It's called "Client" because it's the client side of the application from a game development standpoint. As part of the client-server relationship, your game is the client.
ya but next to every game has this sort of system, client to server communication, but not every studio chooses to name the "player side application" client, I think this is what he questioned
one thing he doesnt mention about the automatic scene switcher for it to work properly, is the game settings itself has to be fullscreen and not borderless fullscreen. If you are running full screen borderless you have to click on the lanucher or loading screen itself for the scene to switch. So if you get up to go to the bathroom when champ select is over. the launcher will still be visible to your viewers until you click on the in game client itself and vice versa. I tried to make this clear but i honestly dont know how to explain it any better hopefully people understand this hahaha
@ Gaming Careers it actually makes perfect sense. You playing from home, on the game client, connect to the game server when you join a match. *Client 2* (in a network) a desktop computer or workstation that is capable of obtaining information and applications from a server. Be better to use lobby and match, or lobby and game
@@exSkev Pretty sure going fullscreen-windowed at your monitor's full resolution would fix this edit: nevermind that didn't work. You find the solution?
bro this is exactly whaty i was looking for and the exact game as well, man thank you so much for this, keep up the great work helping us noobs setup our streams!!
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH. I first started with the advanced scene switcher plugin but that didn´t work fine. Ironically I do stream League of Legends :D so this was just the perfect tutorial to fix this little issue I had. Thank you a billion times bro.
The game is called client, and it makes a lot of sense. The game sends information to a server about your movement, and receives information from the server about the other players movements ( and other stuff of course), hence: the client.
Easily the best channel to practice my hobby... I like to pause and play the video without listening to the content, and let the hilarious freeze frames tell the story :-)
They're actually named correctly. Software connecting to a server (relative to that software) is a client, even if both the client and server software are on the same machine. Look up the "client-server model" on Wikipedia.
Thank you so much for your comment. I didn't even know about layering, and I was confused as to why it kept changing scenes when I tabbed out of League so I used your method and it works wonders. Much thanks
This might sound dumb but if you are having problems where you cant exit the actual game for some reason and if you have windows press the task view and you'll be able to use other applications even thought the game is open. this is a way that i found around the problem.
Wow, this is an amazing feature I didn't even realize existed in OBS. Great video, as always, man. I can't wait to give this a shot this weekend. The haircut looks great!
I saw you mentioning to Pete on Discord that you would come here to comment about his hair, I immediately came here to check if you really did. Not disappointed.
Terminology about client in network means usually situation of client/server, the game program is the client program which connects the game server. I'm not sure if I understood what is the problem with this client-thing, it should be just like it is to my understanding. Also web browser is a client program, which contacts web servers. And so on.
We have a thing we would like to do in our org in the game star citizen. Lets say we all broadcast on our local computers with OBS, with game sound and microphone sound. Can you then send all signals to a server running obs studio? And only auto focus the view on the one talking? Like a live RedTeam standing by star wars stream
I have a game scene to capture ANY full screen app. and another to show an image when the game is minimized. but for this to work I have to add every single f* game to auto scene switcher. I was playing a new game today and forgot to add it to the scene switcher, then I record a vídeo with a single image on it, very nice! Is there a way to the switcher really AUTO switch if detect ANY full screen app? thanks
Hi, I've been streaming for two days now, and discovered you guys this evening. Thanks for being a great resource as I'm just getting started! After watching this, I wonder - is there a way to have obs switch automatically from the "Starting Soon" scene (countdown created with Snaz) when the timer reaches 0? Thanks again for the help!
Hey there, you've really been a big help. Iv'e been trying to do scene switching on Stream Labs OBS but its not working. I basically followed this video using the same game and imported all the settings to Stream Labs. It captures the client but wont switch to the game itself.
The "client" verbiage in this video is backward. The game _is_ the "client". It's a game client, which connects to the game server. What you're calling the client is more appropriately called a "launcher". It's not a game. It's not sending and receiving gameplay data packets to and from a server. It's used for launching a game client. Hence "launcher". It's called "LeagueClientUx.exe" because it is a wrapper for the game client, setting up all the server connections, options, and everything else, which affects the user experience, or UX. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_client Otherwise, great tutorial! I did not know this functionality existed.
This makes a lot more sense! Thanks for the explanation. Weirdly Riot often refers to the launcher as the 'client' with them detailing 'client updates' and 'restart your client' etc.
