Can not thank you enough after a very frustrating 2 days of searching internet to find out how to sort timing on my frister rossmann i found your video and 5 mins later my baby was running better than it had for a long time. You deserve a medal
This was so helpful! I really appreciate the clear explanation. I already spent $100 to have my $200 serger fixed once, issue was timing was off, makes no sense to spend that kind of money again. Thank you for helping me help myself! And you know what? 8 years after you posted this video there still aren’t good videos about loopers and timing…yours is the best I’ve seen!
Thank you so much, please post this video on social media and everywhere you can, so many more can repair their sergers without throwing away their old ones. Years later most people haven’t seen this and still have the same problems. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 !
Thank you Jasmine, this video was so helpful! My serger was not chaining but after watching your video, I realized the lower looper was passing in front of the needle and not behind... and after a bit more fiddling I figured out that the loopers were actually fine, it was the needle... it was not fully tightened into its spot and so was angling in slightly the wrong direction... after tightening it up and securing it fully, it is going in front of the lower looper once more and I have chaining! Sooo happy for your video, saved me a trip to the repair shop (which probably would have cost me $90 to figure out the same thing). Thank you!!
+I Heart Stitch Art Hello, I was wondering, what type of machine do you use? My lower looper passes in front of the needle and I cannot find an obvious way to adjust it like this video shows. I use a Brother 1034D and am wondering if it is supposed to be like that or not.
Thank you both! I was so sure that my serger's timing was off, and was getting ready to go see a repair tech. After reading this comment, I decided to check the one needle that was striking the upper looper. Lo and behold, I had inserted a round shank needle istead of a flat shank! Problem solved! There's gold in the comments. 😊
Jasmine -- Your explanation and your slow and careful visual were the MOST helpful of any that I found. You made sure that everything was very visible and that you spoke slowly and simply as you worked. I haven't tried doing any of this yet, but you gave me the confidence I need to get in there and wiggle things around. Thank you!
Jasmine thank you, thank you. I am working on a fashion show. All of a sudden, something hit something then my threads were not overlocking. I see I have the exact same serger as you. I was praying that God would have someone on here to show me how to repair my serger. You definitely were heaven sent. Thank you again.
Aww. That really made my day! I'm glad I could help. I actually earned my bachelors in fashion design. Hopefully one day I'll be putting on a fashion show as well. That's not an easy task! I hope nothing but the best for you!
+Jasmine Harris you are definitely welcome. That's funny you should mention fashion show. That's why I was in a frantic. I am preparing to have a fashion show on April 30th.
Hey Jasmine, just wanted to say thank you for posting this video. It enabled me to diagnose my looper issues. When I started digging into it, I found there are actually two adjustment screws that give you more adjustment for the timing. On the upper looper inside the post it’s mounted to, is a very small Allen screw. If you loosen that screw you’re able to adjust the position of the upper looper. For the lower Looper, behind the thread guide is another small Allen screw. Loosen the thread guide and drop it out-of-the-way and you’ll see the small Allen screw. you’ll notice as you loosen or tighten it, the angle of the lower looper moves in and out. I’d never have found those screws without your video, so thanks again!
@Carol Davison I too have a Janome 134D and it is not looping or making a chain and I can't fix it. Taking it too a shop is out of the question. What kind of needle are you using for yours? I am using serger needles. Seems like the needle is rubbing against the plate. I need help PLEASE SOMEONE give me step by step directions. Also the thread in the needle keeps coming out and I have rethreaded the machine several times. I am ready to throw this thing out of the window. I am past frustrated
Thanks so much. I was about to head to a shop, pay $70.00 and wait about a week. Following your directions I was done in about 45 minutes. Thanks again
Thank you! I found your simple explanation of where the lower and upper loopers need to be at the lowest and highest point of the needles to be exactly the information I needed to get the timing on my Juki BabyLock Proline BL4-838D working. (I put in the model number for anyone else wanting to time this model - although your explanation works for other models too.)
Hey Jasmine, just want to say thanks to the most high for letting u post this video because u have saved me $3000 to get it fixed thats how much or more in Jamaica Yahuah barak u and your family shalam.
Thank you SO much for this video! After my serger stopped catching stitches yesterday, I could not find any good information on how to fix it. This was so helpful. Now my serger is running better than before. Thank you!!!!
Thanks for posting this video. I just fixed my kenmore serger. It's different from yours and the adjustment on mine was the upper looper which required Allen key for the adjustment. The part that helped me the most is where you showed where the upper looper and lower looper should be when the needle is up or down. Thanks!
