Nice review! I obtained a G1 Jetfire secondhand as a kid. Not long after getting him, in my infinite childhood wisdom, I decided to reenact the scene in which he was entombed in ice. After freezing him overnight in a metal punch bowl of water, my friend and I had about five minutes worth of fun with our iced Jetfire before getting bored. So, we decided to “liberate “him from his icy tomb by dropping the hemisphere of ice on the ground. He snapped in half with the ice! RIP jet fire.

Mine was a make-do as well. My dad promised me a Voltron toy for making good grades. He didn't know that Voltron was all five lions, which meant about $100-$125 plus tax in 1985. That is a lot for a child's toy today. In 1985 it was outta sight. My dad would have bought it for me because he always kept his word, but he was "concerned" about the cost. I saw the look on his face and let him off the hook. I got a Jetfire and a Soundwave with Buzzsaw. I would've gotten Optimus Prime but they didn't have him. I got him later.
I have a G1 Jetfire and I glad 1 got him before 2020. Every time I look at him ,he reminds me of the original one I got for Christmas. Although I have some missing pieces but it does my heart good to have a piece of my past and in great condition.
I had received my new G1 Jetfire as a Christmas present when I was a child in the 80's. The very next year, I gave him, along with some other Transformers and G.I. Joes to my cousins for Christmas because my aunt and uncle were going through some tough times. Best decision I ever made. So glad I got the oppurtunity to pick up a near mint G1 Jetfire with everything including an unused sticker sheet. Brought back some good memories.
God watching this makes me miss my transformers. Whenever I bought them I always bought 2. One to play with and one to come in the box because I saw the original G.I. Jetfire was my favorite TF toy as a kid in the 80s. Took it so many places. In 1999, I was in Japan for a little over a month and saw different macross variants and had no idea they existed. A few months back, a company made a "god of flame" valk in this deco and the box looked nearly identical to the G1 box. The jet is a little smaller (1/60 scale vs the 1/55 of the G1 toy), but at around $125 for the added articulation and optional translucent parts made it a better than decent deal.
I recently got a g1 Jetfire on eBay for a good price and the figure itself is mint! Getting the armor little by little, got Toyhax stickers on him and he looks SWEET! Nice review bro
I remember Christmas morning at my grandparents house. My cousin got Jetfire and I got a Cobra BUGG. The Cobra BUGG was an awesome vehicle and I played with it a ton, but I would be lying if I said I still wasn't jealous of my cousin and wish I had received Jetfire instead. I was way more of a Transformers fan than he was. I still want a G1 to this day, but it probably won't happen. Last time I looked for a knock off, I really couldn't find one. Womp, womp!
I am thankful my parents kept mine protected, complete, and bright white. Thanks Mom and Dad. He will be proudly displayed next to my new Jetfire.

I have mine from my birthday in the early 1980’s. Almost 50 and I’ll need to make sure I keep clean. Didn’t play with it much. Still factory new tight.
In the late 80's my friends and I decided we were no longer "little kids" because we all had big kid toys now (pellet guns). We decided to give all our old "little kid" toys a hellish sendoff. Brought all our He-Man toys, GI Joes, etc. out to our friend's backyard and used them for target practice until they were unrecognizable. One of my friends brought his early G1 Jetfire to the party. My heart faltered - I couldn't do that to such an awesome toy, he was special even back then. I ended up paying him $10 for Jetfire, and I still have it in my collection today. From reading other comments, it looks like a lot of Jetfires didn't escape horrible fates lol.
This design and its legal issues featured in the FASA boardgame Battletech too. The 'Gerwalk' version was also used as an LAM (Land Air Mech). Beautiful mecha design. Still looks great.
You are correct, it was Roy Fokker it was fashioned off of. The biggest variation form the other Valkyries was the number of guns on the head. Hikaru Ichijo had only one on the center of the head like a unicorn. Hikaru would eventually take over Roys mecha
I applaud your bravery in transforming him! I am fortunate enough to have three; 2 mint and 1 junker. 1 of the mints is the first release, with the painted UN Spacy logo on the wing, like yours.
As a kid, I was snooping for Christmas presents and found the G1 jetfire! Got so excited, called mom to thank her. Got so mad and said, "anymore snooping, it all goes back!". I followed her instructions.
I have several versions of Jetfire. They most noticeably vary in different added panel lines, and canopy tint shades. The MATSUSHIRU version has the least amount of panel lines and a clear canopy... However, discovering every slight difference in each version is a rabbit-hole. But any version of a G1 Jetfire is a 'must have' for a serious collector.
