I really hope Dreadwolf is a return to form for BioWare, because both DA and Mass Effect are two of my all-time favorite series of games. They need a win, and I’m sure DA:D being a success will probably reinvigorate the team over there, which they deserve after putting sooo many years into this.

I love Dragon Age but I’m terrible at shooters. If I were to play one Mass Effect game which one should it be?

@@NaturalAegyo the answer to this would vary SO MUCH depending on who answers. For example, I'm in the minority and prefer ME3. But if shooters aren't your thing, I would go for ME1. It's dated, but the storytelling is amazing. What's more, the shooting is less refined. The other 2 play more like a cover shooter with ammo management etc. in fact, ME2 is the hardest of all 3 games and shooting is pretty much mandatory on higher difficulties. in ME1 you can choose the Adept class which is basically the equivalent of pure Jedi force powers. The sci fi Mage class. Super overpowered in the first game and shooting is more complimentary (sorry, I'm terrible at writing short concise answers lol), hope that helps :)

    • @stevenjohannesson316

The short answer, the whole trilogy! If you’ve never played them you should, as it’s one big story with fantastic characters and the combat isn’t that difficult at all.
If you truly completely suck, then just play it on the easiest difficulty all three games and it will be a complete cakewalk.

@@NaturalAegyo I honestly couldn’t give you any other recommendation than play all 3, starting with Mass Effect 1. But if shooters aren’t your forte, don’t feel bad about playing on Easy, I always do my first playthrough on easy just to enjoy the story, and the trilogy has one of the best stories in gaming.

Don't underestimate the impact of Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
1 - It obviously made a profit. As much as a new game would have? No, but it was money BioWare needed.
2 - It proved beyond a doubt the IP was still popular. It's important because franchises that remain so popular so long after their last games are rare and valuable. We are valuable because of our "loyalty". That's why I think that unless Dragon Age absolutely crash and burns, Mass Effect 5 will happen. And if BioWare really is that optimistic, all the more reasons we should be.
A successful DA game this year and a ME around 2028 would put BioWare back on track.

    • @dongarippo7279

I'm not that optimistic. I know that I will wait and see if it's a hit before I even consider paying for it. They can throw all FOMO elements at me and whatnot, still not buying it. I learned my lesson with Andromeda! I'm not buying it on trust or hope or because i t's "Bioware" anymore.
Also we should not forget Electronic Arts on top all of this. EA was the first company I ever heard of with a really damn poor reputation that had been justified a hundred times over and that hasn't changed still.
That being said, I hope you're right but I'm not counting on it. Certainly not betting on it :)

If Dreadwolf fails, they may still make ME5, but I definitely think it will be an excuse for them to do another set of layoffs, which is bad for the studio and their fans. DA:I was a success, There are even people who consider it the best in the series, even if I would say hell no, DA:O is by far best.
If Bioware is to survive I think doing a successful Dragon Age game might be the best way to go, and then push all their might in to ME.
I'm expecting it to be quite half-arsed, to squeeze out the last juice(money) from the Dragon Age IP and then EA tries to buy up Larian or some other good studio to add to their game squeezing press.
Also EA doesn't sell their IP:s ever. Far as I know. Meaning we will never really see another Dragon Age without EA:s nasty hands on it.

It would be nice to be able to have a consistent world state that doesn’t need to connect to the DA Keep system. It probably wouldn’t change anything with Inquisition given it was made with any import related changes being designed around the DA Keep parameters but would still be nice

I'm happy the director listened to you guys about the teasers. Maybe giving more concrete "what is going on in the world of Mass Effect" stuff so you guys can theorize and have fun (like short stories, I dunno) is better than giving criptic stuff and starving the fandom like it was with DA. Like, there was nothing actually NEW to talk about, even with the comics (nothing new there) and the cartoon (no one knows if the information is new or it is just bad adaptation since some stuff were not right by the lore) :/

If I were comparing in development gaming projects I continue to feel better about the progress and prospects of exodus vs ME. It’s night and day between how each studio is handling communications and updates on game dev progress and immersions or inclusions of gamers into the exodus lore for better engagement and awareness. And that's why I don't think you're being negative; you're being realistic. And everyone should be realistic. Fact is that there is every possibility that Mass Effect 5 was announced as early as it was exclusively to drum up support and interest in BioWare's products as they rush to the finish on a troubled project. That is to say that the simple idea of Mass Effect 5 might have bought them some time and goodwill. But that leaves us with the scary option of Mass Effect 5 not actually existing as a real, meaningful project; it could be a marketing ploy. A carrot to try and coerce people to support Dreadwolf even if they don't care about the Dragon Age franchise.

