Yeah I agree I love my collection, if a better version comes out it doesn't matter to me. I am a huge starscream fan and looking forward to the new version but I most likely will just get him since he is my favorite and display the old seekers with him plus it will make his mold unique which starscream is lol
The problem is if you don't preorder and buy everything immediately when they release then you won't be able to get them without paying a premium with the exception of Takara but honestly the MP line has been very underwhelming the last couple years
@@G1Vortex And that's a big part of the problem. If you don't get New Figure X then chances are that you'll get stuck paying the late tax. That makes the burn out happen even faster.
@@G1Vortex really ? I just got Iron Trans Star Blade and Studio Cell not Unicron pretty exciting. Star Blade aka Star Saber is really amazing figure so much metal makes fans toys feel light weight by comparison and he looks oh so glorious. I have yet to pay a late tax for any figure in my collection I just wait till its reissued or someone makes another one. I put a priority on characters that really matter to me. I didn't have transformers growing up I was extremely poor I watched the cartoon and dreamed of the toys. These figures give me a chance to not relive my childhood but fix it deep in my subconscious because my childhood upbringing basically told me I couldn't have anything I wanted but now I can fill that void and I am loving it. So I ask you this why are you collecting and what do you value about what you are collecting?
@@zamuelwartower459 I was speaking in general most of the fan base when it comes to collecting. If there's something coming I preorder it and get on board but I recently came back to collecting after a few year break and now I'll never see the fanstoys insecticons or Dinobots in my collection unless they reissue. I'm not mad about it, thats the way the game goes but I can see it frustrating other collectors having the opt out
I have versions of the characters I want and only have a couple left to get. Once I have the last couple I'm calling it done. They are constantly coming out with slightly better versions and so I have decided to not do anymore upgrading, just fill gaps.
Man I really do love your topics...you have become my favorite reviewer and news. I really do look forward to your new topics. I hope one day I'll catch you at a TFCON if that ever happens again.
Collecting on and off since 96 haven't quit yet. Haven't bought a bigger house either. I revise my collection every few years to sell off the stuff that I think is obsolete for newer better versions👍
I semi quit because it got to a point where the prices are getting absurd for both 3p and official. I am not made of money. I'd still buy them once in a while but it's hard during this pandemic.
@@DiggitySlice Here's the thing, I'm not a fan of KOs. I ain't judging people that like them, I personally don't want them near me. I grew up in Asia with KO toys my whole life and they give me PTSD. Now that I do make money as an adult, I'd rather buy legit stuff if I find their prices reasonable. There are also websites like Mandarake and your local toyshows where you can buy legit stuff used or brand new for a discount by people who just want them gone. Take example TFcon Toronto 2019, I bought an MPM03 Bumblebee Brand new for $25 because the guy wanted his overstock gone and nobody would buy it because the box was busted. You would think it was KO but it has all the manufacturer's tramp stamps a KO wouldn't have.
One thing you forgot and one I see. Its the Siege/Earthrise figures. They are 90% of the fun of Masterpiece at 10% of the price. Omega Supreme, Jet Fire, Hoist, and especially Cliff Jumper. All are so close that I can't justify the MP price. For the best example look at the new Earthrise Bumblebee and look at the 1st and 2nd MP Bumblebee. They don't even come close to the Earthrise.
Agreed, the quality of the MP lines just isn't enough to justify the price (even before scalping) when the Hasbro/Takara-Tomi current generation toys are just amazing. Earthrise Prime makes MP-10 seem under-engeneerd for the cost of finding one. Between COVID slowing everything from design and production to shipping, on top of the usual scalping of popular high end products, it's just not a great time for collecting MP transformers... Earthrise can be found at Walmart and Target for $20-50 and exclusives as well as selects repaints are easily found on Amazon for the same price point. I don't know too many people that have more than one or two Masterpiece in their collection, and they are nice, but at that high of a price point, is it even a toy any more?
@@suprizeoptomist4680 it's a fair point you make. For me I really only collect masterpiece as I see them primarily as display pieces, not toys. I think the purpose of your collection helps define what you collect. You're 100% right, the engineering and playability of modern mainline figures (siege onwards for the most part) is light years ahead of where they have been and they're great toys! But for what I'm trying to achieve display wise masterpiece scaled figures is where its at. And the slow down hasn't been a bad thing for my wallet!
@@TheGoodriddance44 if it weren't for the fact that getting into collecting transformers recently was largely driven by the desire to pass on some cool toys from my misappropriated youth, I might be inclined to get more MP collectables. As it is, I couldn't sell the combiner POTP Dinobots or Terrorcons because as soon as they were old enough to play with my toys, I let my kids at them and now I can't take them away. They're rabid over anything with a beast mode.
These sell outs were seeing are orchestrated by Fanstoys, I have heard from a supplier they manipulating how much they get and after the release giving them options to buy more. We need more competition, TE I’m looking at you!
You know that theory has even more depth. There is absolutely no difference between Koot from 2017 and 2020 and I wonder if they are actually from the same production run. Same story with most reissues. They can not be that scarce if there is a warehouse full of them waiting for prices to rise. Thanks
Apparently there is a difference between the two. One area of transformation, the wheel area, allows for more rotation, making the process easier according to some people who have both versions
Yeah, that Make Toys Contact Shot is in my opinion one of the most underrated figures that I have in my collection. You hit on some great points. Good vid!
