You can even add hardware controls to all the faders inside OBS utilizing a midi controller like the Korg Nanokontrol2, the midi-mixer software, and the OBS Studio plugin for the midi-mixer software. And bam, can assign any hardware fader or knob from the midi controller to any of the audio sources in OBS.
I started youtube back in 2018, but I quickly lost interest cause recording was so dull with only the game and myself. There were probably ways to do something like this but I just couldnt bother with the complicated ways i was finding. I recently started again, and this. THIS. This will give me the motivation to keep it up. I won't be just utterly bored now. thanks for the vod and thanks to the creators
god i finally got to solve the stupid double audio recording when using soundboards on voicemod and streamdeck, so basicly it records everything through your mic, and you hear it on the system too, so the OBS records that twice with a delay and makes the volume double, really annoying, but this, saved my day! now i have created a scene with all the sounds into each individual and im not getting double recordings anymore! thank you! you are a legend and deserve my sub!
OMG, that is such an improvement to OBS! I was always wondering, why OBS does not support to handle all sources in the mixer, like the Browser source. I only need to rearrange my OBS layout as I have a more complex mixer now ^^ Thanks for all the quality stuff you upload, you do an excellent job!
For anyone downloading the latest one: I had problems using it (not showing up) until I updated my OBS version. After that in the latest plugin you have to "add executable" after selecting your source.

