I've been watching a lot of these GX-100 videos that have come out today, and I gotta say I found yours the most informative, easiest to understand, and most entertaining! If I decide to buy this unit, it will definitely be in part due to this video. Great tones and great playing!
I agree, I am a bit on the fence as these things are impossible to program for me. The big deal for me is the screen. I need a visual to keep things straight in my mind.
100% agree, I was going to leave the same comment. I've been watching a few videos to try and learn what I want the unit to do. @JayLeonardJ showed me exactly what I wanted and needed to know. Great work.
Best GX100 tutorial on RUclips, thank you Tip: Change the tuner in button to be hold for tuner and click for stomp mode, it makes it much better for live use.
I've had mine for 6 months now. Maybe im out of touch with some of the other gear out there, but for $600 this pedal is very user-friendly and sounds SPECTACULAR. Nothing comes close in this price ranges for what you get.
This video changed my mind. Others only play presets which mostly sound to digital. Your video not only showed some tricks but also the sound was warmer. Thanks.
the clean shimmer effect has to be one of my favorites out of all the presets on this thing. you can play whatever you want, and it sounds absolutely heavenly
Thank you for making the only video on RUclips, about this unit, that's not going in a kind of OMG WTF mode: turning all the effects at the same time so we don't hear the actual sound of the guitar anymore...seriously man, a great, usable and organic sound! Your Tele's amazing! Cheers✌🏻
Great lesson...you cleared some important things about this box...just got it about a month ago...was frustrated using it but I think I may have broken the mystery of it...thanks so much...also great playing...
Hi. I have the GX100 since few month and I regret I've not see your video before. I don't use it very often because I have my pedalboard and because I don't use it much I have to read all the manual to understand how this gx100 works. With your video I wouldn't need because everything is clear. I love your playing too. You've a new subscriber!
Jay Excellent demo. I watched a few others but you really put things into perspective on this unit. The pedal board set up part was very helpful. Great job! Im sold.
I got my GX-100 in Dec, my first decent all-in-one unit. I've played with a few functions since then, but it does so much! Where to start? Watched a few youtubers but mostly they are bits and pieces. Today I followed your build step by step and programmed it all in, and now not only have I an awesome patch but also I understand loads of GX features. This is such a cool instructional lesson. Subscribed!
Awe man this is the best demo I had come across, thank you so much for your time . This is by far a good investment to make for my self. Old school, vs the POD an Go line 6 which is a pain in the behind just to get down load new presets you can program.....
This is the most encouraging video I have seen on this product. I am not very good at programing this type of unit. I need something stupid easy. This might be the one. For example I have a Roland GR-55. It is a nightmare for me to tweak the existing presets. I love the visual screen. This may be a huge help. and a real deal breaker for me to buy one. With out the screen, I could visually see what I am doing is huge. Thank you. It helps hearing from a man who was involved in the development. This is rerley done.-Thank you.
I have been looking at other reviews as well. Your demo/review is the best and most comprehensive. I can get these for 500-510 free shipping. I am going to do so soon. I took out my gr-55 today. It was in hibernation, for the last year. I am thinking of selling my Synth access stuff. I do not know as the Roland GR-55 and the Godin SA Freeway (A Stratocaster style SA ready) guitar has doubled what I paid for it. I seem not to use it much. The great benefit of this type of multi effect is A) No special guitar or ugly pick up added, Exhibit B) I or anyone else for that matter can grab any stanbdard axe-Bingo, ready to go. I was in a car wreck in 1991, whereas I won a compound fracture to my left arm. These are the worst(As the broken bones come right out of the skin). I need a thin neck and maximum radius of 12". This is why I love Keisel guitars so much. I would strongly suggest, if you have the fincial ability -have one made for yourself. The make a LP style, better thany Gibson LP. In addition they maks a S & T style as well. You can get exactlly what YOU want for less than a top of the line LP,Strat,Tele etc. Check out their new virtual builder, and always speak to one of their (Builder Consultants) prior to buying. I use the help of a guy named Kieth. He has been doin it for years, and I would not use anyoneelse. Goodluck-Shawn.