@@IrishKyokushin yea same for me, every once in a blue they'll have one that I have little to no connection to but it's still so well done I have to add it to my collection. The flame toys star saber is the perfect example of that, cuz I did like his IDW incarnation but had zero connection to TF victory.
A big problem the official Takara Masterpiece line has is that they play it safe with what transformers they turn into figures. Also they tack on a ton of accessories to inflate the price (MP prime... need I say more?).
My difficulty is losing my collection room to my second child. Working on that buying a bigger house suggestion 👍. Though I like the newer figures looking perfect in each mode and the intrigue of how they do the transformation, the transformation is getting too time consuming, less fun, and the figures feel like they can’t hold up like the old ones. Who do you all think can take the most transformations among the mp scale primes: mp-10, mp-44, magic square, transform element? Feels like mp-10 right?
I'm more a chug collector due to space and price. That, and by the time i was able to start collecting a MP line (primal and BW Megs being my absolute first, there was just way too many g1 figures for me to ever be able to catch up. So bbn I'm just sticking to the MP BW. But I do have FT Berserk pre-ordered just to have a great Blitzwing. I really wanted to pre-order FT Thomas but literally sold out EVERYWHERE. And I really like and want a superb astrotrain. And yes, I'm fudging them into my chug cuz triple changer scale is wonky at times. I alsobhave MP Arcee pre-ordered just to say I have a g1 mp
Takara and Hasbro has the license to make various TF models, I mean, they can make a complete set of the entire G1 to G3 lines but all they do are re-issues of the same thing. Take a look at Optimus Prime for example, how many figures did these two companies released in his image but each had different transformation modes? I want a complete set of the Wreckers, Dinobots, Coneheads and/or any other subdivisions of the Autobots and Decepticons that I could make a diorama with. I bet the fandom feels the same and I am sure that they will even pay Hasbro or Takara if they make this happen.
I assume you include what I have heard as mold Fatigue when you say getting same characters over and over like the new Takara Seeker mold they just announce. One of the other things I’ve seen is the direction of MP. When it started it was more stylized versions of characters and now its more cartoon accurate. While I appreciate this approach, i feel that has some impact. I like figures to have more Realistic Alt modes than to have ultra Cartoon accuracy. I think too much cartoon accuracy makes the figures not as fun to transform and looking too plain. One of the reasons the characters where more plain in the animation was for budget constraints. I feel sometimes too cartoon accurate is a problem too. I also feel that there are a lot more people who are in the hobby not so much as collectors, but maybe as investors. One thing though about obscure characters is that you have a lot of people who are very particular about an obscure character, so if you take the risk of the figure you kind of have to nail it otherwise it could potentially sink you. I also never met so many people who buy 2 or 3 of everything so much. It is interesting to see where the fandom has grown from since what I refer to as the original 3rd party figures like Hercules and Giant to where we are now. Good episode. I have seen your videos show up a lot in my suggestions, so I finally decided to watch and comment.
the beast wars units are amazing! those that are just after them are sticking with them. as well as grabbing up every third party figure that comes out if there is any one reason to quit g1 mp collecting it's that latest bumblebee (or how many freakin optimus' are there)
Some reasons for me is how some of the transformations are a little frustrating due to how complicated they are and the instructions are difficult to follow. Another is the risk of damaging or even breaking limbs or parts clean off, especially if it’s £100. I purchased the Sky Lynx 3rd party one, and I ended marking the mouth when trying to open it because of how stiff it’s joints were. Finally, I decided to limit myself to the scaled down ones, but the companies that make them are either not producing any new ones or they just close up shop.
I just collect Takara (started last August), and I only have space for 2 DETOLF cabinets in my office so I have to limit what I can get. It’s the only toy / action figure I can collect due to space.
GibDozer1 Once I saw Takara’s MP-13 Soundwave with the correct eye color I was hooked. More so with MP-36, and MP-44 who look like they were ripped straight from the cartoon.
@@scottcampbell9515 I get that. I've been buying less MP in favor of Legends. But yeah even if I sell off most of my MPs gems like the ones you mentioned I'm keeping lol. MPs definitely have more display value than legends, just thought I'd suggest it since space is an issue.
I never pre-order and never had a Problem to get the figure i want, latest buy Was ft magnum. I actually don't get people who pre-order like have a year without knowing if it will be good or Not.
At some point I will have all the characters I want and if there is a better option out there at some point then maybe I will replace a few but I feel like I will always be interested in the hobby and excited to see the different directions 3rd party companies take. Thanks Mike!
i only collect favorite characters. just need Fanstoys Jazz & Perceptor, then eventually Windblade then i’m mostly done. or might someone try to outdo Fanstoys’ G1’s? that’d be a tall order!
Some transformers like combiners, or massive 2 foot upscales, or what about something like toyworld prime where there is massive details and amazing paint. I agree most figures should stay in the 150 margin but i think some should be exceptions.
