The medical condition that you have that makes you "pull or feel like pulling your hair out" is called trichotillomania. And is generally caused by severe stress and anxiety.

Also I use my edge scarf under my wigs under the band. 5 days and I see results. Always be aware of what’s on ya nape. So awareness and consistency is so important
This video was basic but left out info Here is what actually worked for me: 1. Cut nape hair an EVEN length first 2. Moisturize with Oil and Water 3. Twist & Band into MULTIPLE sections 4. Be sure to tuck & protect your ends 5. Keep it moisturized & Leave it alone. 6. Maintain 3 or 4 banded twists 7. Retwist weekly or biweekly These steps caused a lot of growth for me. I'm basically keeping my nape area in a protective style WHILE giving each parted section individualized attention. Don't treat your nape area like it's just extra hair that is "a problem". Treat it like the hair of a 5yr old LOL. My nape had been an issue for years BUT after started & continued with these 7 steps...I really WISH that I had done this a long time ago for real. Keep in mind that you do NOT have to shave this hair off which is an option that some people prefer to do for low maintenance. However, I do keep my nape area shaped up around edges with clippers to maintain a Neat Look My goal has been to grow out the nape so that I can neatly include/ brush it up into a nice bun with the rest of my hair. So far it has been growing A LOT. I hope that this helps someone else:)

You must not know about rosemary water and rosemary oil. They work fast. With the water you take 5 sprigs of rosemary with 5 cups of water. You can use it as a rinse. The last thing you do after you condition your hair. With the oil you use the double boiler method. Use extra virgin olive oil with avocado oil. Put the rosemary in the oil and turn dark. Make sure you wash the rosemary in a bowl with warm water. Dry with a paper towel. Massage on scalp and hair after it cools.

mono dramas if I keep pulling and messing with my hair I’m going to get that and it started in one spot
Its really bad😭😭
Same here. Mine is becoming more extreme. I’ve had trichotillomania for about 7 years now. I don’t know how to stop it... any advice?
I’ve literally tried everything for my nape to grow . I’m definitely going to try this and try to stay consistent
My nape is super short. I will start a moisture routine. For that spot specifically now, thanks : )
Have you seen any results?
Any results girl?
I have the same issue except I don’t wear wigs I put my hair in tight low buns. After awhile it took my hair right out. So hopefully this video helps !!
I learned that some of our hair black hair we need to keep it moisturized keeping it dry will cause hair fall like water leave in condition and then hair grease then keep one style in for 3 to 6 weeks ...
The breakage at the nape causes my hair to bush out in the triangle shape. If I let the top of my hair grow out it sits over the ultra curly short nape hair and looks really bad. During the day, I run my fingers through the nape hair, ball, knots form. I don't know what to do!
I’ve been experiencing similar issues with my nape and I just been getting an undercut because I just wanted it to look even in size in the back so I get it cut in the back and I started to feel more comfortable with it and allows me to go natural and wear wigs
Well my hair been damaged for year every since I watched this video and took your advice my hair been growing I been seeing growth
I moisturize with the pantene gold series butter creme. Literally the first ingredient is water, and I LOVE IT!
My whole life my nape has been super short and course. The rest of my hair is about 3b but my nape is about 4c, so crazy. Its always tangled and dried up, but the hair is still super thick down there so I just leave it lol I’m gonna start targeting moisture down there now though
Trichotillomania... girl I did a big chop last year because I was suffering from inflammatory alopecia from picking at my crown and nape and having tight styles. I'm seeing major growth in the crown now, but I'm still struggling with the nape on one side (where I pick). I wear wigs too. Thanks for sharing -- going to my beauty supply today!
Quiana Hood hi care to share what use for the crown area
@@luckyhall8634 its growing but still very fragile (I have thick 4c hair, that area is thinner and more like 3a)... i keep it covered in loose cornrows and I use oils (black castor, Hot Six) to massage my scalp from time to time. Sometimes, the best remedy is to restrict manipulating that area. I also take vitamins for hair skin and nails from time to time.
I have Trichotillomania as well. Definitely can relate
Great tip, ur awesome!!
