Buddy!!! mortals play 10 - 25 handicap……. You single digit or better represent the top 5% of players. Tour guys are the the top 5% of you 5%. Love the humble approach but you are playing a level of golf that many of us aspire on a weekly basis to achieve and fall short. If your in single digits your a all out stud and good on you. The rest of us mortals are practicing and aspiring for that one round. Keep on playing thru my friend!!

Been playing 101's all year. Very happy with them. I don't have the speed to hit the 4 iron well, so I replaced it with a 5 hybrid. Other than that, no issues at all. Play just like the big boys at less than half the price. No regrets at all.

Hey Don, curious after a season what was the wear like? Are they wearing well? Highly considering a set this spring.
I ordered these based on you review. It took a little less than 4 weeks to recieve them, but I had them customized and feel that they still got here quickly. Well then Hurricane Debby came in and washed out last week. But got out there today and played them for the first time. WOW! They are forgiving, It took a minute to adjust from my Ping G410s (which I still love) but now I think I can lower my handicap some more. I shot an 82 with the Takomos today and I see great things in the future. Thanks Gabe....

These sticks really suited your swing! What strikes me about Takomo is they look more premium than other direct to consumer brands - even PXG. Shades of P790 with these babies!
I think your game is good enough to go the next step with their players irons, would be great to see how you play with them in future!
You’re right. It’s the distance factor that holds me back from hitting blades or player’s cavity backs. If I was a longer hitter I’d def go back to my Mizuno blades.

Try out the PXG 0211 ST blades I’m gaming these and I’m at 9.2 index HC. Very forgiving for a blade and workable.
Gabe.....Your ball striking is exceptional in this video (even more so than normal) all the way through the set!! Can't wait to see the super driver setup as you were smokin' that club also! I always enjoy your videos.

My son got me a set of these 101’s late last fall. I haven’t been able to play a “true” round with them yet as the few rounds I played were on fairways already starting to harden up from the cold weather. What you say about them feeling like butter is true though. Even on challenging surfaces like frozen fairways, they feel amazing.
Man, that first 6 iron shot was beautiful! Pretty much sold me with that shot. Killer!

So I just pulled the trigger on the 101's 4-PW KBS Tour Reg shafts and midsize grips standard loft and lie ! Can't wait to give them a go, I have an old set of Ping G10's that I fall back on from time to time, when I can play a lot and my swing gets grooved I play Ben Hogan's PTX pro forged irons , but I can't play as much as I want and I am also getting older and heavier lol , great review !

YÉ! YÉ! And YÉ!!! As one of the ones who posted to try these, I am SO happy to not only see you review but also have to say that was one awesome round you played! Takomo now makes a player's version of these called the 101T - same basic DNA with a shorter blade, slightly thinner top line and less offset, but just as sexy. Just thought I would mention that. BRAVO and thanks again for the review. Cheers!!! :=)
As someone that loves to build clubs, the Takomo brand is a dream come true. You mentioned that there are a limited shaft options, but the fact that they sell heads only makes that moot. The heads come in only .370 hosel, but that can be overcome with adapters (which I have done with a set of 201s). Love my Takomo clubs, including the driver.
Yes and I was able to find .370 ferules for the custom set I built, not too much of an issue really. What shafts did you use?
Hi abe great golf man! I have bought a set of these and couldn't be happier but two points in my experience one they came with a free matching cap and takomo towel and secondly from order to delivery here in the UK, even with a change in shaft choice on day 2 they arrived in the UK on day 12 amazing!!

Great round! I would be so interested in the 101t's. I might have to take the plunge and just do it.
Bought a set of Takomo 201’s. Similar price. Fully forged heads. Equally good looking and providing great feel. If you are a mid handicapper you might enjoy playing these more.
What are your thoughts a year later?
I tried searching through but I couldn't find the answer so I'll post it here... Has anyone seen a 301 CB or 301 MB video? You did such a good review with this one I hope that you did a review of the 201 or the 300 series clubs

I have a set of the 101 brought them heads only fitted some nippon neo golf shafts in them great clubs so you can build a set to suit you happy golfing from down under

I have skyforge wedges 52 and 56 and they are way consistent. I miss hit a ton but these wedges are consistent in yardage. Love these guys!!

I play P790’s and own a set of these I keep at a second home. They are absolutely amazing. Truly the best value in golf. Other than sound, I cannot tell the difference between these and my taylormade P790s.
What’s the size difference between 101 and 790. I like a thinner top line
Hi I finally got my custom fit irons callaway apex pro irons standard loe regular shafts half inch shorter OMG the difference is incredible very accurate hitting lots more greens handicap at start of season 4.8 went up to 8.2 1st competition round got cut to 7.9 so hopefully get down to scratch thanks bud

I wish I would have known about these clubs sooner. I bought some used 2020 Cobra Forged Tec irons, that I really like, but for close to the same price, I could have bought a brand new set of these.

For those of you who bought the 101 Irons, did you get charged an import fee when shipped to USA?
Nope
I bought a set of heads (I had some TT Elevate 95 shafts which are better for my hands) for a travel set. Played them once, and seemed pretty good the one time I played them. I don't need a 4 iron (I sold the head on eBay) and Takomo won't sell a GW head-- so I bought a New Level GW head--- they look nice. Whether it will replace my Mizuno Hot metals is another debate.
I look at these as sort of a P790 for economy cost.

