Long story short, my editing software has been acting up so I apologize for the clip with cuss words. I know it may not mean much to some of yall but it does to me.
Secondly, because of the editing issue, some part cut off as I was talking. Y’all didn’t miss much. The lady was stitching the previous video we had watched.
I’m in the process of updating my editing software so this doesn’t happen again. My apologies to y’all’s eyes and ears.
No problem! Being a creator is hard, tbh! I'm still thankful for what you do! :)
That’s okay, your very consistent with your creations and I am great full!
I think we all appreciate the attention to detail you pay in your editing. Especially with poor choices of words. Thank you, B ❤❤
For editing software - if you havent already found a solution I like DaVinci Resolve if you are editing on a computer for professional level edits. it's free with tutorials on the website that were very rich in tools and information :D
@BKupchuck57 thank you for the feedback. I use Davinci Resolve, the paid version, I just need not to create effects until after I’m done editing.
My husband got laid off 5 days after I had our second baby. And they tried to “erase” him as an employee. We tried to get state benefits/ unemployment, but they said he was never an employee. Thank the Lord I save EVERY ONE of his paystubs. 😂🎉 Their company went out of business shortly after! 😅 👀
How can they even remotely think they’ll get away with erasing an employee?!
I couldn’t get unemployment my former boss lied and said I had quit because of my illness. I even called the labor department and reported her. Thank goodness I was able to find another job. It came back on her. Her next business failed .
@@onyourraedar when DSHS called us to verify him being laid off they said he never was employed with them. And they had no clue who he was 🤦🏽♀️ a crooked company!
@@lymarie1974 What goes around comes around eventually! There are some evil people in this world. 😔
Oh wow smh
Another reason why company loyalty should not be a thing unless it's your company.
Facts
😂 as if employees are loyal…as soon as a better deal comes they’re right out the door so …it just depends who has the control in the dynamics
Ive been on both sides and employees abuse just as much as the companies when having leverage
@@l_a_u_y8916 Going where you can be paid better and expand your horizons has nothing to do with loyalty. That’s just good business sense. Anyone who truly supports YOU and not just what you do for them will champion your having opportunities.
@@l_a_u_y8916
I was only loyal in the military. Every other job was just to pay bills.
@@l_a_u_y8916not necessarily true. People used to stay due to culture/comfortability. This generation has learned that in the end; it screws them over.
Im under the belief, if you are good worker, there is nothing you can do to prevent getting laid off. If the time comes, they will cut you regardless of your output or sacrifices
It's true.
Fact. It about their bottom line not ours 😢
Especially if you are at that dangerous age where you have plenty of experience, but they think they can train someone younger than you to do your job for less money, or worse, expect everyone else on your team to just absorb your job duties. Never ever believe they are your friends or will look out for you as you age. They won’t. This includes higher paying jobs. Trust me, I know. You have to find ways to make yourself valuable, but that still might not be enough when new owners come in, new structuring happens, etc. yadda yadda. The non profit sector is just as cut throat if not worse than other sectors.
True. Look up what a " right to work state" means.
My state is a "right to work" state, non union, (though there are a few like Disney has, but they mostly tell employees the laws, like if you would qualify for FMLA ) it also means a company has the right to fire. As long as it's not discriminatory. No notice is needed on either end. Also references for like : yes Mr Smith worked for us from ... to...
For most big companies when another asks for a referral: nothing is said about performance or anything. Mostly, every company has that policy.
It's just basically employment verification. They don't want to get into trouble saying too much.
@keytyper4296 yep often called "restructuring" very very true!!
As someone who was cut during the holidays it sucks. It dehumanizing because when you try to find a new job nobody wants to hire you. Having no money in your bank account sucks. 2024 is a terrible year for those who are also going through this.
Truly is dehumanizing. I think it’s worse when you’re told “it’s nothing to do with you or your performance”. This topic just makes me sad.
@@BusiswaGit really bad
"Dehumanizing"
You are a wage slave sweetie.
My husband lost his job in March, I lost my job in May. They denied his unemployment and it took 6 months to find a job. Yea it was a terrible year.
@@thainiatinopcin752 And no one talks about how dehumanizing it is to have to “prove” you need assistance with bills and having to wait for weeks while you’re still totally skint to see if you qualify for the help you needed from the day that you applied for it. I’m not in this situation presently, but those memories do not fade.
A few years ago, my boy got laid off the week before Thanksgiving. Luckily for him, he was still living with his mom. Unfortunately, everyone doesn't have a support system to rely on.
That's the one thing I'm thankful for. Today I found out my cleaning contracts won't be renewed and Monday is my last day. Literally half of my income has been slashed. I have two big dogs that have medical needs Monday. One of them has surgery 😫🤧 If it wasn't for the fact that I recently moved in with my parents, I would be going absolutely insane right now
Exactly, I’m 20 and about to be kicked out on my own with less than 1k in my account
The audacity of some of these companies to ask the person theyre firing to basically help the person/people that are replacing them is crazy work.
They would have NEVER heard from me again. I would have closed my laptop and blocked them
Be careful who you train. Don't teach them everything.
Fairly common in corporate unless your position is redundant. If that's the case, there's most likely someone else with similar responsibilities to you, and therefore training of a new person/different team is not necessary. IT will give them access to your files, etc.
@@tiwainashandalol you will foot the bill for that laptop but I feel you
My last employer wrote in the reasoning that I was getting fired- I didn’t write down my exact job description and the time management of the position.