Awesome! I got a GX-100 and am quite happy with it. I'm currently plugging into the power amp in on my Katana MkII. Then it hits me - get a lightweight FRFR power monitor and I'll have a lightweight grab 'n go setup for gigs and jams. Hey, maybe get the Bose S1 Pro+ for all that and busking too. 😉
Finally I can change between presets with carryover working but its a little bit difficult to achieve. It would be interesting to improve this with an update.
Great video Jay and awesome patches you created for us. What would really help the community, however, is if you could make a vid on how to create and save a blank patch to use as a canvass. Everybody on the net seems to be having that question and, mind you, the Roland/Boss website (let's not even call it a manual for there isn't a proper manual) is criminally helpless about this...
Ah, I just picked a random patch, selected each effect individually, and pressed delete/remove on them. Saved the black canvas and I was good. You can only do that with the GX100 though; With the GT1000 you will always have effects populated on your signal path.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, Jay. For some reason, your reply popped up in my email box only now. Please rest assured that your follow up was appreciated. g@@JayLeonardJ
Brilliant man. Just got a gx-100 and this video will be incredibly useful in the coming days/weeks! Can I ask what guitar that is in the intro?? It’s beautiful!

Hello. Great video! Does the GX-100 contain replicas of original Boss pedals (OD-3, BD-2, DD-3, etc.) or are they more like generic effects (delay, phaser, flanger, etc.)? For example, does the GX-100's Space Echo patch replicate the RE-20 or is it an effect that gets within range of the original? Just wondering. Thanks!

There is an accessory, the BOSS BLUETOOTH Audio MIDI Dual Adaptor, for the BOSS GX-100. Questions: When practicing, how does it work? Specifically: How does the audio streaming feature (audio from a mobile device such as an iPhone) work using the BOSS BLUETOOTH Audio MIDI Dual Adaptor? When using headphones, I would assume the audio from the iPhone will be coming in and mixed with the guitar effect. But, where is the audio level adjustment? For example: The Yamaha THR and other multi-effects processors have an audio level knob. Now let’s imagine I’m using a HEADRUSH FRFR 108. Does the audio and the guitar effects both go to the speaker cab? Read the manual? I did. Not a word is mentioned in the PDF.
I just picked this up today. Excited to dig in! What's the best way to send a line to PA and another line to a powered speaker for personal monitor purposes?
People need to start watching other channels like this one. Newsflash: there are many other great guitarists out there besides the same ones you probable watch everyday doing the same thing every single time. Jay is one of the best guitarists around. And he’s been around awhile and deserves more subs and views. But you all just keep watching the same thing w wry single day. Break your habit and break out. Plus, he plays funk like nobody’s business. He’s great.
Hi is there a way to save the patch in another bank not in the preset bank ,i create a patch and want to save it separately in the factory preset ,How?
Jay,Excellant Demo and How-To video.Got mine a few days ago.You can Write a Patch my Friend!!! I'll be watching all your videos. In the Parameter Guide I see these are there...But I'm just starting out using this unit. And Still getting my head around setting up the RC-600 Looper too. What a Fantastic combo these are together... Hello! 🙂 Nice presentation of the processor. Did you record directly to the card or through an amplifier? I'm asking because I've had many Boss processors and these have a "problem" with distortion and overdrive sounds that don't sound natural. Fractal went much further there, even Zoom processors. Maybe I would buy Boss again, that's why I'm asking how it was recorded. I'm looking for the opinion of a musician, not a seller 😉 . Thank you very much 🙂
Directly from the GX-100 to the audio interface. Personally, even though I prefer the user interface of the GX-100 a lot, but tend to use my GT-1000 a lot more for work.
