For your window covers... I use a black plastic corrugated card-like material (same material as estate agents boards are made of). I got it from Amazon. Anyway, I cut them smaller than the window gutters, so they pop in and out easily. To make them stay in, and to make them light proof, I use Gorilla Tape to make seal flaps all the way round that I tuck into the window seals, plus a tab to assist with removal. These work really well. 100% light proof (no sewing required). Very effective as insulation, and condensation avoidance. Because they are matt black, the car just looks empty.
I'm in a Citroën C3 Picasso with my dog. Spent three weeks on Skye and outer Hebs last Sept. It was wonderful.

For the window covers, I've glued oversized black fabric over the insulation, then glued a few magnets onto the edges of that to attach to the metal parts of the doorframe. It seems okay; it'll have its first live test tomorrow!

I actually traded in my 2010 Ford Fiesta for a Ford Grand Tourneo Connect two years ago, so I could use it as a mini camper 😀
But I wish I had known more about car camping while I still had my Fiesta. If I had known about this, I definitely would have done it during the 12+ years I had it.
You make it seem really cool!
And I did really love my Fiesta! It was my first car and the perfect car as a beginning driver. And I could fit into small parking spots. ❤
And even though it looks small, a Fiesta can certainly fit A LOT of stuff. I know, because I always stuffed it as much as I could for regular tent camping trips. Tent, matrasses, table, chairs, inflatable kayak and so much more.
But I'm also very happy with my large Connect, now I can take even more stuff (so now I also bring an inflatable SUP 😁).
Still missing the Fiesta when there are only small parking spots though. Or when I need to do a U-turn in a narrow street 😅

My partner and I lived out of our little Chevy Cruze for a month, twice and took it on shorter trips and did this! Definitely not as thought out, but we would put the back seats down and make a bed with our feet in the trunk. Eventually we got a roof box to put our gear and stuff in which helped out a lot with storage.

Not sure if you watched my Fiesta camper conversion video but something I added and loved were my CarShade brand sun/bug screens which I have found give amazing privacy and you can have your windows open without bugs coming in. I also added Heko wind deflectors so I could keep my windows cracked at night which made a lot of difference with air flow and feeling stuffy, especially when it's raining. Love seeing what others do with their car campers; I'm now in a VW Touran as I got fed up of having to make up the bed every night (I have two dogs so couldn't leave it out).

You can buy little magnets that you can attach or stitch onto the window blinds and they should hang on to the window frame. I got mine from b&q but I couldn't find the right one so I bought cupboard door hinges and took apart the item so I could get the magnets out which are really strong and the whole things really cheap 👍

For window covers for my fiesta st 4 door i have a set of 4 magnetic trim blackout curtains which are great in the summer against heat, but not cold friendly, my windshield i have an insulated windshield cover from the inside, rear hatch window i have another insulated windshield cover, I’ve been trying to figure out a better way to secure it in place since when it’s open it covers the whole hatch door. Otherwise for a bed support i use a cot *military style camping bed* as my mattress and 3 half inch thick plywood sheets for mattress support, i used round dowel rods cut to length for support, the dowel rods all have a felt pad on the floor side and a bolt thread screw on the plywood side, with the female end of the nut pressed into the plywood to help keep it from shifting. to hold the plywood together i use house door hinges with a quick pull pin to keep them alligned. All this being said, i did remove my rear seat back-rest and my whole front passenger seat for more space overall for car camping and weight savings, also gives significantly more cargo room or personal room when i get dressed in the car… I’m 6’1 and at a roughly 45 degree angle from my driver seat back to my passenger taillight cover is big enough for me to lay flat before I removed the front passenger seat and rear seat, now an xl length cot fits perfectly flat on the passenger side of the car.

The hatchback would be so convenient...I did this with my Volvo S40 and I have to climb in through the back passenger door then put my feet in the boot 😅 For the blinds, I use fabric with magnets, it works great and super easy to customize, plus you can keep a window down if it's hot and the midges won't get in.

    • @AmberinEryri
      @AmberinEryri  3 года назад

Hi, I usually walk from home as I’m lucky enough to live in the mountains. But no I wouldn’t leave your car on the side of the road, depending on where you go there are still some car parks free of charge, but most have some sort of 24 hour fee you’ll have to pay. Best bet is parking in a nearby village and catching the Snowdon Sherpa bus (find the schedule online) to where you want to start your walk.

beautiful project, I would like to replicate it in my fiesta, can I ask you the measurements of the wood? width and length, thanks

The real question is how far are you willing to go for interior space, and is it the 3 door hatch or 5 door hatch?

Also, minus the cutouts for seatbelt bolts the space for the front passenger seat is 19” wide slightly tapering towards the dashboard to 17”… if my memory serves correctly the rear floor deck is 43” wide, rear seat 44-47”

Hi Amber, you can actually remove your back seats, i did the same. you will have much more space then.

Just seen your vid. I've just come back (today) from my 1st night car camping also a 3dr fiesta, only I just made mine sleep on one side of the back as I needed extra storage for my paddleboard gear. Don't know if you have a spare tyre (mine doesn't) so I took the gumph out which was basically a large big of polystyrene with 1 electric pump in it and use the trye well for extra storage.

That’s a good idea, I’ve always thought of using that as storage but I do now have a spare tyre, got one recently as had a tyre blow a few months ago and was a nightmare sorting it without a spare to change so now I always have one 🙈

@@AmberinEryri Maybe you can put the spare behind one of the front seats as the tyre well is bigger so would still increase your storage space. I use mine to put the camping loo in, I just can't do a poo in the wild although I'm quite used to using the shewee I just gotta sit to poop. Lol.

@@AmberinEryri How do you get out once you wake up as I can't open fiesta boot from the inside so I have to squeeze out the passenger door with it push as far forward as it'll go?

    • @AmberinEryri

I have a new style key with the boot release button, so if you press it twice quickly it releases and you can open it from inside…