Whats are the differences in launch and feel between KBS Max vs Tour Lite ?
You really were hitting those shots well. I'd like to see your opinion of the 201s as well. I have a buddy that is a relatively new golfer and is thinking of upgrading his beginner set and this might be the route for him to go. For the price I don't think there is anything better out there. I haven't heard a negative from anyone concerning these clubs.

Really enjoying what you’re putting out. If you are comparing the 101s to the cobra forged tec x, which were more forgiving and which were longer ( distance )? And have you had a chance to compare to the Wilson d9 forged?
How do these compare to something like a Ping G425, the Cobra Forged Tec X or the Rogue ST range? Obviously price wise these are way in front, how about in performance? Are they as forgiving with similar distances?
These look so good and perform in your hands well - but it's hard to make a call without being able to hit them.

I love them. I think they're right up there with all the clubs you mentioned. And the price??? Almost makes it a no brainer for me. Hey, tell you what, come out to October 1st event and I'll have them there for you to test.

Was wondering when you'd get to these irons. I was surprised they did not show up in your golf club ranking video. I must be the only one that does not really like the minimalist look. I prefer the look of irons like the Rogue or Stealth - a little more stylish to me....but I can see the draw. Plus I need all the help I can get and don't mind showing it either. Great review as usual though.

@letsplaythru I’m looking at the 101s and the 101Ts. I’m a terrible golfer. Good enough to contribute to the team and have fun in a scramble, but bad enough that breaking 100 is a good day for me. The 101s are probably the better choice for me, but I like the more blade look of the 101Ts. What are your thoughts on the differences for a hack such as myself? I just want to make the game as fun for myself as possible. Thank you!

Hey Gabe, in your "Club buying mistakes" video you suggested to try before you buy and to buy for performance, not looks. How does a guy try direct to consumer clubs before buying?
Yeah that’s the tough thing about DTC. Some allow you to buy a single club and that’s probably wise. If not, make sure they have a good return policy :)

I haven't played golf since 2007 with a 16 handicap. I want to get back into golf, I was considering the Wilson Launch Pad 2 since I don't want to spend hours at a driving range. Are these a good option?
What did you think of the metal? Had heard from a few people that it feels a little soft and be prepared for scuffs and dings.
Didn't seem to be an issue to me. I'm used to forge clubs getting all nicked up anyhow, but I don't think these would be overly fragile. They do have more of a satin finish on the face. But that's just aesthetic from what I can tell.

You must be in a very humid area, reminded me of my rounds in Upstate NY. I still keep a change of clothes in the trunk.
My concern is the breathing pattern, kinda out of breath starting at 3rd (?) hole, hope you work on the fitness and endurance, stick around awhile for us.

I don’t know how good their graphite shafts are…I’ve been a graphite player now for 5 years but I hit the steel fibers i95 R flex. Do you think I should try their kbs steel or go with their ventus for an up charge

I almost ordered those exact clubs Gabe. But I decided to go with the American made Sub 70 699 Pro set. Also a DTC company. You need to review those. They're very similar to the Tokoma irons. Great review.
Lots of folks like those Sub70s. I reached out to them last year and again this year to see if they would send a set to review. They weren't interested.

the thing I love about your videos is the weather which I'm jealous of and is fantastic, over all your reviews are very enjoyable BUT now your honest opinion when we look at these videos we see forgiving irons the launch of the new stealth HD come to mind along with the Wilson high launch as an high handicapper around 18 which was 28 a couple of month ago, over all should I go for forgiving irons or game improving irons, when testing these and I appreciate your comments your never sure who will view these videos, would you choose these over the p790 or the stealth over the p790 or the new Ping G 430 don't get me started on the paradym with all these to choose from which are best suited to my handicap and will improve my game I really don't want to cheat

@@LetsPlayThru there are so many options out there all claiming to be the best?, I don't want game forgiving irons I want game improving irons, my games improving at a good rate with a set of Burner 2s which are around 11 years old. I'm leaning towards the p790s but clubs like those takomo and by the way your review on these was by far the best throw a spanner in the works due to the comments being said. With that in mind at a price which is less than half of the p790s is it wort taking the punt? as you can't test the takomo is a concern funny enough another club which as caused a bit os a stir and there are a few good reviews out there are the new Ram fx77s which retail at £299 anyway buddy enjoy your trip enjoy your golf and keep them videos coming may the sun shine on you always when playing

To me the 101’s look more like a bladed players iron the the 201’s, lol. The 101’s almost look perfect honestly. I’m hitting Mizunos but would proudly have these in the bag
Excellent. Video Gabe!!! Hitting them great with the 101’s!! In your opinion how would you compare the feel, sound and look to more premium clubs you have tested like forge tec and mizuno 225? If you didn’t know the price, would anything change about your feelings about the clubs?
I think they hold up against anything out there. Blindfolded I’d have guessed I was swinging something 2x or 3x the price.
I would consider a set of 201’s for second set. Just a note that you can just purchase the heads and build your own customs. Great video. You were striking them well.

Is it better to go with a new set of 101’s or go with an older used set of Ping G series, Taylormade M2, Titleist Ap1 718, Mizuno Jpx 919, etc. so many irons to sort through…
Tough to say without knowing your game / swing / etc. If you can, I'd recommend going out to a store and trying as many as you can. Then you can start to narrow down what you like and dislike.

Would love to see more looks at how irons look at address maybe vs the 7 iron of your gamer set or something? I know for me at address is the most important thing for me with an iron

That’s a great question. Certainly there are some tables online you can use based on your swing speed. But you might just want to go to a local Golf Shop and see what they would fit you into. Then just take that suggestion or closest equivalent with the options these DTC brands carry.
