I didn’t want to accept this news was true, but when Dr. Sutterer posts you know it’s real 😔😔😔
😢
I am not an english native i just look this video bcs I have shoulders injuries, so I have a question, wont be able to play basket again this man?
@piedramultiaristas8573 Of course he can, but he's out for the rest of the year/season.
Edit: Dr Brian said this type of surgery typically lasts 6 months.
Good I hope his entire recovery in my case i am not the same, i cannot lift heavy wheit as before i want to see a doctor o try something to recover
gt @@balugboog
He won't be able to wave his gun around any longer
You really are on it. Love your professionalism and show me style of teaching. That from a retired educator (30 years) and a daughter in her third year of surgical residency- she loves your channel too as she is a sports nut like her dad. We're looking forward to you covering cycling injuries soon:).
Dr. Brian needs to have his own segment on the NFL Today.
he has his own youtube channel. thats much better.
Dr. Sutterer: “ Welcome back, everybody. I’m doctor Brian Sutterer.”
Me: Yep doc. I just watched Halliburton video about 20 minutes ago. 😂
Same lmao
The way he throws his force into drives to the rim and then falls to the floor it seems very likely he has prior shoulder damages for years now.
This. He was probably just shrugging it off (oh ho ho) before but he's not a teenager anymore.
yea this makes sense. He's fallen to the floor hundreds of times at this point in his career typically bracing some impact with his arms so wouldn't be surprising at all if he suffered one or more minor shoulder subluxations in the past but that damage went unnoticed then this happens
It's from waving his gun around like a cowboy
@@troll-fx2zcso funny, can’t stop laughing 😐
@@troll-fx2zc fine to joke about the suspension, but this is just fucked up. Dude has a potentially career altering injury, not the time to shit on him for external stuff.
Doc had his finger on the trigger with this upload
That's his secret. He's causing the injuries 🤔
Or maybe he's time traveling. He cuts it close. Some day he's going to slip up and release his video before the injury happens.
This happened to Pascal Siakam in the 20/21 season when the Raptors were stuck in Tampa btw. Whole recovery process was about 5 months but he was able to return to form. I'm not worried long term about such an injury unless it repeats.
it was on Pascal's non shooting shoulder. This type of surgery is tough to fully recover on and can take well over a year to get there even if he does return before then. Not to mention , this isn't baseball or a contact sport. If he has some kind of condition that contributed, then it could make recurrent tears more likely
I wonder if this has anything with the way he dunks the ball. He always clocks back his arm when he dunks. It would suck if he would not be able to dunk the ball like that anymore. That’s what make him so exciting to watch.
Right..cocking
I think He got injured in the Lakers game a couple of days ago. The injury bug hit us hard this season.(Memphis grizzlies)😢
Pretty unlucky year. I think the Dr may be onto something with the repeat injury/subluxation hypothesis. That plus seeing how trash they were was without Steven Adams probably just made the team decide to mulligan.
Had this surgery back in 2021 and it took around 10 months to be flexible and over a year and a half to feel normal.
I also had a SLAP injury from a single time accidental play, not all injuries that need surgery have to be repeated hits/dislocations. In my case I jumped for a loose ball, a guy landed on the back part of my shoulder and another was pressing on the front part while I was reaching extended for the ball (diving ala Rodman). That did it, overextending my arm, while being pressed bothsides. Very annoying injury. There is no going around surgery, rehab alone will do little to nothing to help. Surgery is rather painful, rehab is not relatively easy going. I was only in the mind set to return to play basketball, thats what kept me going. I did return to play at a high level, but I never have felt loose or with a certain stop/movement limitation pre injury. That being said, my peak at basketball was well after the injury, and I eventually could train on every aspect, weights, intense basketball drills, etc. so I don't consider it an injury that will make someone like Morant lower his level. Hopefully there are newer techniques and rehab methods.
Thanks for the info doc once again ...
