⚠IMPORTANT!!!⚠
Hi again! The portfolio requirements from 2024 on have changed a bit and you can find them here: animationworkshop.via.dk/programmes-and-courses/bachelor-programmes/how-to-apply/portfolio-requirements-character-animation
The main changes are as follows:
-The letter of intention has been swapped out for a max 3 minute video introduction. (Basically the same contents but in a video format)
-”Freestyle” and “Optional” have been combined into one category that can be max 5 pages long, and they exclusively want drawing related work
-most of the categories require less drawings than before, making it easier for the reviewers to shift through a large amount of portfolios
-they have given extra info about each category
These changes were made less than two weeks after I uploaded this video, but luckily I think most of what I said here still holds up. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions!
Beautiful amazing show stopping never 👏 the 👏 same 👏
😮 I wish I have money to purchase art school
I'm ur biggest fan!!!!1!
So insightful! Thank you for sharing man
WOW this is amazing, thank you so much!!!
This was an amazingly put together video. It made me realize I have a lot of work to do, I was previously scared to even consider more popular schools like this and was just going to go for a small one I thought I had good chances with in Sweden.
Actively trying to put together and improve a portfolio like this seems like a great exercise to focus on the skills I will actually need to get a job later on, I know it’s way too late for me this year and I’ll have to settle for the small school in Sweden for now but I’m going to do my best for future years.
Thank you!
Det är fantastiskt att höra, lycka till! 💪
Im here before the video blow2s up hihii
Omg this helped me so much!!!! 😍
SAME 😍
Me too! it's so detailed and inspiring!

OMG I rember you! When your portfolio first pop up in the critique sections I said "whats there to criticize?". So glad you made it! Keep up with the amazing work
Thank you!
First!
This is INSANELY GOOD!
Thank you! 🙏
hes so cool
Thanks so much for sharing dude! I was planning on applying this year and i might just send in a "half baked" portfolio just for the sake of it but ill definitely be applying both for character animation and graphic design next year, wish me luck!
Awesome to hear! Though I assume by "graphic design" you mean either the "Graphic Storytelling" or "Computer Graphic Arts" lines, since TAW doesn't have a graphic design line. Just hoping to clear up any misconception.
Also, good luck! 👍
@@MihkaMantynen Haha my bad I meant graphic storytelling
SECOND
Nice
Ahhhh thank you so much i'm finding it really hard to find inspo and how to make my portfolio for TAW; i really need to improve if i wanna get there, THANK YOU A LOT REALLY
Hope you find the video helpful, and good luck on your portfolio!
2nd
Your work is awesome!Thank you a lot for sharing!I'm also curious about the admission test, I wonder if you could be kindly enough to share with us what you will be dealing with for the creative group assignment and individual drawing test? thx a lot
Thanks a bunch!
For our admission test, we didn't actually have a group assignment, and from what I remember, the last couple years of applicants didn't have it either. It might be coming back next year though, as the school is experiencing a lot of changes. The best place to stay up-to-date on this is probably the TAW applicant discord: discord.com/invite/9D5yMrZsXM
As for the individual test it was online and we were given 4 hours to complete it. We had to make a storyboard based on a prompt they gave us, and then design a character based off of that storyboard and draw them showcasing 3 specific emotions.
Hope that helps!
Thank you very much for the elaborate reply! It helps a lot!@@MihkaMantynen
So about the movement section, specifically where you mentioned drawing animated movement, do you think that if we were to do crouqis over key frames of a certain animation dressing it up as a different characters that it would be considered original enough and not flagged as plagiarism? What I was thinking on doing was creating a rock climbing scene similar to the one in the begging of The Croods, so an existing movie, but I'm scared of getting disqualified 😅
It might not directly count as plagiarism, but I would advise against it. In this case I would try to look for live action footage of people climbing rocks instead.
Animated movements are a good study in how to simplify something, but they often tend to have mistakes as well. (for example, our teacher this year showed us how almost every animated bird flies incorrectly)
Real life should always be the first you reference for body mechanics.
Hey, thanks for the video, BTW is that for entering 1st year in september 2024?
My portfolio was made for the 2023 class, but the people who apply this year are expected to enroll in September 2024. The deadline for this year's applicants is March 15th 2024.
The portfolio requirements for 2024 and onwards are slightly different and can be found here: animationworkshop.via.dk/programmes-and-courses/bachelor-programmes/how-to-apply/step2/portfolio-requirements-character-animation
hello! this video was very informative, thank you! I have a question, I'm not sure if you know, but do you think it is possible to apply to both the Character Animation program and the Computer Graphic arts one? because on the optagelse website you can only choose the bachelor of animation once (and both these programs are under the bachelor of animation)
Thanks, glad to hear it!
From what I've heard, it is possible. The school recommends against it though since it's double the work and can be a sign of indecisiveness.
But if I recall correctly, a current year CG student told us that they got accepted for both CG and CA and ended up choosing CG.
I would email the school about it to figure out the logistics.
@@MihkaMantynen Thank you so much! I had another question: if I were to be admitted to one of the courses (CA/CGA) could I later change it? like for example if i'm admitted to CA, can I change and go to CGA?
@@ender4056It's possible to switch but I'm pretty sure you'd have to go through the application process again.
Even if you had a previously accepted CGA-portfolio, you would most likely have to re-submit it and be evaluated alongside the new applicants.
Hi,it might be a silly question but how did you sign the cover letter ? Can I do it on photoshop or I have do do it the other way?
No worries!
I used a google slides template that I found on the TAW applicant discord to compile my portfolio, so the way I signed mine was by dragging a picture of my signature into the program.
I don't know which template you are using, but as long as you can get your signature on the page, it doesn't matter which program you do it in.
@@MihkaMantynen Thank you so much !