Thank you for the review. I have the VF-1S toy that is NOT opened because I bought it somewhere around 2006 & 2007. That was the only toy left in the shop in Hong Kong's Mong Kok and yes, I brought it back with me to Australia where I reside. Now that you have shown me what the VF-1S looks like, I don't have to open it. My curiousity has always been there but now I know. I knew a friend who had the same Jetfire toy so I had seen it once too and I hope that he kept it.
Had a couple, the 1st one I broke the wing as a kid. The 2nd one I bought in Orlando late 90s with the box for around 100 bucks. Most likely in the trash when I lost my apartment 15 years back.
I bought a Jetfire Generation 1 for my younger Brother in 1985. It cost a huge $70:00AUD which was a fortune for me as I’d only just started working. I was 18. He still has it in box and it’s cherished to this day. I remember calling him from work and reading out his Statistics and asked him to guess who he was!
Had 3 of these as a kid specifically because they were veratechs. I remember trying to paint one like skull leader. Didn't go well. Lol. Man I wish I knew better back then and kept them.
I had one of these as a kid, similar to the white version, not the red one, and I remember that the antennas broke very easily, and I was heartbroken. 😆
I have two. This was my absolute favorite transformer when I was a kid, and because I also loved the cartoon Robotech, it allowed me to play both at once.
I got one for Xmas in '85 or '86. I thought I was the luckiest kid on the planet. Especially since Robotech was on and this guy could change into the 3 different transformations.
I busted out laughing about the landing gear. I forgot all about that. One of my favorites till the damn shoulder broke. My cousin still has one still in the box. He'll never let it go.
I never had the Jet Fire, but I do have several 1980's Macross Valkyries. And for some reason, people posing the fighters with the Fast Packs don't fold the legs to make room for the leg armor. Makes it look like it's stooping forward. So yah, with the armor on, the legs are not supposed to be straight in fighter mode.
This was my Holy Grail figure as a kid but I never got one. These were way nicer figures than any of the other ones of that era, way more detailed and well built not to mention just plain cool as hell
Have one since day I got it as a Christmas present. Unfortunately my armour set was thrown out when my dad did a massive clean out of the house. Poor old jetfire has seen some better days but it was my favourite toy as a kid.
My brother had the G1 Jetfire, it had the stripes on the wings. Sadly, he sold it along with a host of Transformer & GI Joe toys to help pay for a semester of college back in the 90's. I seem to also recall there was a blue transformer version out about the same time as the G1 Jetfire (based on Max, I suppose), and I think he was designated Skyfire. Personally, I have a 2006 Jetfire that I'd describe as a hybrid of the cartoon and the VF-1 version. I think it's probably my favorite rendition of him.
I still have mine from the 80's. Missing the tail fins assembly though. Having it in-hand was instumental in making a transforming model of it in a game called StarMade. I have a vid of it on my channel.
I still have this guy. Its missing most of the armor pieces and stickers but its holding up. There is still a hole in the shoulder where my grandpa drilled in the plastic so he could repair the arm that I broke. Its the OG Valkyrie!
My G1 Jetfire is my second one from that era; a friend in school gave me his as collateral on a loan he.. never repaid. My original was lost to time. Mine is "displayed" in my home, but has horribly yellowed over time. I haven't touched it in 13 years. I'd be so scared to try to transform him at this point!
I had an early G1 brand new for my birthday in 4th grade - my parents had little to spend, but it was the one thing they got me because I wanted it so badly. I didn't have the thing but 1 month, and my dog got hold of and destroyed it; I loved that toy and have lamented its loss ever since.
