- SCP 999 is a Safe Class anomaly also known as The Tickle Monster.
SCP 001 is an Apollyon Class anomaly also known as When Day Breaks.
SCP-999 appears to be a large, amorphous, gelatinous mass of translucent orange slime, weighing about 54 kg (120 lbs) with a consistency similar to that of peanut butter. SCP999 temperament is best described as playful and dog-like.
Simply touching SCP-999’s surface causes an immediate mild euphoria, which intensifies the longer one is exposed to SCP-999, and lasts long after separation from the creature.
SCP-001 is the designation given to the Sun, after an event occurred that resulted in roughly 6.8 billion casualties within the first twenty-four hours. Upon contact with visible light produced by SCP 001, living organisms liquefy at the point of contact, with the effect spreading until the entire organism is converted into a form resembling melted wax. Organisms exposed to SCP001 though, do not perish.

SCP-999 is not vulnerable to When Day Breaks because he already is liquid.
And he augmented the opacity of his body in order to protect the boy from the light.
It seems like he has adaptability capacities similar to thoses of SCP-682, except that he doesn't use them to protect himself , but to protect others.

999 was more of a hero than the Foundation could ever be. Without even being asked, he selflessly snuck out of the compound and traveled tirelessly to the town to save the boy while the Foundation was just going to leave the boy for dead. 999 is the true protagonist of this whole series.

Considering 999 is a prophetic hero destined to literally defeat the, debatably, most powerful entity in the SCP Mythos, the Scarlet King. I am not surprised he would be willing to be more heroic than the “lesser evil” Foundation.

Like in the instance someone gave him i think either coffee or red bull and went hyper. And he has two 1 hour rest breaks. Him leaving the facility is a containment breach, but the practicality of it is different like 343 he would likily come back and is also unlikily to be harmed unlike 106 or 682 which would not go back if they had a choice.

When Day Breaks is one of the most traumatizing articles to read, or be read to from the various SCP channels. It is good to know that there was something worthwhile happening during this horrible event. I still wonder what happened to Dr. Bright when Day Broke.
Dr. Bright was in a site’s bunker and was welcoming survivors who were brought by 343.
@@thatcanadaguy3098 yeah, but there are several stories about bright, one says that he got caught by WDB at the beggining and become part of a blob colony but with hardness manage to get back at SCP to forge a plan to counter all the damages done by this XK scenario (St. Elmo's fire), other was that Able (scp 076) decided to hunt Bright forcing him to throw his amulet to a blob monster, etc.

This is yet another reason why The Tickle Monster makes me tear up with their wholesomeness. They show us that we don't need fighting to solve every problem in fiction, there's always a better way. And that a perfectly good character doesn't always have to be a Mary Sue, they can still be amazing.

The lesson doesn't really count unless there's actually a violent way to go about it. What would even be that violent way? 999 eating the monsters, discarding their souls, and becoming a breathable sea that floods the outside? Purposely killing the boy so 999 doesn't search for him? Killing the monster that was outside the bank? Using infiniTP to starve all the monsters of all their solar energy? I genuinely can't think of a violent way to go about it without the outcome being much better or much worse.

In a situation like this, most people's first idea would be a daring rescue mission with a hero/heroes that would figure out some violent, and probably clever, way of getting the boy to safety by blowing past the monsters in the night. But 999 just does something clever and peaceful that no one saw coming. And it always does stuff like that in every scenario. Something rare when dealing with monsters in horror stories, especially SCP tales in general.

Seeing as how 999 is “cut from the same cloth” as 682, it is no surprise that that he has circumstantially adaptive abilities. Especially with that adaptation being in service of someone else rather than himself.
Ultimately makes you wonder, once you consider what 682’s adaptive abilities are capable of. That it could be possible for 999 to, likely gradually, develop the ability to negate the sun’s corruption if it eventually felt fixing or repelling the sun would make everyone happy. Especially since, both prophecies effecting the reason on if 231-7 could give birth or not imply he is supposed to be one of, if not the most, powerful child of the Scarlet King.
I’d wager countering a corrupted star would be easier in contrast to a horrifying elder god of evil.
Nobody ever remembers the fact that there are probably thousands of anomalies that will awaken, activate, and rip out of their dimensions, to help humanity.

Their entire goal is total extermination regardless of threat. Meaning they have no counter measures to a supernatural being. Nothing to fight or stop them.
The SCP foundation has dimension traveling beings and world crossing objects and people who can transport them. At varying risks to a safer place.
Or have some other scps try and fight the anomaly like the moon champion, maybe punching the sun would help or simply fight the blobs.
I love how we finally see what happens in the first days of day break, how the panic sets in, people riot, governments collapse, conspiracy theorists deny it.
How more and more people die, until there is no one left outside the cold bunkers of the foundation.
Then the start of a war that is probably already lost.
All while SCP-999 helps people and the foundation hold onto what ever scraps of hope are left in the burning world.