The trick with these Boss units is to use the EQs to get you guitar sounding right before you add distortions and overdrives. Use the tuner in bypass mode to listen to you straight guitar signal, then in your preset, compare the bypasss and then preset signal, and tweak the EQs until you get both signals sounding similar, then add your distortion and overdrives to tailor the sound, as you don't want excessive higher frequencies, and roll them off. Also make sure you set the Global EQ for the unit and roll off the lows at maybe around 150hz, and highs at around 4 or 5khz. I was a bit hesitant with this unit, but after looking at a lot of RUclips tutorials, and experimenting for days on end, I love it.
Very informative and what a great guitar player you are. Just bought the gx-100 yesterday. When you finished creating this great preset in the U preset section I would guess....How do you save it, and if we do a factory reset do you lose it or does only affect the factory presets. Thanks again for this great video.
You can save all your presets to a file if you connect the GX-100 to your computer. After you do a full factory wipe of the pedal, just just load up your save file back to get everything back. When you do updates, everything typically stays where it is (but it is always good to back up just to be sure)
Hi there, dumb question alert! Can I get a good recording from this by connecting it to an audio interface like the Focusrite Scarlett. Will the quality of that recording be better than the USB recording method. Thanks, great sounds!
Hiii, new subscriber here!! Just asking if you can use the Gx-100 with other analog pedal? Always playing live kase... Thank youu, very informative video btw!
they make guitar sound too dry and glassy (or they call it more modern?) on this pedal from most of demos on youtube and you make it sing, great demo J !
Great travel throught GX-100 but please tell me one thing. I just got my Boss GX-100 and tries to figure it out and make me some own sounds before a gig this saturday. I would of course also give my sounds personal names so they are easy to remember on stage. But how I try the knobs doesn´t reach longer that to the letter A. I turn knob 2 around but it seems stuck at the first letter only and it makes it impossible to create personal names for the different sounds I create. I have found a few white paper tutorials but they doesn´t help at all. How come there isn´t a single tutorial of how to manage the text generator for the making of or re-name already created names in the factory settings?
Great tutorial and demo! Just purchased it this week. When I press Effects, I do not get a blank pallet to create an effect from scratch. What am I doing wrong?
You are doing nothing wrong; I actually created my own blank patch. I saved it and copy it to a new bank every time I want to start a preset from scratch.
That was awesome! Thank you. Do you know if it's possible to switch the tuning and manual mode function? I'd like to just tap C2 and go into manual mode.
Thanks for the video, one question is you built a nice preset from scratch, but I do not see how you save it, there are 50 banks and each bank has 4 slots so totally 200 slots, they are all loaded with the factory default presets from u01-1 to u50-4, I do not want to overwrite them, so when you save your new preset created from scratch, where do you save without overwrite any existing one? Thanks again!
Weird. When I scroll through my banks, I have presets that start with "U" and presets that start with "P". The P banks are the factory presets that can't be changed and the U banks are "User" slots for your own created presets. Out of the box, the presets on the U banks are actually cut and pasted from the corresponding P slot (eg. P01-1 is the same as U01-1), so you can overwrite any slot U slot with the knowledge that the preset will still exist in the P banks.
Hey, awesome demo! I'm new to pedals and I play the harp, and I'm trying to find out if it's possible to use the expression pedal on the GX-100 to do a pitch bend effect. Do you know if this is possible? Thanks! :)
Very nice video! Are the sounds in the video simulated using IR cabinets? What is the output setting type of the GX100? Can you tell me how the sound in the video was recorded? Thanks!
Is it possible to assign one switch to toggle in between two different effects? For example, on my HX Stomp, I'm able to use one foot switch to jump from my basic plate reverb to the much more saturated "glitz" reverb. That way, I don't have to turn one off and then turn the other one on, and I also am not using as many switches. (On the Stomp, This is done by assigning both effects to the same switch but then using the selector knob to turn one of them off, then, every time I hit the switch, it just switches to whichever one was turned off.)
Great video Jay. Can you please confirm whether you can assign more than two effects in the multiple assign for a footswitch, and whether you can turn one off while turning others on?