I had worked there 18! years at that company!
No. I did not write down a cheat sheet for the person replacing ME!
18:57 I feel for him. As a project manager I had a job for 18 months and in December 2023 after developing new SOPS processes onboarding all of their teams onto a project management platform they cut my job position and didn’t need me anymore and asked me to stay to help them with any tips and tricks for my offboarding. I said no, that’s no longer my job? When they asked me to make a power point presentation of all of my processes “for future PMs and training purposes” i said absolutely not and deleted everything from my computer
Good for you! If they are trying to squeeze every last bit of work out of someone they have laid off --- sorry! That's for your actual employees. 🤣
Wow that's ballsy on them
@@spokenwordpoetries they had me f’d up they had the wrong one all professionalism off every question they asked me that last 2 days my answer was “idk and I’m not sure or refer to this free online resource ” and by Friday I was like hey I’m just not gonna come on Monday 😂
@@spokenwordpoetries “if you want my personal or professional opinion you can pay me $100/hr for consulting since I’m no longer an employee .” That really pissed them off on my last day. Never let them see you cry! I basically laughed in their face after being laid off
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
As someone who was laid off in October this year out of the blue. Thank you for sharing these experiences. It makes me feel a lot better about how I handled my own lay off seeing how others handled theirs. I guilted myself for being too harsh and too emotional during the initial reaction but this has given me clarity. To anyone else who has been laid off recently, it gets better. Just take it one day at a time. I am now 4 week into a new position (9 weeks post lay off)and I now only see what a HUGE benefit this has been to me. Sending hugs to anyone who needs them. 💗
Our company laid off a lot of people last week. I feel both blessed that I was one of the only people in my half of the company kept, but I'm also sad for the amazing team members I lost. I am glad that they offered them at least severance and paid for them to relocate if they needed to, one of my co-workers laid off decided to move back to their home state to be with family and the agreed to pay those costs, I was shocked by that but in a good way.
Wow. When I got laid off last year I just got booted out the door so fast my head spin, no extra anything.
@juleslynn476 Sadly, I think it is because I work law. We have HR afraid of possible lawsuits coupled with a huge budget for benefits. Our contracters got nothing though, they just ended their contracts. It's very unbalanced and absolutely because certain jobs get treated better in the USA, even though we all deserve a living wage. But unlike a lot of my peers or unlike all my C suite I worked my way up from poverty working while in college and most of them started with wealth. I feel like caring for long term employees should be a standard.
Got fired 90 days after I was employed at the top of 2024. Ive never been fired before and that was one of the most depressing periods of my life. Especially when you’re applying for jobs and they don’t hire you either. If it wasn’t for Gods grace and love and support from my friends, I wouldn’t have made it through. Also, it’s usually NEVER your fault, it’s budget cuts, position changing, lack of “performance” (even thought they want you to do a 3 man job in one day), and etc.
It is the scrip reading for me. When these layouts happen people always remember how it was handled.
This is extremely harmful for people can ya at least wait until January! I give notice because of my clients, I'm a mental health worker so I like to give my clients and my team time. Unfortunately though as an at will employee we're never really safe from being fired or laid off at any at will employer. Hope everyone who's experiencing this right now find a job asap! 💗
Thank you for this ❤️
My company did both. Jan 2024 and then again in Nov 2024. They are savage af. I have conspiracies about HR cause they were given a lot of power and influence during the "restructuring ".
And companies wonder why employee loyalty is plummeting 🤷🏼♀️
That’s not true because of how hard it is to get a job, people are actually staying
@@Steste561we are staying but we are miserable lol
@@Steste561that isn’t loyalty that’s having no other options. If folks had the option to leave they would=not loyal
This is why at a young age, I knew I wanted to study towards something with job security. I got a vocational degree and a license to practice which greatly decreases competition as it isn't a broad office job with entry level training to various types of graduates.
This means that the number of practitioners is very small. Thankfully, I didn't even need an interview, I still consistently get emails of people asking _me_ if I can switch to work for them.
I planned this ahead in my teens mainly due to growing up in a poor environment. Study and work in an area where your work will be appreciated!! Specialise as much as you can!
What is your occupation?
I made a similar decision. I've been laid off twice (once during the holidays!) but both times I've had a new job by the end of the week.
@@lymarie1974 Audiologist. It requires a doctorate in the US but you can get a Hearing Instrument Specialist license with a lesser degree.
In other places like Canada, Australia, New Zealand UK, UAE and Europe( basically the rest of the world lol) you need just a Bachelors.
It’s a nice and fulfilling job, good work like balance, you have your own consultation office no need to run around noisy clinic floors, excellent salary and very happy people who can communicate with loved ones again. (Does have its stresses too of course, it’s a headache to study!)
Healthcare is always in demand but particularly this area isn’t mainstream for applicants so it’s even more in demand.
No one really jumps to the thought of dispensing hearing aids as a career as much as dispensing glasses as an Optician which is a more popular career choice for example.
I went into health care at 18(2002) , right after high school. I became a CNA . After working the job at nursing facilities, for some years, I knew that getting layoff would be pretty much nonexistent as they ALWAYS need care, always short staffed. I loved what I was doing and continued from there to other similar positions with the same outcome. The only time I saw people get let go was because of their own doing, either never showing up, abusing the residents. Iam still in the similar position just now a home care giver and I focus on just one client. I love it.
The first woman sound like she was being laid off by an AI bot.
Right! I’m sure it was an accent thing but my goodness, just sad.