Thank you Jasmine. I have not used my serger for 3 years and felt it was timing. You gave me courage to tear it apart to find out Now I know it is the position of the needles Thank you
Maximum appreciation for this video. Wife and I just fixed her ebay used babylock diana using the concepts you explain. For us, it was an allen wrench nut, and the adjustment was on the Y axis - the lower looper needed to shift behind the upper looper in a vertical plane - in case anyone has the same problem we did. Anyway, same basic ideas, and we're really impressed you figured all this out. Thanks so much for sharing. Serging away!
I just got a baby lock used and I herd clank the to loops hit at hit and the upper looper broke my needle I am trying to fix and find that spot hopefully this will work already spent a fortune
Thanks for posting this video, Jasmine. I haven't yet fixed my machine, but your video showed me what to look for when I do. UPDATE: I fixed it! Thanks for posting this video! It really helped.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video. There are so few videos about how to fix the timing on your serger and yours was the most useful. I am finally able to sew up pants for my baby to accommodate her adorable cloth diapered tooshie!!
This is the best example of how a serger works. I was able to make the necessary adjustments to make my serger work even though it is a different model: Huskylock 430.
Nicely Done!! this is the clearest video I have been able to find. How nice your serger allows such nice shots. The red boxes helped me focus on exactly what you were showing. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much! I just spent the last 3 hours trying to adjust the timing on my industrial serger - as you said, there's nothing out there telling you how to do it! as I was just about to give up I watched your video all the way through and realized the upper looper was behind the needles instead of in front, and voila!! the thing is such a behemoth there's no way I can ever take it into the shop, so unless I can fix it myself I'm out of luck. Thanks for saving me!! You're the best!
Thank you SO much for this video. There is NO information on the way these loopers are supposed to move. I broke a needle on my serger and since then the left needle won't catch. I worked on the thing for HOURS with no luck. I will attempt to fix this again tonight. I'm subscribing now!
I just came across this today. Go you for posting this, it has some useful nfo. FYI, the position of the upper looper can be adjusted, usually, by using an hex key in the very top of the shaft....no need for pliers, easy to break parts.
I cannot thank you enough! I have been trying to set the loopers and was having much difficulty. Your explaination as well as the video that shows loopers in action helped me tremendously.. THANK YOU....
Iv;e been having trouble with breaking thread on my Janome serger. I had read many comments and appreciate them all. Armed with this info I'm gonna see if that might be my problem. Thank you for get in there and trying to figure it out. I'm not that brave. But with armed with this new info I'm going in...without as much fear. Subcribed!
Jasmine, You are amazing! I've literally spent the last three hours trying to figure out what was wrong (just like Robin Epstein). Fixed the lower looper and now all is fine! Thanks for saving me lots of money, lost sewing time, and gas!!!
This video was really easy to follow, and I was able to fix my Brother 1034D in under an hour after it sat unused and "broken" for months. All I needed to do was tighten the lower looper screw a bit so because the looper was grazing the needles. Thank you so much!
Thanks for this video! I'm new to using a serger. Unlike a sewing machine, finding help for serger problems is difficult. Anyway, I think this video will help me fix the serger for my local makerspace.
Just to say thanks so much, l have an industrial over locker and had to replace a looper which broke - l just watched your clip and wow amazing what abit of movement can do! My machine is working better than before. Thanks you saved me time & money :-)
Thank you so much, for taking your time and uploading this video. I have learned a lot from your video. and was able to fix my surger that was sitting on shelf for years. Thanks again.
thanks so much for sharing with us! Someone gave my sewing group a Huskylock serger and I have been trying to get the timing correct - this should really help!!!!
Thank you for this video girl ! I was stuck on the proper way to install my new upper looper. Wasnt too sure on positioning. Bingo bango, I watched this and my sergers back in biz. Peace
My needles started clanking against my lower looper. I'm not able to take it in for repair. Thank you for this video! This helped me to identify the problem. Fingers crossed I can make the adjustments at home without spending a fortune on a repair. :o)
thankyou so much, I crashed my machine today, and I have samples to do to be able to make 10-20 an hour at home, I thought at first it was all down the drain, but you saved my day.
Thanks, that helps a lot. My upper looper must have been shifted by thick material and started scraping against the lower looper. Now I know what to do to correct it.
thank you so much for your tutorial. Ive never fixed timing a day in my life. My jenome went crazy off a simple thread lol. it was making a baaaadddddd noise. At a critical time yesterday i usally drop off at shop pay 90-100. I was no no, lord help me tooo much money. i jump on your youtube followed what you said, PERFECT stitch in less than hour. thank you thank you and blesssssssings
Thank you for making a video. My serger works again after 3 months of death. Tip for next time find a flash light or move a floor lamp to the front side of the machine. You described well with your words so it wasnt too bad. But if I could see it well it would be even better
Thank you so much. Although I have a different type of serger this was the most helpful and my machine is now working again. Had the upper looper in wrong position. That's done. Now my machine is snagging the fabric although I changed the needle. Maybe it need some fine tuning.