Also gonna be checking out your other videos as well this will help me in the long run so thank you.
I would only add that you can separate them in advanced options into different tracks so you can save your VOD of maybe awesome kills on a Battle Royale game and have no voice over or music on it, just the sound of the game so you can make short clips for maybe TikTok, Instagram or YT shorts in order to attract more potential viewers.
This was super helpful, thank you! The only thing I can't seem to figure out is my browser sources' audio. I'm not sure how to have those come through without having desktop audio enabled, but that would double everything I've already split.
Great tutorial and I'm glad to see this feature finally supported natively in OBS. I want to find out if there's an easy way to capture game audio only in an easy way. Obviously this feature is great for capturing specific apps like Spotify and Discord into their own tracks, but if you play multiple games, it might become tedious to add a new source for each one. I pretty much always play games with music or Discord in the background, and when I record something, I want to be able to have game audio by itself in it's own track. Should I just stick with Voicemeter if that's the case?
im in the same boat. i just want to add one main source that captures all the different games i played and not have to add a new source for each game. Let me know if you find a solution.
GREAT VIDEO, THANK YOU SO MUCH! It really was just what I was looking for (Voicemeeter has given me such headaches). For anyone wondering, if you want to capture the computer audio (for games for instance) you can simply choose the option to capture everything BUT the selected executables (I would add obs to said list). You could also add obs a a sound source to control alert and shoutout volumes.
I found the solution. Another creatore made a video about it so I want to give him credit for it. His name is: "woodgnomezombie". What you need to do is: 1. Rightclick the alert box sources, go to properties and select "control audio via obs". That will make it appear in the audio mixer list. 2. Then go to Advanced audio properties and set the alert box source to "monitor and output", so you will hear it as well when an alert comes in and not only the stream. Enjoy =)
Best video so far, removed all my dilemma all these times... now i can join discord freely without worried that others sound gonna be included on the stream...Thanks man!!
Amazing vid and super helpful, liked and subscribed! One minor tip for folk who may encounter issues setting up a source for Discord: despite having Discord open, it wasn't able to find Discord as a Session until I joined a voice channel. As soon as I joined a voice channel, it picked up the session and I was able to add it without issue. Hope that helps some folk!
May I compliment you on using the CORRECT audio levels. So many people believe you need to get as close to "0" (zero) or full scale, but that is absolutely wrong. The green section is just that... green, go, okay. The yellow section is a warning that you are getting too loud. And to hit the red section means "you're too damned loud". I spoke with two friends, both audio engineers, and they confirm that your audio should never really go into the yellow, and definitely not ever hit the red. In my studio, I shoot for a level of around -20, which coincidentally is where the green section of your audio meters transitions to the yellow section. Yes, occasional peaks go into the yellow section, but I never ever let my audio get near the red section. When audio is that loud, you're probably getting some distortion, and the possibility of severe clipping. Audio hitting zero, and going even louder (which is not possible in the digital domain) is simply distortion. Proper audio levels make for cleaner audio overall, which is a joy to listen to!
So nice! Only question is what if we need more audio recording channels so we can assign these various audio captures to their own channel? OBS currently maxes out at 6 and that could be fairly limiting with the power this plugin gives.
Well, I've got another question. If I set everything up, like done in the video, what other settings do I need to do to make audio separeted into various tracks? I need this so I can record each audio separated so I can manipulate each track of the recording I make with OBS Record function. Right now, in Output Streaming, I've setup the Twitch VOD Track, so my music will not be captured in the Twitch VOD. But what about the other settings so each audiotrack is recorded individualy in OBS
I just started streaming and this guide for the audio mixer was PERFECT. I got it in one go and it sounds lovely. Absolutely brilliant mate, thank you so much.
Great video, thanks! FYI, they added some new functionality to make it less tedious (multiple sources per capture, and allowing all audio EXCEPT the specified sources). Might be cool to update your video or make a quick follow-up!
@@HaggertyHaggs OMG so, basically, if I check that box. it's going be like good old display capture but without all those that are assigned individually, right?
UPDATE: The plugin is even better now, add multiple audio into one and just turn on game or app and viola sound. Wish they do a multi window/display capture like this audio app, so I dont have to use nested scenes This has honestly helped with my audio, tho I still keep the Desktop audio for games cause theres no way to put game audio unless you capture EVERY game you play and I already have a nested scene for all the games and I just use other audio to duck desktop audio, probably im missing something for game audio but in case it comes out double it works for me