Lmao no seriously 😂 monotone no emotion at all
I thought that as well
Japanese accent I think
I got laid off, but thankfully the next month I found a better job ❤
I only put in a 2 week notice if I have had mutual respect with the company and would like a referral if not when I say I'm gone I'm gone. If the company doesn't respect me then they don't deserve the respect back. I've only quit on places that were actively screwing me over or made me feel unsafe.
I can also see some people quitting because they no longer trust a company that “randomly” fired a bunch of folks.
@BusiswaG that's true too some people would rather cut themselves off than let a company cut them off
I quit a job, and the boss had a melt down and told me I couldn’t quit before transferring the call to a manager to handle. Which, I told her the same thing and refused to do a 2 weeks. The company I worked for had a high turn over rate due to unprofessionalism, and I truly did my best to stick it out for as long as I could, but towards the end it really made me think how messed up it is that companies can be so awful, but expect employee loyalty, so that’s why when I quit, I didn’t care and didn’t offer 2 weeks. These companies get what they give 🤷♀️
Only one job I quit with no 2 weeks heads up. The other jobs, I had put in my 2 weeks, went on vacation for a week, and then worked a week. Not sure what I’m going to do about my current job, but I’m not going to hit my 7th year with them.
EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN LAID OFF: please take this time to take care of yourself and reconnect with yourself and loved ones. Yes getting laid off is scary but it is also a break. A chance to restart. Speaking from someone who was recently laid off, give yourself a break. You deserve it! Please know the best is yet to come for you💜
Its okay to take a break when you can afford it.. not when you have plenty of bills 🤦♀️
I feel this. Sometimes getting laid off or fired is the opportunity for something better to come your way. It never feels like that at the time, but once you’ve had time to recover, hindsight is always 20/20.
The unknown is always scary, especially with prices the way they are these days, so I get why people freak out over it.
I am in a situation where I paid every dime to keep our lights on and I have nothing to celebrate Christmas with, nothing to give my children. We don’t even have a tree but honestly I have been through these thing’s and for anyone going through something like being laid off and just finding it so difficult to understand why this is happening to you and your babies you must stay strong and keep faith that God will show up for us and he will bring us through and even though it seems so dark and hard to see any light at the end of this tunnel I do believe it’s there and you aren’t alone and you are worthy if having what you need and the time will come! I am sending you all my love❤
@@HollyHarrelson777damn girl is ONE period in this entire paragraph 😭😭
I have both quitted without giving my notice and giving a 2 MONTH notice. You look out for your employees, I look out for you. Loyalty is a 2-way road, I think companies forget that.
This is gonna sound super extreme but:
I hate how these companies are saying "I'm sorry" when laying people off - especially prior to the holidays. These people worked their ASSES off and were just thrown out like rag dolls, like TRASH.
They're NOT sorry, not a LICK. They're just sorry for themselves for having to put themselves through this, having to listen to sobbing, swearing, stories about how they were trying to buy houses, were struggling to live, have kids, and the like. They're not sorry for the employees who dedicated themselves to these jobs, only to be treated like dog poo - picked up and thrown away. They'd only be sorry if someone arrived to their home and set it on fire!
The fact that this isn't even the company themselves giving the news, it's a third party!! At least if my boss said "I'm sorry, we're letting X go", I could take that better than some random name from HR who probably twisted their arm and threatened their own job if they didn't make it official.
I'm not even speaking from experience I had (never laid off, just left volunteer work and graduated from a program to get me job experience), just from what I'm seeing in these clips - it's a repeated experience!!
It’s not extreme. It’s the truth. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they did it to add insult to injury with the games these companies play. I’ve never been laid off either, but I noticed a similar pattern and it’s why I refuse to let a job play me like that.
I work in the public sector now so I do give at least two weeks notice when I've left. But when I worked for corporations, I did give notice until I gave notice for one job and I showed up the next day and wasn't able to clock in, was locked out of all social apps without anyone saying anything to me. They completely blindsided me and then expected me to send their equipment back, which I didn't. My next corporate job i have 4 days notice because my direct manager was an absolute a-hole. Now I am never leaving the public sector again because at least I have more protections as an employee than working with private companies.
I watched a video where a gentleman did give his two weeks notice and the company two days later told him they did not have to honor it and just let him go
I got laid off in Jan 2021. And haven't worked a job since. I got diagnosed as adhd and autistic so I started focusing on myself rather than give all my energy to companies who could care less about you. I am lucky enough to get some services through the state I live in and I sell things to earn an income (even if it's not much).
I don't think anyone should be laid off during the holiday season. That is the shittiest thing to do. It's one thing when it is lazy workers, but a good chunk of people, that get fired, are hard working people that do not deserve this.
There is no good time of the year to lose a job. Holidays or not. The bills still will come
@@lymarie1974 That part. This is one of those things where you have to accept it, and move accordingly. Also keep your eyes out for potential jobs, and always pour into your savings account so you’ll have a cushion until you find another job. The grocery store by my house is closing at the end of December. A lot of people will lose their jobs, but many have second jobs or will transfer to a different location because of their position, so also check into if you job will offer alternative employment. It’s all about being prepared.
Same - I just think about the general depression and loneliness around the holidays for millions of people, and how anyone with Sue-of-side-Al ideation, losing their job would just amplify that
I did not give them a 2 weeks notice. I gave them 3 days. If they can easily lay off my co workers without any warning, they can deal with me leaving early. They wanted to cut costs, so I did not feel bad.