I just got a Fender Telecaster American Pro II to play with my GX-100, but I simply cannot use the bridge or the neck pickups with any of my overdrive presets because it's absolutely noisy, even with the Noise Gate. Please can anyone help me? 😔
I just purchased one and I love the sounds but I suck with technology. I literally want to set up 4 patches and it's kicking my ass. 1. Clean, reverb, delay 2. Dry crunch 3. Heavy distortion w/chorus 4. Solo lead with delay and reverb. I'm seriously behind the power curve when it comes to guitar technology. My pedal board is 5 stomps plus a tuner. Everything is at least 7 years old. 🤘🤘😆😆 Any help????
Just the GX100 today and im surprised that it has what seems to be a grounding hum, very pronounced grounding hum. Even the noise suppressor won’t stop it. Did you have a similar experience with yours ?
How do you get an empty bank to assign effects?? All of my preset has tons of effects on it already and it's annoying to have to delete them one by one
You start with a 'blank slate' but you don't show us how to make a blank slate to work from? can you pls show us how to do this? and how do you actually save your work? every time I add my own presets they disappear as soon as I go to another patch? can you pls help?? thanks
You know what, I actually haven't tried that. I know that you can use IR Cabs with the GT-1000, but I it might be worth doublechecking the manual on this one.
Thank you, please let us know if anything as such is available. This is the only thing that is holding me out to order this pedal instead of line 6 pod go .
Awesome video brother. I have fuckin' subscrived! Im a Gt-1000 fan, just like you. Can you do a deep GT-1000 vs GX-100 video? Cheers from Portugal 🤘🍺🇵🇹
I actually just manually created a blank patch before starting (by deleting all the effects on a previously created patch). If you are the type that prefers to build from scratch (instead of tweaking an existing preset), make one blank page and save it. Then bring it up every time you want to build a new patch :)

Yes! In fact, I didn't use the USB to capture my tones for this video: I plugged the GX-100 straight into my interface via the 1/4" outs :)
@@JayLeonardJ Fantastic, thanks! Mind sharing which interface you prefer.
What a demo!! I love all your demos ! Can the GX works with acoustic guitar ? Thank you and go on like this you are a great and very sympa guitarist!!
Definitely! I have a preset that I use for my acoustic tones as well :)
@@JayLeonardJ Thank you so much.
Hiii, new subscriber here!! Just asking if you can use the Gx-100 with other analog pedal? Always playing live kase... Thank youu, very informative video btw!
definitely! Use the fx loop or just put it before the pedal :)
they make guitar sound too dry and glassy (or they call it more modern?)
on this pedal from most of demos on youtube
and you make it sing, great demo J !
@@JayLeonardJ Makes sense. Thank you !
@@JayLeonardJ I don't see any demos about the looper. Can I record a loop on a preset, then switch to another preset to play over it?
Nice can you do a video with your modded PRS S2 guitar? I done that mod to mine, it would be interesting to see what you come up with!!
That was awesome! Thank you. Do you know if it's possible to switch the tuning and manual mode function? I'd like to just tap C2 and go into manual mode.
Yup, you can map the footswitches to almost anything you want :)
Excellent presentation, hope we are going to see the boss gx-100 core?
Great video, but are you running this to a PA or a clean channel of an amp?
It is going directly into my audio interface for recording
Hey, awesome demo! I'm new to pedals and I play the harp, and I'm trying to find out if it's possible to use the expression pedal on the GX-100 to do a pitch bend effect. Do you know if this is possible? Thanks! :)
Definitely! You just assign the EXP pedal to the pitch bend pitch in the assign controls menu :)
Very nice video!
Are the sounds in the video simulated using IR cabinets? What is the output setting type of the GX100? Can you tell me how the sound in the video was recorded?
Thanks!
I'm using the built in amp sims in the box, so it is plugged directly to the board :)
@JayLeonardJ Oh my God! sounds good
Hi Jay! Did you connect this straight into the desk, or did it go into an amp/cab?
