Good day sir and thank you for the shout out in the last Ghost reaction. I really liked this review. I'm gonna help you out with some extra information about this fantastic album. Opus Eponymous is Latin for self titled work. It was produced by Gene Walker. Gene Walker however doesn't exist And it's actually Tobias himself who produced the album. The drummer is Ludvig Kennberg. He also plays on Meliora and Prequelle. The bass player is Gustav Lindström. A long time friend of Tobias and the one who helped him out from the beginning when Tobias needed to record the demo of the first song ever written for Ghost "Satans Natt" which became "Stand By Him" on the record. The Cathedral on the album cover is the Cathedral of Linköping. A popular place to Visit for Ghost Fans and take pictures standing in front of. The first track Deus Culpa is really the Swedish psalm "Betlehems Stjärna" (The Star of Betlehem) played backwards and has for obvious reasons never been played live. About the vocals of Tobias youre actually quite right. Tobias never wanted to be the singer just the guitarist player and singing background vocals. So when he recorded the demos he imitated the Candlemass singer Messiah Marcolin:s singing style. Luckily for us he never got someone who wanted to do the singing on the recording of the album even that he asked a lot of people. So he did it himself instead and used the same type of singing as he did on the demos. Now over ten years later he actually sings much much better and is one of the best out there live. And just one more thing. Happy Birthday Tobias. He turns 42 today 🤘

Imagine being the singers that turned him down. "Actually Tobias, ya. I DO want to do it..." If he ever watches this- IM AVAILABLE!!!!!

I enjoyed the album review. I've never really felt the appeal of Death Knell myself, but a lot of the fandom really do enjoy it. Tobias never intended to be the lead singer of Ghost, but he couldn't find anyone else who would do it. His vocals ability has definitely improved over the years. A lot of the older tracks are often referred to as Satanic Scooby-Doo music, which I get. Each album has its own feel, so I can't wait to hear the next review.

"Satanic Scooby Doo Music" might be the best description Ive seen Yet. Thank you for watching.

Though it seems we have some different perceptions of the album, you put in the work and gave a solid review. As for Stand By Him, it's the first indication Ghost is NOT going to JUST be a doom metal thing. Tobias doesn't like to repeat himself too much. And he definitely shifts a bit more toward the theatrical side of metal on the next album.
Speaking of which, next up in the discography is my current favorite Ghost album. Followed by my next favorite Ghost album? They're very close. Granted, all five albums are solid with every song being good to great to me.
As for your observations about Death, I wouldn't be surprised considering Tobas' original passion (probably still is) was 80s death metal and that's why he started Repugnant, a clearly 80s influenced death metal band that ran through the late 90s & early 2000s. He was actively trying to restart it when Ghost blew up and Repugnant was finally buried in its wake.
    Anyway, 42ND HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Tobias!

Hahaha "Repugnant" I think I'm roughly the same age as Tobias, I had a death metal band called "Cornucopia" which means something about goat horns or something (which is also funny because I later played in a bluegrass/punk band called The Goat Boys)- real goat themes here. If he was into late 80's death metal he was certainly listening to DEATH. I think I'll scour the internet to try and find a quote or interview. Thanks for watching. Take good care.

@@colinlamb Yeah, no doubt. I came up with the same type of death metal and it's one of the reasons I've stuck with Carcass throughout the decades. They just fundamentally understand good songwriting.

For your information, Deus Culpa is actually a Swedish Christmas song (Gläns över sjö och strand) played backwards. You can find it on RUclips as well. It's a little bit funny, and I think it's quite brave to start their first album with that song. I have always thought it was a little bit strange, but when I realised it was that song played backwards, it all came clear! 😊

Thank you for that. Its nice to get some Swedish insight on this. On that note, can you recommend any great Swedish bands from the last 10 years that the rest of the world is just missing out on?

@Colin Lamb AKA: The Tone Wizard I'm not sure if the world missing out Sabaton. But however, that is a great Swedish band with their roots in power metal and all of their songs is about military history. Otherwise, I'm weak for The Hellacopters and In flames.
Keep up the good reactions! 👍

Actually Tobias speaks perfect English and doesn't have a Swedish accent. If you didn't know he was from Sweden you'd think he was American.

I can hear it subtly with his enunciation. It doesn’t bother me in any way and makes it a bit more interesting. But I do wonder what it’s like to sing in a different language.
