  • My impressions/review of House of the Dragon's second season, with healthy helpings of sarcasm and theatrics; welcome to the channel if you're new - we're here to have a laugh - even if it involves me criticising the world of Asoiaf. Having read all the books three times over, I'll never be anything but honest about the shows Highs and Lows in equal measure, even if it upsets you haha.

I’m so confused about Rhaenys. On the one hand, she is a badass, but on the other she constantly cries about how shitty men are. They are struggling with her character’s purpose right now imo

If you listen to Behind the Scenes that actress talks pretty regularly about "the patriarchy" and that clearly leaks into the character - it's rather hypocritical from the dragonrider with the biggest kill count so far 🤣

Well, for me, it keeps getting worse. In this rate, when “the realms delight” dies, she will be seen as the most benevolent ruler the kingdom could ever have hoped for, if it weren’t for those damn greens! Especially by the blacks fans who only watched the show. And everything is the men’s fault! Because patriarchy! 🙄 Rhaenyra going to see Alicent was really unnecessary, so stupid. They took a huge dump on Rhaenys character. I liked her in the book. And the Velaryons makes me think of the Vikings Valhalla show. Not blaming the actors, I like Steve Toussaint. Hopefully, Rooks Rest is around the corner!

Yeah I'm not a fan of the "Rhaenyra is always Right" narrative; hoping Rooks Rest is Very good - this episode was mediocre and felt like we could've skipped it entirely and lost nothing of value heh

5:40 My current guess based on the changes we've seen is that Rhaena will be the one to bond with sheepstealer and she'll do it on the way to the Eyrie and so the Arryns will get their dragon protector.

I can see them introducing Daeron in the last episode of this season, they usually do the big battle/cliff-hanger of the season on the penultimate episode and then setup the next season in the last so I can see Rooks Rest being episode 4 and then the taking of Kings Landing in episode 7 before Daeron appears in episode 8.

It'll be a shame since Sheepstealer is Supposed to be won over Slowly over Time via offerings of sheep to win her trust; not randomly on a whim 😆

The whole prophecy thing has basically ruined the entire series before it even really started. That one change has decimated any ability for this conflict to be "grey", and they haven't been doing anything after the reveal to help that fact. It is just "men being mad" (justified for Aegon) and the weak and sad smallfolk and women that will suffer for it. That is the entire message they are going for, at the end of the series, Rhaenyra will be lauded as a hero or unsung victim, some shit like that. I'm dropping the series from here, and I hope more people do.

It annoyed me that the "prophecy" thing didn't come from Torrhen Stark, if it was going to come from anyone; have it be the reason Torrhen knelt to Aegon - telling him about the reason Starks say Winter Is Coming and how Torrhen was a Greenseer that knew Westeros had to be united. Would've been a better approach if it Had to be done...
Rhaenyra, knowing this (if she wasn't so selfish) should've offered a Great Council to decide. It amuses me the idea isn't even suggested, for all the talk of "oh we must avoid war" nobody on Rhaenyra's side suggests it - because they know the Realm would vote for Aegon.

I agree with your points. These 3 episodes have been extremely boring, with what felt as filler dialogue. Even that short scene with the riders on the open field was more captivating than the rest of the episode. And the final scene in the Sept? was a complete waste of time, 0 progression. What was the point to even mention the Song of Ice and Fire lmao.
The black faction has only one option, start moving the pieces and take action or renounce the claim. Both factions play around as if the dragons are nuclear weapons, thus fearing to take bold initiatives. I am hopeful we will get to see a lot more action and/or widening on character introductions.

It's certainly been dragged out 2 episodes too long. If Rhaenyra was so concerned about the deathtoll and consequences then she'd step down or suggest a Great Council to Alicent; that would have at least given a REASON to meet at the Sept - but no she goes with 0 plan just to insult Alicent's children and arrogantly tell Her to set aside HER pride when Rhaenyra is nothing but Pride. You want peace? Great Council. The realm would choose Aegon lol

@@SoulGamesInc 100% , it would have been really catchy if the Great Council was arranged in ep 1 for then Daemon to pull the son for a son scheme without anyones knowledge, just before the big day, altering the balance to force the blacks for open war.

I think you’re missing the point. The point they’re making is that these events snowball into a genocidal war that stretches generations where nobody even knows what started it. It’s why they show the black woods and brackens to begin the episode because those two don’t even remember why they’re fighting and doing it because their fathers and mothers told them to hate one another. It’s why rhaenys makes that point that these bloodthirsty idiots (while she did kill people) have never experienced war and eager to kill one another, regardless of the initial causes. It’s a cycle that is dangerous.

    • @SoulGamesInc

It's impossible to miss their "point" when it has been repeated a thousand times over 2 episodes 🙄 I'm tired of hearing it - waxing poetic about spilt milk, the cast die; river crossed - the time for diplomacy passed when one son was eaten and another was murdered. War has been inevitable since Episode 1 and no amount of whining masked as wisdom will divert it short of one sides selfless surrdender (neither are selfless enough to do that) so whining about it for two whole episodes is at best tedious.
Bla bla, war bad, bla bla hatred, bla bla go talk to Alicent but don't bother compromising, bla bla neither side want war but neither side will compromise.
Robb Stark could've talked about the futility of war and the hubris of man for a thousand years, and maybe some might think him a wise scholar for these empty words - but those words would change nothing.
I am not impressed with idle chatter and false wisdom. The time for talk is Over.

@@SoulGamesIncTotally agree!! About time someone is honest about this show and not simply fan boying. The one battle in ep 3 was off screen. It’s like come on HBO at least give us that. Instead we get nonsensical blabbering about how war can be diverted when it’s glaringly obvious it can’t be! I practiced patience during season one, but it’s now time for WAR! Season 2 is only 8 episodes long and they’ve wasted the first 3 with more build up and political posturing. I’m hoping it’s all out war from ep 4 forward. Otherwise this show is a flop. The writers are overthinking this thing imo… too much forced drama and not enough action!