I went straight to my audio interface for this one :)
@@JayLeonardJ Thanks for the reply! Sounded so good that I wasn't sure if it was really straight in. Thanks for the awesome review!
Yes you can :) In fact, that is how I use mine all the time!
Awesome review! Do you have any idea if any of the amp models are Dumble-inspired, or Dumble-ish?
this is not the pedal for that you probably want a klon pedal or the cheaper clones of those
Great video Jay. Can you please confirm whether you can assign more than two effects in the multiple assign for a footswitch, and whether you can turn one off while turning others on?
Yes.
I just got a Fender Telecaster American Pro II to play with my GX-100, but I simply cannot use the bridge or the neck pickups with any of my overdrive presets because it's absolutely noisy, even with the Noise Gate. Please can anyone help me? 😔
Great!!!
nice demo
I just purchased one and I love the sounds but I suck with technology. I literally want to set up 4 patches and it's kicking my ass.
1. Clean, reverb, delay
2. Dry crunch
3. Heavy distortion w/chorus
4. Solo lead with delay and reverb.
I'm seriously behind the power curve when it comes to guitar technology.
My pedal board is 5 stomps plus a tuner. Everything is at least 7 years old.
🤘🤘😆😆
Any help????
Hi! Sorry for the dumb question, how do i change the name of the preset?
Nice!
Just the GX100 today and im surprised that it has what seems to be a grounding hum, very pronounced grounding hum.
Even the noise suppressor won’t stop it.
Did you have a similar experience with yours ?
Weird. I believe you can change the grounding scheme in the settings menu. Hope that helps!
damn fine playing
Thanks!
How do you get an empty bank to assign effects?? All of my preset has tons of effects on it already and it's annoying to have to delete them one by one
I just made the preset myself and saved it for when I want to start a patch from scratch.
Can the tuner function actually display Eb,Ab,Gb etc… on the display for E flat tuning?
great! are you plugged into an interface or a guitar amp?
Direct to the interface.
You start with a 'blank slate' but you don't show us how to make a blank slate to work from? can you pls show us how to do this? and how do you actually save your work? every time I add my own presets they disappear as soon as I go to another patch? can you pls help?? thanks
Great unit. What amp or speakers are you playing through?
All the sounds are the GX-100 directly to the board :)
Thanks for this..but I'm a beginner and I noticed you didn't show us how to SAVE the preset. Help!
How to get blank patch ?
is it possible to add or replace the amp models in this pedal using third party IR?
You know what, I actually haven't tried that. I know that you can use IR Cabs with the GT-1000, but I it might be worth doublechecking the manual on this one.
Thank you, please let us know if anything as such is available. This is the only thing that is holding me out to order this pedal instead of line 6 pod go .
Does each preset have a manual mode?
Sold!
How did you get to a completely blank patch?
I made a preset that was completely blank, and just copy and paste it whenever I want to make a "from scratch" patch :)
How do you clear a patch? Or do I have to remove every effect manually?
What I do is just save an empty patch as a preset and cut and paste it when I need to build a new "blank canvas" post.
Awesome video brother. I have fuckin' subscrived! Im a Gt-1000 fan, just like you. Can you do a deep GT-1000 vs GX-100 video?
Cheers from Portugal 🤘🍺🇵🇹
Sounds like a great idea!
Hy ! When I press effect I have not a blank patch ? How do you do this magic trick ?
I actually just manually created a blank patch before starting (by deleting all the effects on a previously created patch).
If you are the type that prefers to build from scratch (instead of tweaking an existing preset), make one blank page and save it. Then bring it up every time you want to build a new patch :)
Can I do scenes Like in the headrush??? Thanks
What computer programer cause do we need to enter.
Can C1 be assigned as a 5th preset per bank?
Hello everyone, I got one, but I’m having a hard time finding a blank slate to create effects of my choice. Please help. Thanks guys!
I actually created a blank preset for myself (by deleting all the effects in a chain) and saved it for when I want to start a patch from scratch :)
@@JayLeonardJ Thanks brother!
