- I’m fixing the rear windshield wiper washer nozzle on our 2004 Mini Cooper R50. The dealer wanted $400 to fix this...I think we can do better. I can hear the pump trying to spray fluid, but nothing comes out.
Thanks to ECS Tuning for shipping out the replacement part so quickly.

After searching all kinds of videos telling me to dismantle my wife's '04 mini I luckily came across yours, exactly the same fault as yours, even down to the broken cap. All sorted now! Many thanks, keep these great, helpful and fun videos coming. Cheers from the UK :)
Thanks mate, happy to hear that this video helped you out. I couldn't find any videos on a proper fix either...so I made my own :)
Appreciate the video! Did the drilling bit you provided....my wiper cover/nozzle was also broken....was able to pick up same day at a Mini dealership. Works like a charm now. I also have a 2004 Mini...JCW MC40 Rallye Edition.
Nice work indeed! Very helpful instructions. I had the same problem and the only thing was that it needed a good cleanup inside with the drill. It wasn’t even necessary to change anything!
Many thanks!
Another thing to look at (before buying a new rear cover) is the tiny washer that should be there. The broken off plastic is definitely a problem, but only because you are missing the tiny washer that should be present. So when removing it, it will most likely break one of the three plastic arms, but if you take care to ensure the washer doesn't fall out, is cleaned and put back in, it would also work out fine without buying a new cap!
Hei I have to say Thank you for your video. I fixed my rear window spray by myself based upon your video. Thank you!!
Thanks so much for this tip, just tried it on my Mini R50 2005 and in 5minutes the job was done ! Sorted :) YAY !
You're the reason I make these videos. Glad I could help you out ;)
Thanks brilliant explanation and fix helped me here in Brighton in the U.K
Omg what a great video! Informative, helpful, creative, funny AND cool. I have a red 2004 Mini Cooper with a rear wiper nozzle issue and this video helped SO much. (I think I just need a new nozzle cap now.) Keep up the awesome vids and THANKS!
This vid is really helpful, thanks. Just cleaned the jet area out with wire and a load of gunk and water came out, as with yours. Will also need the new part like you did as it is missing this. Unfortunately still no water spraying out - I can hear the pump working so I guess it must be a hose problem somewhere along the system, so need to look into that now.
This solution worked perfectly. I first used a 1/16" drill by hand only, and then a 5/64" bit again by hand only until it spun freely. Lots of dirt and sediment came out. At that point, I used the 5/64" bit with the drill for a couple of seconds. One note: I have a 2004 Mini with the same type of nozzle as the video. I noticed that this type of nozzle changed in mid-2004 to a different style altogether. The newer nozzle has a 90 degree bend. If you remove this nozzle, it might still be possible to use the drill bit method by cleaning from both ends.
I'm happy to hear that this method worked for you!
Love the drawings - missed the drill sketch :) Thanks, really simple and highly useful
Excellent video. Thanks.
Great video and solution for my Mini Cooper S rear wash wipe problem.
I'm glad to hear that it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
Very helpful. Thanks! I also like ECS Tuning,
Good stuff- my flow-rate is poor but generally sufficient to put SOME washer-fluid on the screen- but, not flow this weekend and water coming out of the bottom of the cover, like yours. Ive had all this apart last summer and my problem is that theres many different materials clogging the pipe that feeds it from the front bottle- I've even had another pump rigged up and lugged into the line that comes out of the bottle and feeds the rear. But, I cant flush it out and to replace the hose from front to back means dropping the roof-lining, as the hose is in with the wiring that fees the high level brake light and other electrics. However, your vid reminded me what to look for and Ill end up buying a cover if mines broken or the rubber seal isn't doing its job! Thanks.
Mine isn't working well, but my Mini Countryman has a different nozzle, so I'll have to try to trouble shoot it like you did. Thanks for the video!!
Ha! Hilarious. For mine, the block turned out to be at the inside end. It’s about a 10cm long tube/axle thingy. So I ended up having to disassemble the whole wiper motor. And it was leaking through into the wiper motor then into the trunk/boot and accumulated in the battery box. Can of worms! Although several problems fixed in one go. Can see why dealer would quote to replace the whole wiper motor.
I'm not sure I understand you correctly. I thought the wiper motor for the rear window is housed in the back panel, rear of vehicle. If you initially had no issues with the front jet sprayer, and you're saying that it also "accumulated in the battery box"? Then, this should tell us that the washer reserviour for the front window is shared with the rear window. Making the other reserviour independently used for the front headlight washer?
@@n.g.1577 Oh, I see. Good point. No, mine is an R53/cooper S, so the battery is in the boot/trunk. They got pretty obsessive on weight distribution for the R53, with battery dead centre at rear, exhaust split into 2 even size mufflers either side of it, and fuel tank spread evenly both sides also.