That was my limit. Not that I couldn't afford it, it just wasn't worth more than that IMO. Once the regular releases came out for more, and cheaper quality, I took a stand with my wallet. I have the same limit for 6th scale, $250. So if Hot toys wants to charge more, then I go 3rd party.
I agree, I paid 550 for my Shuraking, 520 for my MMC Predaking, 200 for my FT Grimlock and don't feel like spending another 800 just to get the other 4. Had they kept the dinobots at around 130 dollars, I would have not hesitated to buy. Reasonable prices to me were 60 dollars for the autobots, 80 dollars for the seekers, 130 dollars for MP-10 size. Now they are asking 120 for a new bumblebee? Screw that, I dont even like bumblebee.
3p transformers are usually too rich for my blood, ive only ever dipped into a few add on sets for Generations and bought some of the old Fanstoys that i got for a good deal (their roadbuster and springer). Curious, did any company ever make an Air Hammer?
I absolutely HAVE to complete my Seasons 1 and 2 collection. That G1 S1 mini-catalog display is permanently burned into my mind. Not so fired up about Season 3 or The Headmasters and beyond, as I was beginning to age out of TFs when those came out, and they never got as deeply engrained into my psyche. But S1 & S2, though? I'm all in. And I have accepted my fate to pay the resale market's late tax for missing out on earlier releases. I finally got my Cloud 9 Quakeblast that way, and it was totally worth it! I can be patient.
If you don’t preorder have to pay more when it’s re-released. You look at a figure on a Monday and tell yourself “I’ll wait till payday.” Tuesday, reviews start popping up. Wednesday, Twitter blows up with pictures of the figure you want. Thursday, people are convinced by social media, this is the best figure in the world. Friday, the figure is sold out, another preorder is up for the figure but now cost &25 bucks more and will not be released for another 2 months.
I've definitely lost interest in MP since I started getting 3P legends over Siege/ER. I can't decide if I want to sell off my MPs, but I'm leaning that direction. I think I will keep a handful of them and ditch the rest. Legends are cheaper and just more fun (imo) MPs are becoming too big a pain in the ass to transform and play with, which is what I enjoy about the hobby.
It took a while for me to understand the attraction to Legends but they are cheaper, look super G1 and I never worry about breaking when transforming. Thanks
Agredd for the most part but my thing is imo i dont think mps should be played with but thats me. And for the transformations they kinda have to be that way to get both modes as accurate as possible. These are my opinions tho and i respect yours.
Got back into collecting this year. I'm more of a CHUG collector but lately been getting more into 3rd party and KO oversized stuff. I have no intent on buying any Hasbro/Takara MP's. Due to the prices and hearing so many complaints about quality issues. The purchase would have to make sense for me to get Hasbro MPs but with 3P and KO's having so many options with good quality and price I doubt I would.
I just have a few gaps in my collection to fill and then I will probably be out also. I'm just looking to complete my XTB Menasor and MMC Bruticus and FT Astrotrain and that pretty much knocks out my wants.... I have been resisting the upgrade game so far... It would have to be something special at this point for me to replace anything I've got now.
I'm losing interest because the prices are insane now. This is a niche market, if they lose their base, then the companies will go under. These are not necessities, especially during this pandemic time.
Recently bobbyskullface was calculating about his Seekers purchases. It came up to around $2700, and he's certain he's done with them and not interested in the Takara 3.0. I can understand why. I myself is not a completionist, I buy what looks cool, from IronTrans Star Saber to MakeToys Thunder Erebus to Perfect Effect Leonidas. I think we are at the point that a 'complete' collection will always feel open for changes, like "you need to get the Fans Toys or this or that version for that character".
That is true when you spend so much money to get the best today and have to replace next year. There are many figures I am satisfied with and will not bother upgrading. As for the seeker 3.0 I am also seekered out and may wait for KO. Thanks
For me, the biggest factor has been steadily improving quality and variety with the mass retail lines, with things like Head/Target/Power/Action Masters, obscure combiners, deep cuts like Punch/Counterpunch and the G1 fembots all getting reimaginings. The only MP I’ve bought these last few years is the recent MB-12 Athena, because Minerva’s a super niche character as far as western fans are concerned, so I doubt she’s a priority for Hasbro.
As a chogokin collector - and as much as I enjoy following TF news, watching videos like yours and from other passionate TF collectors - those are exactly the reasons why I never started /I'll never start collecting Transformers figures. Way too long since I felt like it's not a fun hobby to cultivate anymore.
@@tydiriumhanger1320 That's for sure and don't get me wrong, I literally drool all over TF collections like yours, and in general I'm in for all kinds of collecting. It's just my personal stance on this specific subject, really.
The Siege, Earthrise, (and upcoming Kingdom) lines have produce Masterpiece quality figures at a slightly smaller scale and are infinitely more affordable.
I had a pretty huge MP/3P collection but sold it off last fall - here's my 3 reasons: 1. They just weren't fun anymore - I like to have a couple out on my desk and flip them back and forth once in a while, but they either got too valuble, too delicate, overly complex/ frustrating engineering, poor build quality (Don't get me started on Zeta combiners and Constructor), etc. 2. I HATED Takara going super toon accurate, it looks cheap and cheesy. 3. I migrated to Legends, Newage and Magic Square are pretty much making mini MPs. They are excellent, less expensive, and I'm having fun again.
