Yes Russia is a larger economy than the UK in terms of purchasing power parity, however it is a country of more than twice the population of the UK. If you look up PPP per capita and you will see that the average Brit is much wealthier than the average Russian. You can pick and choose whichever economic metric you like to support any argument. Take economic growth, yes Russia has had higher economic growth than the UK over the last few years, however that is due to pumping huge amounts of money in to their military. That will inflate the GDP figure but won’t be felt by the Russian public as the wealth generated by the production of weaponry is then destroyed on the battlefield, rather than in an area of the economy that would facilitate future prosperity, such as infrastructure. The argument that the Russian economy has fared better than the UK is only true if you isolate a select few favourable economic metrics… maybe the Russian media should educate the Russian public about that, oh wait they have restricted the media for some reason 🤔

Why would you be afraid for Steve Rosenberg? I am very sure Vladimir Putin is elated by that question. Don’t be suckered by the western democratic ideals represented by ‘courage to question’ because the answers and reactions are more important. In this case, Putin responded perfectly and made himself as a saviour of Russians and their Motherland. Russians are very proud of Vladimir Putin, just like the Chinese are extremely proud of Xi Jinping. You can’t say the same for UK or US citizens. Exactly the same rebuttal Putin gave at the end of his answer when he talked about inflation.
People think Putin is smart, but if you listen to his answer, it is clear he is a dulsional little man witha very insular ideology. The West has no such desire to take over Russia. All we wish for is this little tyrant to go away and be replaced by someone who is actually sane.

You still use nominal GDP to compare the economies of different countries ?😂 Here I will give you some homework so the next time you don't embarrass your self that much. Exercise 2 : Now go on and compare the economies of Russia and Italy or Germany. You might be surprised. If you want to play smart compare the per capita indexes which Italy propably still has an edge. But nonetheless under Putin Russia had a bigger growth than Italy or pretty much any other EU country during Putin's presidencies

The west enabled this crap, we loved their oligarchs living in Europe spending their nations money on yachts and designer junk. Hope both sides learn something.
I keep asking in comments but @bbc never answers; what did you do to shield Rosenberg? What kind of agreement you have in Russia? That's not the first time he says publicly or publicise things which would have other journalists arrested or worse. Other Western presses such as Deutsche Welle were banned from Russia for much less.
It's mutually beneficial. The BBC rightfully gets to hold a dictator to account and get clout for doing so. And the dictator gets to have a whine about globalism and the failure of the west etc. Putin knows certain people in the west will watch this and eat up every word he says
The sales pitch is the west kicked out RT, but we allow the BBC we must be the free country. Of course it doesn’t really stand up as the head of RT is on Russia 1 every other night uncritically supporting the war without a hesitant breath. RT is not a real journalistic organisation in any sense.
tbf he's not wrong about purchasing power, but it's specifically about GDP (PPP) which takes into account the fact that prices are lower in Russia, but in nominal GDP (i.e the number simply when converted to Dollars), Russia is 11th. So kind of misleading and not the most relevant when talking about international trade for example.
But it is the most relevant when talking about standard of living which I think that was his aim since he was asked if he feels he's taken good care of Russia. By that measure it's undeniable it's been a huge positive during his reign compared to the beginning
@andre60937 except the number is ridiculous. It would put russia in line with western European countries in terms of gdp per capita. It would give russia a larger economy than japan. There is no way in hell that a reasonable person sees how Russian outside of Moscow or pensioners in siberia live and thinks russia is on par with western Europe and Japan. The non-ppp gdp figure is much closer to the truth than the ppp adjusted figure
All fine and dandy until the war ends and Russia has to stop its war time economy. In addition, absolute zero investment from other countries and their cash reserve is completely depleted. This economy is going to be worse than what they experienced in the 1990s. It's a disaster that is unavoidable at this point. Also, China can't save them.

Didnt know a sovereign country would have their election rigged by the west. It did actually happen, that is why eastern Ukraine wanted to leave, which led Ukraine to use military force in the east. You might be surprised by the fact that the US and western Europe financed the Maidan revolution in 2014 to force a coup against an election president of Ukraine.
For those unfamiliar with Russia, while dissent is most certainly not tolerated, the Kremlin will occasionally allow someone to ask Putin questions that he normally wouldn't allow, simply so that they can claim that they allow dissent when criticized, and point to that example as proof. It's the same with opposition political parties. They are not allowed, but they will allow one or two to exist, simply so that they can claim to allow opposition parties, if criticized.

I'm always amazed that Putin threw out the BBC's Sarah Rainsford, kicked her out of Russia and made her persona-non-grata, while allowing Steve Rosenberg to stay. Never quite understood that.
Russia kept its honor. Security over survival. Only real men understand what that means. If a man points a gun at you and tells you to get in his truck. Most of y’all would get in because you chose survival over security. NATO was pointing a gun to Russia’s head and telling them to get in. They opted for security instead. Gotta respect that.
When has NATO threatened to attack Russia? If NATO is so scary then why Russia has send most of troops from NATO borders to Ukraine?

It says Vladi-Vostok. I don’t know what it is implying but that’s what it says.
Vladivostock
It's just one of Russian city names
@@Oakenlix Vladivostok also apparently means “Ruler of the East” in this case implying that Putler is the ruler of the East. Probably another useful idiot in the crowd.
As answered by the previous replies, ‘Vladivostok”. It’s a journalist/participant from Vladivostok (identifying themselves) waiting their turn to ask a question at a conference, you “Dickhead”!
I wonder what Boris Nikolaevich Yeltsin would say to all this
He would drink more and more and continue destroy russia...because he was drunk and naive. And western would be happy, in plan, this man is so....damn...tsss
🤨
Cheers
