Went on to see them at Irvine amp w Ace and again, w no make-up at a Burbank airport hangar rehearsing with Ace, then on the reunion tour in L.A. 96/97. I saw them w/o Ace in the 80's, no make-up and they were painfully boring. Gene Paul Peter and Ace were KISS! I lived thru it. Amen!
His dad owned an electric motor shop ill bet Ace can wind an electric motor. I talked to his mom Esther back in 87? She said her husband was still workin windin motors. Dad didnt want to quit work. And money was there at no problem when needed after Ace made alot but dad wasnt gonna free ride on it. Thats what she told me. She liked to play cards with her friends weekly.
I'll never forget listening to my sister's Alive album over and over. Then i found a copy of Double Platinum at a yard sale and wore that vynil out. Kiss had some great songs for young boys like myself at the time.
Ace was my guitar hero growing up in 75 I was 11 and heard them for the first time blow me away, but he had a lot to do with his dysfunction in the band

Peter and Ace preferred to get drunk and high and party, their lack of professionalism got on Gene and Paul's nerves, especially when the group went on a talk show and the two of them were wasted.

And at least Pete & Ace weren’t trying to take even more advantage of their fans by trying to suck every penny out of their fans by Gene putting their name on things that have absolutely have nothin to do with their music. You could tell Gene was jealous when Ace being himself an was makin the talk show guy Tom Snyder or whatever his name is, he was laughing his ass off with him, an Gene couldn’t handle Ace taking control of the interview when Gene was trying to play his Demon part like his unsuccessful 2 second acting career in Phantom of the Park & Runaway movies that bombed. No wonder why Ace didn’t show up for the Phantom movie cuz at least maybe Ace realized he’s not an actor. It’s prolly cuz Gene was jealous, so he prolly lied an said shit like, Ace was high when we did the late night talk show or why he didn’t show up on the movie set. How do we know Gene didn’t lie about Ace supposedly being high on that talk show cuz he was jealous. Genes theme song for his reality show says it in the song, “You wish you were me. How blatantly egotistical! And then it was said that, Gene has such a boring life/tv show that they had to write scripts for some of their episodes. And Peter wrote and sang probably their most popular an most well known song, Beth. And Ace proved he was his own force by out selling the rest of the band with his solo record back in the day. And both druggies helped write the music too. Everybody has their own faults and aren’t perfect. So ya don’t have to do drugs to be a bad person, Gene proves that. An they wouldn’t be the band they are if it wasn’t for the 2 druggies in the band! Trust me I really don’t care for Gene Simmons but I like his music that he made with KISS. Peter Criss wrote "Get Away" and he was the reason why KISS put out Solo Albums. Ace's Album was solid, Paul's was the Best and Gene gets the award for "Most Memorable Song Titles", but Peters Sucked Out Loud as it was mostly rehashed '50s-'60s Rock and Roll and KISS Fans were a new generation.
Nah problems started in 1976 when the money started rolling in. Ace started drinking more and even skipped out on redoing solos for tje Destroyer album, replaced by Dick Wagner from Alice Cooper. Peter started his cocaine crap and his anger issues got worse.
You should read the band members memoirs. They all talk about how different they all were from the very beginning and how they never hung out socially away from the band. Ace was lazy, Peter was quitting the band every five minutes. Paul was a loner, and he couldn't stand Gene from the first time he met him and hated that he hogged the spotlight. This was all before they made a dime. It's well documented.
Ace wrote almost all the original songs and basically made the kiss logo Paul just sang and played guitar and was able to have the band we know now stick together he’s the glue gene was a joke for the reason he left the band to do more movies and came back and write half ass music and Peter had the looks of rock and roll but couldn’t play all fucked up every night

Ace wrote the song. He wasn't singing lead at that point so he gave it to Peter since Peter didn't have a lead vocal on that record. It'd be a couple years before Ace summoned the courage to sing lead on Shock Me.

A damn good guitar player and technically the best guitar player KISS ever had Eric Carr was a power house drummer,and Eric Singer is an excellent drummer too having a good resume he has played with Gary Moore ,Black Sabbath ,Alice Cooper Lita Ford Olivia Newton John and many others. If KISS were mediocre they wouldn't have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. They are respected and liked by their peers that include Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin and Brian May from Queen and many others. It's only the haters and musical snobs who say they are a garage band when they clearly aren't.

KISS were struggling during the making of Dressed To Kill, they didn't have a pot to whizz in. In fact, it was around this time Paul Stanley went to their manager Bill Aucoin for a loan and changed his mind when he noticed a hole in Bill's shoe patched up with duct tape.

Ace’s solo album was BY FAR the best of the 4. It’s a masterpiece, start to finish. Every song is great! It’s way better than a lot of Kiss albums.
