    Just bought one. Blown away by the power of this unit and the sound quality for a very reasonable price. This unit is going to open up every possibility that I need for live playing.

    Thank you so much for pointing out the power of “current number” assignments. I have a Boss MS-3 which has this capability as well, the only drawback is unlike the GX-100 the switch LED doesn’t change color when the second layer is activated. I actually had to make a small box with a bright LED that I trigger from control out 1 using, you guessed it, the current number feature! Now I know for certain when I’m in the second layer of any patch.

    Honestly, the stellar sound out of boss units hasn't convinced me to stick with Boss as much as Glenn Delaune has. This man knows how to get great results out of these units. Aren't we lucky that he shares his knowledge?
    Is he using a green slurpee straw to designate point of focus on the unit?😅

I also purchased a number of your presets, the RUSH one being my favourite for the moment.Keep up the great work especially with the GX 100 (maybe some Dokken/ Lynch early 80's tone (Back for the Attack) might be on your list of tones you are considering doing in the near future. 👋👍

    Thanks so much for the in-depth video. I've been checking out videos on this unit all day, and yours is the first I've found that goes through the assigning of multiple blocks/parameters to one switch. That's a feature I absolutely need. Been using a POD Go for the last year or so, but while I like the size and layout, it's just too limited. Plus, BOSS stuff just feels better to me (used a GT-8 for about ten years). So I think I'll make the switch to the GX-100 when it hits the market. Thanks again.

This I think is typical, for a new "Ground Breaking" unit. I am hoping for a more efficent on screen display, with more fined tuned and better features?? Just a dream at this point.

    It’s the early morning hours of Feb. 16, 2024 as I view this review and leave my comment, Glenn. This definitely is an in-depth review. I’ve spent the last 3 or 4 months meditating on possibly purchasing the counterpart to this unit, the Boss GT-1000 Core. This review has definitely got me thinking again (and thankful I hadn’t already bought the Core). I appreciate how Core bolsters dual inputs and dual effects loops. I think I would prefer greater real-time control (that hopefully would not necessitate constantly using the software) over the additional ins and outs. It also need not be ultraportable.
    It would also be great to know that I wouldn’t need to get an additional expression pedal with the Line 6 XP-1 I already have, assuming that is compatible with something like the GX-100. Can you confirm that any expression pedal will do?

I’m ordering that board this week it makes so much sense. Do I use this going into my PRS HDX20 which goes into my Marshal 2x12? And if so how should I dial in the amp?? 6 O’clock or lower. • @GlennDeLauneOfficial

      Yes this could be done. You'd lose the Volume control but could tie the U-Vibe rate to the pedal in the normal state and still have the Wah at the toe press. You would do all this from the assigns settings.

My sustain just cuts right off and I’m using two core PRS’s 594 and a custom 24-08 core. My Kirt Hammet Ltd 602 even cuts right off. So what setting needs to changed because I don’t see a sound gate in any of the presets. Hope it’s ok that I asked you. Playing through a PRS HDRX 20 into a 2x12 Marshall …Thanks James

    Hi, Glenn! First time commentator here. Do you have any informations if Boss has plans to release a rack version of this (or a similar) unit in the future to compete with the Helix and Axe FX? I'm not a big fan of "floor based" (?) equipment for non-live situations as it's just uncomfortable to use even when you sit down but the Axe FX is just too expensive in my opinion and the community seems rather toxic. I'm asking because I have a GT-10 and although I love its design, clean sounds and FX section I have always not been so happy with the high gain sounds.

  • @chrismichael8501
    @chrismichael8501 2 года назад

    Excellent demo, very clear and easy to understand. I have one question for you. I'm considering buying the GX-100 but my problem is I feel I need support for setlists. It doesn't look like Boss natively supports them. Helix LT by comparison supports 8 setlists. A Boss customer support person just told me that GX-100 does, but they must be organized using Tone Studio on a computer. I understand that Tone Studio indeed supports setlists. But what's the benefit if the hardware doesn't let you select them? Does every patch in the setlist just get dumped in with all the existing ones randomly? I get that a customer could manually upload a long list of patches to memory before a gig. But they'd have to be loaded/dragged one by one and without any errors in the process, correct? Tone Studio seems to lack a button to automatically upload a setlist to the GX-100. Or am I missing something? And does the unit have a menu option to choose the setlist like Helix does? I realize your Rush setlist seems to use just one main patch with variations to cover all of Alex's sounds. So perhaps you're workflow isn't that big on setlists. For me I cover 50's to 90's rock with every style imaginable. I feel the need to upload a long, custom setlist for every occasion. Or perhaps I'm overthinking it.
    Anyway, since you use Helix, perhaps you can you could make a video comparing, say Helix LT with GX-100? Covering the practical aspects of managing patches in Windows, uploading setlists to the unit, sorting them, accessing them on stage, etc. So far nobody on RUclips seems to cover that. Does the Boss method suffice or do you recommend Helix?