I remember he was mentioning that the dragon age 4 rise of the dread wolf would be the end for dragon age series that he would like to write the end which would involve a solution for what will happen with Solas on write an discovery for what happened with grey wardens and other important deeds through out the series. But since that time I was trying to reassure that maybe the team that still worked on dragon age would continue his work despite everything, but time passed and I caught myself on the same thought what if the success of dragon age 4 would ruin everything for us. If so it would mean another legendary studio to close off and maybe EA would give mass effect 5 to some other studio for developing it further. I don't think that Dreadwolf is the last shot at redemption for BioWare. I think it's the transition into the orange zone, if they fuck it up. Leading into the release of ME5, if that game launches poorly, THEN they'll be in the red. However I think that Dreadwolf will do fine. I don't think it will strike the same chord as fans of Dragon Age Origins want, but it's very likely to resonate with fans of 2 and Inquistion. The fact that they ditched the whole multiplayer live service slop method is reason enough for me to believe it will be a fine game. Then again, you can look at games like Dragon's Dogma 2 and see that some companies just implement scummy practices anyways, so who knows. Personally, from the leaks that were shown, I think it'll be a step up in customization, and likely will have great gameplay.

I don't think DA:DW is going to do the numbers the studios (Bioware, EA) would like. I think with them using the frostbite engine (or forced to use it assuming EA is the one that made the call), I think that decision hindered any expectation I ultimately had for it (personally speaking). I'm not saying it *CAN'T* be a good game, obviously (as we saw a glimpse of what that engine could be capable of through Andromeda), but to say *THIS* is the game that depends on Bioware's future is a farfetched assumption. I'm assuming DreadWolf will be playable on old Gen as well as current, which is *WHY* the future shouldn't depend on that game. I would like to think the next 'Mass Effect' is what holds the future of Bioware as the audience for that game is (probably) much larger than that of Dragon Age and would be their true test being current generation. The question Bioware faces as a whole is "can they salvage what's left of their fanbases with these next two releases and gain more fans in the process?". I really do love your work, Kala, this is just my honest take :)

I have a theoretical thought on who might be the next treat forming enemy in upcoming mass effect game, but for it I would like to ask a question. Does someone know who or what created the reaper’s? Because if one of mass effect 3 endings observed a possibility for synthesizing life form with synthetics, it still doesn’t answer question who was before all other life forms, reapers where created at some point similar to Geth’s, just a working hands by someone else and where kept in dark energies mass world, but I don’t remember correctly dark energy theory from first mass effect, so excuse me, if somewhere I made a mistake. So my theory is may be Bioware will reveal this unanswered question, and N7 who is called by others a fake one, may possibly be a creator of reapers.

You made a good point about people drawing the comparison between BG3 and DA4. To be honest, I think people and reviewers will inevitably make that comparison. I think the important thing from BioWare's side is to play to their strengths (story telling, world building, character relationships etc) and to not try and appeal to a super wide audience; this would water down the experience and lead to a similar situation to ME:A and DA2.
I think one of the reasons that Andromeda failed commercially is because it was unrecognisable as a Mass Effect game besides the name. I strongly believe that if the game was released under a different name and in a different universe, it would've done much better, since Mass Effect/BioWare fans are tempered to expect high quality in those strengths I previously mentioned. DA2 just tried to stretch itself too thin and watered down the gameplay experience and world building to a mediocre shit show 😂

Personally im not expecting a Origins and ME2 level product from Bioware ever again, the glory days of Bioware magic has long since passed but as long as its passable and a decent product by their recent standards ill be happy to go back to a series i know and love, i need a new Mass Effect game in my life though.

It is certainly going to play a pivotal role in how much progress and allocation of resources are further provisioned to ME. Mass Effect is already a question mark in its own right with the little to no solid detail provided from the project team currently working on ME. If this doesn’t deliver and in consideration of gaming studio news of late it’s high stakes and this has to sell. They’re also in a much more gamer value for price environment landscape than before. Many of these triple A rated games that had long build ups to release were plagued by defects in game play when pre ordered or purchased on day of releases so gamers are going to really expect and rightfully so, a stable and quality product and expect gaming studios to have learned from missteps of prior titles.
Hopefully these same people didn’t say they felt good about the release of Anthem and Andromeda when those were nearing release also though… one way or another the moment of truth is coming for this studio

EA is seeing big names willingly leave to go to other/start their own studios from not just Bioware, but also Maxis and their other dev teams; this also means that EA is seeing more competition especially in the life sim genre that they've had a monopoly on via The Sims for years. To add in that EA is also wanting to put ads in their games and the amount of backlash they are getting for it is spelling disaster for them as a whole. EA broke up into two organizations last year. Given all the labor that has been put into Dreadwolf that is tossed because of replans they must be working toward minimizing their losses.
