i’ve found that if i’m spending too much time mixing and can’t get it right, it usually comes down to the sound itself. time to change it!
Exactly! The sound is a great place to start if it's not working!
"If your driving isn't going well the one thing you're not trying will blow your mind: if you add a CAR to the driving, it changes everything!" -- heh, yeah it is a First Principle and fundamentals thing that is kinda obvious, but I just love that the creator here is so SERIOUS about giving all this time to something early in the video (mixing) that just shouldn't even really be possible without learning how to write a song first. I guess there really are people who fire up a DAW and start mixing without much of any song first.
Haha yes! I'm serious about this lol. I'm really trying to say that people's time would be better spent improving their songwriting skills rather than trying to 'fix' their songs with mixing!
@@Music-By-Mattie Love it, you went about it in a lighthearted but serious way with some hardcore irony in there. People do get really hung up on recording and engineering, and they're missing the ability to even create content and write songs. It's a real problem to get hung-up on the technology, techniques, and live in the software -- gotta write some songs to make it all come together! Honing this craft is key, and it takes repetition and matching your killer taste and what you enjoy into growing the ability to create it.
Spot on.
Thanks! 🫡
How to write better songs: "Write better songs"
...actually good advice though
Haha yes!

Chords, sound selection and instrumentation and lead or voice melody are 70% of the song. After that mixing is the rest 25%. If you are good at arranging / composing , you can learn slowly mixing, or give it to someone more experienced to mix it for you. But if you are perfect at mixing, but you dont know composing and arranging, there is no hope.
Totally agree.
Another misleading video. Learning mixing does not stop anyone from learning song writing. People should focus on what they are lacking, what they need to improve in.
People can learn both. That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that trying to mix a poorly written song will get you nowhere. People think it will fix their problems, but they should really be focusing on the songwriting itself.