There sure is an appeal to the legends scale. It seems like there is a line drawn where New age and Magic Square shifted to MP like figures and that really changed the game. Thanks
Yeah, the tune looked pretty cool... but the prices were just so high for those. They seemed cheaper of course like kids toys, not refined or detailed and stuff which wasn't the point. So that's hard to spend money on a Fisher Price Playmobil Kenner type toy. LOL
The reason I quit with takara is the figures got expensive but feel cheaper and more likely to break like the new hound I wanted it but looks like it might break in the middle and I love tracks but it feels cheap
@@tydiriumhanger1320 That and the constant "rebooting" of the Line. Mp1 was great and then by MP10 they decided scale was important. Now with MP-44 they decided to make everything as close to the cartoon as possible. They'll probably reboot the line again for an inevitable Optimus 4.0.
Agreed man! I see alot of ppl posting here saying their not but just wait until they miss a PO and start dealing with Scalpers. I'm officially thru after FT Menasor. Been @ this hobby for almost 8 years now and it's really ridiculous how shit is nowdays. Seriously takes the fun out of the hobby.
I've been collecting Masterpiece for a couple of years, but I have just discovered the New Age Line. They are smaller, half the price and look great in both their modes. Highly tempted to sell my Masterpiece collection and go on a New Age shopping Spree.
I just did this literally ($2500 in)... legends scale is where it's at now and there are plenty of options. Iron Factory is the best at this size but new age has nice figs. They also scale really well with the Hasbro titans. You won't regret it. I sold all my 3rd party masterpiece combiners and now own about 70+ legends scale figs. Many of my friends who also collect have converted over as well; the only problem is we're late to the game and some great legends scales guys have long since sold out (mainly Iron Factory and for good reasons) -> they also take up less shelf space which is also a plus. Start with Iron Factory first... hands down the best company in this scale; their Bruticus, phase sixers, and team DJD are simply amazing. I recently picked up their version of the fallen and it's just too freaking good looking in person. The "UT" headmasters look great with the new WFC Siege Scorponok. Once I seen what the 3rd party scene started offering alongside the quality-> masterpiece quickly became a thing of the past. You can get soo many awesome figs and really cheap at that. I used to only collect Decepticons, but because of the new price difference-> I now have a huge autobot army as well.
Masterpiece used to be fun. I have the 25th Anniversay Optimus that was the first "masterpiece". I love him. He's easy to transform and THAT makes him fun. The following reasons are what go through my head when I think about quitting the collection game. 1) Artificially limiting quantities to drive sales/price increases. 2) Overabundance of scalpers now target releases thus taking the fun out of even trying to collect 3) Quality Control issues in materials used for figures 4) Breakage issues, Whether from poor quality materials or SUPER over complicated transformations does not lend to anyone wanting to spend $200+ dollars on a figure. Out of 3 Aerialbots by Fanstoys. 2 have had reported breakage issues. That's NOT a good ratio. Makes one wonder just how easily Superion could break 5) Over complicated transformations - A slightly complex transformation can be fun but it does not lend itself to casually flipping a character from alt mode to robot mode. Also, as stated above when that complexity lends itself to breakage of a figure you run the risk of pissing off your client base. Fanstoys has it's fanbois but they are not exempt from having serious issues with breakage, especially recently. Maverick, Sheridan, Iceman, etc. 6) Overabundance of the same character - As you stated in the video "How many Damn Optimus Primes do we need?" 7) Waiting for the perfect representation of a character. Back in the day Badcube was one of the ONLY companies doing the minibots. They weren't the best representation but they worked. The only other company doing or hinting at doing them is Fanstoys. 8) Flooding the market with releases. Right now there is at least 1-2 scheduled releases for every month left in the year. My stack list for preorders on TFsource has 8 MP offerings. That's at least $10000 spent on the collection just for the last 1/2 of the year. Back when they were 3-4 a year it was manageable (about $600/yr). Now it's becoming a major source of expenditure ($1500-2000/yr). 9) Display Space - Not every collector has room to display such large figures. The Legends scale offerings are much more manageable for space consumed. They are becoming more like mini MP's making them just as desirable as the actual MP's, without the need for an entire basement to display them all. this is not a reason to not collect just an observation Under represented figures - Headmasters, Targetmasters, Power Masters, Monsterbots, Triggerbots, Pretenders, etc have a niche that is not being realized. Fanshobby did they Monsterbots. Make toys has done a couple of the headmasters and one target master. So where is Highbrow, Brainstorm, Siren, Nightbeat, Hosehead, Sureshot, Joyride, Crosshairs, etc? No where because they are obscure characters that no company seems to want to take on.
As soon as someone makes a Cliffjumper I can proudly put in my collection and an Ultra Magnus that isn’t made by someone trying to compensate for “something”. I mean come on, he isn’t THAT much bigger than Prime. That’s when my collection will be complete.
