I think Bale is the only one who is comfortable with the fakeness neccessary to play the role. People read the Joker's line in Arkham about Batman being the real guy and think there is one guy and it acts like the guy in the suit. Batman is a persona optimized to fight crime. Bruce Wayne is a persona optimized to protect Batman and the people Bruce loves. The real guy probably only comes out when he's talking to people who know both personas. Bale is the only actor who got that trichotomy in his performance. The performances since Bale have been too sincere and not fake enough.