I have this same habit and honestly I also sleep on the back on my head. I also had bad history of perming and bleaching my hair so my edges and my nape is the same texture 🤦🤧
I pull hair out when I feel sore spots on my head 😔
Same! I had a really bad bout with sore, burning spots that resulted in me pulling out my entire crown section from ear to ear. Then it just started coming out on it's own, still painful to touch and burning. I've lost all BUT my edges, which is crazy. I've been trying to grow my hair back for years.
Sadly I do it too
Can you do a nape follow up video since this was a year ago
The medical condition that you have that makes you "pull or feel like pulling your hair out" is called trichotillomania. And is generally caused by severe stress and anxiety.
Yeah I Been dealing with that for 7 years. This year I stopped pulling my hair and I’m almost 2 months free doing it😁and my hair is growing back fast so I’m proud
@@Luvliaa You should be. This isn't an easy illness to deal with and there are so many people who deal with this illness yet remain secretive about it due to embarrassment. Thank you for your courage to speak up and be a voice in adversity. Many blessings on you.
Btw get 2 edge scars so your nape is completely covered. They like 4 for $8 on amazing. Because like she said, a regular scarf with just lift. Also I use my edge scarf under my wigs under the band. 5 days and I see results. Always be aware of what’s on ya nape. So awareness and consistency is so important
Sulfur 8 grease and Doo grow grease
Can I rub jamaican black castor oil on the back of my head
This video was basic but left out info
Here is what actually worked for me:
1. Cut nape hair an EVEN length first
2. Moisturize with Oil and Water
3. Twist & Band into MULTIPLE sections
4. Be sure to tuck & protect your ends
5. Keep it moisturized & Leave it alone.
6. Maintain 3 or 4 banded twists
7. Retwist weekly or biweekly
These steps caused a lot of growth for me.
However, I do keep my nape area shaped up around edges with clippers to maintain a Neat Look
My goal has been to grow out the nape so that I can neatly include/ brush it up into a nice bun with the rest of my hair.
So far it has been growing A LOT.
I hope that this helps someone else:)
How often did you moisturize and oil did you do it every day? What oil did you use to seal
@@brizzyy4343 For me, water first then Jamaican Black Castor Oil on my scalp and on my hair from root to tips. JBCO is pretty thick so after I initially twist it, I only needed to remoisturize my scalp and my tips/ends 1 - 2 more times during the same week.
On days when I didnt add more oil I would just Spray the entire nape section with a leave-in conditioner.
( I made my own with water, JBCO, aloe vera juice and regular conditioner. Just mix & shake it up) Spray and keep it moving.
The key is really in keeping your tips/ends moisturized because this is the Oldest part of your hair and the first part to break off.
Keeping healthy ends is key to maintaining Length.
So be sure to "respect your elders" :)
You are going to like the results !
@@crystalbush5273 thank you so much🤎
@@crystalbush5273 i can put bands on the nape her to my nape hair that on my right and left but not my middle it can barely even twist, any advice?
And by bands you mean rubber bands and not elastic bands right?
That’s where my hair is short in the back literally the same area but the rest of my hair is super long if I get it braided wil that short hair effect my hang time or will the long hairs right above it be where my hangtime or nah
I've been dealing with this for a few years ever since a bad haircut. It annoys the heck out of me but it's growing back though
Don't be ashamed we all have our bad habits. I also pull on my hair but my most noticeable habit is when I'm stressed I pull out all my eyelashes leaving me looking like an alien. When they're all gone I'm move on to something else. I'm a scratcher/picker. So I will tweeze/pluck any hair I can find and when I have none left I scratch like crazy sometimes so bad to the point I start bleeding so when I'm stressed I try to keep my nails short. I hate that I do this and plan on finding healthy ways to deal with my stress. But thanks for sharing your journey with us. Maybe and update soon?
Its a control disorder..... Trichotillomania
@@okodughaglory6989 oh yes I know I learned about the proper name for it about 2016 after doing it for about 4-5 years already by then. I just couldn't think of the name when it was typing my response.
@@evettes.6820 I got to goggle about it when my mom and myself were already tired of my hand, edges and nape hair...
