    Wow. This whole time I've been doing storybeats. Thats why my "storyboards" didn't feel like it was going from one point to another. And in a children's book my sister and I are working on. I love that method even more ❤️

    I usually hear them referred to as Beat Boards. Though to confuse the matter, we often talk about the "beats" in a storyboard sequence- as in "we need to add a board/panel to cover the beat when the character says "time to fly". So a beat can be just a notable moment in time while a Beat Board is more of a single drawing to cover multiple moments in time.

    I was making storybeats and didn't realize it wasn't a storyboard portfolio, and wasn't getting any job offers. They did spark intrest in publishers though! Story beats are great for conveying your idea quickly. I think storybeats are great for personal projects.
    I'm working on actual storyboards now so I can get a job though. lol

    This was the exact kind of thing i was thinking of when creating a story i was planning on illustrating. I just didn't have a name for it. Now i can gather info on how to do beats properly! I was thinking of also merging some boards in there with the beats to get some of the action shots in.

  • @joelmayerprods
    @joelmayerprods Год назад +2

    In commercials a beatboard really all you do for client presentations. If you show up with a detailed, animation-ready storyboard, the client most of the time will be completely overwhelmed. Plus they can't really abstract enough to understand, that these aren't final drawings.

    I've considered doing stuff like this, but having the language to describe it is incredibly useful. I've been struggling to find a reason to make illustrations, being mostly focused on animations lately, leaving my webisites like newgrounds empty and barren in the meantime, but making story beats is a really great excuse to change that.

      I'm not a professional, but I think it would depend on the lengths between story beats. Storyboards are more moment-to-moment, closer to actual animation. story beats seem to be going from critical plot point 2 critical plot point

    Great advice and I love your style very whimsical yet grounded... Which since I work with alot of helmeted characters because my influences are video games mostly shooters and stragy games as well as Red Vs blue... I tend to express emotion though overall body motions and dialogue I also tend ot to use cinematic taqiuqes when it comes to color and compassion. As I prefer to tell it like it is and le he aundiince feel the emotiions for themshelves. Which gives my works a realistic feel and brings the audience into the world and gives the feel of being there hanging out with the heroes. Sill thanks for tthe advice of story beats II have to try it sometime!

Would it be before storyboarding or after storyboarding and designing the characters? i don’t see how you would do this before storyboarding and designing the characters because like how would you know what the characters look like?

I've always felt stuck because I'm terrible with writing scripts and outlines, which are necessary for storyboards. Storybeats seem like the more intuitive approach for visual/demonstrative learners such as myself :o

      I think storybeats has elements to animation ques. Toniko Pantoja brought up some, but what if a story's is either Micro or Macro? And what if movement lines have to be expressed ,or time of day? To me: It would be interesting to know what an Animation Consultant would think about the intricate elements of storybeats.

      Storyboards have a new illustration for when the scene changes - i.e when the 'camera' pov changes, or when new people arrive or for other events like that. Story beats are drawings that encapsulate things like the emotion, atmosphere, general mood etc of larger parts of the story that can span several scenes or more.
      That's how I took it anyways, hope that helps.

    It's a terrific concept! I can utilize AI to produce story beats for my projects as a comic book author and artist... I suppose it's okay because I'm the only one who can see this stage of the process (because I don't want to draw to death only to organize my projects). That can also help me get a solid sense of the story's pacing. Thanks!