In California, companies get taxed for every unemployment claim filed. The company took me to EDD court, but I won. I was not the only one; my old co workers took them to civil court for inhumane working conditions. That company left a bitter taste, and I am glad that company failed and to sell themselves off.
This is brutal. That last one was harsh to watch. The whole build up of what a wonderful employee he was and what a great job he's been doing, and then to be met with a bunch of gibberish about how the role will be diverted or whatever. Just spit it out and say, "you're fired!" Trump made those words famous, just be clear and direct. When you try to use flowery language to soften the blow, you're just increasing the anxiety and creating confusion. This poor guy looked so confused, like they were going to cancel his position with the company but transfer him to doing the same job (since he was so good at it) but working at a branch location. That was just cruel. It's downright cruel. I know corporations don't care, but dang, this is just nuts!
I can’t stand flowery language, or the sandwich method for that matter. Be firm, and state your piece cuz all that talk just makes people feel worse like when someone talks in a fake cheery/ condescending tone when reprimanding you.
@@tiahnarodriguez3809 Yeah, we were taught the sandwich method as well. It sucks as there's no "good" way to fire someone and make it smooth.
I was laid off at the beginning of November, its been rough. I was definitely blind sided since I was with them for more than 5 years. Dehumanizing. But I'm trying to take it as a blessing in disguise. I pray everyone going through the same is able to heal and move forward.
4:20 Yes, there is. It's not an exact template that every company uses, but they all have the same key features. Don't apologize because that makes you/the company look at fault, tell them you empathize with them instead, etc. In my unfortunate experience, we were given a literal script to read and once that was read and done with to cover the company's ass we could have an actual human conversation.
I don't give notice anymore. A relative did recently and the same day she gave notice, supervisor let her go. Worse, she had to turn in the company truck immediately and have no ride home.
Just sick. The business doesn’t have to honor the two weeks. But we are told we Have too?
@@lymarie1974 We def don’t. There is no law stating it, and even if you do honor it. There’s no guarantee the job will be your reference or honor your 2 weeks. It’s a gamble doing things the right way, so we have to use discernment and take the L’s as they come.
Straight to jail for that company. Wtf? This is what I consistently tell people: these businesses don’t care about you at all, so don’t bother doing the right thing. I know in my state, they can’t legally disparage you if you use them as a reference. They can answer the questions the potential job is asking, regarding if you showed up on time, if you had good attendance, etc. It can be opinion based, but it must be based in FACT. So they would have to have documentation to cover their ass if they want to drag you to a new employer. Any employment attorney would wipe the floor with them otherwise.
This exists so a previous boss can’t let their personal opinions color a new hiring manager’s decision. We all know some folks are petty just because.
I was told as a THERAPIST that the agency that I worked for needed a 30-day notice or else they would report us to the board. I told those people and they terminated my position within a few days and one day before Thanksgiving! And they use a VERY similar script, not offering support. God has waken me up to these jobs, and I seriously want financial freedom and want out of this rabbit hole.
I work in HR and have been laid off before. It was during the pandemic and it was scary in the moment. Now, I can laugh about it. I honestly just got a random meeting on my calendar. I thought nothing about it and was crying by the end. I’m so glad I had my camera turned off. I did get severance and was able to get another job in January 2021. At the end of the day, they are going to do what’s best for them.
My worst being laid off experience is when the GameStop I worked at just got a new manager and he laid me off over the phone without even meeting me
😮 Daaaammmnnn....
Put a girl on
Wow this video really resonates with me. I was laid off two weeks ago on Nov 30 after 5 years at a nonprofit. I didn’t see it coming, no laid offs or budget cuts were mentioned at all this year then boom right before the holidays 😢
I’d rather be laid off directly and no fake compassion after just say I’m fired and hang up because I’ll start yelling if I get some fake bs “we are so sorry”
Honestly same, don't pull me into a meeting and say how sorry you are. You're not sorry, you're doing what you want and will forget I exist is 5 minutes. Just tell me I'm done, give me the paperwork and leave me alone. It's such a waste of time being that insincere
It can happen to anyone at anytime. Its best to think of negotiations while u have a clear head and put it aside (written down, not stored on PC) as the best time to negotiate is during the departure speech, not after youve left and ur communicating via email and definitely BEFORE u sign anything!
Letter of recommendation (really u should get this and keep an updated version from several key ppl during ur employment not departure), pay, insurance, etc. Know ur needs and speak up for urself. Its just business afterall 🤷🏽♀️
I give appropriate notice so I can keep all of my PTO and matched 401k.
When I get laid off some day from my corporate job and get that meeting invite, I'm going to select "propose new time" and set the meeting for 2 years in the future just to fuck with them
😂😂😂😂😂
Lmfaoooo😂
I just want to say I love your videos. Also I'm very blessed to have a good boss and coworkers. I opened up about my past drug addiction to them and having to cope with cravings and my 2 year old son. I will say when you do meth, ect and you quit. Anything that stresses you will trigger and my family and friends and coworkers and boss are so supportive. I've never had a job before so this is new to me with having a job. But I keep getting told I'm lucky to have a good boss. She is the sweetest and the most understanding. I love her too death and my coworkers. They all support me and help me through my hard times. It's possible to find a good boss. They usually come when you least expect it.
Congrats on your journey.
Be careful with opening up like this cuz your boss and co-workers can and will use this info against you if things change.
@ very true.
