In one essay I saw the name Simon. Was it a ref to Simon Aronson?
uh...
I agree with you on the cost. The only thing that I truly found off was the training with the feet especially since its a known fact that working with your feet alone does in no way translate to your hands. Also with his 9 things being 3 tricks, 3 moves, and 3 theories, then in my opinion don't go for the expensive stuff, make it less impressive book and more affordable. Especially with his name carrying it, people will still buy it.
P.S. Also in the vol 2 shift. I don't care how Ben might have found or do something different with the erdnase grip, riffle force, and false swing cut they are still moves that have been taught everywhere else and are some of the first things magicians already know how to do.
thanks stopping by
On your video faint purple shadows. Might just be tiny purple rain.
I only wanted to one time to see you laughing
can you review pure imagination by Andi Gladwin, Scott Robinson and John Campbell pleasee
I wish I had it
I consider that one of your best reviews. Completely fair criticism. Your passion for books has rekindled mine and I'm finding it so rewarding. Thanks so much.
Wow, thank you!
In defense of the two essays with footwork drills: one of the main points is to make everything you do more natural. By practicing under additional cognitive load you get to the point where your mind is clear when you go to do the move by itself. A person who can squat their own bodyweight looks very natural when they casually squat down to tie their shoes, because they are nowhere near their capacity. Similarly someone who can do the move in an awkward position, while doing something else and listening to music will have no problem doing the move by itself. They will also be more consistent in unfamiliar or changing performance situations because they are used to performance under duress. If you can only do a good double lift in your bedroom when you're sitting a very particular way, you have a great deal of room for improvement. So that seems to be one of his main cognitive points.
As for the physical, it is absolutely true that better posture improves everything: your health, your movement, your sleep, and yes, everything you do with your hands, including sleights. I have a black belt in Kung Fu, and we constantly have people coming in who want to learn how to punch people. Nearly all of them have serious work to do on their posture before they are ready to either deliver or receive a punch without hurting themselves. If they continue, after 10 years or so of practicing Kung Fu they will find that the principles of good activation, based out of good posture, effect every aspect of their lives, from opening a door, to chopping vegetables, to brushing their teeth, and of course, punching people. Again, using the analogy to weight lifting, you will find that when you bench press half your own body weight that it matters very much what the position of your feet are. That feeling of the entire body contributing to an action can be employed for every task: even when shuffling cards you should feel your posture and your abs working. You don't have to of course, but Ben is trying to pass on how he has learned to put everything into his sleights while remaining natural and confident in every context and application.
I was very surprised to see Ben include this posture work in his books, which he had to know would immediately bring him criticism. I understand why people think it's odd, I just hope he doesn't stop sharing the weird stuff because of the reactions.
Great review as always David, and thanks for your time!
wonderful comment, I hope a lot of people read this
1999 was a good year
It totally was
I love Fridays!! Books rock and it's the weekend whoop. If I I partied like it's 1999 I'd be outside Big Ben in London 😎
The best!
happy Friday-book-review-day David 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 3-3-3 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Scrupulously fair and well thought out review, that's what brings me back to the Mothership near daily and while Mr Earl won't be getting my vote - or any of my money - anytime soon, the point best made was that we as an artistic fraternity are always in danger of knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing.
very wise Mr Black
Nice review! Have a great weekend David. 👍🏻
👍🏻
Cool book review and have a great weekend.
Thank you kindly
Wonderful book review 👍😊👍👍😊
👍😊👍👍😊 Thank you 🤗
If all 3 volumes get combined into 1 volume i think people would be more receptive to it, even if it cost closer to $100.
I agree
Would be nice to hear a review about Madison's Devilry! That book cost a lot.. is it for a beginner or more experienced, perhaps both?
Love from Sweden brother 🙏
I wish I owned it