THX 4 great lesson about serger timing like reference video of good-working machine. We found (at home) little damaged one of needles which "shotting" directly to lower looper and also made a little damage of sewing plate this way. All was not visible at first look, bad sound of machine and cutted threads were only like result of sewing. When was all "repaired" and needles replaced for new, our "Texi joylock" (JUKI seger model) well working again. No authorised hands of technician were needed. :)
THANK YOU! I fixed mine! I watched your vid and got er going again! Hadn't used it in about 4 or more years but after seeing your vid I was like well what have I got to lose? Not taking it back to the shop again! So I messed around with it and got it going. Been working for months but I am sewing on some really thick stuff now and got it off again. Got to mess with it again now. I can hear the needle hitting something way down in there and I am thinking it's the lower looper since the thread is breaking on it. Going to also change my needles and start fresh with those as well.
Jasmine you are amazing, I wanted to just chuck my overlocker away but after watching your video, it took me 5 min and my overlocker works perfectly. Thank you so much.👌😅🌺
Jasmine, thanks for the video my machine is working again. Wanted to tell you instead of using a pair of plyers on the upper loop, there is a set screw in the top of shaft that once loosened you can adjust the loop arm. Thanks again!
Any ideas on how to correct a skipped stitch? Top left needle is not catching upper looper thread. In slow motion it looks like the top left needle thread is catching on upper looper. I have Juki MO-134
Most likely the reason the upper looper thread isn't catching is because the lower looper thread is also not catching. The reason the upper thread gets dropped despite wrapping the needle is because the lower thread is needed to lock the stitch together. If you check the space between the lower looper and needles when each needle is directly in front of it, you may find the left needle is further away. The fix can be a little complicated but as a work around you can try using a needle one size larger.
Thank you! I have the brother 1034d and this helped me tremendously. However now I have my upper looper and lower looper scraping eachother as they pass. Barely. How to I adjust the lowerlooper?
Noooo Problem! I, too, was frustrated and knew others were in the same predicament so I chose to pass my knowledge along. Please share my video with others.
I have this machine also. It started clanking. Called Singer, they said 'change needles' said not to use Schmidz needles as they are too long, only use Singer needles... Then they said the instruction manual was mis-printed with the wrong threading sequence. Singer told me thread from inside out..not what the manual says!! How are we supposed to know this?? It's worked just fine for a year. Then she says 'oh if your machine is out of time it's not covered under the warranty unless it happened in the first 90 days. Well somehow I stumbled across your RUclips video and if I can get the strength to turn those screws I will try it. I sure don't want a $100 service fee. Wish me luck.
Very helpful information on how surger works. My husband replaced the lower looper and the blades and now my machine will do a perfect chain until I add the fabric. Then the stitches not right. do I adjust the upper tension knobs now rather than the lower screws ?help! thanks!
Hi Lois. I don't have a straight answer for you because there are multiple things that could be causing incorrect stitching. First, let me start by asking what type of Serger (Brand & model) do you have?
Lois Benson You are going to have to do some problem solving on your own for this particular problem. Keep in mind that Singer brand SERGERS ONLY work properly with Singer brand SERGER needles. It will NOT sew correctly with generic needles or needles used for regular single thread sewing machines because of the length and size. It sounds like this is either a thread tension problem, improper threading, differential feed is set incorrectly, incorrect size needle, or even something as simple as a loose presser foot. Your manual will help ALOT with this. If you dont have one I can find one for you but here is what I wrote to another viewer: (1) What weight of fabric are you using? This is important so you know the correct thread and singer needle to use.Your manual will have the info pertaining to what needles to use in relation to fabric weight. (2) Did you thread the machine correctly using your manual as a guide? (3) Once you have this correct you test a piece of fabric and play with the thread tension to get the correct stitching. Your manual can also help with tension. Note: sewing machines require maintenance like a car so keep it oiled! You will be amazed how much it affects your sewing. Again, your manual will have this info.
I am so happy to find this video. You are still helping people 4 yrs down the road! My Kenmore is 15 years old but several nights ago, I broke both needles and it was down. Working good again since I watched your video several times. Thank you so much.