But my momma isn't believing its not entirely my fault I can't control my hands
@@okodughaglory6989 it can be a hard thing to explain to others who haven't experienced. I also pluck the hairs in my legs and honestly any other area i can get too 🙃 so I normally shave and try my best to be hairless so I don't pull any hairs. (Unfortunately I start picking my skin too, it is a struggle) It got so bad late September that I decided to shave my head bald because I had damaged my hair so bad. I just realized today sadly that I've been doing the same thing again the past week and need to find a coping mechanism to stop otherwise ill probably have to trim alot sooner then I want. Try to have your mom research about it and work through it if research does help try helping her visual it in the sense that it is a double edge sword for helping with stress and anxiety. We doing it subconsciously because we need to be in control of something however it is also a from of self harm.
@@evettes.6820 😥 I am hairless on my skin actually..i shave every little strand coming out...its just heartbreaking and its making me lose my self esteem,💔😥😥🤧 cos of the hairless scarp I am beginning to have
Mine is just thin so middle part with no braids bother me it's frustrating because I'm scared to wear styles that show it
Yes, but what are you using to wrap your hair at night? I've been using a wave cap and I know that that is part of the culprint. I dont know any other way to wrap my hair where it doesnt pull/sit on my nape area. I honestly feel like my nape area hair follicles are dead. Either from constant friction of the wave cap or from relaxers from my youth. Either way, I'm willing to try anything. Plus, I wear my hair flat ironed, so .... I should still be using a cream? Help me!
My nape is finally growing through my use of Bask and Lather growth stimulator oil, but now it's starting to break out in acne. Which causes bald spots 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
I have the same problem with the picking at my hair and it got worse ! The breakage traveled all the way up past my ears . My hair used to be so beautiful, thick and long 😢
Sometimes we need to address the root cause of what is making you pick your nape hairs, stress, anxiety, tension, get to the source, stop pulling it, watch it grow.
appreciate you for this video because chileeee i really been self conscious about this for years!
I’m so happy I came across your video because I’m going through the same thing. How is your nape area now?
Cantu ate my hair off to the rotta had to use castor oil my hair hates anything with coconut
Same!
Coconut cuts my hair too,i taught I'm allergic to it.
Mine too
I don’t wear wigs and don’t even touch my nape hair but yo they don’t wanna grow
Mine looks just like your before pics rn and it’s sore most of the time, which makes me pull on it more. It sucks but I’m definitely going to try this
I literally have two huge bald spots on the nape of my neck that have been increasing for the past 3 months. I'm gonna try out these tips, but I think my hair might be too far gone.
I am strugging with the exact same thing. Mine is getting worse. There is no hair growing back there at all and i dont think its coming back :(
@@ashleystuber882 Welp, After three more months, one of my bald spots actually is growing back; albeit ALOT more thin than it used to be. The other bald spot is still bald, but stopped going in size. I'm wishing you luck in your hair growth 🤞🏿
I seen another article where everybody shared our issue but swore their kinky/or shortened nape didn't bother them lol...girl for 30 years my nappy nape(beadie beads) or whatever it's called bothered me lol n damit it is time for a growth moisturizing transformation. Im natural so no perms!!! Lol had to vent. Thanks for sharing love👍🏾💪🏾
I pull out my nape too, to the point where I just ended locking a little section the left side of my nape where I pull the most. So I trained myself out of pulling my hair that way
Girl I pull my hair too especially when I’m fighting my sleep did since I was little. surprised I’m not bald! But I try to catch myself or try not to pull it out just touch n move.
Can you list the oil product by Palmers that you mentioned.
Oh thanx girl great idea. I'm gonna try this with my chebe & fenugreek oil . You are so Pretty, keep up the good wrk👏🏽
My back of my hair is short too the rest of my hair is long like why is that 🤦♀️
You’re very pretty. You sound like Whitley, a different world.
Wild growth oil would do you better. You should give it a try. You can't go wrong with wild growth oil.
What did you do with the hair in the meantime before it could be braided???
Spray a little water on it first before adding cream for added benefit and better results
Do this routine every 2-3 days or at least once a week
@@user-bj1ez7wr7n rebrand it every 2-3 days or just add the products every 2-3 days
@@brizzyy4343 just add the products every 2-3 days or when ever you feel like it’s too dry. Rebraid when needed. But when you take down your braid definitely remoisturize while your hair is loose to make sure you get it all over.