I can imagine a story where ‘When Day Breaks’ is connected to the star eater SCP event. Like one of the star eaters got through the shield, past the guardian, and entered Sol. ‘When Day Breaks’ would simply be a side effect of the Sun being eaten. That’s my thought, at least - explains the shift of the Sun pretty well while we are at it.
“When day breaks” is basically like being an extreme introvert in hot Texas summer. I’m also already not a fan of direct sunlight or extreme heat, despite living in this climate, so I already experience “horror” of people and the sun.
In Florida it’s even worse. You can’t escape wet heat.

When Day Breaks also doesn't melt 173 either, but that's most likely because 173 is made out of concrete as well rebar and krylon paint. I bring up concrete as it's often used to make buildings and structures like an Ikea store that SCP-3008 is an annomolous version of, and last I check the building itself was still standing during the events of When Day Breaks.

8:18 I could write a whole book on that one boat scenario. A man lost at sea when fishing, only occupied with his phone, finding out the world is ending and he's consuming more of the news as more and more reports and stories come in. Communication being harder as sites and news get shut down, he quickly download as much as he can before he's completely isolated. Now all he has left is the content he got before it was shut down and slowly seeing the last of the world he can see die in the battery power he has left. Becoming more depressed and hopeless while the sea is as calm as ever and fish swim by as he forgot to put on a new bait.
Ending with him being too scared to go back to shore and staring into the water to drown, seeing for the first time. With the cities's lights gone and the vast dark waters, a clear sky. He sees the entire konstellation of stars and sky.
Would be a good allegory and warning of over consumption of information and media without taking care of the present and living where you are. Where the world was, it's doomsday, but from where he was it didn't matter. Yet he let himself be consumed by other's problems and become his own problem rather than working on planning ahead or simply enjoy what he has left to enjoy.

Well depending on the canon you believe. It's literal. Actually black sheep of the scarlet king's family. A force of pure good and destined to defeat his father. Given 999's nature, its either reformation or death by hugs and pure joy.
All things aside, if this ACTUALLY happened, I honestly wouldn't know what to do. But the best we COULD do, huddle up to 999 and hope for the best.

I read a "When Day Breaks" story where 106 and some mysterious woman would find those who willfully gave up trying to continue living in the terrible reality, and bring them back to 106's dimension. There they would be judged for their past lives. Those who were judged favorably were granted a quick death, and were buried to sleep peacefully safe from the sun in the darkness of the dimension. Those who were not judged favorably Larry got to have his way with. I don't think the people who were 'dead' were fully dead though, because when the sun tried to peak into Larry's dimension, supposedly the graves began to tremble with fear. But Larry banished the sun again by merely using a perspective trick, and squishing it between his fingers. Later, Larry stepped out into the sunlight to mock the sun, as it had no effect on him.
I dunno, I guess Larry found more pleasure in denying the sun new victims, than he did creating his own victims.

Scp-001 when day breaks can indeed melt people in the night due to the fact the moon reflects the sunlight onto the otherside of the earth . Night dosent cancel the effect, just reduces the risk of accidental transformations.

this is the only record of 999 showing any form of hostility. also is suspected the 682 and 999 are in some way related, but the lizard refuses to acknowledge such an accusation
682 and 999 are siblings of the scarlet king. They both came from an scp (I don’t remeber the number) that was seven pregnant woman, supposedly impregnated by the scarlet king, scp 682 was one of the first 6 that were born, And scp 999 was the seventh and last born.

SCP-001 negates all anomalous properties, even those used by reality warpers. So unless he's living in a bubble outside of the SCP-001 affected universe and has full control on allowing SCP-001 through or not, he's blob food.

I always assumed that When Dawn Breaks was protecting us from Scp 5000 because being transformed into a lifeless blob is infinitely preferable to eternal torture.
I don’t think it’s from SCP-5000 (Unless they’re the same authors) but you were on the right track, the sun turned humans into these because it wanted to save humanity rather than letting them die.

SCP-049 is dead. Dr.Bright's fate after the UnDublin nuclear attack is unknown. UnLondon has fallen and IKEA is not far from falling as well.

Something I just thought of, hypothetically, could we use scp 2501, also known as the claw, to move/destroy the sun so that it may be neutralized? After that I would have no doubt that the foundation could find some replacement for the sun.

@@TheScarletSlayer There is a facility in Mars that can change history and rewrite a new one effectively changing reality.
The ideas about it having adaptability, like 682, are really good, but fail to explain the why. The obvious answer is through 999's cross testing with 682. I think there is more to it though.
999's most striking ability is to alleviate the stress and worries of others. I believe that more than just helping those around it, 999 is consuming those emotions and are what truly fuel it; the candy is just a bonus.
After day broke, 999 had a flood of negative emotions building up more every day, which accelerated its growth/fueled its recently acquired adaptability for changing several parts of itself. The opacity was clearly not the only change, as the boy would most likely have suffocated, had 999 not also included a way for air to either enter or be recycled. Further, the boy was most likely scared of the dark as a whole at this point. I would not at all be surprised if 999 also created some form of bioluminescence inside to help the boy feel more comfortable during the trip.