“This was his shooting arm”
Get well soon Ja. You'll bounce back 💪🏾💯

Appreciate this. Especially since this was in practice, it really helps to understand!
I had a SLAP tear...tell u what the rehab was no joke and its still not 100% almost 2-3 years later i feel and still deal with weakness and it getting tight
I’m 9 months post posterior shoulder stabilization surgery for labral tear/ instability and am also an overhead athlete (swimmer) and I will say that coming back from this surgery has been really hard like im just now feeling like im starting to approach my old form.
Curious how did you injure your it?
@emmapritchett6898 i have small tear to my posterior labrum, i had subluxation playing basketball non contact rebound. I have full range of motion but strength is like 80% but i have too much instability feeling. Do you recommend surgery?
@@abrahamkoubaytari2328 this is a discussion to have with an orthopedic specialist, which I would recommend having the surgery talk with them if you are having instability still to an extent that impedes on your life.
Any comment/perspective on the cumulative stress on the shoulder from repetitive violent dunks (practice, warmups, games, other?) JM creates a lot of force with his acceleration and elevation - more than most.
Knife to the gut for grizz fans best hope is for the grizz to get a top 5 pick and come back stronger next year
Same injury i had from throwing the Javelin. Lived 10 years with it before i got surgery.....but i felt it everyday
This is why I changed my fantasy team name to the Infirmary 😓

my man on top of his game
They probably never reported the previous instability issues cause they thought it was something they could control. Either way I hope he makes a good recovery. Dude is a great talent. Love watching those insane dunks he pulls off.
Great job on the video - would love to see you do a video on Connor Bedard’s jaw injury/surgery! Hockey players have played with broken jaws before, so I’m curious if there’s anything exceptional about his injury that explains why he’s expected to be out of the lineup for 6-8 weeks, or if the Blackhawks are just being extra precautious with their young superstar
I tore my labrum from the 10 to 2 o'clock position from baseball pitching. I literally heard it tear after I let go of a pitch. My experience is like all of the aforementioned...constant dull ache/pain every day, Physical Therapy didn't help, instability remained ect...only surgery can fix it. It's literally been 20 years since my sugery and I play baseball every summer and still pitch and the surgery (they used 2 anchors) has held up just fine. It'll take nearly a year before he can come back but he'll be 100% afterwards and probably come back better than ever.
Ja need to ask Drose on how to use the floater cause he ain't be dunking for 5 years or forever.
Man you explained this so well. I’ve been having a lot of pain in that exact same area of my shoulder (so bad I can’t even sleep on my right side with out feeling discomfort or pain in that area)
A labrum tear, feels like a pain, sting on the shoulder area, but when you try to touch/press it to locate it, you can't... it's like its inside the shoulder. Also sometimes rotator is the culprit of shoulder pain. I had a labrum tear, and I didn't have like constant pain. Only when doing certain movements or overworking the area started the discomfort.
I had rotator and labrum (low grade) tears. That pain was fricken INTENSE!!! Lying still, in bed it could reach a 10.
prayers
Just returned from suspension right before Christmas now he’s out for the season. Wow!
Brian: “pull the trigger”
Nice choice of words😂
Damn why are you always so fast to even illustrate injuries and explain it then upload it right away, this guy is unreal!
Ja JUST came back too, grizz's might as well chalk this season up as far as playoffs/play in.💯
They were not gonna make it out the west anyways even with Ja. It was better for the grizz to just accept that and let ja get right
Thanks Brian,,you on your sports watch lol
From personal experience, I tore my labrum after falling on my shoulder but didn't realize for a while cause there wasn't any pain, it just started clicking at a certain spot. And I don't have a very high pain tolerance
Some guns have a lot of recoil.
“Pull the trigger on” - nice one, Doc. I gotcha 😅
Get well soon Ja.
