Because the west has been pumping millions of dollars into them since 2014, NATO has been training and arming them for nearly 10 years and the US also put biolabs all across Ukraine(doing god know what).
The Ukrainians are being used and abused in an attempt to destroy Russia - split it into multiple states, syphon off all their natural resources to the west and keep the region perpetually de-stabilised to stop any organised resistance.
Let me ask this then, why did the US have such a hard on when Russia put missiles in Cuba, 3000km from Washington? p.s. Kiev is 800km from Moscow
