    Every time I hear this score, I find it hard to believe that Howard Shore, the guy who played sax for Canadian band Lighthouse, the guy who wore a giant bee suit on Saturday Night Live, the guy who scored Demi Moore's awful "Striptease," could somehow deliver a score this consistently inspired and unbelievably powerful. It's really hard to deliver a symphonic score this powerful and not sound like a John Williams clone. Howard Shore delivered something so completely different from anything happening in Hollywood, and I'll forever be in his debt for putting music to the Professor's words and worlds.

    • @snoopywriter3643
      @snoopywriter3643 4 года назад +29

      His score for Hugo is great too. I think just like John Williams before Jaws, Shore was waiting for the chance to do something that allowed him to stretch his wings and fly.
      Such a beautiful score... I both trilogies as one score.

      I recently watched the cult horror flick Videodrome.
      Surprisingly that was Howard Shore too.
      The person who should really write more scores is Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish.

    I'm at the last page of the hobbit chapter 10 a warm welcome. It's my first time reading. The people are singing for the Return of the King. The elves retreat home. The master of the town and his councillors provide many ships and poneys and provisions. As the brave small dwarfs and hobbit that I have read this entire journey are sailing up the mountain into near certain death. The start of this song fits it perfectly.

      The full thing is:
      Far over the misty mountains cold
      To dungeons deep and caverns old
      We must away ere break of day
      To seek the pale enchanted gold
      The dwarves of yore made mighty spells
      While hammers fell like ringing bells
      In places deep, where dark things sleep
      In hollow halls beneath the fells
      For ancient king and elvish lord
      There many a gleaming golden hoard
      They shaped and wrought, and light they caught
      To hide in gems on hilt of sword
      On silver necklaces they strung
      The flowering stars, on crowns they hung
      The dragon-fire, in twisted wire
      They meshed the light of moon and sun
      Far over the misty mountains cold
      To dungeons deep and caverns old
      We must away ere break of day
      To claim our long-forgotten gold
      Goblets they carved there for themselves
      And harps of gold; where no man delves
      There they lay long, and many a song
      Was sung unheard by men or elves
      The pines were roaring on the height
      The winds were moaning in the night
      The fire was red, it flaming spread;
      The trees like torches blazed with light
      The bells were ringing in the dalr
      And men looked up with faces pale;
      The dragon's ire more fierce than fire
      Laid low their towers and houses frail
      The mountain smoked beneath the moon;
      The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom
      They fled their hall to dying fall
      Beneath his feet, beneath the moon
      Far over the misty mountains grim
      To dungeons deep and caverns dim
      We must away ere break of day
      To win our harps and gold from him

      I think he would love what Peter Jackson did with the movies. I think he would be a little annoyed that Thorin is not old enough but I think he would get used to it and understand why he did (he did it because he did not want an old man to work so hard), I also think he would like the cartoon in 1977 but in full honesty I think he would love all of the movies.

      I think overall he would have enjoyed the original trilogy (not so much the hobbit trilogy), but there was something lost to the story in the 3rd film when they returned to a pristine Shire... in the books they returned to a scoured shire to mirror how when soldiers come home from war, sometimes it's not the same home they left.

    • @rikk319
      @rikk319 2 года назад +8

      @@rkat I think Peter Jackson had to sacrifice something, as a film made by a major studio isn't going to accept a six hour run time to fit every nuance in. But he did a wonderful thing with the scene of the four hobbits sitting in the Green Dragon, as the other hobbits there joked and chatted, oblivious to the experiences, pain, and joys that the returning, unsung heroes had lived through with the other heroes of Middle-Earth. It was the plight of the veteran of war, who cannot adequately relate what they have been through, to a non-veteran. The silent looks they all give one another before their toast says it all. I think Tolkien would have understood that scene very well, and thanked Jackson for it.

Not dogging Howard Shore and the films at all, but there is music inspired by the books that well predates the films and adds to the collection of works that the Lord of the Rings inspires.

    @AmbientWorlds I thank you personally for this channel and your videos. I've listened to many since I have been down here in the brutal heat of Arizona on a trip to take care of my father's estate since he passed last year. Your videos have helped me sleep at night until we return to Vegas again soon. Thank you.

    “All that is gold does not glitter,
    Not all those who wander are lost;
    The old that is strong does not wither,
    Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
    From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
    A light from the shadows shall spring;
    Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
    The crownless again shall be king.”

    The music is wonderful, I feel like that I am in the company of Thorin now.
    When I go to sleep listening, I imagine being there and helping them.
    Sometimes I dream, it is me being Thorin's one(dwarves find their one by having feelings). Sleeping next to him by the fire, be by his side and live each other.
    Sometimes I think that, we are in the mountain and sleeping in the bed of furs and staying warm knowing that we have the mountain back.
    Having four boys though, they are Thain, Frerin( after Thorin's brother), Torin and Dorin.
    The heirs of Durin's Folk and the thorne of Erebor who will carry Thorin's legacy when they are grown up to be King.

    I really love your videos, i am using em for rpg sessions and they really help set the scene. I hate the weather effects either, sometimes they make a scene, when the eventures try to cross the misty mountains and a storm rears its ugly face or when they look at the white city as the heavens opens up.
    I would love it if u could upload one with and one without the weather effects (birds, rain, wind) and one without. because listening to this wind for 4-5 hours might be overdoing it a bit.
    again i am grateful that u made these and uploaded em so please don't bite my head off.

    • @TheKingElessar1
      @TheKingElessar1 5 лет назад

      Yeah, I agree. It seems like the weather effects would be easy to remove and switch out, so they should release multiple videos with different effects (and one completely without, of course).
