The second Balkan war was basically a big "NO U" moment to Bulgaria by literally every single one of it's neighbours (except the Black Sea).

Alternative history: if this war had been supported by Russia, and had freed Constantinople and both sides of the vital sea route, then WW I would have been unnecessary? The presence of a Muslim majority in Albania and Kosovo is still a problem today.

Kosovo at that time didn't exist as a country, the map is poorly done. Kosovo literally is just a south province in Serbia, check the maps from 1300's.

I dont know why this video says the ottomans were on a downward trend since the 15th century. The 1500s or 16th century is when they were at there peak.. And they were very strong throughout.. I would say there military was on a downward trend since the late 1600s..and this was mainly because they tried to be more European, as well as giving slave woman lots of rights.. Basically peace time started to change the ottoman way of life...and so expansion stopped,,and they started to try and marry into families instead of conquering.

Maybe they've got it from Turkish historians. The expansion of the Ottomans stopped right after and some even say during the reign of Suleiman The Magnificent. The economy stagnated and it is said that the inflation also sky rocketed during his reign. What was the golden age of Ottoman art and literature was also the downfall of it's military and conquests. What's weird is that in the west most consider Suleiman the best and most influential sultan meanwhile in Turkey if that topic is brought up we mostly say it's Mehmed the conquerer or Selim the first. Selim the first only reigned about 8 years but during his reign he conquered syria, lebanon, iraq, egypt, jordan and the holy cities of Jerusalem,Mecca and Medina. Also with the battle of chaldiran he defeated the safavids and later entered the Iranian capital of Tabriz in triumph. After his death, his son Suleiman the Magnificent had a full war chest with all the gold and wealth of the middle east. I would say the downfall trend was from 1520 onwards ,so after Selim's death.

@@bumin7095 you made some good points,, but they were still very strong throughout the 1600s,, even though they weren't expending.

I do not know how those who say that the Ottoman state weakened after the 17 th century, yes, it was not as strong as before , which was the strongest in the world, where all the European countries gathered to balance their forces with it,, but it did not weaken to the point of colonization or disintegration, and it has withstood and maintained its position until The 19th century, when nationalism, betrayals and divisions began to occur, and other forces such as France, Britain and Russia.... etc take the chance and attacked them. If they were weak before that, they would have fallen earlier ....

As there was comments of the turkish side and probably of the rest, I will point out what we know and expected from the war as Bulgarians. It is very repeated and there is going to be someone to point out their side but I'm more conserned of what we know and probable geopolitics were. First for what reasons probably Balkan states fought. Serbia didn't have large groups of their people left in the Ottoman empire except Kosovo at the time and the region bordering it, what it concerned Bulgaria is that serbians weren't present more or less at all in Northern Macedonia but still made a deal "for the common good" as it couldn't be really trusted after they started a war in 1885 for bullshit reasons and claims. It was obvious even then that Serbia wishes to be a player and not like in Medieval times most of it to pass as a weaker state and Bulgaria was the most danger. Montenegro acted as a second Serbian state more or less, if anything they should have made a union sooner but distance was kept I guess. Greece wanted to return the Byzantine power as much as possible and it formed around the "Megali idea", their biggest trouble at first would be Bulgaria and what Greece sees as their teritories in Macedonia. There is still fighting over how much bulgarians were in Macedonia in Southern part but the Northern was obvious and to any cartographer dealing with nationalities since 1842. Southern part Greeks due to pride and their "feel" for right and glory wouldn't just admit defeat, even if there were a lot of Bulgarians. In Ottoman times would try to convert the people using the church and spreading the greek cuture and language but that only started the conflict. As you can see already Bulgaria was kinda in the way and even if it's interests based only on where there are Bulgarians was more reasonable it played into the fears of the other states as this would mean dominant Bulgaria as a whole, like they already militarise like crazy so better use the opportunity of the Balkan war and get more and Bulgaria would eat it later. Serbia didn't honour the deal ( muh the Great Powers took our teritories in Albania muh not fare then😥 /note bitchy/ we were supposed to be brothers and not create conflict over our people but ok, you either way went for Bosnia and started WW1 ). Greece was obvious and both signed an alliance against Bulgaria. Romania was there to confirm for sure our defeat and Turkey was there to not lose Edirne even tho it breaks a truce, but I'm not sure how bad it is if you do that.
Results Bulgaria from mistrust to Serbia started hating it, political elite of Bulgaria was more or less fine with diplomacy but as I see it Serbia well played being dirty and later had the audacity to start a saying for us in WW1 for being "backstabbers", bitch please ( haven't seen it spammed much in recent times ).
Greece continued the ethnic conflict in the land as we did too which caused immigration but that started more after WW1 and their play then now has the privilege to look into autistic slavic "macedonians" with the help of their "allies" and Tito. ( most friendly from the rivals, very nice now )
Romania never was interested into Bulgarian territory, mostly in Dobrujia but that was cleared out and there was more reasoning there and it could be seen today how understanding are people and close.
Turkyie is Turkyie, they just kicked a lot of Bulgarians, so not to have the danger of loosing lands to a bigger minority, and took their property without paying anything for it.
Bulgarians were bitter and were glad after this to fight with a cause agianst anyone agaisnt San Stefano Bulgaria. Bulgarians fought with vigor on a level unlike the rest and that will won battles.
Thank you if you read the essay. Note Serbs and Greeks, I have seen your history and read it for interest as a whole, that gives me understanding more or less but that doesn't stop me from pointing out what was probably going on even if you will never belive you can be a baddie. The only baddie in History until now who was put into the place of baddie is Germany and they live for the guilt 🤨

