Good to know! Bottom line THANKS FOR CLEARING THAT UP. 💚I luv Crazy Plant Guy💚
So I have a plant I cant find a seller for but I have found someone who is just a random guy who would be willing to send me some of these plants from India. How should I go about it? Should I have him send it to some kind of exporter who is capable of shipping them? Or is there a way he can send it directly to me? It has to be easy on his part so no paperwork/permits/weird stuff for him. Just simply putting it in a box and sending it. All the cost/paperwork has to be only on my end.
Very informative video! I am coming to Toronto the end of Aug. How can I purchase plants from you at your store...or is it an online store? Thanks and have a great day!
An acclimation video would be great. Even if I'm not importing them from another country, I often do have plants shipped from domestic sources, oftentimes a greenhouse with much different conditions than I have in my house.
There’s definitely a lot of work in important and not desirable to many. I wish it would be easier and plants were perfect so I can enjoy the plants right away 😅
Does anyone know if you are required to have the green and yellow labels on the outside of the box for export. I have just read this recently, that it is suppose to get shipped to an inspection center and those must be on the box? Can anyone provide some information on that, please. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this import info. I think a more in-depth acclimation video would be great. If you felt comfortable sharing names of vendors you’ve had good luck with also, it would be greatly appreciated 😊
Thanks, unfortunately the vendors I’ve worked with so far are hits and miss, sometimes they’ll be good while other times it will be a bad shipment. I wouldn’t feel comfortable if someone got plants from them and it ended in a bad experience. 😬
I had a super stressful and expensive import experience earlier this year. I ordered a number of Anthurium which landed in the UK on the night before Good Friday which is a public holiday here and then if 3 days wasn't wasn't bad enough there was the Easter Monday public holiday too! So it got stuck there for 4 days then was held up for further inspection even though it had a phytosanitary. Eventually I had to pay for an additional inspection and register as an official importer that cost me as much as the entire plant order 😭. I later found out from one of our government agencies that these additional fees actually have nothing to do with the type of plants I bought but if they were sent via standard post I only need a phytosanitary but if they were sent via courier then it gets treated as an import even though, they admitted to me, it's not actually stated anywhere on government guidelines and regulations 😡 At least the Anthurium all survived and are thriving 🙄
Yikes, omg, that sounds so stressful. 😬 I’d definitely be frustrated as well if the process and requirements were clear or they made a mistake. Also a good reminded to make sure you time the delivery to not land during the holidays.
Hey Christian! What a coincidence! I also got my Scindapsus Pictus Silver Lady few days back, and now waiting to see how long it takes to acclimatize and bring up new leaf... This makes a total of three Scindapsus in my little collection of plants... Love these, so beautiful! Looking for Aygyreus next... Any particular care tips for Scindapsus?
Question about the permit - when you indicate the type of plant you are importing I.e. philodendron would they destroy your plants if you also ordered a different type within the same order like syngonium?
Usually when you apply and send a list of plants your importing they’ll add ‘additional plants’ that are approved and found on the list of accepted plants.
Hey! I've noticed that there are so many purges going on in my entire state... It makes me feela bit more confident that the plant will thrive once it's been rehabilitating in someone else's care.
For sure. Definitely a lot easier to get a plant that’s been rehabilitated and acclimated, especially if you want to enjoy the plants beauty right away.
I had my first and last experience importing hoyas from overseas this past April. (A youtuber had done an unboxing and although she had not recommended the company due to snafus she experienced the first time she ordered from them , it looked like the company did better the second time around. The cuttings also looked pretty good.)Factoring in the time and aggravation navigating UPS, Customs and unhelpful exporter, it was just not worth it. All 4 had root rot and only two could be salavaged. So, I actually paid more for the plants in the end than if I had just purchased them from various online vendors in the U.S. Lesson learned.
Yeah there’s so many factors that can really make importing not worth it, when you think about the time and cost it takes you’re almost always better off buying it locally where they’ve taken the time and risk to get that plant ready for you.
@@CrazyPlantGuy I wish your tutorial would have been available back then! I had checked with the exporter and DMd another RUclipsr who regularly imports plants and had been reassured that as a plant hobbyist I did not need an import license. I just got an import from Indonesia from a shop called Aroid Market. It was in the mail for 6 days and arrived COMPLETELY DEAD AND FULLY ROTTEN. All mush. These wasn’t even a lot of moisture in the package, none actually. It’s insane how much damage can occur in a handful of days. Something MUST be happening in customs. My guess, most packages get through customs fine but a few unlucky packages get “special treatment.” Something must be done that just annihilates the plant, some kind of heat treatment maybe?
Wow, that’s crazy. I’ve never had that kind of damage for 6 days. Experienced sellers can package plants well that will be good for up to 7 days, so either they didn’t pack it properly or customs got involved for them to be in that condition after al 6 days. 🤔
Blake A. E. ...Aroid Market. I actually found a RUclipsr who did an unboxing from Root Greenhaus and her plants were identical to mine. All rot all mush. I wonder if these websites, Aroid Market, Aroid Asia, Root Greenhaus use the same supplier or are the same company, or a parent company of each other? Their websites, prices, checkout process and the way they package their plants, even the materials used, are so similar. This RUclipsr even says her plants were not in the mail long enough for this rot to happen, same with mine.
Blake A. E. ...Did you have to pay $25 before the package would be delivered? I paid $35 for a photosanitary certificate at checkout, then DHL contacted me hours before delivery wanting $25 for a photosanitary certificate or else the package would be returned. Yeah the price has gone up and the cost of shipping is crazy. I guess you can get a bit of a price break if you order a lot of plants as it makes the shipping worth it. But with everything that can go wrong and the work behind it, definitely not worth it for a lot of people.
