    A small but significant detail about cpus and vrm temperature is the TBP, not the TDP. The i9-9900k is indeed of 95w TDP, but it can go up to 240watts... I could be wrong, but that's like 160 amps, or 20 amps per module in 8+2 vrm designs. I don't know if using better thermal solution could help, but I'm sure it's trouble.

    Having reviewed your results, the discrepancy between the i9-9900k on the B360 and Z390 amounts to 3.2% in favour of the Z390, I’d hardly call this significant even if the chokes on the 360 are running at high temperatures, if we factor in the lack of overclocking on the 360, then the question of value over a 9600K is obviously more significant. However, a 9900K still yields a near 100% gain over the 9600K (on the 360) in Cinebench (multi-thread) which I would have thought translate very well into video encoding and other similarly processor intensive tasks, so there clearly remains an advantage to running it on a middle-tier motherboard….but, if you’d have thrown a 8700k or 9700k into the mix……

Everything stays under 70c with a NH-D12L fan when underload, i get around 180 less points in the cinebench than the average score for a 9900kf, which isnt that bad. Nice video. I’ve been patiently waiting for one of you to review how the z370 boards handle the 9th gen CPU’s? A lot of people upgraded when the 8th generation came out. The ability to throw a 9th gen cpu in our existing motherboards is a nice quick upgrade... should we do it? Would we get the same experience as a new z390 board? If this is something you’re interested in doing please throw the ASRock z370 Taichi into the mix. Keep up the good work!

    Asus prolly knew nobody would put that cpu on this mobo. That cpu pulls alot of power

    If the motherboard can't run a CPU at default settings without being a fire hazard or losing performance it shouldn't support it in the 1st place. Take a Ryzen 2700x and pop it into B350 motherboard with the latest BIOS and it will run great at default settings without losing performance, other than maybe some hot VRMs.

    Putting that 9900k in a b360 MOBO should be illegal !!!!

      FYI if you would have used a quility b360 MOBO it would have been a lot better (better VRM MOBO than ASUS dogshit)

    what about inside of a case? the vrms would probably still be melting but would it move it away from the throttling if it had air flow moving over it vs an open test bed. or is it just the board cant handle that many watts pulled? 85 c external temps on a vrm component could be alot hotter internally which is probably what you ended up seeing. really shows the 9900k is quite the monster to be put on to consumer boards and they want to try and do 10 cores next OwO

    This is the EXACT problem that I've been having with my 8700k since I bought it. Don't get me wrong I'm on a pretty high end z370 board from MSI, no idea which one though and I do not have the time to check, but due to radiator clearance and subsequent airflow, my VRM's aren't really being cooled by anything. They get really hot and then I power throttle hard. Even though the system doesn't know that's happening. The only solutions are to stick a fan on the VRM's which I did for a while and that helped or to get a full cover waterblock, which I did plan on doing before the 9900K came out. So now I'm going to be upgrading at the end of the month. So, problem avoided I guess.

    If the consumer is uninformed enough to plop a $550 CPU into a b series motherboard they aren't the type of person to be able to tell the difference anyway.
    I'd be more concerned about greedy system builders doing this.

      indeed. he got the expected stock results around 2k at Turbo PL2, then around 1400 once its at base clock after a few runs normally about 20 seconds of load will drop to base clock as spec'd by intel. 2200 might be some MCE score but not stock

    Thank you so much for the information bro, This totally made an eye-opener as a gamer/developer of what to upgrade for my motherboard and what is the kind of CPU specifically for my motherboard without sacrificing or destroying the crucial parts of my MSI B360M Mortar. My Samsung NVME Gen 3 is quite expensive. If I don't think and read wisely from other experiences especially showing me real-life data's then it's my PC Riggs Funeral which I know everyone doesn't want to happen to their Riggs since we are at the pandemic Covid Variant Era.

    I just got a 9900K and even a Z370 TUF mobo couldn’t handle it; still had a trash 4-phase VRM with heatsinks on it. Substituted it with a used ASUS Prime Z390-A w/8-phase VRMs and they can handle 180W load without getting close to throttling.

    • @React2Quick
      @React2Quick 5 лет назад +1

      Well it's not necessarily cheaping out on the board. As it was stated in the video, this B360 board is the most expensive one for the B360 lineup offered by ASUS. Usually B series boards are considered a more budget conscious choice because you can still get decent performance for your CPU with them. You just cant overclock them (excluding AMD B series boards). If you got something like a 9900K you would probably want something like a Z390

    You could try the B360 with these: How much does a fan pointing at the VRM help? (500-800-1200-2500-extreme rpm, try finding a sensor in hwinfo, way superior to hwmonitor or use the probe) Is it possible to not trigger the VR thermal alert then? And finally: can you set tdp limits in the bios so that the cpu matches Z390 performance?

  • @Visentinel
    @Visentinel 5 лет назад

    Just keep in mind just a phase count doesn't equals the vrm quality, you can have high end and low end 4 phase 6 or even a trash 8 phase or amazing 8 phase.

    Are you formatting the drive for this test, chipset drivers will cripple the system if they are not compatible.
    If you had the z390 drivers installed then swapped out the motherboard and used the same z390 drivers for your b360 board, its not going to run well.

  • @ninezerofive
    @ninezerofive 5 лет назад

    Well 9600k without hyperthreading will beat 9900k in some games and it doesn't even matter what boards it's on. If 9600k is overclocked and game engine doesn't use more core /thread than 6/6. People are bombarded with this 9900k are ultimate gaming CPU crap, when in reality 9700k is. And I can bet that 9700k on B360 can beat 9900k on z390 if they both are overclocked to same Mhz.

    nope. you wil NOT have more than 2100 cb on i9 9900k at stock settings, unless you clock it 5.00ghz or higher. My 9900k at default, on a Gigabyte Z390 Gaming-X, does 2080 cb. all that with temps lower than yours (at around 68 degrees), with an Deepcool Assasin II + Arctic Mx-4.