Hi Thank you - I'm going to look at the loopers now. My stitches are ok for about 4-6 inches then alternate from very loopy at the back to ok and keeps reoccurring. Am I correct in thinking this could be a timing issue ? Thank you
Great video... I have been looking for a guide with not much success. On my serger, the left needle keeps breaking. I am defiantly going to give these adjustments a try. Thank you
Speaking of upper loopers on sergers, usually it has been my experience that most upper loopers have a set screw holding them in place? To adjust them we usually loosen the set screw then set the distances between the upper and lower looper as well as the distances between the loopers and the needles. Also we sometimes need to re-adjust the front and rear needle guards when we adjust either or both loopers. I am a sewing machine mechanic/tech specializing in industrial sewing machines, sergers, overlocker/flatlocker, hemmers and single stitchers. If your lucky you get an instruction manual which lists the distances for each looper as well as the needle guards and the procedures for adjusting them. I have learned over the years that if the loopers (either upper or lower) are off then the stitch will be incorrect, assuming it stitches at all.
Hi Jasmine, thank you for this vid! i have the white superlock 2000 ats, and i will fix the timing as i had broken my upper looper, to replace the upper looper, can this be done easily? or do you suggest i take it to the shop? i just ordered a upper looper, and wonder if this is complicated? thx
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, unfortunately I couldn't see what your threads were doing due to the poor contrast of lighting, it was like watching a silhouette somewhat.
You put this 9 years ago but watching it this morning in 2023 saved my butt a lot of money. Your awesome!! Thank you so much.
Can not thank you enough after a very frustrating 2 days of searching internet to find out how to sort timing on my frister rossmann i found your video and 5 mins later my baby was running better than it had for a long time. You deserve a medal

Chile..... omg and we have the exact same serger too !! Shout out to you & God!!
Thank you for making a video. My serger works again after 3 months of death. Tip for next time find a flash light or move a floor lamp to the front side of the machine. You described well with your words so it wasnt too bad. But if I could see it well it would be even better
Thank you for making it direct and simple.
Thank you so much. I watched your video and was able to fix my serger. Thank you so much.
Cheryl Ann you are very welcome!
Thank you so much. Although I have a different type of serger this was the most helpful and my machine is now working again. Had the upper looper in wrong position. That's done. Now my machine is snagging the fabric although I changed the needle. Maybe it need some fine tuning.
You have saved me! Thank you SO much for this video you are a genius!
Thank you Jasmine. Your Video is wonderful. You are one smart cookie!!!!
Thanks for the help, you saved my serger from the Dumpster.
Glad I could help out!
OMG!!!!! i love you....thank you so much for this video....you have just saved me a ton of money
Thanks it help however my lower looper is loose. I can move it with my hands. What I am to say or ask is how do I tightened it.
Thank you thank you so much for the video. I have an old husky lock and I figured out how to fix my timing myself.
This was VERY informative!!
Glad it was helpful!
Mark Swaney Glade I could help! Also, thanks for the info. I will definitely keep that in mind!
You totally saved me - THANK YOU for this video!!
Hi there thank you for sharing all your information and very clear video
Thanks so much this video has really helped me alot
Wonderful video. Very informative
Noooo Problem! I, too, was frustrated and knew others were in the same predicament so I chose to pass my knowledge along. Please share my video with others.
God bless you for doing so!!
Love your common sense explanation!
Thanks for your video. Your advise worked on my mom's Euro-Pro.
Its a singer of 14 SH 654
Lois Benson
You are going to have to do some problem solving on your own for this particular problem. If you dont have one I can find one for you but here is what I wrote to another viewer:
(1) What weight of fabric are you using?
Thank you so much that was awesome and you made it so easy to to fix my serger! ❤️☀️💙
Very helpful, also I found a place to use the allen wrench on the upper looper to move it back and forth.
Thank you, Thank you.
You are very welcome
Thanks for the video. My machine is not overlocking thicker fabric, sometimes even the thin one. What may be the problem
Thank you
+Tina V I hope everything works out for you!
Thank you,
I have not had a chance to sit down and give it a try. But hope to do so soon.
Thank you so much 🥰 , i managed to fix mine. God bless you.
You are very welcome!
Thank you for video helped allot today up and running knocking out timing sewing really thick cardigan too fast x London
Thank you for the information!
Thank You so much for the wonderful video. It was very helpful.
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much, this helped me so much!!!!
You are so welcome. Glad to know that even after 9 years following the making of this video I am still able to help others
Hi Jasmine, thank you for this vid! i have the white superlock 2000 ats, and i will fix the timing as i had broken my upper looper, to replace the upper looper, can this be done easily? or do you suggest i take it to the shop? i just ordered a upper looper, and wonder if this is complicated? thx
I'm showing this to my husband. Hoping to be able to get my Brother server fixed up and working again.
Thank you so much for this! ❤️
Thank you for the demostration, it is very usefull
Loved your video helped a lot, but what my problem is that the upper looper is unthreading itself, I have a Bernini 800 dl please help thanks
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, unfortunately I couldn't see what your threads were doing due to the poor contrast of lighting, it was like watching a silhouette somewhat.