    I'm hoping you can help me... I have recently gotten this unit used, but I fear it may be broken with a grounding issue. When I touch the knobs under the lcd screen, I can hear both scratching sounds if I rub (not turn) the knob top, it also very audibly grounds the unit similar to touching a metal part of my guitar. Is this normal? Does yours do this? I'm getting worried. I can also hear a constant noise, different than typical 60 cycle hum. It's not as apparent with clean patched, but with any amount of gain it becomes quite noticeable. Changing from my single coil neck pickup to my humbucking bridge does not reduce the noise, so thats why I don't think it's typical single coil hum, but something internal to the device. Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

    • @GlennDeLauneOfficial
      @GlennDeLauneOfficial  Год назад

      It shouldn't be doing that. It could be a grounding issue with wherever you have the unit plugged into. I would try it in another part of your house just to make sure.

    I'm a big fan of hands free, can you do the same on the boss, so If your playin live and need your gain to be up or down in the mix then you can adjust that as you play?

      That can be programmed into the switches. It doesn't work like the Helix though.

    Glenn which do you prefer having used the AX8 to GX100?

    Hey Glenn, I'm a fan of your videos, I used a Boss GT-10 for a long time and I relied on your explanations to make it work in 4CM with my Marshall JCM 900, to enjoy the channels and the sound of my amp. I've just upgraded to the GX100, and I'm happy to see that you've also adopted the new version of Boss. However, I see that you do not use it in 4CM. Have you given up on the idea of working with your amp's preamp and channels? If so, how do you amplify the GX100? I'm very hesitant to work with the "AMP Simulator" and abandon the 4CM... Thank you!

      Thank you Simon. You know that's a very good question. I have adopted the method of creating my own Cab Impulse Responses that can be loaded into the GX model. This could not be done with the older GT-10. What I do now is connect the outputs of this GX unit into the FX Return of my amps. Currently on smaller gigs I use a pair of Roland Blues Cube Artists Series 1x12's. For area shows I step up to a pair pf Bogner Alchemist with matching 2x12 cabs. All of my amps have FX loops so I just go into the FX Return of the amps and that basically makes a clean power source. Then with my presets coupled with my Custom Impulse Responses I am very very happy with the sound and have had more compliments on my tone in the last 3 months than I've ever had since I've been using this GX unit. I also had a JCM900 and ran the same way into the FX Return of the amp. That was with the GT-100 I believe. The reason I ditched 4CM is because I needed many different sounds for a gig. It was a learning experience for sure but like I say, so many compliments on my live tone now so it must be good if other people tell it's good.

      @@GlennDeLauneOfficial Wow that's a nasty big change!!! By connecting the output of the GX1000 in the Effect Loop, I will have to "give up" my Marshall tone. That's a big decision, I've been using this setup for over 10 years! On the other hand, your explanations make me want to try, so I bought your Amp Simulation Pack, which I'm going to test directly in my effect loop! Thank you for responding quickly, and thank you for your contribution to the world of multi-effects!

      Thank you Simon. You can adjust the Hi & Lo cuts in the Global outputs of the GX to shape the sound.

    I got one of these I run it into the power amp in on my Katana and it sounds great , they say turn the cabinet models off going into an amp, but it sounds horrible when I do that like a broken fuzzy am radio

    I’m curious (and new at this). Why wouldn’t you use the “Output” (mono or stereo) to go the amp. And which one do you use to go to an audio interface.

    • @GlennDeLauneOfficial
      @GlennDeLauneOfficial  2 года назад +1

      For live use I use the L&R outputs to go the PA. We run a stereo PA. That's why I use the headphone out to go to my onstage amps. In the studio I use the L&R outs into my audio interface which is a Focusrite 4i4 3rd Gen.

    Glenn,
    Very good info! Are these tones right out of the box with no tweaking or did you set the unit up per your settings. I just bought this unit and I am having trouble with getting any good tones from it. Any suggestions on the setup?

      Hi Kevin, no I edited them a little. I have some free presets you can find here. These will get you started. www.glenndelaune.com/boss-patches.htm#!/Boss-GX-100-Free-Starter-Pack/p/452881922/category=118138386

      Hey Glen I appreciate it so much, I'm making some progress. I went direct to my FRFR speakers and it is a ton better on some patches. I just need to figure out how get it through my mixing board with same or better tone!

      Thank you. No they don't but I'm working on porting over all of my GT-1000 content to the GX unit. I'll have something to offer in just a couple weeks.

    Has anyone tried to connect a Moog EP-3 external expression pedal. I have a preset where the built in expression pedal (EXP1) controls foot volume and wah. I am trying to connect an external expression pedal to control Pitch Bend or other effects.