Although there’s no “good” time, I can’t tell which is harsher:
1. Before the holidays - a tough blow during a time of celebration
2. After the holidays - when you may be trying to pay off holiday celebrations and gifts. Maybe you spent differently.
Imo, after the holidays for the reason you said. I’d rather be fired during so I can budget accordingly.
@@tiahnarodriguez3809 I think so too (although it all sucks! 😩). I had a friend who had just bought a car two weeks prior. It was rough.
It depends on the company. If I have good rapport and there might be a possibility of me getting rehired again, I do a 2 weeks notice. I even did it for a part time seasonal job I had. I liked them so much, I gave them my 2 weeks because they told me I would be rehired if I ever needed the job again. I only burn bridges with companies I’m not interested inin getting rehired lol.
I haven’t had many jobs. But my first job, they were nice people so I gave them a two weeks notice. The job I had during the summer……….. chilleeeee. They didn’t get a two weeks notice because there were some things that happened and I didn’t feel like they deserved it. 🤷🏾♀️
I've been there(plant closing eliminating over 300 jobs) and wouldn't wish that feeling on my worst enemy. But they got us all together in a big room and told us all at one time. My deepest sympathy to anyone who goes through that.
I like how she acknowledged his development of new systems and methods that proved effective for the company with praise that indicates the plan of continuing to use HIS systems while not only stil firing him, but not offering compensation for systems he implemented that - had they paid an independent consultant or firm - they would have paid thousands for. He should sue them.
I give and work my two weeks even in a toxic environment. I feel that is a reflection of my integrity and my work ethic.
Thank you!
Some places I gave two weeks, but then they let me go before the two weeks were up! So why bother? Fortunately I'm retired, but I can tell you that there is no reason to be loyal to a company that has no loyalty to you.
I work in HR. I was working in digital marketing and I felt a layoff coming cause others had been laid off so i swiftlyyyyy found another job and quit as soon as I got the offer letter from my now job. Another thing is that I got license in massage therapy just in case and I keep it active in the event I ever get laid off and I also monetize my social medias to help a little bit. I learned to be quick on my toes and I’m glad I haven’t had to lay someone off in the 2 years I’ve been in HR
I just dip at this point. After suffering with bullying, horrible hr, ect. Nah, 9/10 I quit effective immediately.
The HR people responding to these people crying while getting fired in such a monotone way like “can I move on to the next person to layoff before I lose my job?….”😭😭😭😭
The 2nd lay off video was so callous! They were so matter of fact and blunt and they bulldozed through that. My prayers for everyone who is facing these circumstances
Never ever give 2 weeks notice. If you are leaving and you need the money keep your mouth shut and just work the two weeks. Give your notice on your last day and if you have accrued vacation due include what is due and when you expect to receive it.
Good luck
This is usually how it happens... Historically so. It's all about the bottom line. People don't matter.
Oh this hurts my heart. Life is hard enough and even working some jobs that don’t pay you your worth, or you have kids or health issues and need the health insurance. My prayers and love go out to those who have been laid off and who are looking for employment. It will all work out the way it’s supposed to 🙏🏾
This happened at my dad’s work recently. A guy who was a manager wasn’t doing so well though he was fine before he was promoted to manager. Instead of waiting until after the holidays or demoting him they just fired him. He even has a baby on the way.
I wouldn’t be able to stay. There’s no way. I also didn’t give 2 wks at my last job, but prior to that I always gave notice and helped in any way I could
This happened to me…it came out of nowhere and it took me a long time to recover emotionally. I was there for 10 years and the only one made to work through the pandemic on site, while everyone else worked at home.
They just laid my fiancé off a week ago and it came out of nowhere. Awful awful could have waited until the 31st!
My mother is HR, and did the one thing no one else wanted to do.
Fire you.
Around this time every year she always got extra presents and people were always trying to be on her good side. Even sucked up to my brother and I. We never got why just thought people liked us lol nope. They were scared and wanted to keep their jobs.
My mother hates impersonal lay offs though. Big corporations do this and yes…they do have templates.
I'm one of those elder millinials that learned to "always leave on good terms because you never know...." bla bla bla. So I've *tried* to honor the courtesy of giving at least two weeks. But - toxic environments don't get that option. At a former job, I walked in before hours, placed a resignation letter on the supervisor's desk, and walked out, never to see any of those psychos again. But it also depends on when the new employer wants me to start. At that point, I'm on team "NEW JOB" so if they need me to start next week, next week it is. I'm in an at-will state!
Same. When I was younger, I did the 2 weeks cuz I thought I had to, then I had enough of jobs doing me dirty, so I sent a note with my uniform or did a quick phone call, I quit”, and that was the end of it. I’m only loyal to those who are loyal to me. I’ve worked jobs where I was treated decently so I paid that back, but other than that. You get what you give me
I worked at a grocery store and it was hell on earth. I only worked there for about 6 months but I shocked myself that I stayed that long. We had a manager that thought it was okay to treat women like objects. Sex objects even. If there was an employee he thought was attractive he’d let the rest of us know. He didn’t care that none of us women felt safe around him and neither did HR. The last couple of weeks I worked there I looked for a new job on my days off. Which thankfully didn’t take long. About a week before I started the new job I took even more records of what I’d seen, heard and had said to my face. The one time I willfully chose to disobey the no cellphones rule we had I recorded a couple of conversations that I had with him. That was the last day I was there. I told him I wasn’t coming back the next day and I’d be back to pick up my final paycheck in a couple of weeks. Then I turned the recordings over to HR so they’d know none of us were lying when we told them what that creep said to us. He got fired without severance.