I recently injured my shoulder from sleeping on it and it felt as if a nail put in my shoulder to prevent me from lifting my arm. Honestly thought I would have to go to the hospital but after just sleeping on my back for around 3 weeks it my arm recovered. 10 Years prior when I was 16 I had rhabdomyolysis in both my arms and had to stay in the hospital for a week and the pain was horrible. I did make a full recovery however I now deal with quicker fatigue in my arms and I have never been able to push them how I use to, so I hate seeing others end up with arm injuries. I hope he won't end up with any prolonged side effects of the injury.
Another very informative video , from the "Best" doctor on sports injuries 👌.

I wonder how much taking time off for the suspension and then returning to high intensity activity played a factor
Please do a video on the hit where Matthew Stafford looked like he was knocked out cold. Late in the game against the Lions.
This is an awesome video (the news about Ja sucks though obviously). Love how Doc has become almost an investigator: "these medical clues don't add up, there's gotta be more to this story!" Lol it's awesome. It reminds me of this old show i saw a rerun of once where the protagonist was a doctor who was solving cases like a detective for some reason (i know that doesn't make sense, i must not have paid enough attention 😭). All i know is the actor was well-known old dude, Dick van Dyke i think his name was, and he was hella corny with his acting. ANYWAY Dr. Brian _is that guy!_ 🤣🤣🤣
The doc only gave me shoulder injections for my labrum tear. I also was told I have arthritis too so that may be why I didn’t get surgery.🤷🏾♂️
I had a labrum (mild) tear, did rehab. Pain free with full range of motion, thank you Jesus. I also had rotator tear-PAINFUL!!!
Just had this surgery today. Constant shoulder subluxation.
Better do it now and be ready for next season.
Dr. Brian Sutterer can you go over WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins recent injuries a torn MCL, and partially torn meniscus and it’s timetable without surgery and with surgery with WrestleMania 40 coming up at the beginning of April and his match being in jeopardy with CM Punk
I had labrum surgery 2-3 years ago and was back to work in 3 months lifting appliances.
PC's or washing machines?

Good video gg
I'm not surprised, his high-flying antics against bigger, powerful men and his crashing to the ground it was only a matter of time.
Could you do a video of Rafael Nadal doctor
Hello Dr. Sutterer Could you cover Cade Cunningham's injury please?
Please talk about Matt Stafford possibly getting a concussion against the lions and still being allowed to play . Stafford looked like he was knocked out for a few seconds

Bad day for the league man… two of the funnest players to watch are injured. It’s extra tough for the grizzlies knowing how great they are with ja
Nice
Its gonna mess with his jumping form too cause you have to swing very fast upwards especially being that he is a two foot jumper
Doc’s been busy asf the last few days. 😅
This one is really strange... I agree... I would think there must be significant damage...
Why do you always bless us thank you my friend! You are invited to the family BBQ 💯🫡
Please make a video on yesterday's Kyrie fall against Lebron! 🙌
So here’s a fun question. When I was 35, I had surgery because my entire labrum had detached from the joint. I’m a musician and college professor, (not in any way a professional athlete), and my surgeon was completely flummoxed as to why this had happened, only guessing at a strange (for which I’m well known) rheumatoid arthritis condition. Any ideas?
from what I know about RA , I’m not sure that a shoulder labrum injury could be caused by it but idk. I need to get testing done , my Mom has RA and I might have it too. I’ve got swollen joints in both thumbs, and index fingers and a few days ago my pinky was sore , all in the MCP joints ( including in my thumbs) . in advanced RA cartilage can become damaged along with “bone destruction” . i’d guess that most people would notice RA symptoms before that point and with modern treatment it would not get so far along , but this is all from what I’ve read about recently . i’m not a dr but this is my own .02 cents 😎
react to conner berdard broken jaw hit
Hey Brian, labrum tears seem incredibly complex, even moreso than other injuries. Have you seen the most recent meta-analysis on common orthopedic surgeons and their outcomes versus conservative care approach?
