What tools or what auto parts to get? It all boils down to where you live and your access to tools and parts. If there is a Harbor Freight, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, Auto Zone, O'Reilly's or any other store then buying possibly inexpensive tools and parts is not much of an issue. If you live several miles away like 30 miles it's a hassle. I lived 30 miles from the nearest Autozone or Checkers. I got tired of buying reconditioned starters. Even though they were under warranty for quick exchange but when the starter would go out I would be several miles away. The starter would last about a year. So I finally got smart and went to the dealer and bought a brand new OEM starter with 4 times the price of a rebuild. Kept the core and bought a rebuild as a spare. Same with tools. You may have to pay more for tools but if you are out in the boonies you just can't afford to be down. Yes we have cell phones but still there are areas that are dead. You will have to track out and the cost for having cheap tools as to quality will eventually cost you. Sure have cheap stuff at the house. I do. But I spend extra for tools in my car, truck or when I'm 4 wheeling.

The harbor freight wobble ext that you can push down and lock straight stopped being sold because Koken tools has a patent on that design and either they didn't want to pay the fees for it or got caught selling it without paying to sell it. Now only the higher end tool companies sell what they call wobble plus or what Koken calls it wobble fixed extensions. If you want the wobble extensions get them from Koken they are by far the best, and yes better than snap on who pays Koken to sell there version. And for a 3rd of the price.

I like when the retainer ball of extention lines up with a flat side of the square drive it's being attached to, other-words from the female end look down the extension and is the retainer ball lining up at a point or a flat part of the square.

Hello sir nice post. The first thing I bought from snap-on was a 1/2 drive impact extension set, I liked the hog ring. I had a couple of 3/8 extension that wouldn't lock on a locking ratchet so I drilled a 1/8 hole in the right spot now they work just fine

That is a good idea about drilling the hole often times that is the best method even if the ratchet is not locking because that allows the ball to get a nice grip.

You leave out the A types and B types...As A types have a ball. B types have through hole on both the socket and extension. So you can use either an O-Ring Pin, C Clip to lock the socket to the extensions...This helps slow down wear. Keeps the socket attached. So it does not come flying off....

Tell me about it, I've got a ww2 era PLOMB 9/32dr WF extension that should be a 6" but is actually just over 5-1/2".

Yes I thought it was strange all the interpretations of extension links but surprisingly they have come in handy sometimes you need just a certain length

Thanks for the video. I think the profile of those "machined down" extensions is actually cold formed as in this video: ruclips.net/video/MBM132VvIDY/видео.html which like other forging processes provides great material flow. Also the drive square is always the weakest point, so having a slightly thinner shaft there doesn't reduce strength.
