He's such a sleaze-ball, that even his narrator is just done with him. That woman reads his actions like she's just done with him and wants to leave the studio. really brings the atmosphere together XD
the last time i saw him was in clue as well, but before that, i've seen him in criminal minds, playing a serial killer who attacked and tied up husbands and wifes in their bed and assaulted the wife infront of the husband. his voice in the game is very similar to the one in that episode, especially when he speaks in a very low voice
For anyone interested, the german poem reads: "Three Dragons crawl into my slumber, longing to eat the soul alive. Fiery breathed, fork tongued, they enjoy each meal." For the younger here, there used to be a slogan where an owl says, 'Give a hoot! Don't pollute', as an anti-litter campaign in the 80's/90's-thus why the narrator says it when Gabriel is in the park.
I love when Narrators are given personality xD It's even better when the narrator turns out to be a character in the game later on or a character you already know of within the game.
@Tamtudy No? I've never played or seen this game before. Quit assuming something is a spoiler. If you don't like spoilers, then take some accountability and stop looking at comment sections or what other people are saying about a game. That's on you. As a shareholder, delighted with the retro/older gaming angle the company is currently enjoying. We’re being spoilt. Tell me all about the Voodoo, Sir!
Wow, Detective Frick is voiced by the legendary Jim Cummings! (Basically every Disney character you love: Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Darkwing Duck, millions of others.) This game has everyone in it.
Given the appearance of Andy Richter as the basis for another of the portraits, I'm pretty sure Conan was the primary inspiration for Gabriel's portrait.
for some reason my brain couldn’t believe that’s Tim Curry until the character said “romance” a certain way and I was like oh ok yeah lol. this is so cool loving the vibes and the gameplay! also the narrator is amazing
I wonder if John would be interested in ever playing a Nancy Drew game from Herinteractive. The one he’s playing right now is giving subtle original Secrets Can Kill vibes.
I was like: come on john! when he gave the warning at the beginning. but when I heard the MC talked I cringed so hard Lmao. Thanks for the warning John.
Man this makes me SO HAPPY I feel I’m back to the early RUclips days watching people play games they love. I have a soft spot for point and click games despite never playing any of them as a kid. Gabriel Knight reminds me of Laura Bow and everything it’s just so gorgeous and detailed and wonderful, thank you so much for this John, I hope we get to see you play many more games like this ❤
Whenever you get a point (or maybe a new clue?) in this game, the little midi-piano riff that plays is the same tune as “State Farm is there” in their jingle and that alone is making me completely insane
I have a yoohoo, a big bowl of Chef Boyardee Mini Ravioli, took my meds so my adult body can survive and I'm sitting at work on my lunch break. It is a much better day now with a great classic point a click game!
John I'd like to leave you a couple of little tips for this game. 1. press the cogwheels on the wright family tomb. 2. you'll want to go back to grandmas house. you left something behind that is very important to the story. it's located up those stairs behind where your sitting. tip 3. The people can tell you even more about themselves if you ask them more.
I love this game, even more happy that John plays it with the original voice actors, not dissing the anniversary version but I just love the original voices so much.
Oh my god, yes! I was so hoping. This is the best possible timeline. I hadn't caught the "shareholder" video yet so maybe this was mentioned already but so, so happy to see this! Immediately inspired to go back and watch John play Putt Putt and King's Quest V now.
unpopular opinion but i wish there were more games with this graphics cos i like it sooooo much, or it's just the boomer in me. Pixel art just has its charms.
Hell yeah!!! When you said in your Alone in the Dark playthrough that you wanted to play this on this channel, I was like, "hell yeah! You should! It's your channel, man!".... Well, in my head since I hardly ever comment. But I'm glad you finally decided to!!! Woo!!🎉
Been looking forward to this for a while! On another note, amazing how John seems so happy, healthy, well rested even after just having a baby. Clearly doing something right! ✨
I replayed the anniversary edition recently and forgot how much better the voices were in the original, especially Gabriel...the voices in the other aren't bad but it's very, very, very not the same.
I DID NOT expect the VA reveals in this, lmao. Gabriel's VA (spoiler-free!) still doesn't sound like him, that's wacky. Man is a chameleon! (Chame-LEON, in the spirit of the Alone in the Dark reveal?) Interesting to see such a retro game, I'm loving John's "I'mma just play what I want" era, you never know what's next! Anyway, curious how all this will play out!
these games were crazy full of personality in the 90s, but even more so now that so many games are by-the-numbers i always love watching people play point-and-click adventure games so i'm not alone in playing "find the story progression flag"
It's impressive that the German poem is actual lyrical German instead of a cobbled together mess of badly translated English lines, as is usually the case. Jane Jensen really put in the extra work there.
Oh boy! Time for some hilarious misogyny! Despite the age of this game, it's still a blast. Thank you for starting this up! Even better that you're not playing the new version!!
"What can you tell me about voodoo?" and "Do you know any shops where sailors might go?" Must surely be among the greatest questions to plague the best minds of our modern age

This is such a throwback, reminds me my age definitely. THANK YOU for playing this. ETA: After you mention the names of the VAs, omg. Now I recognize them LOL.Tim Curry and Leah Remini...dang.
Yesss! I actually started playing this after you kept mentioning it in the first Alone in the Dark video - a drive through the memory lane for me, we used to play it with my family when I was younger and to this day we sometimes repeat the narrator's lines. Definitely more frustrating than I remembered and I'm most definitely too dumb to play it (mostly) blind so naturally I had to dig up a guide. 😂 Happy to watch you play it, with its flaws and all!
AMAZING! I love old school point and click adventure games, some of my all time favorite games. I love all the broken sword games and monkey island games… would you ever consider doing a play through of them? that would be awesome but tbh I love your choice of games to play regardless and truly love your content! So excited for this playthrough 😊
I grew up with Gabriel Knight 2 and just recently watched a different LP of this game and instantly fell in love. Sooo happy to watch it again here, love your commentary John 🤍
This game will always and forever make my soul weak. One of my absolute favorites - I used to sit and watch my mom play this when it first came out and then a few years later me trying to play it by myself but being too scared in some scenes lol this game is amazing. I do wish some of the original artwork from the initial release was still in the game but alas. GK2 will forever make my soul break and I hope you experience that one with us soon.
YYYYEEEAAAAHHHH!!!! Old games! Love it! I am so happy you have made this new chanel for these kinds of streamed content. This is the sort of thing that I watch viedo game playthrough's for!
I grew up with the Gabriel knight trilogy. My father and I played them together except for the second game “the beast within” which I never got to finish. It’s great to see you play this, it’s bringing back a lot of great memories.
I love point and click adventure games, specially the classic ones! Yes, they can really get in your nerves with their pixel hunting and their puzzle "logic", but they are fun. So happy you decided to give this one a try here, never played it myself so really looking forward to see how it goes! :D
As a shareholder, the expansion of the John Twolfe Corporation into the Gabriel Knight LP market is pleasing.

I love the Clue move so much! It's one of my favorites.
I love Tim curry, I CANNOT hear him in Gabriel. It is driving me insane
I hear it. He's so talented as an actor. He can do anything, I swear.
WAIT WHAT?! No way! Never knew this!
The fact that the lip movements are synced to the words being said rather than just flapping randomly… I appreciate that small detail so much.
Gabriel Knight looks like an underfed Gordon Ramsay. Very hard to take seriously. Which is excellent.
He's asking about that French phrase to everyone except the one person who's willing to look stuff up for him IN A BOOK STORE. Strange protagonist lol
And strangely, zero people he talks to in New Orleans know any French at all. Everyone here is a bit off.