I still have my original Jetfire in a box, that I got for a Christmas present way back in the 80s. I wonder how many of us guys watching this are in our 40s 😊
I loved Robotech and G1 Jetfire back in 1985, but I actually had to wait a while before I got my own. Drooled over it as friends got it throughout the year. Drew lots of pictures of it. Fantasized. Talked incessantly about it to my dad, who was an airplane nerd and approved of my fascination with a jet. Finally received it as a total surprise and fulfillment of my wishes for Christmas of '85. I loved transforming this toy. Removed the armor pieces a few different times over the 80s and 90s. Definitely the favorite toy of my childhood. In the early 2000-aughts, I learned that it had somehow survived the great toy purge of the late 90s from my parents house, and I eagerly transformed and dearmored it a few more times for old times' sake. But I noticed stress marks in the armor clips, and I resolved to leave it armored from then on. And the stickers were faded and the plastic had yellowed from indirect exposure to sunlight, so I decided to leave it in a closet. My mother asked if she could keep it at the house as a memento of my childhood, and I agreed. My father just passed away this past Sunday, so I'm back at the family home for my mom. As I've been dealing with all that, I saw that she still has my old Jetfire displayed on a shelf in the same closet, after all these decades. Grieving over my dad, I can't possibly take the chance of transforming the toy and snapping any of the plastic. It would break my heart all over again to lose this family heirloom, too. But you had better believe I reminisced while swooshing Jetfire around in jet mode! I felt 11 years old again for a minute, and like my dad was still here, smiling, watching me play.
I didn't realize until almost too late that the Cy-Kill and Leader--1 Gobot models were Mospeada VR-041T and AFC01Z models. I was lucky to snag one of each on clearance from a KB Toys in the late eighties. Genesis Climber Mospeade is my favorite out of the Robotech mash-up. I wish that I would have picked up more of the Robotech models that were rebrands of Fangs in the Sun Dougram models.
I was able to get a complete Jetfire at a retro toy convention about a decade ago - his leg and gun clips intact! - and he wasn't yellowed at all. Pretty amazing condition but had no box of course.
You know it just occurred to me watching you transform this Autobot that this is a good puzzle-solving game for kids every time they do it. To have to figure out how to change modes of a Transformer was actually a brain game for us! Have others ruminated on this before?
Yes! I still try and transform new figures without the instructions. Sixshot actually came with a sealed instruction sheet in the 80s and asked if you could figure out all six modes before looking at the instructions.
Actually, Harmony Gold was told a few years ago in court that their "rights" due to Macross/Robotech are no longer existent because they haven't done jack shit with it since the 1980s. Meaning Hasbro would be in the clear to do a re-issue of this specific version of Jetfire.
From what I understand, they settled out of court. Then, I raised an issue again when Hasbro tried to resell the Gijoe Jet a second time. I want a Jeffire reissue badly!
HG tried to sue over the thrilling 30 Jetfire also. The courts threw it out and said they couldnt sue for it anymore. It wasnt because they havent done anything. It was because they would sue anything that had any color pattern for it. Hasbro would have to go through Banda to release it again. but HG still owns the rights to the VF-1 in the US. Big West/Studio Nue (who owns Macross) and HG reached agreement finally a couple of years ago. HG retains all rights to character and vehicle designs for SDF Macross (Robotech) in US and Europe, but Big West is able to sell and distribute any Macross merch and toys that are from other Macross series worldwide. Bandia still makes VF-1 figures, but they are only sold in asia and you need to go through specialty toys collector stores to get them. It still is a mess ,but at least we can actually get worldwide releases on other Macross stuff now outside of Japan. Sorry for the wall of text. I collect a lot of Macross stuff besides Transformers.
I was able to get one with almost no yellowing and complete with the armor and rifle clip for $100 at a toy show. Could not believe the price! An all time classic!
Watching you transform Jetfire was freaking me out a bit. These toys are criminally fragile. It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't a finite number to exist. I have one with no accessories, and I treasure him. I really wish the fragile plastic shoulder joints were all metal.
I got one of these as a kid because I loved Robotech. I got some skull and bones sticker from some pirate sticker pack and replaced all the autobot stickers.
I still have mine as a kid back in 1986. I must have loved it as I played with all my transformers but Jetfire still has all it's accessories. And by no means is as yellow as the one you have pictured. Hell, I got mine from King's Dominion's gift shop of all places while they held their Cub Scout / Boy Scout Jamboree.
Yeah, it was apparent to kids in the 80s that Jetfire was the same design as a Macross fighter from Robotech. I'm still surprised Hasbro went ahead with Jetfire's production.
The legs are mistransformed in fighter mode with fast packs. The legs should go down one click, then bend the knee back into contact with the inner side of the wings.swivel. Thanks for the video!