The people quitting is mainly they can’t or don’t want to afford it. It’s not worth it to them anymore. I collected Macross for years before MP Transformers so for me, it took from 2015 until just recently that it even sniffed that sort of pricing, so I’m not being chased away by price.... especially when I largely have the collection I wanted, not too many more figs to get these days.
Not quitting at all. Right now I'm concentrating on Legends & Generations scales. Official & 3rd party are kinda a mess right now. Too many of the same characters, no one other than FansToys is producing G1 characters, and the jacking up of prices. What I've decided to do is just buy KO & wait for private collectors to sell off their collections. I refuse to pay over the recommended price. I really wanted FT's Seaspray 2.0, Trailbreaker, & Beachcomber but not for a higher price than expected. $150 is too much for a Takara carbot. I've ordered the XTransbots versions of those characters and I'll be just fine.
I love Legend size figures and would have loved to collect them, but I did not feel like paying 50 dollars for a legends figure. I feel that they should be better priced at around 25-30 dollars. I do have some of the Hasbro legend size figures from Target and Walmart and I love them. The insecticons were cool, windcharger was great, beachcomber was solid and my favorite was probably seaspray.
issue about the price, its because there are many collectors who JUSTIFIES it, saying things like "its their right to sell it how much they want, take it or leave it!" in a rude way. I agree, BUT, i dont think any collectors should support this kind of mentality, i mean, yes, we can all agree that its upto them how much they want to sell their products, but do you really have to defend that mentality? seriously? theres no need to remind anyone about that(whether they know it or not) if youre not against it, fine, just dont support it.. PLEASE...
I will be perfectly happy with the Hasbro R.E.D. line when it comes out. Articulation and show-accurate looks is all I want. I've never bought a Masterpiece or 3rd party because of the price.
Fanstoys dinobots Stomp and Scoria have left a huge gap in my collection. For the price I have seen them on ebay and even the FB groups there not even worth it now.
Love your videos! I have been collecting Transformers since 1984 so I don't see me getting out of the game ever. I have 300 to 400 pieces which represents around half of what I have had in total. I love the original two seasons of characters and always enjoy a new take on an old favorite when it is done well. The masterpiece line is no exception to this. I do not need every version of every character that comes out and will update my collection from time to time to keep it fresh and interesting to me. I will update only when the improved version is so far advanced beyond what I have that I can't resist temptation. Otherwise, why bother? The prices are getting crazy and the scarcity is annoying, but these are good problems to have. If we can bellyache about these things, that means we don't have real problems like having adequate food and shelter and clothes...... Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Blessings!
I used to be excited about 3p figures in general, I bought every version of Hot Rod/Rodimus out there with the exception of DC9 Carry only because I can't find him anywhere for a good price. But there came a time where I just wanted a perfect, nicely painted and greatly articulated figure and those are few and far between. When they first dropped images for that kuro kara kuri flame toys Optimus Prime I was on board thinking he'd be the only figure I'd purchase from them, but as it turns out it ended up being everything I wanted in a transformer and despite it not transforming I bought 3 out of the 4 currently available(they really need to reissue Drift). As a kid when I played with my tf the transformation gimmick was a huge deal but as an adult who doesn't really fiddle with figures anymore(unless neccessary, you know the shitty instructions) and mostly sets the collection up on an self and admires them from a distance and I'm good. In fact as an adult I've only transformed mp10 and mp hot rod, they rest I take out the box, put them in the most badass pose the articulation would allow and leave them there. Takara should probably consider ditching transforming mp and focus on something like metal build transformers, saves them the headache of figuring out the engineering and allows them to put out more obscure characters. Cuz really, do we as adults play with tf the way we used to, needing the quick 5-10 sec pause to transform the figure to get back into the action? Or would you prefer the ultimate rendition of a character in bot mode knowing you'll never/rarely transform him into anything else?
My intention is to quit after Gravestone's trailer. I do want a Reflector though, so I will probably grab a reissue. I have a rough theme running through my collection: if the original toys did not represent the characters well (for example, Ironhide or Galvatron) OR if I didn't have them and really wanted them OR if they were hard to get at the time. I've been wanting a Huffer, but the previous ones are impossible to find, and the Fanstoys one will no doubt cost a mint. We'll see.
Yes you have a list of characters to look forward to in the future. You can take your time and get the one you want the most when Fanstoys drops. So for Huffer you can go with Fanstoys or watch groups around the time of FT releases as collectors sell off their older versions and you can grab a final victory or badcube for a good price at that point. Thanks
I'm not about to quit or anything, but seeing all these limited runs of Fans Toys products is seriously discouraging. Seriously, how is Beachcomber or Drag Strip a limited release? They better get reissued.
imho a large masterpiece collection doesn't make a lot of sense. you can't appreciate it. you give special attention to centerpiece figures, and the rest just sort of blend together
I have a small collection and I am pretty selective on which characters I want and which ones I want to get to represent those characters. If there is some aspect of a toy that I find questionable or I don't like then I won't get that character even if it is the best representative of that character on the market and with no known alternatives. Right now I own a total of 5 MP transformers with two more on pre-order and an expectation to buy 3 more before the year is out. After that there really is only 3 more MP's I want that don't currently exist in a form I want. If they ever come out with a represenntation of these 3 I love then I will get them. Good topic, by the way. I hope I see some of these characters in the future but I won't hold my breath or lose sleep over it one way or the other.
