  • Yes, the Africans participated in the most horrific abuse on humans in the history of the world. Millions of humans being were captured and sold into 400 year of the cruelest and most demeaning conditions. Even today the American government sees unarmed Black men as a creature for hunting.

This is what I loved about Roots. They took their time and developed the characters and the story lines. I distinctly remember much of this clip. The white man shooting at the bird and the gun malfunctioning in his hands was almost certainly a well- researched event, that guns were not as easy and practical to use as they are now.

Europeans wouldn’t go off into the Jungle like this just randomly grabbing slaves. For starters , the tropical diseases such as Malaria were rampant and would kill Europeans quickly. They stayed offshore on their ships or close to the shore. Secondly, to randomly go catching slaves might anger certain tribes if you were catching their people. Europeans wanted to get in and out quickly

As an African man living in the US, I believed the truth is more complicated than we have been told. Yes African kingdoms fought other rivals kingdoms and tribes and sold their people to the white invaders whose war technologies were far superior to the Africans. I believed Africans sold rivals kingdoms and tribes for money and others goods but most importantly they did it to save their own tribes and kingdoms against the whites invaders. But it didn't help since the white invaders will come back later at the end of the 19th century to occupy, divide Africans kingdoms tribes and steal the natural resources to feed the industrial revolutions. The white invaders enslaved Africans to work in mines etc...enlisted them in the army for free to fight in World War 1 & 2. it will take till the late fifties thank to the Cold War for Africans to demand and gaining their independence from the occupiers. I sincerelry regret that our flesh and blood has to suffered such in inhuman treatment in the slavery that lasted for nearly 5 centuries. And the legacy of this evil enterprise still linger and shape the social, economy and political debate. I hope this was helpful to someone.

+komlan ahianor The first whites who came to Sub-Saharan Africa were not invaders, but merchants. The invasions followed decades, generations, or even centuries later, depending on which part of Africa you're looking at. To treat African coastal merchant princes' sales of African people from the interior as an attempt to buy off invaders is to conflate several periods of Euro-African interaction.

Then you are an idiot because all races of peoples have invaded and conquered lands that was not theirs. All races have been slaves. All races have been slave owners. Roots has done the world a great injustice by portraying slavery as a uniquely White on black institution which it was absolutely not! The Muslims trade of Africans was far worse. The Africans enslaved Europeans. That was no picnic either. The North American Indian enslaved each other. Africans enslaved each other. Europeans enslaved each other. Jews made slaves out of others and dominated the slave trade more than any other group. ROOTS is a FRAUD. Haley copied Courlanders book and was sued in court. Did you miss the memo?