@@mcrchickenluvr You dropped this: 👑
Seriously though, awesome turn of events. Good for you for getting your lick in and preventing him from continuing that pattern of behavior unchecked.
I didn't have a chance to comment before your stream issue yesterday. I'm glad it is back!!! 💓 I wanted to say...As far as the 2 week notice... I suggest it to be professional when it comes to certain jobs. For example, the company I work for now. I left to be a school bus driver full time and I do love this job. I wouldn't be able to balance both. After a year, I was able to come back part time to subsidize my income. Then I was offered a promotion and I left working for the schools to be a full time manager ( Best decision I have ever made for my mental health) With that being said .. There have been jobs that were so toxic that I left for lunch, left a message with the office manager that I will not be returning. Big companies don't give 2 weeks notice when they fire you or lay you off.. Unless you are really planning on coming back to a specific job.. It's up to you how you want to cut ties
@4:15 I work in HR, and yes, it's most of the time a script to follow to lay people off, especially if they are having that conversation with multiple people in a short period of time this ensures everyone gets the same message and the company can't be sued if they are saying the same thing
The way they let these people go is just terrible. I feel so bad for them. 💔😢 Especially during the holidays.
Ive been unemployed since May. I was being treated unfairly so i resigned with over 1 month notice.... they then fired methe first day back after a piece of ceiling fell on me and i was on workers comp . Lol ironically it was a non profit
A piece of the ceiling?! My God, I hope you’re okay!
I still put my two weeks in. I just like having my T's crossed and my I's dotted. When I was young, I got laid off, and I was upset about it, but it changed my point of view. I never put my all in any company, I keep my eye on the job boards, and I started stashing money aside. All easier said than done, it didn't take me overnight. The realization that hit me is that these companies don't owe me anything, and I need to look out for myself. Yes, companies don't care, and they don't have to, and you shouldn't look at them to.
I hate that it is still happening to people. If you walk into a meeting with HR there, get ready 'cause it's your turn. If it hurts, try not to associate your value with who you work for, make sure you've backed up your contacts (although your former coworkers may not want to talk to you after you've gotten laid off if they haven't), and have a 2nd stream of income next time. No one is indispensible.
It's crazy how they say "You did X amazing thing for the company that we couldn't do without BUT..." I saved many jobs and tons of money for the environmental organization I work for when Covid happened and they fed me that bs when they informed me I'd be laid off recently.
My first job, I was told, “well, we managed without you”… several months later I got a call asking if I was interested in working there again 💀. I said no.
@tiahnarodriguez3809 That's so nasty. They got what they deserve. I can't wait to see what happens without my supervisor (who they also laid off) and myself. The org is circling the drain and those decisions are just gonna make it happen that much quicker. Smh.
As an HR professional, the last woman (she might not have been HR but would have at least gotten management training) is absolutely terrible. Poor guy was confused for 5 minutes if he was keeping his job or not. The way to do it is be clear, concise, and sympathetic. Answer any questions they may have but it just makes it worse when you dance around it. People deserve honesty and not bs.
That either was fake, or she’s one of those that likes to play around to make themselves feel less guilty about what they’re gonna do.
Dang I’m early! I just found your channel and have been BINGE watching every video lol 😂
Thanks for your content ! ❤
❤️ Welcome 🙏 I appreciate the support.
@@BusiswaG Of course! ❤🎉
I got laid off two weeks ago after 7 years on the job. Merry Christmas! Lol. No but I’m ok! I’m so over going into an office anyway.
I'm tired of people saying they've been out of work for 3 months, 6 months, etc.
Try being out of work for 13½ *years!*
I've been disabled since I was child. I LEGALLY couldn't work from age 0-15! I'm born & raised in the USA (Chicago) and in the USA, there's child labor laws in place to protect children from working! At one point, the law said a person cannot legally work until age 18. After however much time went by, the age dropped to 16! I started looking for a job AT 16! I got rejected from EVERY 👏 SINGLE 👏 PLACE I've ever applied to! *NO EXAGGERATION!*
I can't make that up! I never got a response and when I did, it was "we've decided to go with other candidates." 99% of the time, they'll ghost and say nothing at all! I don't even get interviews! If I do, they ask DISRESPECTFUL questions! They ask repetitive questions that have been answered MULTIPLE TIMES! They ask me to provide examples of shit THEY KNOW I DON'T HAVE! And again, I'M DISABLED! I've applied for jobs that are no longer in business. They're defunct! And yes, I've applied for disability, got denied, appealed the case, STILL got denied! I'm NOT supposed to be working, nor looking for work! They should be shutting the f*** up and giving me chance to work instead of discriminating against me when I never did a damn thing to them! It's ALWAYS BEEN this bad! ALWAYS! In 2025, it'll be 14 YEARS since I've been looking for a job! I'm even working with an employment specialist to help me find work and even they can't find anything!
Are you homeless? I'm so sorry 😢
I know multiple people who were laid off this holiday season. My heart goes out to everybody! We can say stuff like this happens all the time but given how many people I know and the fact that the time of the year it is. I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re finally seeing Those recession side effects 😢
Yep! Got laid off in March and it was the exact script. No severance or any warning. I was a manager and unfortunately for them, my whole team except one(who was a new outsourced hire) quit or put in their two weeks. Still searching for a job but have enjoyed being with my toddler more these last months.
