on the boat…now you’re just 2 people with kids who live in a mobile home and sail part time..
Sailor trailer! Maybe we were more interesting then! What we are doing now is probably the middle boring part (before we go sailing again) to some people and the exciting part for others. We will never appeal to everyone. We’re just living our lives the way we want to do it.
Should of just gone to boat yard and had a pro do, not worth effort…ugh
Scheduling alone is the reason not to do that. Then there's the cost...