Not quitting MP, but getting near the end. I want to redo a few carbots with better figures and finish more combiners... but then I'm pretty much done until we get more ______masters. I recently kicked Toyworld Arcee to the curb for MP Arcee. I'm switching to BW MP now. I'm 34 both the G1 toon and BW were my childhood. You can get most the thr season 1 maximal team now and Transact-SQL upgraded upsized versions of the TMs are opening a nice new front. I don't collect until it looks like a set CAN be completed
I bought like 3 peoples collections, spent around $350 and got an ungodly amount of transformers... had a large optimus prime selection, a few different combiners, a full CHUG collection that represented every G1 character (used to have the FULL g1 line.... with boxes and sytrafoam, but my step mother shipped them all to Philippines >
When I retire in 10 yrs I'll stop but I'll never fall out of love with mp ! Never lose interest! And starwars is not more fun and is no where near as well made. Look at the last release of Luke! Horrible!
If you need to replace a character. Put the other in vehicle mode. It’s a TRANSFORMER. It has two mode. Sheridan in bot mode. Wardog. Tank mode. Hydra bot mode. The mmc one. Vehicles mode. But now it’s getting ridiculously with these bot selling out too quickly.
my reasons: I lost interest, I moved a few times and had to pack them, they got expensive, I don't follow them that much and when they are released they are sold out. I used to have a friend that had a hobby store, I got both of mine there. He went out of business/ did something else with his life. Got my Masterpiece Skywarp and Grtimlock back in the days for around 125-175 (forgot the price but this was the range), not sure how much they are now. If they are out of this price range I don't even care to buy it.
Back in the day it was something special a MP release every now and then. So then you got to spend on other lines and it was enjoyable. Now there’s a “MP” release every other month or so and it’s exhausting. MP burnout, facts!! I haven’t stopped collecting I’ve just stopped jumping at all the “MP” releases. Started being selective and collecting other lines and wouldn’t ya know it my love came back. Doing this for 20 years means changing it up from time to time. Ya I said it “MP”. Stay safe. Peace!
COVID brought in a crap ton of new collectors. I don't know how many new people I saw on the FB Groups saying I'm new to collecting how do I get all the FT figures. They were dropping a S-Ton of cash to get them all in one scoop.
As long as they keep making them look just like the cartoon and to scale I will never stop..I have been collecting transformers since 1984..but only up to the movie..
Hey mr hanger what is your opinion on gunpla or gundam? I love gundam but also transformers. On this topic i think the price is too high they should scale it down a bit. Great video btw 👍
I love collecting Transformers, really is an exciting time! Especially now that all these 3rd party companies are going in! You look at what Fanstoys, Xtransbots, Dx9, Fanshobby, Mmc, ect. Is doing and is absolutely amazing!! I mean we're getting stuff like Mp-44, MP-47, Ft Sovereign, Quietus, etc. We've Never seen this level of Masterpiece before. Not to mention The Earthrise War for Cybertron Seige line seems to be doing extremely well. I mean Pre-orders are Selling out within weeks! People seem interested!! I hope the Netflix Animated series does well. Mann!! Best time to be a Collector!!🌟♥️Great video Mike!
I am getting tired of the constant onslaught of "upgraded" figures, the prices keep going up and the figures getting harder and harder to get because they want to charge extra now for shipping. In other words, they are pricing themselves out of business and making obsolete past purchases. The quality is something else you have to worry about. What was good about the old days was even if you hated the representation of a character: that was what you were getting and that was that. I wouldn't trade back then for now but now it is never-ending flood of over-priced toys.
Never purchased any tomy takara master piece figures as their retail is ridiculously high. I have instead purchased some 3rd party master piece level figures which are fine for me.
Having spent a lotta money on various lines over the last decade or so I can honestly say that my Siege Sideswipe that I picked up for £16 from Smyths toys on my way home from work one day is probably the best Transformer I own. THATS why people are ditching Masterpiece
I think people wind up burning themselves out trying to keep up with buying everything that comes out. They can't just be happy with what they got.
That is a great way to go about collecting these days! Thanks
I'm quickly running out of space. Solution: I bought a bigger house.
LOL That is an issue and a solution! Thanks
Yeap I did the same bigger house obtained
BlackRonin Bravo! No brainer there. Out of space, get a mansion.
That's love 👍
I will only quit when I finish my collection lol
Never then lol
Sounds like you will be around for a long time LOL Thanks
Hence, never 😅

Me as well
Working out while listening to your videos is a recent pleasure of mine. Your videos are almost the same length as deadlift sessions. Keep it up.
Glad you enjoy! Keep up the training that is so beneficial these days! Thanks
Man I really do love your topics...you have become my favorite reviewer and news. I really do look forward to your new topics. I hope one day I'll catch you at a TFCON if that ever happens again.
the masterpiece line got too expensive, seriously they should limit the price to like 200$ max
After my post-di$ney divorce with Star Wars, I wanted to get into the new GI Joe line, but apparently the market is run by scalpers
I agree with you buddy.
