Daebak! I love hearing your perspectives on BTS videos. Here in America, we see their videos and say, "NOBODY in the US music industry makes videos like this anymore!" And of course, no one in America has made ANYTHING this experimental and global, with so much pride in their culture that I remember, and I was a teenager when MTV started, so I've pretty much seen them all!

I was a VH1 mania around 1998-2000, especially the "Behind the Music" series. I think BTS is already starting to make positive influence to the US music industry, but would love to see BTS more on the American TV. Thanks for your comment!

The symbolism and meaning is so complex and spans so many years. HYYH narrative (fictional story developed withing their content). It's an unraveling story line within their MVs and other videos, dropping hints in any content of theirs. Everything down to the lyrics, choreography, clothing, and objects in their music videos are linked together. Their narrative is filled with references and symbolism to postmodern literature, existentialism, surrealism such as Murakami, Kafka, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, philosophical and mythological paradigms, psychological concepts (Freud, Jung and the Vienna school). They even reference subconsciousness, dream-states, making the story a creative multidimensional masterpiece. There's more to BTS' music if you look deeper. You'll be amazed by what you find. You should look into the Bangtan Universe.

Yeah Yuji has greae aesthetics! Just wanted to mention though, Yuji participated in Shangri-La as an assistant director. I think the main director for that project was Kim, Woo-Je 👍 I hope there isn't a misunderstanding 😉
I absolutely love how this reaction pointed out all the different cultural and global symbolism in the MV. It gives you a whole new perspective on the MV and just how amazing BTS is not only to pull off such a crazy and bold concept but how they're able to integrate so many different cultural aspects into it, especially since it's not very common amongst other kpop groups :))
Love the commentary! Honestly I loved BTS comeback song IDOL in the first listen...and usually with other songs I have to listen to the song multiple times so that it would appeal to me but not with BTS and especially not with IDOL it is just a legendary song I honestly heard it more than 100 times the first day hahaha😂

아이돌은 한국에선 아이들에겐 우상이지만 문화계에선 폄하의ㅡ대상이기도 하지요. 시스템은 본인들이 만들어 놓고 모든 비난은 아이돌들이 들었고요. 이제 방탄은 아이돌이라는 곡처럼 자신들의 처지 또는 정체성을 인지 수긍하고 더 나은 내일을 향하는 방탄의 다짐 인 것 같습니다
전엔 힙합돌이길 원했던 방탄들의 모습을 보곤 했었는데 이번 아이돌을 계기로 재탄생한 방탄이 아이돌을 어디까지 올려 놓을지 궁금합니다
아이돌로서 자긍심을 가지고 누가 뭐래도 자신의 음악을 하겠다는 방탄을 무한지지 합니다

비난보단 문화의 양면성이라고 말할 수도 있죠.
자신들이 만든 문화를 좋아하면서도 부족하거나 편중된게 아닌가 하는 의심이라고나 할까?
아마도 아이돌 문화를 나쁘게 생각한다기 보다는 아마도 문화 편중, 장르 편중을 경계하는 마음이겠죠...
아이돌 자체를 비난하는 문화는 요즘 거의 없죠... 그냥 다양성이 부족한 대한민국의 편중된 문화현상에 대한 경계라고 봅니다.

Apparently the reason why the mv is vibrant is to mock those who keep saying negative things about kpop. Things like "Kpop mv is full low quality CG" "kpop MV is messy too much color" "I can't watch kpop mv, there's so many people"
Hence, they use all critism in this video to show that whatever they did, they still can succeed

They released a behind-the-scenes video of the music video shoot on BANGTANTV, and they actually built most of it. It's mostly just the background that's CG, and the scenes in which they create copies of themselves. It's INSANE.
