My wife and I were on the last retreat and are now in the process of buying and designing our Vilca home. I’ll echo what Brandon said, we feel extremely lucky to have fallen into the Abundant Living rabbit hole while doing our research. I recommend anyone interested in this area do the same. On a totally unrelated point thought - there appears some serious biceptual dichotomy happening within the AB team now. Just sayin!

The best advice I can give is to learn the language.
I’m taking for my own experience my wife is gringa that speaks Spanish very well
And she can get stuff done there faster than anyone at the moment she speaks to them everyone wants to talk to her and they go out of the way to help her.
That's right, it's very helpful to know Spanish when living in Vilcabamba. While it's not necessary, it is helpful. Thanks for tuning in.
What do you guys think will be the effects of the increasing economic and crime problems on the growth of expats in Vilcabamba etc ? Is political instability on the horizon because of the impeachment as well?

Hey Kelly, we have not experienced any violence here in Loja/Vilcabamba. It's really just those isolated events on the coast. We love the Ecuadorian people whom we live around in the Loja province. Whatever is being reported on by news outlets does not impact us here in the slightest.

As I'm very sure you know, my very old continent, is now showing us all, how she really is (as if we didn't know) and, it sure aint nice...child sex trafficking in plain sight (Maxwell-way) and all + thousands of other bizarre "happenings" and, Ecuador and you all, already feels like heaven 😊.
I just spent 9 days in Palermo, Sicily, ran into other Americans who assured me, they will follow straight after me..

Great video, Gentlemen. We’re making plans to come down in June for a few weeks. Do you know off-hand if it’s cheaper to book flights through a travel agent in Ecuador than just online from here in the states? When traveling back and forth between Turkey I’ve found that to be the case.

Hey Brian, that's great to hear. We are planning to have a retreat in June...not final dates, but we are tentatively thinking June 16th-25th. It would be neat to have you guys join us for that if it's in the cards for you. I have always used Google Flights to help me find the best airfare in traveling to EC. I'm not sure how well the travel agencies find the best rates. If you're looking for help in travel logistics, then a travel agency will be a great option. Hey Liz, we will release the official retreat dates for 2023 here very soon. We have a preliminary retreat scheduled for June 16th-25th. However, it is not finalized...so don't book a trip based on those dates quite yet. We hope you can make it down to see us.

In regards to the varied political views, do you mean the locals, or are you referring to the type of expats settling in Vilcambamba? And as one of those type-A folks with to do lists and longterm goals, I'm looking forward to releasing my US-ingrained workaholic tendencies! LOL Great video (and the lovely green scenery!), but I had to use earbuds in order to hear even at max volume.

One of my reasons for leaving the US is escaping the politics and extreme views, but I know people don’t turn off their beliefs (or mouths LOL) just because they change locations. Luckily I have no problem just smiling and walking away. 😆 But it will be great getting to know folks who have the courage to actually get up and go, when many others sit in place and gripe! ❤️

Not as "streamlined/" Ecuadorians lack basic organizational skills. Why not have 10 people doing a job when two or three will do? Ten or fifteen minutes late? You're being very generous.
Not only Ecuadorian are like that go to the Dominican Republic, and you'll see how things are there😅
Thanks for the great info. I have a question. Is the whole tinfoil conspiracy thing just in Vilcambamba, or is it all of Equador? Also, are these tinfoil people the Ecuadorian natives or are they Expats? We have conspiracy people on both sides of us in the States and thats what we are looking to ESCAPE from. It's hard to have a conversation when you can't agree on what "is" is Some of our friends are now too far down the rabbit hole also. An opinion isn't reality but there has to be some agreed upon reality in order to find common ground. If I'm wearing a shirt then it's a shirt. You can have an opinion on whether it's a nice shirt or an ugly shirt. I'm fine with that. The problem starts when you tell me that my shirt isn't a shirt, it's a kimono. If that's the case, I would prefer that you refrain from commenting on my "kimono" at all.
I'd say steer clear of Vilca if you want to get away from that, other parts of Ecuador would be more suitable.

How's Ecuador with gay men?
Ecuador is a very accepting/tolerant society for everything, not politically correct, but there is essentially no hatred here of any 'groups'. That being said, at least in the mountains, it is also a modest, polite, formal, reserved, conservative culture as well. Hope that helps.