You can change the settings to "Capture foreground window with hotkey" with this plug in and use that to capture game audio. That way your music or discord doesn't double up under desktop audio as well
@@tsmith1223 This had made my OBS crash and I dont know what the hotkey is, redownloaded it just in case to see if it fixes it Update: Did it this way and as long as I dont mess with the settings to that audio my OBS wont crash
This is great, worked wonderfully. I do have a question on how to get the alerts like for stream overlay alerts, channel point redemption that play during live streams to go through audibly since we're disabling desktop audio there isn't a clear channel to open for something like this compared to the mic or game. You don't hear those audio bytes play with this set up, is there a work around?
Exactly my thoughts. You could right click on the source such as alerts and properties > control audio via OBS but from my experience the audio can lag and last I checked it wasn't fixed. If anyone else has other suggestions please share!
I have the same problem. This works for game, discord, music. But how can my stream hear audio like alerts, channel point redemption? Do you have any solutions?
I noticed this today in sources and wondered if I could skip using voicemeeter and I can with this! I'm so happy and used this and now I can listen to music and not get my vods muted. Thank you for this video since it helped me set it up so easily.
UPDATES: I’ve been using this for about 2 months ago for twitch. No issues occurred until this week. 1. The game audio does not automatically switch like game capture. So be aware of that. There have been many times where I switch games and then my chat tells me the game is muted. 2. If you change a setting for the plugin during stream, it can crash obs live. 3. Yesterday my audio desynced in the vod for the very first time. It was about a second delay. This never happened before I downloaded the plugin. 4. Today my audio was very choppy and my mods told me that it was everything except for my mic which is exactly pointing to the plugin messing up. Please note that I am not trying to shit on this plugin, I know it’s still in beta and has done very well until this week. However, I would still look at voicemeeter if you have the money for better stability and knowledge that it won’t mess up your stream.
I've had the same sound glitch issue you mention on No.4 since installing the plugin. Everything expect my mic (which is the only source not going through the plugin) gets sound glitches every 10-15 minutes which last around 5 seconds. Sometimes it happens in moments you might want to save for clips and generally disrupts the viewer experience. Im considering buying an elgato wave device just to use their software at this point. Everything else I've tried seems to have issues. 😩
Hello! When adding audio sources, do you need to create a different source for every game you play? Or is there a way to have them all under one source?
I went through 2 other tutorials for this and you were the only one to mention how to add a nested scene into another source, so thank you for helping!!
This is really helpful, thank you! But how would you split audio in OBS from streams so they don't play in the VOD but play while you're live? (for example, music from Spotify to avoid DMCA and all that) I feel like that would be a really interesting video to see, but any advice will do. Thanks in advance! ❤️
@@rumiakiku6440 I just saw this now lmao. But do you happen to have a tutorial on how to do that? I don’t really stream regularly and don’t know my way around Twitch and OBS 😅 It would be much appreciated!
Hey, great video but I do have one concern... With this method, does that mean that you have to add one audio source for each game that you play too? So if you're gonna stream a new game you either have to set that up beforehand or do it on stream?
I had the same thought. But if you make another app audio capture and select the same music source (or whatever audio youre trying to keep separate), there is a check box "capture all audio except the selected window", check that. Unfortunately I'm not sure if you can repeat this for every application you want separated.
Amazing video but what about for dual PCs and sending over Discord and multiple sources from the Gaming to the Streaming PC? Do you have anything for that? Besides the GoXLR?
@@grantt1836 My GoXlr is on my Gaming and I know that I can split audio when I push it to my Streaming PC. My Streaming PC is too weak to hold hold all that software the reason I use the GoXlr on my Gaming... When I get a new Streaming PC I will put my GoXlr on it
@@theannualantagonist5930 It does.. kinda. you're limited to just your hardware or Audio plugins like VB cable/Voicemeter. OBS you can specify EACH application you have running or using.
For those curious about Game audio capture just adding Steam, or any other launcher, as an audio capture seems to cover any game launched by the application. So you don't have to add a source for each game.
Thanks a lot for this. The virtual audio cables don't work for me and I was having a hard time trying to have audio in my VODS with music playing. This is the by far the easiest and most effective method I've come across. Thanks :)

