Melody Publications is an organization focused on reawakening the melody of truth in the hearts and minds of believers at home and abroad. Their prayer is that their work would aid churches and families as they sing “Psalms and Hymns and Spiritual Songs” in praise and in worship to our God.
I can't think of a better message for Christians to meditate on right now. Jesus said in Matthew 5, "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." May the people of God be such a shining light in the darkness of the world today!
The family at Melody Publications reached out to me a little while back, and thought that we shared many of the same goals, namely, the promotion, the preservation, and the restoration of meaningful worship in song for Christians today. They sent me a copy of their songbook, and I absolutely loved it. As many of you may know, this page is a hobby of mine, not a career. So, when I decided to enter this partnership with them (which will be a theme for the rest of the year), I did so motivated by my firm belief in the goals of their mission and the tools with which they seek to accomplish it. Seven years ago, when my daughter was seriously burned in a house fire and she spent 5 months in the hospital and we lost our home and everything in it, I finally understood this song. I could not have held on and kept the faith without those lower lights that were burning for me. Every prayer, every hug, every kind word, every gift given to help us back on our feet... God's people that shined His light on me when, in that dark time, I couldn't see the light of God.

Thank you for sharing. Sometimes I feel like all I do for the Lord is worthless, not making any difference, I mean. Let me never forget that God is in control and He blesses all our efforts, in ways we may never know.

As a Navy vet this hymn is essentially pionant. Will be played at my funeral as well as Navy hymn, Eternal Father Strong to Save.

Just make sure you find a version of “Eternal Father String to Save” that doesn’t mention the pagan catholic trinity.

I was that struggling seaman about 33 years ago. I will always hold dear to my heart the one that was my lighthouse that helped guide me in. This hymn always reminds me of that time in my life and special to me so you can imagine how much I appreciate this video.

I remember when i was 5 yrs old in the province with my grandfather he always wake me up at 4 am to worship and this song Was the song i always here from him his blind though but he memorized the song and verses i miss him while listening to this song and i love it...

Sister Summer, you should hear Tennessee Ernie Ford. Thomas Dorsey, who wrote the song, lost his family in a house fire while he was away from home singing gospel hymns on the road. ALSO, we all love "It Is Well With My Soul" and many know that Spafford wrote the song after his family's ship was lost at sea. Philip P. Bliss, who wrote the words and music to the song above, also set Spafford's glorious poem to that soaring melody. Philip B. Bliss would lose his life at age 39 chosing to burn in train wreckage in Ashtabula, OH rather than abandon his wife who was trapped in the wreckage. "No greater love hath any man but to give his life for his friends."
When my mum was in her sick bed,I prayed over and over through this song that God should send gleams across her sickness,that God should come for her rescue and save her.Unfortunately she went to be with the Lord.Rest easy mommy.

The second verse makes me tear up! Grandpa was a WWII navy vet, and I think of him when I hear this hymn. He would talk of being out on the ocean with gigantic boisterous waves and the ship tossing to and fro. I can’t even imagine what it was like, but it comes to mind with the line “loud the angry billows roar.”
Beautiful version of a song I sang thousands of time in church. PP Bliss was a great song writer of his time, a hero who died trying to save his wife when they in a fiery train wreck. Thanks for posting.

So nice - I learned this song at the piano in the 1950s and it was surely one my mother enjoyed hearing again and again. The old sons - - - so good for the heart today with the stresses that surround us.