My last corporate job fired me after I reported my boss for harassment. I was so fired up (no pun intended lol) I started my own business and now I make more than that mf and don’t have to deal with anyone not taking a serious claim seriously.
I know I could’ve sued but I was broke and they are a big company their lawyers would’ve had my head for lunch.
I got laid off 2 weeks before Thanksgiving this year.
Since it's Holiday season, a lot of places aren't hiring. Yes, job position are open but many businesses are waiting for January when the new quarter starts.
Those that are hiring for the season... I did consider it, but after walking around the mall and seeing how people act crazy around the Holidays. I feel for retail employees working during the holidays, I know I couldn't handle it.
Decided to take the remainder of the year off and not search for a job (thankfully, I am able to do so) but start searching January once the quarter starts.
True, the best retail jobs are being the online order fulfiller. Don’t need to talk to people 😂 I’d feel cruddy having to recommend a credit card to people and honestly, I’m not interested in the bad attitudes of many consumers, especially in my area. I have seen people go off on cashiers meanwhile the cashier didn’t even do anything.
Something else to keep in mind, fiscal quarters are important too Companies evaluate numbers as they are approaching the end of a fiscal quarter. Our vulnerable time is Q2 because work slows down. I will have to prove that my group has enough work to justify the number of people on my team or they will want to slash the funding or "positions." They never refer to it as "people."
As for 2 weeks notice. Yes, I generally give two weeks and it’s a good idea to give two weeks if you plan on using that employer or that boss as a reference. Plus, if you plan to work in an area where you will need any kind of clearance, you will also need to give 2 weeks notice or the constant action of simply leaving job after job with no notice will work against your clearance. But if you don't plan to work in a field like this and you don't plan to use the job(s) as a reference then it really doesn't matter.
ETA: I've been laid off several times. Yes I get it but I also do not want people to think that the only risky time is at the end of the year. Corporations operate on quarters.
I was just laid off last month as part of a mass layoff due to "corporate restructuring" 🙋🏽♀️ same deal, two weeks before Thanksgiving, a week after US elections. This was the 2nd round of layoffs, our company did the same thing in Jan 2023, and our Australia team was hit hard just a few months prior due to a failed acquisition. I had the privilege of knowing prior and wasn't as blindsided as some of my other coworkers (even though "restructuring" was announced to happen in Nov and they essentially said "your job will change or be eliminated"). I overheard a meeting with my boss where they said there would be "deep cuts" and since we're on a training team, and our software was on the list to go, my little 3 person team knew we were gone.
I feel like it was dragged out and handled very poorly, but the actual layoff was fairly direct (which I prefer). I literally slept through the group layoff meeting cause I was so over it, but still waiting on my severance since they kept us on the payroll until Dec 13. Reconnecting with former coworkers, it's sad to see everyone that was affected and blindsided, but I kinda feel for those who are still working cause the culture and morale is generally down. I know many that are looking for another job, so now us jobless have to compete with those folks as well for the slim pickings of the job market for skilled workers. I kinda treated it like a 3 week vacation cause my work/life balance was in the garbage, and I also ended my 8yr relationship the following week 🙃 so yeah, I'm just out here freeballing until I find a new gig lol. Doordash in the meantime cause I need to pay my rent somehow
I just cant with the script they read. I get it, they have to read it but when I got laid off they never even said the words 🤣🤣 I was just like huh?
The second video is crazy, she seemed to happy and cheerful then jumped right into it 😭😭 They’re smart to hop off the call and switch to HR, cuz the First Lady would get my first reaction
Yup I work in HR and that lady was reading the typical script that companies give when they are laying people off. What's so disturbing to me is how much it's really a slap in the face you go from complimenting people, but turning around and firing them any normal person is still going to think they did something wrong and to do this during the holidays is beyond diabolical.
I prefer more directness. That last one was hella annoying with the "winding down".
I have a 2 week notice once. That was because I was about to graduate from high school and I was starting college. The only reason I quit my job at the radio station was because I knew they wouldn’t be flexible with my class schedule. Every other time I’ve left a job my way of doing so depended on the company. If I was leaving on good terms, I let them know with plenty of advance notice. If it was a toxic work environment I’d find another job and let them know when I can start. Then inform my bosses that I wasn’t coming in the next day. I have been laid off before. It was when I worked at Mervyn’s. My store was told that we were going to be one of the lucky ones that was going to stay open. Then about a month before Christmas 2008 during our morning catch up we were informed that come December 28th, we were no longer going to have jobs. We kind of knew it was coming because that’s often what happens when a big company like that files for chapter 13 bankruptcy. If it would’ve been chapter 11 there would’ve been some wiggle room to keep some store open like Macy’s has.
My manager and even the manager just above her didn't find out about layoffs until the day they had to schedule and host the calls. I'm not sure what the reason for that was, you would think you'd want the managers to be aware in advance.
My sincerest hope for peace and safety and new paths of success for all in this coming year! 🙏❤️ Happy New Year to all, in spite of the messy ending!!
I put in a one week notice but I really wanted to dip. I was leaving on negative terms anyway. I had already found another job. My boss was trying to get me fired. She was sweet as pie my last week. In my goodbye card all she wrote was good luck. After I had been there 6 years.
19:52 Give me honesty or give me nothing at all
What she should have said is are you firing me because I'm pregnant even if she's not?
