Well, this got real quick. A great way to dig at the fact that we all just watched an 11 minute advertisement for a highly monetized mobile game by examining how your townsfolk "live to work" for the "opportunity" to go home and be force fed ads made by companies that they just spend 40+ hours a week creating profit for.
Oh, and trains were in it too. Well done.
SimCity really added a premium coin just for trains…

I actually like Simcity build it as a game but my lord the monetization is so heavy handed it just isn’t worth it with out spending a dumb amount of money.

In fairness Simcity is known for terrible : spinoff names, 3000, Societies etc.

Imagine some excited developer rushing to their boss' office: "Sir, Cities Skylines 2 has received some backlash due to performance issues and missing features we should take advantage of this to bring back sim city!!" And the CEO at the EA HQ was like "ok, throw some codes for the mobile game and sponsor some videos or whathever"
Between this and Super Mega Baseball 4 I’m starting to think it is *literally* impossible to EA to release a good video game. Like I know “EA sucks” has been a massive statement and joke for years but like…holy shit

@@MrSkerpentine You see, the last real SimCity failed, so they just turned it into a mobile game and won't ever release a normal product of that again, especially since the studio behind both simcity and sims got closed down almost 10 years ago now.
Also "EA sucks" never had been a joke, it had been an honest statement ever since they closed down the first studio in 2001 (if not prior already) - everytime they just sell one copy less than EA wants them to, or theres a controversy they just close down the studios (unless its one of their Juggernaut franchises, in which case they'll just restructure the studio like 2-4 times before closing them if nothing changes).

At first I thought this was an extended "Simpsons Monorail" joke, but the longer it went on, it felt more like an allegory for turning mindless RUclips viewers into ad money.
I don't know whether to be impressed, ashamed (and of whom), or upset. It's all very confusing, and all I know is I'm feeling a lot of emotions.

Wasn't BuildIt that mobile version of the game that was good at first, but then was overtaken with 100500 extra premium currencies? Played it years ago. If I recall right, the game was best when you could stop at around level 16-18 to stop more premium mechanics from cropping up. Basically the best way was to go for university to open fusion reactor and skip all the unlocks in powerplants tree instead of being locked away with pollution or low output forever just because the game had premium leveling. It took a lot of selling on the market to afford it though. But that is all if the memory is not bettaying me.
Hmm, wonder how it's doing nowadays. I kind of gave up at the time where spaceports, mountain resots and beaches were introduced. They still had east part of the city free of premium mechanics so likely dropped a few building there😅
Edit: If I recall the main reason to stop was because you only get like 1-3 special items per day and with more and more premium mechanics in play, you get more and more diversified list of said items. And to expand the city you need solely dozer parts, each time one more then previously. So the optimal play is to stay on the level and grind the size of the city. Then grind the next mechanic that opens up. Because if you'd just level up, item drops would insure that you will never get enough parts of the type you need.
Now I remember why it was such a bad problem, if I recall right the game had limited item storage and it needed the same special item "bundles" to expand the storage too. So the moment you opened more mechanics you death spiralled because you were getting less items of a type you needed with limited storage and rising requirements. Now I recall why I quit - I accidentally hit next level and it opened up the mountain resort premium mechanic thus adding 3 more filler items to the pool of random drops. I just couldn't beat it any longer:(
Yes, I played it for a bit and everyone was like, stop once you get to donuts which i think was like 17-20 or something. My biggest gripe with the game is that you can't make good looking cities if you want to play optimally (e.g., cram everything as close to that firestation / police station / hospital as you can. It's fun to give it like 10-20 hours, but don't waste too much time on it. The pacing slows down incredibly as you level up. The challenges and wars can be fun and kept the game interesting for a bit. But it doesn't take too long for it to feel more like a chore than something to enjoy playing.

We started "accepting" it when it was forced onto us.
I recommend Kairosoft. While they do have some games with microtransactions, the majority of their games are one-time purchases with no further monetization, and they have a bunch of simulator-type games!

I played Sim City on Facebook, the game had a mechanic in which you could get Diamonds, the VIP currency for free in a building called "Bank", there were 4 tiers of this, each giving more diamonds proportionally to the waiting time However, the tier 4 bank gave 100 diamonds a day, and had the option to use 50 diamonds to skip the wait time, so you know what I did.
A few days later, the game was removed from Facebook.

As a kid this is exactly what I did in SNES Simcity. I didn't know how trains work.
Oooh. Caught my dad playing Buildit years ago and spent forever pointing out that he could be playing literally any *real game.* I'm shocked they bothered to continue developing for it at all given how they abandoned the real series.
The real series didn't nickel and dime people enough.
The studio of the real Sims & SimCity franchise doesn't exist anymore.
And I'd hardly call it developing it further, it honestly still looks the same as it did 10 years ago - except that they added coins for trains I suppose.

I remember playing this game in high school and actually did alright I spent a few buck but killed a lot of time in classes. I went back to it and it was still alright and pimped out my old city and killed a lot of time at work. I’ll probably go back thanks to AA, so I guess it worked AA.

The Flying Sim's name and it's design is a nod to the famous Flying Scotsman, the first steam locomotive to officially go 100 miles per hour.
I played this game a while ago , this video , given that it wasnt boosted beyond that code, would take ages to progress through.