Turkish progress was halted by the constant fratricide in the Ottoman royal family. When they were expanding, they were technically progressive, but conservative Islam strangled this. Europe only grew because there was less fratricide in their royal families, and both Catholicism and Protestantism were pushed back.

Look up "Buzludzha", built on the site of one of these battles in central Bulgaria. It was built by the Bulgarian Communist Party in the cold war period, it was going to be their headquarters but is a pretty incredible sight on the top of a mountain.

What needs to be understood here is that the region was always under some form of occupation and every country claims the rest of the Balkans are their teritorry. Thats why all 3 - Bulgaria, Greece and Serbia wanted to get Macedonia (region). Way later when Soviet "rulled" the Balkans Macedonia was signed off to be part of the Yugoslavia and was assimilated there... forcefully

The Ottomans decline was much like that of the Romans that started after the end of the reign of the Good Emperors and the end of the Pax Romana. After the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent the Sultanate reverted back to the infighting during succession that often happened during the early days of the Ottoman Empire. But this was also coupled up with a now corrupt bureaucracy and Army, exhaustive wars against Saffavid Persia(of which many Sultans used as a way to gain military achievements with no real gains as the borders between Persia and the Ottomans remained the almost the same as they were during the end of Suleyman's reign) and their defeat at Lepanto by the Holy League with contributors like the powerful Charles V, King of Spain and Holy Roman Emperor and Venice that broke Ottoman naval dominance in the Mediterranean. The Janissaries the most elite force in the Ottoman Empire often revolted seeking concessions from successive Sultans that eventually led to their purge and abolition. By mid 18th century, Austria had already reconquered much of Hungary and Russia was encroaching on Ottoman Crimea.
Knowledgia has covered the entire history of the Ottoman Empire 1299-1922.

12:30 As you can see the Greek,Serbian and Montenegrin man were watching the Bulgarian one with hate and jealousy, while the Bulgarian welcomes them with pleasure and thinking that there will be a fair deal, but the Serbs and the Greeks did not think the same, so they secretly created a pact with each other against Bulgaria, and even if Bulgaria was not Attacking during the second Balkan war, Serbia and Greece would attack Bulgaria no matter what

Suuuure, you guys were so benevolent and friendly towards us and were shamelessly betrayed and attacked in 1913. Except that you were the ones who attacked, without a declaration of war a few days after the war against the Turks. I won't sit here and ckaim that you werent fucked over in tge macedonian issue, but you are quick to forget that you had pledged support to serbias claims in albania, but when the western powers snubbed us you stayed quite. So we chose to dig down in vardar macedonia where we werent supposed to be fighting but we did as you had your hands full in Thrace. Dont you think that we saw the threat of you becoming the undisputed regional Balkan power with the largest population and strongest army? You have an naive view on Bulgarias ambitions in those days and you were an threat to your former allies with your german pro austrian king sidelining us in your bilateral dealings. You act as we the rest didnt fight the turks and should be happy to follow your politics for some reason. Get off your high horse and realize that you were shady as fuck aswell during those days

The Ottomans were in constant decline after the late 1600s the single event used to mark this is the "Great Turkish War" probably their greatest defeat in their history. Though it wasn't a straight line downwards and the great Turkish war didn't single handedly cause this but it did play a role and the largest factor second only to the industrialization of Europe.