Hi I just did an anthroscopic bank art lesion repair with reimplissage in November. I’m curious about this study- link?
The DOI would be appreciated
@@nickribeiro5013how’s recovery going? I’m set to have this same surgery this year.
4:39 Very unusual to pull the trigger, he's right.
This is rough news. Hope he gets back soon. I will miss watching him hoop.
Could you make a video on Connor Bedard
It’s the recoil 😅
How he get injured?
I did research, Ja had 2 back injuries which I believe is a good enough case for the surgery
Since the labrum is in three different pieces, I wonder if more than one of those pieces are torn, thereby increasing instability and the need for surgery.
Crazy I found this out on a non-NBA channel.
😮
Ive dislocated my shoulder so many times i lost count...now it pop out for any reason
That sucks so much. Can't catch a break.
JAJAJAJA! NOOOO JA THIS CANT BE TRUE ❤GET BETTER
There goes the grizzlies playoff spot 🤷♂️
Maybe Memphis get a good point guard backup to draft
Memphis should sign John Wall! Kentucky fans would like to see Wall play with the Grizzilies.
i will assume grizzlies will use disabled player expectation which will be worth more at least several millions
Ugh. Labrum surgery SUCKS. 8 years later and I've never been quite the same.
is that his shooting arm?
I wonder if something is also going on with his leg? He had a very weird ankle or lower leg injury a few days before the shoulder injury.
This happened after he went to dunk on Wemby. That's what happens when u stretch over 10ft lol
They want that top 3 pick
He was wackin off
Don't worry - They good in the West
Damnnn is that his shooting arm?
A highlight maniac like Morant will not last in nba
It's kind of good news, Ja won't have to play his ass off just to get into the play-in and they can get a high draft pick
injury us never a good news . ur sick just thinking of it . u need help seriously
You can't try dropping the hammer of god twice a quarter. Look what Lebron does, he puts the ball straight up and lets his momentum carry his arm to the hoop.
goshdarnit. Injuries suck. Hope he can still play the same when he returns. Unfortunately, the way he plays, he seems high risk for injury.
Looks like someone's LOCKED and LOADED for a shoulder surgery showdown! Time to AIM for a swift recovery, TARGET those pesky pain points, and RELOAD those joints for optimal performance. Remember, the road to recovery may have a few RECOIL moments, but stay TRIGGER-HAPPY with those physical therapy exercises. (My son is a huge Ja fan and he is going to groan at my dad joke gun puns.)
Lame joke
@@LionTank Thank you! I was going for lame! Glad I succeeded.
Grow up
I think there is one other possible explanation for this... and it isn't medical. Have the Grizzlies decided this season is a lost cause? Are they hoping for the lottery? Are they hoping for even more time to separate Ja from his incident a year ago. I find it odd that if Ja's shoulder and labrum is getting worse, I would expect potentially an effect on his shooting percentage (especially from 3) and rebounding over his last couple of games. His last 4 games he is shooting above his career average from 3 from all 4 games and his rebounding numbers of 7, 8 and 5 are all above his career average from the last 3 games. He also has way higher assist numbers and I assume his passes aren't all below the waist shovel passes.
I am not saying that there isn't something going on with his shoulder, but I do agree that it is a bit odd and atypical and do wonder whether the reason to operate is truly medical.
Reported as a grade 1 strain hamstring
Sound Issue around 3:30 just a heads up, great vid as always Brian!
How is Matthew Stafford still in the game? He looked out cold for a second and looked like he was fencing a little bit. Please enlighten us Doc!
“Pull the trigger” 💀
Injured during training 😢
Was not expecting this, but watching Ja I can't entirely surprised. He plays like he's got trampolines in his shoes so when he isn't able to make it past a defended, it usually ends with a nasty spill for him. He had hand and wrist injuries last year so it wouldn't be too crazy to think it was his entire arm that was compromised.