tried using this and I thought this auto scene switcher will switch scenes based on the scenes alone with customizable timers but it seems like it's not the case as the switching is source or application-linked based on what a scene has which only seems to work on single pc streaming setup. I wish it has a feature that you can set timers to a scene to switch automatically and not have to link the application or source you are running.. for example, if I have a 2 min intro scene with a 2 min countdown timer and i want it to automatically switch to my just chatting/pre game scene when the countdown ends instead of manually switching it which I don't think this switcher can do. of course, the usage is very much preferential and there might be a possible work around it. I'm not saying this isn't a good addon to obs but i think it needs some more added customizability or features.
the problem i'm having, is that i have a static 'start/finish' scene, i have a scene for 'loading which shows the loading screen, and then a game scene which shows in game. and seperate overlays for each, obs is only detecting the loading screen as the "tm' scene how do i switch between the 3?
Hi! Great video! But like, I have LiveU sendind video to Nginx server running on my computer sending data do OBS and then twitch (I'm an IRL Streamer) Do you know how can I do a scrip or something to detect's when Bitrate it's low to switch to a Be Right Back scene ? Thanks and nice video :)
Hi..thx for the video. I am actually looking for an auto scene switch solution to randomly select a set of webcams scenes as I play guitar. I have 4 webcams I want to rotate through. You wouldn't know how to set that up would you?
@GamingCareers Does OBS have a "profile" or "saved settings" feature where if one is going to stream a game previously streamed one can select that "saved settings" for it to load all the settings you had for that game?
I'm having a problem now where if I alt-tab from my game, it switches automatically back to the client, even while the game is running. Is there any way to keep the game as the top display even when I'm alt-tabbed?
Its a couple years too late, but set your game to Windowed or Borderless Windowed. Works for me. Once I'm done editing everything, I just switch it back to windowed.
Sir can you make guide video about how to connect gaming pc to streaming pc using elgato hd60pro and also connect mic for good and decent result much needed help
I know this video is a bit old, but I thought I'd try to see if this worked regardless. It did.... except it sometimes freezes my entire pc when switching scene, for no apparent reason: Running a Ryzen 7 5800 with RTX 3070Ti graphics... shouldn't have a problem switching scenes.
You can set the switch to occur every time if you only stream one game or window at a time and want automatic switching to a "holding" page. Pick an application that is running all the time you game (I use Team Speak) to use as your "default to" on game exit and set your hold page to whatever you want ;-) /commentspam
GAMING careers can you please drop a link on how to watch youtube on ur stream when useing obs id like to look at things with my viewers but dont know how to capture the screen thank u so much
Streamlabs OBS is a seperate/unique fork from OBS, it's a different application that cuts/adds features as they see fit. I wouldn't recommend using it unless you want a pretty vanilla/limited/albeit more user-friendly (at times) experience for your stream.
Is there a way to get this to not only change the scene based on which game I have open, but also change which game (category) I am currently streaming to in Twitch without manually switching? For example, if I close out of Rocket League it changes from my RL scene to my Just Chatting scene (and changes my category on Twitch from Rocket League to Just Chatting) then if I open another game; let's just say, Overwatch it changes my scene and Twitch category to Overwatch? And if possible to only change the category while actively streaming and not just if OBS is running. Also, defaulting back to a Twitch category for the game I primarily stream at the end of stream would be nice for raid shoutouts. I'm going to look into this myself after work today :) seems like it'd be useful!
can we do the auto scene switcher on streamlabs obs? @Gaming Careers. If not, how do you guys do to switch scene when playing league while streaming? manually?
It's called "Client" because it's the client side of the application from a game development standpoint. As part of the client-server relationship, your game is the client.
More specifically, there is a client/server relationship. The server is the one that all the clients access.
This. Thank you sir, it was annoying when he pointed it the second time. Multiplayer games have local clients and online servers
but why does it say client on both windows, in different parts of their name?
ya but next to every game has this sort of system, client to server communication, but not every studio chooses to name the "player side application" client, I think this is what he questioned

Best video I’ve seen so far explains the process to stream league in OBS❤
I only have one problem when i alt tab it in game switchs to the client scene everytime, i only want to switch to the client when my game is closed.

League of Legends has it right the game is the client. The app that launches the game is called the Launcher. So you have Launcher then Client/game.

If you have two monitors how would you capture your Premiere Pro program monitor for example? Rather than the whole Premiere Pro interface. Thanks
Does this work when i comes to consoles? Like the XBox One of PS4.

My automatic switcher only works when that window is the "Active" or "in focus" . Anyway to have it switch weather it has focus or not?
