If you liked this one then plz also check out this one k thanks bye: ruclips.net/video/gxwMD-lFSts/видео.html
Arrangement, vocals and video by Farya Faraji. Galani Galaziani is a folk song from the area of Serres, Macedonia in Greece. I wanted the orchestration of this one to harken back to that of Greek music from a hundred years ago, with the Bouzouki and clarinet also being accompanied by now less widely used instrument like the Saz, the Oud, and the Kanonaki. I filmed the video during my three-week trip across Greece this month of May-ironically the home region of the song not being one of the places I visited. This will be the first in a series of videos I filmed in Greece during my trip so stay tuned for more.
    English translation:
    A noble lady invited me
In a sky blue dress from the blue sky
I was invited by a noble lady
A daughter of the city of Kalamata.
    I should come to dinner
I'm supposed to kiss her dark brown eyes.
She spreads out twelve sheets for me
In sky blue colour from the blue sky
She spreads out twelve sheets for me
A daughter of the city of Kalamata.
    And a golden feather quilt
    And a golden feather quilt.
I fall and sleep like a log
Sky blue from the blue sky
I fall and sleep like a log
A daughter of the city of Kalamata.
    Shall the morning ever dawn?
    Shall the morning ever dawn?
A poor girl invited me too,
In a sky blue dress from the blue sky
A poor girl invited me too
A daughter of the city of Kalamata.
    I should come to dinner
I'm supposed to kiss her dark brown eyes.

Wonderful! Both the cover of the song and the video clips! It's also great seeing you playing the Laouto! What you say about the disregard of old instruments is true, at least in some places, but there were regions were they held on to the traditional instruments. The sad thing about the Greek Saz-type instrument called Tampouras (the mainland Tampouras, not the Cretan one, which has other names too) is that it was so disregarded that the Greeks literally forgot how to make it, so when trying to bring up again many of the old instruments, they went to Turkey to study how the Saz was made. But, a Greek Ottomanologist, Dimitris Stathakopoulos actually found a tampouras that belonged to a Greek general of the revolution in 1821 called Makrigianis, and remade it, this instrument sounds a little bit different from the Saz. There are recordings on RUclips where you can listen to him playing the organ. Greece, of course, having many different musical styles in each region, had a variety of different instruments. In Serres specifically, the Pipiza (a small version of Zurna) and the Daouli (Davul) were usually played. Also I have to add that despite what you say about the regions filmed in these videos, the song mentions a girl from Kalamata, which is in southern Peloponnese so it's not that irrevelant to the region, hehe :)

    Loved the impro
I'm Greek and I've played this song (not as good as you) for a recording with the tampoura when at school, but have never done any research on the lyrics, so i will give an estimation that I believe to be mostly correct based on the use of the language (but it may have some flaws cause it's just emperical):
A noblewoman invited me, blue(eyed) blueish*
A noblewoman invited me, maiden [mostly used to describe a young woman] from Kalamata
To go, to have dinner and to kiss dark eyes (x2)
She lays me down twelve layers of sheet, blue(eyed) blueish*
She lays me down twelve layers of sheet, maiden from Kalamata
    And a golden quilt (x2)
I 'm lying down to hug [her, but she is like a] log, blue(eyed) blueish*
I 'm lying down to hug log, maiden from Kalamata
Oh my God, let me get to the dawn [earlier obviously] (x2)
A poor one invited me as well, blue(eyed) blueish*
A poor one invited me as well, maiden from Kalamata
To go, to have dinner and to kiss dark eyes (x2)
She lays me down an old [=shitty] wicker matting, blue(eyed) blueish*,
She lays me down an old wicker matting, maiden from Kalamata
    [something like that probably:
    chaliotisallseasons.gr/shop/paraliacamping/eksoplismos-paralias/psathes-paralias/psatha-paralias-raffia-70x200/ ]
    And a golden quilt (x2)
I 'm lying down to hug [her and she is like] gold, blue(eyed) blueish*,
I 'm lying down to hug gold, maiden from Kalamata
Oh my God, let me get to the dawn (x2) [metaforically or symbolic use of the language I guess? XD]
*when it say "Galani" it means blue eyed [there are also some Greek surnames like Galanos -which is the male for blueish, Galanou etc.]
when it says "Galaziani" it has probably two meanings:
    1. blueish (like a nickname of Galani)
    2. that origins from a place/village/city with a name like "galazia" or "galani" or something close to that
When it uses the whole "Galani - Galaziani" and "maiden from Kalamata" phrase, I guess it is referring either to the listener (that probably has those characteristics) or (more likely?) to the girls mentioned in the song, but in a more abstract way.
But again that is my emperical estimation :)

Wow! I am so impressed that you know so much about greek culture. For what you said in your description, yeah unfortunately many instruments lost popularity with the metaxas government banning """oriental""" sounding music in the 1930’s. But idk the kanonaki sneaks it way sometimes. I will say there are a few greek pop songs i know off the top of my head that have the Kanonaki. One is na soun psema by andromache and i epimoni sou by eleonora zouganeli

    English lyric translation:
A noble lady called me, blue, all blue
A noble lady called me, a girl from Kalamata
To go and dine, to kiss her black eyes
She lays out twelve mattresses, blue, all blue
She lays out twelve mattresses, a girl from Kalamata
And a golden quilt, and a golden quilt
I go to bed and her embrace is like a log's, blue, all blue
I go to bed and her embrace is like a logs, a girl from Kalamata
    Oh God, make morning come
A poor lady also called, blue, all blue
A poor lady also called me, a girl from Kalamata
To go and dine, to kiss her black eyes
She lays out an old mattress made of straw, blue, all blue
She lays out an old mattress made of straw, a girl from Kalamata
And a golden quilt, and a golden quilt
I go to bed and her embrace is like gold (or sweet, translating this word's hard), blue, All blue
I go to bed and her embrace is like gold, a girl from Kalamata
    Oh God, make morning come

@@CrazedIcelander well the song is pretty hard to translate for non native speakers because it has a few idiomatic expressions and patterns! So I can't really judge anyone for getting a coupe of things wrong