Great video, i just took mine apart following your instructions and turns out mine is broken just like yours. Ordered the new cap from BMW and collect it tomorrow. Only charging me £5.89. Thank you sir
Thanks Fred! This comment just made my day. It shows me that the work I do actually does help people. As fun as it is to make my videos, at the end of the day, I just hope that someone else finds them to be useful. Thanks again!
Thank you for this! I'll try it right away :) found it quite funny, when I searched for the other wiper fluid tank, but I don't have one, since one of your tanks is for spaying the lights and my old lady doesn't have light wipers ^^ but I hope to repair my wiper like this too, very rusty back there :(
Fantastic video Bro thumbs up 👍🏾 and now will go and do mine, thanks to yr fab video... Bless
Thanks for watching!
Wish I had your artistic drawing skills!
Great video, ... Very helpful, .. Thank you!
Dave 24v hopefully it does help you out. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video! Been looking for my reservoir in my car and couldn't find it. Now I have two places where I can recheck and see. I'm guessing it's clogged too.
Thanks that helped me a lot
great video I hope I can solve it as quickly as you did! I don't even want to talk about how horrible my experiences with the dealership were. They are there to lie and bait you to keep replacing parts and never resolving issues. I was told repairs for car choking and dying on startup were $4900 and to scrap car (2006 R50). When in the end, it was replacing a faulty gas cap... GAS CAP at $50 which I figured out on my own without their help. Brilliant video thank you!
Rosemary Lucy Cosentino Canadian Fine Artist it was easier to fix than I thought it would be. I hope your project is just as easy too. Thanks for watching!
Very helpful, thank you!
Ogthar I’m glad you found it useful. I wished there was a video like this before I did it, but there wasn’t, so I decided to make one myself. Thanks again for watching!
Thankyou man! And I didn't relize these cars had 2 fluid bottles!
Ok, so I've just literally done this on the wifes car 5 mins ago, thanks to your video I was able to find everything and understand how it works so thankyou!
However her uk 2003 mini only has one washer bottle serving both windows, and I had the remove the boot card and remove the wiper motor assembly from the car because the jet hole u drilled out was clogged solid and behind the boot card where the water hose goes onto the assembly there is a one way valve there which was also blocked!
All fixed now accept the little plastic cover u had to order, mine too is broken and I'm just gonna order one
Wow! BMW mini dont sell that part on it's own, they want to sell me the entire wiper motor! The jet cap alone is 8 quid off ebay for anyone needing one, f**k bmw!
Great video
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the support.
Near side washer bottle is for headlight washers, offside is for front and rear windows 👍
Haha that intro was fun. Nice video.
Thanks for watching! It was really fun to make.
I've always wanted to modify a secondary windshield washer system into a high powered squirt gun coming out of my front grill. Maybe this summer hehe
CrogDog's Garage I’ve seen videos of people doing that to rear washers to keep back tailgaters. Lol. Do it!
Great tip - try the cheap and easy fix first leave the parts at the dealership
Thank you!!!!!!
How come my R50 doesn't have the rear wiper reservoir? I only seem to have the front one on the right side of the car.
Great content thankyou 👌👍 i too have a miata and a mini one 2004 😁
10x man, same issue - clogged up and of course broken nozzle :D
Instead of a drill machine, I used a small Allen key and after a few spins it unclogged, tested without the cap and it worked fine. The cap even though it’s not broken it’s clogged so I guess the nozzle is also clogged and needs to be replaced.
thanks!
Mine blocks all the time. I just take the whole cover off, soak it in warm water, then I had a syringe from work and just irrigate from the hole inside the cover to clear it.
Can you please let me know what was the part number?(for the new plastic)

No need to run the engine to run wiper(s) ?
What size was the bit you used to drill? Don’t wanna use one too thick. Hoping this works for my car
Honestly I don't know what size I used. I found the smallest bit that I could find in my toolbox, and it wasn't labeled. I would recommend finding one that is narrower than the hole, and just go for it. It doesn't take much to unclog it. Good luck!
Because Miata thanks!
Because Miata it totally worked with a 1/16 drill bit! It was so rusted inside and muddy water came out 🤮 works perfectly! Thanks so much!
@@NurseOnDuty117 I'm so happy to hear that this method worked for you. Congrats :)
Wait hang on, there are two different places to fill up, one for the front, one for the back!?? 😱 I think this could well be my problem 🤞🏻
Nicee!! I wish mine could been that easy to fix 🤣
I have a 206 and thr jet looks so ripped. Shots the water just straight rear rather to the window lol
. Has the jet incorporated to the center brake light 🧐
I've had luck moving the jets (on other cars) by sticking a needle or safety pin in the jet, and moving it around to redirect the spray. Worth a try?
@@BecauseMiata yeah thought should be same but . The rear jet on the 206 its build in middle the upper brake light . And already looked pretty carved. I guess preview owners did it worst . 🤣
Yeah you lucky !
Umm 11 minutes to say 'drill out centre hole' ?
Thank you!!!!
You're welcome!