you're a life saver, im going to record all these tracks seperately so i can edit them all at any point however i like. insane quality boost to whatever im making
I have a few issues, if anyone knows how to help, that would be greatly appreciated. 1) I am on a later version of the Win-Capture-Audio Plugin, which has a different in-OBS UI. I think I navigated it pretty well, but it didn't have a few of the options that you mentioned in the video. 2) Whenever I put executables into the OBS sources, through the Audio Plugin, they work fine and audio is sensed, but only for that executable's session. Once I close an executable and re-open it, the audio is no longer sensed in OBS's Audio Mixer. I believe I can just remove the executables and re-assign them and it'd work fine, but that's just a hassle that I'd like to avoid messing with every time I want to stream/record.
It will, you'll need to enable all the audio tracks in OBS recording settings, and then in Advanced Audio Properties, check each source to record to a different track.
So happy about this! I have a Scarlett Solo running a Shure mic and every time I would setup Voicemeter it would make my mic have static every time. Glad I can finally circumvent it. Thanks for the video!
@@harrychristopher8548 I'm actually not sure. I've tried a few things, but none of them worked. My only idea would be to output through headphones and just not wear them, but I admit, that most likely is also where your game audio is being played through.
Thankyou, I have been struggling to do anything like this. It was straight to the point and incredibly informative. I only wish I had found you hours earlier!!
I love that this is so much easier than all the other bs I went through before. The only downside is that I can't get Mix It Up in the list of executables for some reason, but otherwise it works as intended. Edit: And now it works, so I have everything separate now.
Thanks man! I was using the Game Capture option to record Spiderman Remastered, but couldn't figure out how to separate the game audio from my Spotify music for post-editing until I found this vid. Much appreciated! Liked and subbed!
🤘You rock! I have been struggling with getting my audio levels set correctly for a couple of days. This is a perfect solution, clearly and quickly stated. You totally earned an immediate subscribe - THANK YOU!!!
Thanks for the video! This is the first video of yours that I have come across, and I found it because I was searching for comparisons between using this method and Steelseries Sonar in Steelseries GG. Even though Sonar seems much simpler than Voicemeeter, it's pretty annoying having to change my default sound devices in Windows every time without completely closing out Sonar when I am not using it, and I notice a lot of duplicate audio sources in Sonar as well (OBS Studio 64-bit popping up as an unmapped audio source like 3-4 times). It also gives me a hard time with dragging sources to certain categories, like some will disappear entirely and reroute as an unmapped audio source, or revert back to where it originally was despite trying to change the source. As a new streamer, I think I am going to give this a try first even though it is in Beta, but I feel that this will give me more "peace of mind" than having to use an external piece of software to manage all of my audio. It's a shame because the ClearCast AI Noise Cancelation feature in Sonar was very nice, but again, it could probably be done in OBS as well. Just a question I have: In the Nested Scene, I assume I need to add separate audio source for each game I play for it to have its own slider, right? For example, Helldivers, CoD, and Fortnite should all have their own slider in audio mixer? Many thanks, and looking forward to seeing other videos from you.
I think I found the answer to my question, and I believe the answer is no. I downloaded the latest version of this plug-in and now it lets you add a list of executables for a single capture. For example, I created an Application Audio Output Capture and named it Comms, then I added the Discord executable and Xbox Game Bar widgets for chats and parties. So, I created one named Game and added all of the game executables I’ll use for my stream so I can manage the audio for any game on that one mixer/slider.
Im confused so how do I add just a stand alone source for say game audio? Or do I need to add all game audio separately via the mixer, in testing I have game audio running thru output capture but then I can also see that my music audio is still running in that source too even though it's a browser source
This plugins functionality is now included in the latest versions of OBS, so there's no need to download or install the plugin anymore. Everything else in this guide is still the same though!
thanks a TON for coming back & commenting this , just saved me some hassle !
ah, thanks for the video though lol
how? I cannot select just Spotify from audio output capture, only devices, and Application Audio Output Capture does not give me the option to select just Spotify. I can only choose the whole browser.