My jet fire came with missiles, and I’ve seen other Collectors with original missiles from a US release. This point has been argued almost as much as the existence of an early first run blue blue streak in the US
Im 52 and got him for Christmas from santa back in the 80's. He still at my parents house in the basement with all my other transformers. Yes the plastic red armor clips did break back then, had to write to hasbro i believe and got new ones. Also used to cut out the front picture from the boxes along with the back stats
Back in 88 when I was in 6th grade living in LA Chinatown...I would constantly walk by a shop that had this displayed in box ..wanted it so bad because Robotech was on TV...even then it was about $100. Which was way beyond my budget as a kid
I bought a NIB one 10 years ago on eBay because I always wanted one (I was 9 in 85). I opened the box to transform the most awesome jet of all time (actually tied with Starscream), as one would do, but the joints were stiff, so after trying to release one of its legs, it let off quite abruptly. chipping a nick of paint on said leg. Was it worth it? Totally; I felt like an 80's child again.
Yours is still tight if it clicks as the legs comes around . When the stiffness wore it would hang down in jet mode . I had the original one that came out in 84 for my bd . I lost mine in a house fire . Along with like 20 more .
I wonder how much this figure cost now. I have an original one from the eighties with the box, all parts, none broken. Everything works. A little yellow in some parts but not hard. Subtle. I'm thinking in selling it since I bought the ones I do like. 🤷♂️
thanks for the info. I found out that mine is a bandia edition. no stripe on the nose cone and no macross logo on the wings. But on the other hand mine is in awesome shape and fully complete with all armour pieces and everything with no scratches on the paint and that's is awesome. i have the box and styrofoam insert gun clip instructions and the best part all the original stickers still unapplied and on the sticker sheet. small bit of yellowing behind the canopy where the colour stripes are. The box is probably a 7 and the toy is is probably an 8 or even a 9. I am very happy with it. I also just bought the FG-01 not jetfire jetfire transformers/ robotech remake. wow now that is a quality toy I tell you. it's a Valkyrie/ Veritech/ Transformer/incredibly well done updated version of all of them put together. If you are a fan of G1 Jetfire, Macross or Robotech the FG-01 is a MUST HAVE! I bought mine on Ebay. It was expensive but worth it.
Always been my favorite G1 toy! *BEGGED* my parents for him, actually got him for my 10th birthday! ....ten minutes later I broke his shoulder trying to transform him the first time 😭 I wanted to exchange him for another, but my step Dad refused. Said it was obviously junk for breaking. Im still pissed! Haha! Picked up a pretty decent one off eBay years ago. I refurbished with new decals, a bit of fresh paint, and replaced some worn armor. Also the only yellowing was on his chest, I basically gave him a vinyl wrap using white vinyl electrical tape and he looks nice and white again!
The rights holders have loosened their iron grip on the robotech licence. Hopefully they do allow hasbro to release it again. It’s easy money for both companies. I’d buy two.
Jetfire was Rick Hunters red trim VF-1J Command veritech with Combat armor but Roy Fokkers VF-1S command head/antenna array. The J had a head with a more cyclopean eye look to it and only two antenna. Rick took over the S model after Roy Fokkers death as he became wing commander.
I have an original one from 1985 but he fell apart and I do believe that I lost most of the pieces. I did see a leg about 3 years ago when I was going thru an old box.
I have one sitting on my shelf in Guardian mode (I was a robotech fan). I was about to say that the hands do retract into the forearms in Jet mode, but when I tried doing that on mine, they were stuck in the sticking out position. Mine's in pretty similar condition to yours so I didn't want to force the hands, so I just left them out. I have all the parts except for the little black gun clip. It's the only Transformer I still have, because it's just that awesome.
I have one, in the box, with the foam, stickers unused. It's been in the closet for about 37-38 years, so it should have very little fading.
Oo, I would love one of those. I loved Robotech and Transformers when I was a kid.

You realize you have a rare one with the "UN Spacy" symbol? I read that somewhere. Keep that one.
I had this jetfire in 6th grade..man I loved that toy...
Man.. I loved my jet fire! I remember going to Toy’s R’ Us to purchase it for my birthday! It was the coolest!
You are a brave man! I bought two so I can just display… I know you did it for the video I hope people appreciate it!
I have one I got it because I could tell it was a Robotech jet, I was a huge Robotech fan, still have it displayed in my man cave.
The extra jets that Jetfire has were also part of the Macross Valkyire in Do you Remember Love.
Still have mine. Best Xmas gift thst year next to my original Megatron
My brother had the original Jetfire, brand new, when we were just boys. I got Targetmaster Hot Rod. This was a great toy.