I'm not saying that women should abuse this law I'm just saying she should have seen their response
2 of my friends got laid off during their maternity leave. Unfortunately, with at-will employment, they can fire you at any time and there is nothing you can do about it. They don't need to give any reason and good luck proving it's because you're having or have recently had a kid ☹️
@indigo_azul That company is really taken the risk that she won't sue them and said its because she's pregnant and they won't have any proof otherwise I hope she speaks to an employment avocate
@@indigo_azul Yep, they don’t care and even if you have proof, they can just make up an excuse like you weren’t meeting company standards. It’s a huge con of at-will.
That second one was what most of my experiences have been. They add a meeting to the end of your day (one was midday), they give that generic speech, and, if you're fortunate enough to not be contract, some severence and insurance info. They turn off your creds while you're in that meeting. When I was laid off last November, as soon as they said why I pulled out my phone and started messaging people with info so if they didn't have my contact info I could get it to them, told my SO to come pick me up, and, frankly, stopped listening.
Not my first layoff but others were bawling and I was just trying to get out the door. I'd taken all my stuff home because I was not planning on being there much longer and we were moving offices anyways so I just had to take my bag and flit away.
Tbf, that layoff came at a very specific time for me. I had my adhd meds, I wasn't anemic, and my cpap had just kicked in. I was flying high. Lol Otherwise I may have been less peppy, too.
12:49 Oh I know it's not your fault..... No they chose to do the job where they get to fire people....
I didn’t give my last job two week notice. I gave them 1 day and dropped my vehicle off and work vehicle and took an uber home. I stopped caring. They won’t give you two weeks if they decide to fire you, why should I give them that much respect.
You dress like the lady in church that always has the good candy in her purse.
I prefer direct, the last woman was just messing with his emotions
I work for a very large auto parts company. We got notice last month that Advanced Auto Parts just pulled out of the west coast, leaving thousands of employees jobless before the holidays. All of this because last year’s quarter was short. Absolutely heart breaking, companies do not care about you, only the bottom dollar. 😢
And now we are screwed on bills. We barely have anything for the kids. It’s honestly hell. I’m the only one bringing in money now and I make half his paycheck. Not even maybe quarter. I also get paid every 2 weeks so it’s not nothing but it still screws us.
That's why it's important to have a 'side' career. There are certain jobs that would always be in demand. You can always do that casually as a safety net. When i started working i was so loyal and worked just 1 job. But i didn't like the anxiety i feel so now i have at least 3.
My first job laid me off on Easter day and i warned the manager not to do that to anybody else (if he'd heed lol)
I never ever give notice anymore, nope. Every time I’ve been laid off, it comes on the day of, so why would I provide advance notice and then not be able to fulfill those 2 weeks and then not get paid.
I literally quit my job last week and since we are such a small team I offered 30 days notice. It is always good to have a good relationship when you leave a job because it's nice to have the option of going back if all else fails. Plus it gives your next employer confidence that you won't just bounce on them and they could count on you even if it didn't work out.
This doesn’t always work, and I’d argue it doesn’t work for most. Your job could easily not honor your “2 weeks”, refuse to give you a recommendation despite you doing everything right, or refuse to re-hire you. It’s good to be professional, but it really depends on the company and the type of relationship you have with your boss. At the end of the day they owe you nothing and you’re at the mercy of their goodwill, so be smart about it.
I put in 2 weeks once next day couldn’t log in and they said since you’re resigning we went ahead and just let you go early. I was devastated and needed that last 2 weeks pay that I didn’t get. Never again. Get the next job before you quit this one and you won’t ever need them as a reference as long as you have other references to get you this next job. My next job thought it was so honorable that I put in 2 weeks but couldn’t take me 2 weeks early after hearing it and we just started at the planned onboarding time and my rent was late.
@tiahnarodriguez3809 yes, they could easily do all those awful things, but they they could just as easily honor it and be grateful of the grace period to find your replacement. Yes I agree that it's dependant on your relationship with the company. But in my 16 years of working across 6 jobs and 3 different fields, they have all appreciated the heads up. If you are putting in your two weeks, you should go in prepared for them to cut you short. I would go in with the idea that they are going to let me go and it would be a bonus if I got the two weeks. But I would still always recommend the two weeks notice minimum. Even if I submitted my notice on the day I was intending to make my final day if I know they are shady af and going to do me dirty. Which I would assume, after working there, I would have figured out.
@BabyKush420 yes. This is why I would recommend if you know your company is shady, put in your notice on your last intended day. Then if they accept you can just quit anyways if you already have the other job lined up. But if not, you have that cushion.
7:54 no,they don’t give us one
The second termination was so heartless. Their tone and everything.
So AT&T did this to me and hundreds of other Technicians right before Christmas of 2018. I was one of the highest performing techs in the garage, but they were eliminating jobs under apendex J. It felt like a ship sank that left hundreds of us abandoned in the water struggling against each other for hints and leads for other positions within the company. It was horrible and stressful. AT&T also opened up a call center in Mexico that year and got a huge tax break. Ma Bell isn't the old gal she used to be.
I've honestly, never worked and I've never had any kind of actual work-position experience however the bachelor's I got was in organizing courses, working with people and managing people in a workplace. And from what I still remember and simply a normal-human-attitude I feel like the last lady presented the news in the best way, didn't sound too sharp & cold and felt much more open to explain and accept conversation.
So if I ever get to that kind of situation - I'd rather have someone like her.
I got fired a week after getting my nursing license and moving into a new apartment. I didn’t get a new job willing to train me how I need for another 4 months 😂😂😂😂 I will never feel secure at any job again unless it’s my own business, we are dispensable and that’s why it’s important to always have a backup & savings!