Im actually interested in the declassified line too, but they're very hard to find. Frankly scalpers makes it hard to collect more so than ever.
That's what's going on with war for Cybertron line 😂
This channel is so under-rated. Definitely deseving of 50k subscribers at least...keep up the good work tho Tydirium
I have no intention of stopping. Three years in, and still enthusiastic.
That's what I am talking about:)
There is still a lot to be excited about these days! Thanks
Collecting on and off since 96 haven't quit yet. Haven't bought a bigger house either. I revise my collection every few years to sell off the stuff that I think is obsolete for newer better versions👍
Same here dude, all in!!!!
I semi quit because it got to a point where the prices are getting absurd for both 3p and official. I am not made of money. I'd still buy them once in a while but it's hard during this pandemic.
lanoche I totally feel you. The thing is, I have way too many transformers. How much is enough?
The KOs are a good alternative. Haven't had a major problem with any of them
@@DiggitySlice Here's the thing, I'm not a fan of KOs.
They don't even come close to the Earthrise.
yeah they look really good
Yes the gap between mainline and MP is narrowing every year. I am excited for many mainline releases. Thanks
Good vid!
I wasn't born a quitter.
People can quit if they want, I'm not. I'm always looking for the best interpretation of every character...and I still don't have them all.
That is true! There are still many great things to look forward to in the MP line for years to come. Thanks
I believe if Flame Toys lowered their prices they could replace masterpiece figures.
Same
I only buy the characters I actually care about.
@@IrishKyokushin yea same for me, every once in a blue they'll have one that I have little to no connection to but it's still so well done I have to add it to my collection. The flame toys star saber is the perfect example of that, cuz I did like his IDW incarnation but had zero connection to TF victory.
Have about 11 of them. Love them💯
As long as Fanstoys keeps pumping them out I won’t stop. A little KFC, Xtransbots, and Takara sprinkled in as well.
Yes it is hard not to become a Fanstoys Fanboy with all the great releases but the others still have great offerings as well! Thanks
A big problem the official Takara Masterpiece line has is that they play it safe with what transformers they turn into figures. Also they tack on a ton of accessories to inflate the price (MP prime... need I say more?).
Thanks for reminding me I don't have MakeToys ContactShot.
Feels like mp-10 right?
thank you for your thoughts and opinions
I can’t stand quitters, they ain’t about that life
I'm more a chug collector due to space and price.
I’m just buying the ones I wanted when I was a kid. 😂
That's my biggest complaint it's like I'm collecting backwards
the beast wars units are amazing! those that are just after them are sticking with them. as well as grabbing up every third party figure that comes out
if there is any one reason to quit g1 mp collecting it's that latest bumblebee (or how many freakin optimus' are there)
Some reasons for me is how some of the transformations are a little frustrating due to how complicated they are and the instructions are difficult to follow.
Anyone know what happened to that 3rd party Arcee from Big Fire Bird called Nicee?
I just collect Takara (started last August), and I only have space for 2 DETOLF cabinets in my office so I have to limit what I can get. It’s the only toy / action figure I can collect due to space.
Ever looked into 3P legends? Just curious since space is a concern.
GibDozer1 Once I saw Takara’s MP-13 Soundwave with the correct eye color I was hooked. More so with MP-36, and MP-44 who look like they were ripped straight from the cartoon.
GibDozer1 I’m also not trying to mix brands.
@@scottcampbell9515
I get that. I've been buying less MP in favor of Legends. But yeah even if I sell off most of my MPs gems like the ones you mentioned I'm keeping lol. MPs definitely have more display value than legends, just thought I'd suggest it since space is an issue.
You have the chance to pick what you like and not buy the REGRET figures like many have in the past. Thanks
Sounds like you an I will always enjoy our collections even if MP ended tomorrow! Thanks
I gave it in as i was priced out. I simply couldn't afford to keep up. It's sad. Money is king
i only collect favorite characters. just need Fanstoys Jazz & Perceptor, then eventually Windblade then i’m mostly done.
or might someone try to outdo Fanstoys’ G1’s?
that’d be a tall order!
Anything over $150 is too much for a Transformer. In my opinion
That is true! There was a time I could not let myself spend more than $100 but times have changed. Thanks
So happy i went legends scale!
Just got astrotrain for 30 and omega supreme for 50 😁
3p transformers are usually too rich for my blood, ive only ever dipped into a few add on sets for Generations and bought some of the old Fanstoys that i got for a good deal (their roadbuster and springer).
I agree with you. Also, you can get the Legends shipped quicker vs MPs.
It took a while for me to understand the attraction to Legends but they are cheaper, look super G1 and I never worry about breaking when transforming. Thanks
@@tydiriumhanger1320
Your legends reviews helped convince me to take the plunge so thank you.
Agredd for the most part but my thing is imo i dont think mps should be played with but thats me. And for the transformations they kinda have to be that way to get both modes as accurate as possible. These are my opinions tho and i respect yours.
I think a lot of people quit because they have wives that tell them to end. And kids that eat up money.
I’ve never even brought a 3p MP TF before... 😂
Hey, there's nothing Wong with that.
