Had 77 firebird in from norwich ct,-had salt air and salt/ snow in winter roads, it still ran at 155k with original 400 and rebuilt trans but after ten years you could could poke a bic pen anywhere on rear quarter next to the lights and it poked through soft metal into the trunk. floors and rockers were rough but they were reliable, the 80 model and up had small improvements. If it was washed and waxed regularly and parked in a garage it lasted longer but cars a decade later even with all the plastic parts there was a world of difference with rust protection.

In spite of all these anti-corrosion technologies, the vehicles made during this era were notorious for rusting.

Anyone noticed at the 20 second mark, those three magic letters on the quarter panel behind him? GTO 🙀
I'd take that GTO no matter the condition. It's a shame that anyone would junk a GTO.

Rust never sleeps
Holy crap! A lot of the cars in the junkyards in this video were under 10 years old
Yes! That 69 GTO! How's that possible?
@@44magnum73 very poor quality I guess
The fuck is a "boot leg pocket"?!
Guessing the gap between the fender well and firewall? It's a common spot for dirt rinsed down from the wiper skuttle to accumulate.
Ya know now day put dat true coat on at da factory.
"so they retain their crisp appearance"...... a crime against those blessed with the gift of vision i believe
Some of those junked cars were in pretty bad shape, and they were only 9 or 10 years old.