@@user-bj1ez7wr7n Thanks you so much how long did it take for yours to grow back? I plan on doing this when ever I get a protective style like I’m not gonna involve them in my protective style
@@brizzyy4343 Mine only took 4 months to get to a length that I was comfortable with. And about 6-8 months to get close to length of the rest of my hair. It’s because I did this along with other hair Growth methods. I wrote a whole ebook on growing hair
This was a very helpful video I’m going through the exact same thing it has always been short
Have the same issue. All parts of my hair is long except that part.
Am going through the same thing! Thanks for sharing ur tips girl👌🏾
I've started doing that to, but it's bc I call myself trying to see how much damage is back there. I think it's from all of the brushing from buns, but it's still breaking and a lot of damage
Hiiii!! I always had problems with the nape area. Not until I went Natural 5 years ...then my nape started to grow. My nape area is now Bra strap length. I follow you tuber Indigenous strandz routine.
I wear my hair about 90% of the time in 2 strand twist. I wear 100% silk Bonnet at night. I try to keep my twist up loosely most of the time. You are a cutie!💕
Doesn't matter if your natural or not.. it's from tension or stress
Sometimes the lifestyle ..ive been in the army for 20 years and have pulled my hair in a low bun for years. I'm natural and I normally wore twists or loose ponytails.. it's just overtime if u have fine hairs it will suffer
Gur,l is that me in the video!😂..we have the same nape. Although mine is shorter and i was so annoyed with my nape that i shaved it off and done a cute undercut. It’s grown back now but its still very dry and rough compared to the rest of my hair.
Thanks for the video!
Thank you for this video. I am having the same issue.
should u just use the products until ur hair is long enough to braid or twist?
I have the complete oppesite hair texture but my nape hair is sooooo damaged and I noticed a couple of days ago that it just broke off. I didn't find any videos for fine straight hair on this topic but I'll try this out :D
I use to pull on the front of my hair as a child and my hairline looked a mess. Now, as an adult, I pull on the back of my head smh. I need to stop. Thanks for this video!
This was soooooooooo helpful and on point. I could relate to all of this
Thanks sister please share it how to use relaxed hair I mean when you want to apply relaxes your hair
Umujuweria Ahmed you're welcome !! My hair isn't relaxed 😩 i probably wouldn't be the best person to tell you about that! But i do believe it should work the same
The back of my head looks just like yours I also have that problem with picking at my hair working on it tho
I have nearly the exact same problem exept only then mildle part of my hair is normal and the rest is short also I have dots in the front portion of my hair instead of normal hair . I usually stretch it out when I'm watching something and it annoys me cuz I wanna stop but I feel like I have to so basically I have a similar problem.
I have that habit and i had a bald spot in the nape but it grows so fast for me with was weird since my hair doesnt really grow that fast idk
Bro I can’t stop playing with the back of my hair and I don’t know how to stop
I’m going to try this method hopefully it works
You must not know about rosemary water and rosemary oil. They work fast. With the water you take 5 sprigs of rosemary with 5 cups of water. You can use it as a rinse. The last thing you do after you condition your hair. With the oil you use the double boiler method. Use extra virgin olive oil with avocado oil. Put the rosemary in the oil and turn dark. Make sure you wash the rosemary in a bowl with warm water. Dry with a paper towel. Massage on scalp and hair after it cools.
I do the same thing! Thank you for sharing this video! Gives me hope!
Omg yess but in my case it was different i do that with my nape too but not very bad or something i just had my hair always in a thight low bun and it was very thight by my nape so it started to become thinner and i got a few little bald spots
I’ve tried all this and eventually caught up but took two years then last year texture destroyed (heat?) from one blow out Brock off again. I just cut it off don’t know what toneo
Omg back off mines fall out and I got what u use Ty amma just use it and see what happens
YOUR DOING GOOD KEEP IT UP! AND I'LL TAKE YOUR ADVICE ON FLAT TWISTING THE NAPE AND MY EDGES , THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE AND BLESSINGS
You should be so proud of yourself sis! Keep up the great work ❤️
also stay hydrated with water
I have trichotillomania too
Girl I had that same habit. I pick pick pick at my nape hairs. I just call it a tick. I just try to force myself to do something else
Thank you so much for this video I have been looking for something for such a long while everything that you describe about the name of the back of the head that's what I've been dealing with for over a year and it's very funny that the products that you actually showed that new use actually do have the coconut curling cream so as I was watching your video this evening I was actually putting the products in my hair thank you so much I will continue this as my nightly routine