I'm on disability thats my excuse and can't afford any of the master price figures especially when they at a hobby or comic book store
i'd say, for the most part, either lack of funds or patience.
I'll admit, 80% of my MPs are KOs.
It is good to be deliberate in your collecting and enjoy this hobby. Thanks
I'm losing interest because the prices are insane now. This is a niche market, if they lose their base, then the companies will go under. These are not necessities, especially during this pandemic time.
I don't mind them taking all the time they need to make the figure good quality. I prefer they take the time they need to do the job right.
so right on selection price quality quantity keep the fans happy
Thanks
I dropped the G1 MP line all together and started collecting the Beast Wars line, the quality and consistency is so much better
That is a good point and it is a deep rabbit hole to go down....but can be fun at times! Thanks
Personally I have a stopping point. I just want Takara to make an official Masterpiece Jazz and someone to make a good Blitzwing
Wife says no?
I had a pretty huge MP/3P collection but sold it off last fall - here's my 3 reasons:
Thanks
I feel you on point 2. However, it seems most people love it though.
Plus its one new mold sprinkled in a bunch or re issues [like these + lines] or re dos of Optimus and Bumblbee.
Yes the lack of diecast does make these higher priced figures lack the quality feel. Thanks
@@IrishKyokushin Yes the Plus line did surprise me. The redos and reissues kill me! Thanks
I think the problem with mp figures right now is it has become just like the "toilet paper" situation during all this
Agreed man! I see alot of ppl posting here saying their not but just wait until they miss a PO and start dealing with Scalpers. I'm officially thru after FT Menasor. Been @ this hobby for almost 8 years now and it's really ridiculous how shit is nowdays. Seriously takes the fun out of the hobby.
honestly some of the "masterpiece" figures i see aren't "masterpiece" theyre the masterpiece size scale, but not the masterpiece quality
That is true! I have a few that are not what I expect from MP for sure! Thanks
2) Overabundance of scalpers now target releases thus taking the fun out of even trying to collect
3) Quality Control issues in materials used for figures
4) Breakage issues, Whether from poor quality materials or SUPER over complicated transformations does not lend to anyone wanting to spend $200+ dollars on a figure. Out of 3 Aerialbots by Fanstoys. 2 have had reported breakage issues. That's NOT a good ratio. Makes one wonder just how easily Superion could break
5) Over complicated transformations - A slightly complex transformation can be fun but it does not lend itself to casually flipping a character from alt mode to robot mode. Also, as stated above when that complexity lends itself to breakage of a figure you run the risk of pissing off your client base. Fanstoys has it's fanbois but they are not exempt from having serious issues with breakage, especially recently. Maverick, Sheridan, Iceman, etc.
6) Overabundance of the same character - As you stated in the video "How many Damn Optimus Primes do we need?"
7) Waiting for the perfect representation of a character.
They are becoming more like mini MP's making them just as desirable as the actual MP's, without the need for an entire basement to display them all.
this is not a reason to not collect just an observation
Under represented figures - Headmasters, Targetmasters, Power Masters, Monsterbots, Triggerbots, Pretenders, etc have a niche that is not being realized.
I've been waiting 4 years to complete my DJD set.
I'D like sharkticon scorponok mindwipe masterpiece ko especially scorponok with LED eye's glowing through His Visor.
Good point we may have been spoiled by the value of figures over the years. Thanks
Any of your Macross stuff for sale? Haha (seriously tho...)
Yes they are crazy but I believe Fanstoys will reissue dinos eventually because that is their origin of MP and built their rep with those. Thanks
Blessings!
Good point! We are blessed if collecting problems are our biggest problems! Thanks
Yup, just make badass detailed and super articulated bot modes with all the traditional accessories they usually have.
What hoist was that
My intention is to quit after Gravestone's trailer.
Also, I preordered Berserk but probably won't get to see Thomas anytime soon. It sucks only being able to get one and not the other.
I bet there will be some available at release but Hunk is nowhere to be found right now. Thanks
@@aquamosquito3066 Not sure where we will actually see them but Fanstoys seems to let on they are both higher on their priority list. Thanks
imho a large masterpiece collection doesn't make a lot of sense. you can't appreciate it. you give special attention to centerpiece figures, and the rest just sort of blend together
I just wish someone would make a good Slipstream
Both official and 3rd party is starting to price me out!
I am still kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on the Fans Toys Dracula. SMH 🤦🏻♂️
When they were like $60-$80 I was cool with it. But now they’ve increased in price by like 300% with marginal increases in quality. No thanx.
Horrible!
LOL that was a bit of a jab at Star Wars which has been disappointing this year. Retirement seems when you would enjoy the hobby the most. Thanks
@@tydiriumhanger1320 yeah but in retirement I wont have the income I have now. That's what I mean. Enjoy what I got and just stop buying tho
My divorce with Star Wars has saved me at least $20k post di$ney
Cool subject again !
What about 3P legends?
They were dropping a S-Ton of cash to get them all in one scoop.
it sucks collecting....Im thinking about retiring myself ....getting really expensive
I’m in it as long as Fans Toys and X Transbots keep putting out new figures.