Great review! The Jetfire toy origins and its history are fascinating. 🚀🤖
I got my g1 Jetfire/skyfire. only thing wrong with mine. Was like you said it broke in the shoulder joint. I kept my box, & stryphome too
I had one of those; along with, my brother and cousin. Too bad we played with it until it fell apart.
Excellent video, very detailed, thank you.
Have one since day I got it as a Christmas present. Unfortunately my armour set was thrown out when my dad did a massive clean out of the house. Poor old jetfire has seen some better days but it was my favourite toy as a kid.
I had this one. It was my favorite Transformer.
I also have the Classics version. Its awesome and will stay in my collection.
I still have mine from the 80's. Missing the tail fins assembly though. Having it in-hand was instumental in making a transforming model of it in a game called StarMade. I have a vid of it on my channel.
I still have mine. Was so happy to get it for Christmas. It guards my 3d printer.
Time to look for a new one? ;)
I still have my original Jetfire in a box, that I got for a Christmas present way back in the 80s. I wonder how many of us guys watching this are in our 40s 😊
Me.
Thats a Lovely story! Thank you for sharing. My Condolences about your dad.
I used to keep my Jetfire half transformed to resemble Robotech fighters.
I have one! Gotta go dig it out of the storage tote!
I see you have a Matsushiro version! COOOLLL!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks! I was lucky to find this in a Estate sale!
I had it as a kid and it was the coolest
My favorite toy as a kid.
The Stonewell-Bellcom VF-1s Valkyrie. I miss that toy, all diecast.
That's a great price!
@@GhostPrimeReviews Once he said that, I made sure to pay before he could change his mind!
@@atomD21That's a steal!
I remember seeing in the store and asking for it for Christmas, and I got it! It was an awesome toy, too bad the arms fell off.
Watching you transform Jetfire was freaking me out a bit. These toys are criminally fragile. It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't a finite number to exist.
I have one with no accessories, and I treasure him.
I really wish the fragile plastic shoulder joints were all metal.
I have one sitting in a box not mint or anything missing a part or two but he was always my favorite Transformer.
Had this when i was a kid in the 80s. I apparently threw out all the add on pieces. unsure why. This was my favorite transformer i owned.
Love kings Dominion!!! That must've been one hell of a memorable day
That was my favorite transformer growing up. Even more so over Optimus and Megatron
Wow, your collection is awesome ❤
Thanks!
Yeah, it was apparent to kids in the 80s that Jetfire was the same design as a Macross fighter from Robotech. I'm still surprised Hasbro went ahead with Jetfire's production.
I remember the landing gear always whacking me in the knuckle when I was a kid lol
All the time! Now its my fingernails!
Me too!
Oh look, it’s an Unseen Phoenix Hawk from Battletech! And screw Harmony Gold for suing them.
The legs are mistransformed in fighter mode with fast packs. The legs should go down one click, then bend the knee back into contact with the inner side of the wings.swivel. Thanks for the video!
Not with the G1 Jetfire figure. I just tried it on mine.
That is correct on my Bandai DX Chogokin VF-1S, however.
@Chon-c Loosing your childhood in one shot. I feel for you, bud.
@@Marinoninewb. Ty man.
I appreciate that.
Love the Gen1 Jetfire. Better than Skyfire, though he's still cool!
I love mine..had to trade all my X men for this guy at a toy consignment shop.
I wonder how much this figure cost now. I have an original one from the eighties with the box, all parts, none broken. Everything works. A little yellow in some parts but not hard. Subtle. I'm thinking in selling it since I bought the ones I do like. 🤷♂️
They go for quite a lot, especially with the box. The box by itself can be in the 1-200s. It's very common
This got hit the same way the Warhammer and Marauder got hot in Battletech Macross/Robotech don't play.
thanks for the info.
I have the FG-01 as well. The Plastic on it isnt great, but its beautiful
Still have my first gen Jetfire. Let my son play with it just a bit🤣
Always been my favorite G1 toy! *BEGGED* my parents for him, actually got him for my 10th birthday! ....ten minutes later I broke his shoulder trying to transform him the first time 😭
I wanted to exchange him for another, but my step Dad refused.
I had this when I was young..to bad I don't have it anymore
Yeah its a very cool one!
I still have my original in the box I got back in the 80's. Too much sentimental value. But if financial issues hit, it will help a bit.
I have an original one from 1985 but he fell apart and I do believe that I lost most of the pieces. I did see a leg about 3 years ago when I was going thru an old box.
Man, I always let the gerwalk shoulders rest at an angle on those intake side laser bulbs
