Ohh guys...that was cool, for this 60 year old. Spent many holidays in the late 90's through 2000's exploring and diving the Alderman's. We dived a pinnacle there once, can't remember what it was called....however we had to get down quickly because of the current. My dive buddy and I succeeded and were rewarded with squadrons of eagle rays flying over us....think it was "shagging" season for rays. The viz was like 100ft ...kingis everywhere and a variety of other fish. I will never forget the Alderman's ...cheers for the vid guys ;)

Great video as always Ollie, really enjoy the content you produce. Also your pronunciation of Maori names is really good aswell, wish you nothing but success brother.
Have been there probably 30 times , fishing and diving. Started out in a 15 foot plylite pride but we used ot go in convoy with other boats in case of breakdown. Worst wind was the S/W coming home , almost mountainous 12 miles off shore. Always 100 foot visibility, lots of kingis, trevally schools, pink and blue maomao. The sugarloaf is big game country , seen marlin , large sharks and even a sun fish. Have also seen whales , lots of dolphins and a giant turtle once.. One day in february 1990S there was marling jumping , boils ups and a large broadbill was on the surface cruising in front of us.. The 990 ib black marlin at Tairua fishing club was caught behind Slipper Island on that same day.. I loved this place, you guys are game going so far off shore in your little boat-good on ya.
Awesome read, the place sounds incredible back in the day with the marlin etc! Not sure if it still fires the same now. Will def have to get back out there in summer to check it out!

Hey bro, from watching a couple other spearfishing youtubers across the ditch it seems the best footage is when the go pro is facing upwards abit more to see the fish and the shot in the fish. But apart from that, great videos bro!

It’s a bit of mixed bag and to be honest expected a garden of Eden being fairly out of the way. Need to do more research and good luck to the both of us next trip.

Loaded gun in the boat.....not a good safety practice when boarding. Diver in Fiji shot himself passing loaded gun on board, spear went all the way through, crew cut the line leaving it protruding from both sides, headed into the coast, sat him in a chair and carried him to the highway to flag down a car. He survived with the Doc's opinion leaving the line in and not pulling it through helped save him. Been enjoying your vids.
