I've been a drummer for 45 years now, and this is truly wonderful. Not only is the technique great, but what makes this performance first rate is the ease with which you drum. It's common when taking on a piece is to overthink and therefore over-perform the piece. The key is to relax and let the music flow through you, which you obviously do. Most drummers try and do too much- try and be fancy. This rarely works. There is only 1 Neil Peart, only 1 Mitch Mitchell, only 1 Tony Williams., etc, so don't pretend to be them. Learn from them, then be yourself. Great job!!!!!
This is not an easy song to play, but you play it incredibly well. This is the hardest Rush song to play on drums according to Mike Portnoy. Great Job, Sterling.
What an AMAZING talent! I’ve been drumming and touring all my life. I can muddle my way through some of Neil’s stuff but this was mesmerizing! What a monster musician you are! Yes there are still some of you freaks out there that can pull this off with total relaxation. Unreal! Standing ovation from me!!!
I'm still heartbroken and still cry every now and then. Us Rush fans are a different breed just as they are. When they played it was never about them it was about their fans fame to them was sort of toxic so they stayed in the shadows but played in the light. They were very private with their lives which to me made them more mysterious and exotic. There will never be another band like Rush
Unbelievable. Superb. Magnificent. Congratulations, my friend. What a pleasure to see a performance so accurate and passionate: just like Neil Peart´s monumental drumming.
If Geddy Lee was to see this video he would definitely think about getting rush back together with you as the new drummer for Rush. Excellent performance. A+ for Effort
Absolute joy to watch that. I used to rewind, yes rewind, that particular ending hundreds of times. Amazing control. One of the hardest songs ever. Lol. Amazing job!
Absolutely amazing! Your mastery of these Rush songs show an incredible talent and your commitment to hard work and achieving excellence, just like Peart did. Wow...
5:18 to 5:43 is the bane of my existence. The ultimate irony is as a drummer I can play the guitar riff over that part but still have yet to figure out the timing on the kit
I’ve been working on it for the past few months (pretty lazily tho-I would practice it every so often) but I think I got it down. If you want I can transcribe and send the music.
Sterling, you really nailed the part that starts at 5:16. Deceptively difficult and one of the trickiest rhythms that I've ever had to figure out on drums. I'd put it up there with Seven Days by Sting. Great job!
Sterling, dude you are by far my favorite Neil Peart recreation on the drums. He would absolutely be proud of you accomplishment and the fact you choose him to model after I would bet. May he Rest In Peace for he is truly missed. And may you live a blessed life my friend. Keep up the extraordinary work producing these Rush videos. I’m sharing them with so many people. Cheers to you Sterling!!!!
Living on the Canadian Prairies I have quotes these lyrics for three decades... thundheads are rumbling in a distant overture... so nicely done... excellent, exciting to watch. Thank you sir.
Great job enjoyed watching.... I am guessing the first few sound checks were Quite busy compared to the final simple masterpiece.... Love that piece of music definitely touches a string..
Man this guy needs to talk to Gedfy and Alex. Yes he's not Neil and doesn't have the mind to right lyrics like Neil. But he has Neil in his heart I would go to a concert to see Geddy Alex and this guy on the Drums playing in honor of Neil. Just to hear the music live again. He will never replace the magic but he does have the heart. Just a thought and missing Neil terribly. If I'm wrong please tell me, I'm just an old broken hearted Rush fan
Sterling, if anyone out there has any connections to Alex and Geddy they need to have a listen to you, in my opinion you could be able to take over where we lost Neal
Sterling... what you played here is dynamically and technically flawless. This is NOT an easy song to play, and you just made it look simple and beautiful. You never cease to amaze me... well done, Rush would be proud. R*I*P* Neil. Check this video out... ruclips.net/video/KVVCBwDJ5rI/видео.html&ab_channel=TapeheadToo
Sometimes I wonder if these drum lines were not all written in such a way as to oblige drummers to buy 17 tomtoms, 42 cymbals and all the other parafernalia, just to please the industry that makes them.
after all that badassery, why did you not do the right hat part towards the end? Neil lets up on it open and closes. but if you were making this your own i get it, not trying to be an ass, but you are so precise with everything else.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 One of my favourite Rush songs! Great job! But your set up tho???? U have like all floor tom sized drums. Doesn’t look good. Amazing cover tho mate! 👍🏾👍🏾
Kastlemerock Talk Bro he changes out the toms; he’s got double the amount of toms here in storage; he just switched them here cause of the song/ or he tuned them different

A beautiful thing to watch! Well done, man.

You are carrying on the torch for Neil Peart ! You drum amazingly !!! Superb!

Good cover, and a great song to cover. I love how Neil highlights and adds to the sound during a song, and you demonstrated that very well, here.

Stand when you play the xylophone and drag your chimes with some conviction...
What a stupid comment
This is indeed an incredibly stupid comment