Your voice is incredibly soothing. I could listen to you talk or explain anything all day lmao
Been following for years now and everytime I stumble across an OBS issue - You always have a vid that sorts it. Appreciate it!
MAN, I SWEAR TO GOD I WAS LOOKING FOR A TUTORIAL LIKE THIS FOR MONTHS!! THANKS, A LOT!!!
Dude this was just what i needed, you made getting this set up so simple. That nested scene tip is so great. Thank you!
Does this work with an yamaha MG10XU or only with special devices?
Thanks
I only need to rearrange my OBS layout as I have a more complex mixer now ^^
Thanks for all the quality stuff you upload, you do an excellent job!
For anyone downloading the latest one: I had problems using it (not showing up) until I updated my OBS version. After that in the latest plugin you have to "add executable" after selecting your source.
CAN U HELP ME
You legend
Cant believe the reason it wasn't working was because I basically didn't add it to the list

You sir have earned yourself a subscriber I was trying to figure it out for so long and first thing I search up and your video came up, I can honestly say you was 100% on point no distractions or dragging it out just straight to the point and I thank you my good man.
Also gonna be checking out your other videos as well this will help me in the long run so thank you.
THANK YOU!! After 4 hours of trying with Voicemeeter I found your video and made the setup within 10 minutes. rescued from a mental breakdown :D
man this is exactly what i needed, i was looking for a tutorial to try to tackle Voice meter AGAIN and instead found this, THANK YOU
I would only add that you can separate them in advanced options into different tracks so you can save your VOD of maybe awesome kills on a Battle Royale game and have no voice over or music on it, just the sound of the game so you can make short clips for maybe TikTok, Instagram or YT shorts in order to attract more potential viewers.
Let me know if you find a solution.
same here
GREAT VIDEO, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I cannot make it work, how did you do it?
I found the solution. Another creatore made a video about it so I want to give him credit for it. His name is: "woodgnomezombie".
What you need to do is:
1. Rightclick the alert box sources, go to properties and select "control audio via obs". That will make it appear in the audio mixer list.
2. Then go to Advanced audio properties and set the alert box source to "monitor and output", so you will hear it as well when an alert comes in and not only the stream.
Enjoy =)
^^Worked for spotify aswell. Thanks alot!
Is there a plug-in that adds more recording channels?
Well, I've got another question. If I set everything up, like done in the video, what other settings do I need to do to make audio separeted into various tracks? I need this so I can record each audio separated so I can manipulate each track of the recording I make with OBS Record function. Right now, in Output Streaming, I've setup the Twitch VOD Track, so my music will not be captured in the Twitch VOD. But what about the other settings so each audiotrack is recorded individualy in OBS
@@dreeeke I'm interested in knowing how to do this also.
Straight to the point, this is what all tutorials should be.
Might be cool to update your video or make a quick follow-up!
facts? how to add all audio except specified sourced? ie: spotify?
@@poshtraditions Yeah, there is a little checkbox in the properties that says "capture all audio EXCEPT sessions from the selected executables"
@@HaggertyHaggs OMG so, basically, if I check that box. it's going be like good old display capture but without all those that are assigned individually, right?
@@HaggertyHaggs have u any idea why it wouldn’t capture game chat audio like my teammates
UPDATE: The plugin is even better now, add multiple audio into one and just turn on game or app and viola sound. Wish they do a multi window/display capture like this audio app, so I dont have to use nested scenes
This has honestly helped with my audio, tho I still keep the Desktop audio for games cause theres no way to put game audio unless you capture EVERY game you play and I already have a nested scene for all the games and I just use other audio to duck desktop audio, probably im missing something for game audio but in case it comes out double it works for me
this is what I was thinking.. or you'd have to change the source every time you start a new game? annoying but separated audio is too nice lol
You can change the settings to "Capture foreground window with hotkey" with this plug in and use that to capture game audio. That way your music or discord doesn't double up under desktop audio as well
I just add the audio as I stream the games or as I need the audio, I stream like 3 different games mainly so its easier for me to do it that way
@@tsmith1223 This had made my OBS crash and I dont know what the hotkey is, redownloaded it just in case to see if it fixes it
Update: Did it this way and as long as I dont mess with the settings to that audio my OBS wont crash
@@PinkCasper I have to remember to change the game audio source I play multiple games or else I wouldve added all of them and hid them on OBS
My solutuion is to capture OBS like discord as alert sound. Because the sound comes from OBS. This works for me great!
@@MrRockynaiter Thanks for the solution! I did just that. This also works for a stream deck if anyone was using that as a soundboard like I am.
@@MrRockynaiter thankyou
I noticed this today in sources and wondered if I could skip using voicemeeter and I can with this! I'm so happy and used this and now I can listen to music and not get my vods muted. Thank you for this video since it helped me set it up so easily.
THANK YOU! Great video! Spent hours looking for a video wanted to listen to music while streaming without it being captured thanks!
Amazing video as always! Straight to the point, simple, well edited! No other channel like this when it comes to streaming help, honestly.
Hello! When adding audio sources, do you need to create a different source for every game you play? Or is there a way to have them all under one source?
ive been looking for this exact thing for almost 3 years now. your a life saver
you take it off the vod track...
@@rumiakiku6440 I just saw this now lmao. But do you happen to have a tutorial on how to do that? I don’t really stream regularly and don’t know my way around Twitch and OBS 😅 It would be much appreciated!
@@rumiakiku6440 How?
Hey, great video but I do have one concern... With this method, does that mean that you have to add one audio source for each game that you play too? So if you're gonna stream a new game you either have to set that up beforehand or do it on stream?
I had the same thought. But if you make another app audio capture and select the same music source (or whatever audio youre trying to keep separate), there is a check box "capture all audio except the selected window", check that.
Unfortunately I'm not sure if you can repeat this for every application you want separated.

So you don't have to add a source for each game.

you're a life saver, im going to record all these tracks seperately so i can edit them all at any point however i like. insane quality boost to whatever im making
After i click add source it doesn’t work i see no audio source added
Will this separate audio sources in the mp4 file too?
It will, you'll need to enable all the audio tracks in OBS recording settings, and then in Advanced Audio Properties, check each source to record to a different track.
So happy about this! I have a Scarlett Solo running a Shure mic and every time I would setup Voicemeter it would make my mic have static every time. Glad I can finally circumvent it. Thanks for the video!

@@harrychristopher8548 I'm actually not sure. I've tried a few things, but none of them worked. My only idea would be to output through headphones and just not wear them, but I admit, that most likely is also where your game audio is being played through.

I love that this is so much easier than all the other bs I went through before. The only downside is that I can't get Mix It Up in the list of executables for some reason, but otherwise it works as intended.

I tried and searched long and hard for this, thanks a lot this cured my fix
Thank you! This was very helpful! I was going to do a challenge on discord with one of my friends and this is JUST what I needed!
So very helpful, little bit of a difference after adding the Application Audio Source but with a little testing I figured it out.
Masterful guide, and surprisingly quite short for the amount of detail. Very well done!
This guide was exactly what I was looking for, and was so easy to follow along with. Thank you so much for this!
Im confused so how do I add just a stand alone source for say game audio? Or do I need to add all game audio separately via the mixer, in testing I have game audio running thru output capture but then I can also see that my music audio is still running in that source too even though it's a browser source
You are a legend! And the Win-Capture-Audio Plugin creator is Epic!
