While Yassir Qadhi's comments are certainly sensational, most sensible Muslims and ex-Muslims don't base their faith (or lack of) on the perfect preservation of the religious book. Many Muslims and apologists have no issues with multiple ahruf because the meaning is preserved. There are some non-sensible Muslims who were sold on a lie that every Quran is identical - to the letter - to the vowel. Personally, I never found the preservation claims remarkable for my faith.
I think many ex-Muslims are just not convinced that God revealed himself through an angel 1400 years ago to a man in Arabia. They find the claim of the Quran's perfect preservation irrelevant to proving the prophet's legitimacy

My brother is in this situation, unfortunately. And while you're we'll educated, I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of belief and choice. The thing is, he simply doesn't believe the Quran is divine, in the same way you and I don't believe the Hindu scriptures or the Book of Mormon are from God.
I don't think it's a "Decision" because I can't just "will" myself to believe the Book of Mormon is from God.
I have at home 2 different mushaf versions of the Quran in Arabic. One is called "Hafs" and is the most common. The other is "Warsh" and is the most common in Morocco. There are words, letters and verses different in these 2 Arabic versions. Anyone can search "Warsh and Hafs compared". Also of interest is to look at what the "Sanaa Quran" this old mushaf has 2 Arabic versions in one book with different letters and words.

@@patop6419 - the Sanaa is real no need to deny reality but even if that manuscript did not exist, there are still different Queens used today with different letters and words and verse numbers. Lookup Hafs vs Warsh Quran. There are many more versions.
