  • Spring is here in the mountains of Virginia. As a senior rider I am planning adventures on a WR250R this year. Lighter then my DR650, more nimble than me! A quick spring ride to get the blood flowing, talk about the bike, BDR motorcycle adventures coming up and a look at remains of a Civil War operation.

    Good stuff as always JR, you are becoming one of my favorite channels! Thank you so much for inspiring many to adventure regardlass of age !! I have a 2019 WR250R, had a 2014 WR, dumped in some back water from the MS river and killed the motor. That sucked, but I do have spares !! It had 42k on it and was tight. Only thing that felt worn were the clutch and brakes. They are quality, solid, nimble and very reliable bikes. I love mine!! Good choice. I think a lot of young older riders would be better off on these. Get a seat concepts seat, pegs, bars and they are good to go. I hope to get a 100k plus out of mine. Yamaha warrants the motor to a 100k if you change oil /filter every 3k at dealer. Hard to do but tells you it should last !!

    I had a WR250R - and rode the western TAT and the AZBDR. I put hundreds of dollars of mods - LED turn signals, pannier racks, skid plate, etc. A capable bike - but PAINFUL to ride for hours day after day! I sold it - but if I had known that Yamaha was going to discontinue the model, I would have stored it.

    WooHoo - First! 🤣😂 Good to see you posting on a new, (to me) Yamaha. AZ is already too hot unless you stay up in the northern part of the state, monsoons will kick in July/August. Death Valley I'm looking at 108degrees when I cross it. NM is a good choice. I'll be heading NW to WA along the coast and then turn towards the East Coast then home through UT/CO, I picked up a Yamaha T700 so I plan to run away and see family, friends and country. Take it easy Joe, great to see you out on the bike. A review of the DR and the WR would be interesting.

      @@jrdepew believe me I understand going light. I’m not young, strong or good looking anymore. This will do the road miles like the Vstrom but way better in dirt and camping. I would love to hook up in WA but I should be in PA or NC by then if no surprises 🫣
      If you get to NM maybe I could run out for a day or two depending what part.

    Nice to see you back for the 2023 season. I’ve been following you during your last season adventures. I am planning to do the Pennsylvania Wilds BDR in June for my shake out run. Then starting the TAT mid July. Since I live in Pennsylvania, I will be taking the MABDR south to Damascus Virginia, then jumping on the TAT. Goal is to reach Colorado San Juan mountains, do the Alpine Loop and a few single track trails. Then head back towards Pennsylvania as time permits. My 2021 Honda CRF 300l is modified and ready to go. Thanks for your channel and the great content. Keep riding and stay safe.

    Good to see ya back at it! I currently have a T7 and a WR 250. Set the wr up for running the KAT (ky adventure trail). I had a dr650 but like you I wanted to go a little lighter, the KAT can get pretty technical at times. You might want to look it up since it’s in your backyard. I have enjoyed your videos a great deal. Ride safe my friend.

    I had the PABDRX on my list for early July. I think that I am going to wait and try to do that as a fall ride.
    I am going to take the 2 weeks at the end of June and early July to drive the Taco + roof top tent + cycle trailer + 890 Adventure out to the mountains in NM and CO.
    Use the truck to get across the hot desert and high plains of Texas… then it will become a base camp and will use the 890 for days trips around the mountains.
    I will have plenty of long distance trips on the 880 ADV and a R1250GS this season.
    GL on your 2023 trips.

    Sadly due to government restrictions there are few places to ride off road these days, a joke in a country like ours. Laws for everything in Canada. I don't want to ride over 200 miles of road to reach somewhere the government is not watching/restricting.

    Working on getting more seat protection for the rear. I do some standing. But just a pain in the rear at 25miles. Put Seat Concepts on but still not much relief. Waiting on some padded riding wear. Next will have to try a pillow top 😅😊. Hope to do some of the Idaho BDR.

    How did you solve the Jerky problem with the wr in low gears going slow like first or second? Ours is really jerky. Seems like the throttle doesn’t kick in until it’s 2% out.

    • @jrdepew
      @jrdepew  9 месяцев назад

      Hi. Thanks for the question. Here is a link to excellent information on the set up of a WR. There are a number of things you can do. I’ve geared it down and that pretty much solved it for me. There are several more ways explained in her article. Look at Throttle tube Cam and throttle position sensor in the mods section…..
